    I like to think the reason the bad guys don’t stop the magical girls while they’re transforming is because the transformation gives off so much light that the bad guy gets blinded by it for a moment.

    The idea of a tsundere has always amused me. Despite the fact they’re jerks, they’re almost always very popular among fans. If they existed in real life, they’d be insufferable to be around.

    • @moondivine2288
      @moondivine2288 Рік тому +234

      Personally for me tsunderes can be a hit or miss. I do like the well developed written ones with a backstory that explains why they’re the way they are. Not just being tsudere just for the sake of it.
      Also the person they are in love with, the target of their tsundere is also a factor. A good example is Spy x Family where the target of the male tsundere crush dislikes him because she finds him to be a jerk. It is more realistic than the ones that ignore it and are pushy with their love.

    • @rainy-matcha
      @rainy-matcha Рік тому +145

      I think theres a difference between a well written tsundere to an abusive jerk who's actions are excused with the "tsundere" label. A well written tsundere should just be more closed off and uniterested torwards the protagonist, and not unreasonably violent. They are still civil torwards the protagonist.This character is written with a softer side to show *character depth*. An abusive asshole character is unreasonably violent, outwardly mean instead of closed off, and the writers act like giving this character a backstory and showing their softer side excuses their behavior.

    • @Speculativedude
      @Speculativedude Рік тому +44

      Also 9 times out to 10, they are drawn as the "cute" character in the harem (often, though not always the loli or small character,) because the writer knows that if they were real, people would hate them because of their attitude, so they have to draw them cuter than the rest so they will be liked by the viewers.

It’s very rare to see the guy unfazed or defending himself. And it’s even rarer to see the guy calling her baka/pervert. Those inversion moments are always my favorite. Multiple things to point out (not necessarily in order though):
    - For the magical girl transformation, I’m pretty sure it’s because the transformations are quick but are added to please the fan.
    - I honestly did not like the harem trope so much on a personal note due to most of the time the love interest with good chemistry with the protagonist being not chosen very frequently
    - The Persona series falls on the beach/hot springs trope too frequently.
    - The fact that the boys are always to blame for these accidental situations felt slightly sexist in my opinion.
    (Note Wolfy, none of these are towards you. I’m just voicing my opinions towards these types of tropes. Still love you and your vids so much.) ❤
    EDIT: I did not expect this to become so popular.

    The Harem trope is pretty dull, but I really like the way they used it in Romantic Killer where it’s very meta and makes fun of the trope, but also makes it really interesting. Also helps that it’s sort of a reverse-harem where it’s a VERY non-blank-slate girl with multiple guys falling for her at first due to the “Romantic Thriller” game before something actually happens to justify it instead of a basic dude with like 10 girls falling for him for really no reason.

    A trope that's always gnawed at me is the uber dense protag. It falls into the harem trope a lot but it's also present when there's only one love interest. The love interest throws themselves at the protag and they somehow don't notice what literally everybody around them notices. It's so frustrating and spoils so many potentially good love story sub plots.

      The "Boring Blue Hair Harem Male Main Character" archetype, design-wise, I think started with Yukinari Sasaki from Girls Bravo. Before that, you got guys like Tenchi from Tenchi Muyo and Keitaro Urashima from Love Hina. Both of them which are normal guys and their designs are pretty nice. Tenchi has spiky black hair with a tiny ponytail on the back of head while Keitaro has nice brown hair with some glasses on! At least they're not lazily-designed, that's for sure! LMAO

    • @kylajensen1957
      @kylajensen1957 2 місяці тому +1

      In multiple stories I wrote I actually have a very good reason for the main character being dense and not noticing romantic feelings.
      1. The first story is a reborn as villain isekai and the main character discovered his villain future at age five, meaning by the time he's a teenager he's internalized it and sees himself as unlovable (or that his love interest could never actually be happy with him as opposed to one of the "canon" capture targets) so he's deliberately ignoring or downplaying her cues she's attracted to him.
      2. The main character has been emotionally abused by her only mother figure and is albino, so even though she's a knockout by the standards of everyone around her she's internalized the idea she's not attractive, and her love interest is also emotionally damaged and doesn't express his feelings well, which doesn't help.

    Fun Fact:
    The reason magical girl's aren't attacked while transforming is related to samurai culture.
    Until around the Kamakura period (1185-1333) samurai warriors rose to power, it was customary for samurai to always state their own names, hometowns, and backgrounds before fighting each other. This is because if you don’t know who beat whom, you cannot receive a reward from your lord.
    It was customary to know who they were or where they were from before you kill your opponent, as you'd you risk losing your reward even if you win because you cannot prove how important he was. Because of this samurai culture of fighting fair and square, villains wait for heroes in Japanese anime.

Gaijin Goombah already explained it on one of his videos but there’s been so much anime that take place in high school, it’s not bad I mean I have my favorite anime with high school settings but if you’ve seen anyone online talk about high school, it’s often not pleasant at best or outright traumatic at worst. Take for example Aggretsuko and Uzaki-Chan Wants to Hang Out, the main characters are young adults either in college or in the workplace and those are some of my favorites. - returning to one's roots
    - tradition over change
    - staying the same
    - complacency vs. rebellion
    etc.
    There's a reason the childhood friend is often not rejected until late in the show. Deciding to change is very difficult for many people so it is seen as relatable.

    The one trope I hate the most is regards to romance anime where the protag will start off like normal like starts to like a girl that they talk to and by the time episode 11 comes around about 2 to 5 times there would be moments of them almost about to kiss and or confess their feelings BUT it's always stopped by either a Phone call, Friend, Someone entering the room and or fireworks going off...
    It's always amusing how there is so much content up to episode 12 when the character is about to and does confess but there is only 5 minutes left of them after they are a couple and then the season ends without anything happening afterwards.
    My other trope I really hate is personality tied to their hair colors... it can be meh at times as after a few animes you start to know what type of characters will be like just be seeing their hair.. why can't Orange or red hair be a calm character why does a white hair character have to be quite and reserved... why does the pink hair character have to be an air head... why does blue hair, black or brown hair have to be the color of the dense protag of the story.. like for real mix it up Japanese studios...
    My final trope I hate is when you have a Harem or love triangle but even by the 12th episode the protag never picks any girl and the series just ends leaving me feel empty..

      @@mikemorro140 yeah I don't really watch anime, only really seen clips and stuff, cause parents thought all anime was gross and lewd cause of a choice few pics and short clips they saw, so I based my comment primarily on stuff I've heard and seen from others (only ever watched studio ghibli movies cause that's all that was available to me, and even then my parents thought it was too weird)

    One anime I love is called Outbreak Company. And it’s great because it’s self aware of all the tropes and stereotypes in anime, and otaku culture as a whole.
    For example, during that anime’s obligatory beach episode, the main character literally says “We’re getting our own beach episode!”
    I highly recommend the anime. It’s really good.

    Fun fact about nobody noticing that a character is a different person because they've changed clothes: It's not actually that far-fetched. Just for fun, after the film "Batman vs. Superman" came out, Henry Cavill (Superman in the film) went to Times square and stood around to see if anyone would notice him. Nobody recognised him, even though he was standing in front of a huge billboard advertising the film and even wearing a T-shirt with the Superman logo on it. Two people approached him, and they just asked for directions.

    Funny thing about the magical transformation. There was a scientist or whoever on some Japanese show that broke it down and came to a rather funny conclusion-- the girls are transforming so fast (judging by the light show they're giving off and in-universe time progression) that if anyone tried to stop them mid-transformation THEY'D BE FUGGIN OBLITERATED.

    The one with the transformations is actually explainable. When they transform, it's a split second or faster for the people in the anime but for us it's like 5 to 10 seconds. It's like Dragon Ball where they're moving at the speed of light but it's slowed down for us so we can see it.

    About the magical girl transformation one:
    One time, an geek who liked anime got bored and decided to check the science behind the transformation sequences. It turns out that the beam of light surrounding the characters while they transformed had to be strong enough to anihilate literally anything inside of it for it to lift the magical girls the way it looked. I'll see if I can find the post for you.

  • @ZapStrideGaming
    @ZapStrideGaming Рік тому +11

    Honestly, the way most writers and creators explain why nobody stops the transformations is we are seeing a cinematic form of the transformation, when in world it's a quick flash of whatever color light, and suddenly they change. Super sentai/power rangers is a big example, though at least in power rangers and super sentai there's been a couple times the monster/villain stopped a transformation from occurring in one way or another, but only once per series/season

    I think it's always annoying how the main character that has several times been shown to be incredibly overpowered gets beat up by some girl because she's mad or the main character gets really scared it's fine for little jokes but I've seen so many shows where it's so overworked
