Absolutely correct re. rubber expansion joints. I made the mistake of using them with mitered corners around my hip roof. Expensive, a pain to install, and a 2-year lifetime before the rubber rips. Do NOT miter corners on long runs, cap the ends and let them float.
For your standard expansion we always notch one gutter and slide them into each other so it still looks like one continuous gutter from the ground same concept tho put two end caps in there and cap the top. we also make our end caps to fit inside the gutter without the extra lip
I checked out your other videos & you make excellent helpful videos. Had some new gutters put on. The end caps leak & drip for about 20 minutes after rain stops. How would you fix that please?
We were installing gutters since 1997, and I have never seen a Gutter yet that buckled because of expansion and shrinking. Do you think that adding more hangers could make a difference? And maybe it makes a difference from one state to another. I would think that Montana and Michigan might have almost the same climate.
Shouldn’t use screws at all just cut one piece of metal for endcap and trim so it fits snugly under both gutter lips and the back of it put under the flashing
