I love to see the mach looop in action. I taught in a school in the west desert of Utah where these F 35's practice a lot. Our school is very isolated with eleven students and the F 35 pilots often dive down on the school practicing bombing runs. It's amazing to see their noses pointed straight at you coming straight down on the school. Practicing or having a little fun giving us a show way out in the isolation of the desert makes an exciting day.

Reminds me of a story my dad told me one time: It was about 5 years ago, and he was at an nfl game in Boston. It was halftime, and for whatever reason, everyone was cheering and going crazy, even though there was no performers/anyone doing anything on the field. My dad was pretty confused, and all of the sudden there was a massive object overhead that blocked out the sun. He thought he was going to die, it didn't even look like it was from earth, just a massive black, silent object coming to rain death on those below. turns out, a it was a b2 stealth bomber doing a fly over.
I've been to a LOT of airshows, as well as having worked at 5 different airports in my lifetime, whether on the flightline or as a pilot or flight instructor. I have never heard a fighter or attack jet as loud as the F-35. Not a Phantom, Tomcat, Viper, Eagle, Hornet, Corsair II, Warthog, Tornado, Intruder, or Starfighter. The only jets on par with its noise level were a B-52, B-1, SR-71, and C-5A...took multiple loud engines to equal that noise level. I have been blessed to see a surprise, unannounced high speed flyby by a Lancer at full afterburner low off the deck of a civilian 10,000 foot runway with wings fully swept back and cleared for an unrestricted climb. The Blackbird I saw was on its last flight, between Beale to Wright-Patterson, with several photo passes and a full stop to be hangered for eternity in February of 1990. The monster engine on the F-35 puts out a couple thousand more pounds of thrust than the first Tomcat model did with both engines combined.
i have always liked the F-35 because of it's looks, it's kind of like a baby Raptor, but now i not only see a beautifully crafted piece of military hardware - i see surely the most technically advanced fighter jet ever built and even today we are still learning of it's capabilities. Awesome video
Its capabilities will not be fully understood until the design is declassified. Not likely in our lifetime. Keep in mind...this plane was flying in like 2006. It's a 20 year air frame already. There's a reason we didn't build a lot of them. Our technological capabilities then vs. now are just...incomparable.
my thoughts exactly. trough the years and the better and better quality of photos i've come to understand what an incredible piece of engineering the F35 is. I've always been a fan because i understood it's bigger picture concept but the more details we get from it ..the more astounding it becomes. The metallurgy in this machine ...just speechless
The F-35 capabilities will continue to expand over decades to come. Because it is the NATO fighter of choice investment is directly motivated by the needs of the NATO member states. It may look the same in decades to come but it will have been reinvented several times over.
This footage and these photos are amazing. Definitely the best representation I've seen of the F35 anywhere. That lead plane pilot is a madman, too. I love it.
I love how the high wingloading creates the amazing wingtip vortices. This jet definitely is very nimble, fast, and maneuverable. I believe it has a published speed of 1.6 Mach but I’m sure it’s capable of much higher speeds if needed. It would just damage the stealth coatings. What’s great though is the amount of thrust this jet has. I’ve always loved the F-16 but this fighter is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. Great video footage. I’d love the opportunity to see this in person someday. I had the opportunity to watch the F-35B a few years back and was completely blown away by the performance.
Mach 1.6 is the top speed. speed limit is a result of power available and airframe drag. 1.6 is pretty good for single engine top speed when you consider the twin engine variants of jets tend to top out at Mach 2.4 . I think the F 16 is similar in speed limits. Look what the blackbird needed for propulsion to get to Mach 3.5 The power required is exponential so twice the speed requires almost 4 times the power. The "stealth coating" isn't affected by speed, it's just paint and only really affected by temperature, which this jet can not go fast enough to worry about burning the paint off. The majority of the low radar cross section stuff being the material the jet is constructed of, carbon composites etc and the canopy is mirror tinted for similar anti radar properties.
This indeed is excellent videography and still shots. The one still shot of the plane in a 60 degree climb with the contrails pouring off it’s wings Is absolutely awesome. THANKS !
I was a wind turbine worker in Tehachapi, CA in 1987 to 89; used to see fighters come in low under where me and my buddies were up on top of 200 foot turbines on top of the mountains doing our work; it was pretty awesome to hear them like this; I think they were flying out of Edwards AFB. Great video!
If they were flying that low, they were most likely Navy or Marine Corps jets out of China Lake. I worked in Boron and Ridgecrest for the Sheriff's Office for many years, and the flying style between the two services was much different, at least in the 70's and 80's when I was there. The Air Force pilots took off from Edwards at the prescribed angle, flew the prescribed distance off the end of the runway and then made the prescribed turn off the base. At China Lake NWC, the Navy and Marine Corps pilots would do a barrel roll off the end of the runway and then stand the jet on it's tail and go vertical. When patrolling the desert dirt roads, the Navy and Marine Corps pilots would sometimes try to "sneak up" on my patrol vehicle at sagebrush level. If I spotted them first and turned on my red lights, some would waggle their wings and turn on their landing lights to acknowledge being spotted. I saw some amazing skill at high speed in the desert......

And to think I was only there because I had bad left knee/leg, so I didn't think I could walk up to Bwlch or Exit.
@@DarrenEdwardsAviation it was certainly your day and you knee played up for a reason 👍😁 I'll be watching it again later on the big screen to get the full effects 👍 I'm seriously thinking about getting my tent ready for my next trip 🙄🏴
Thanks Andy. Maybe fate brought everything together that day, for me to create the video.
Oh what a beauty
Yes it is
Beautiful birds!
They are!
She's a beauty!
Sure is
These 35s sound amazing , especially when they flyover my house on the loop
Awesome.
Not a big f35 guy by any means personally, these are indeed the sickest f35 passes ive seen. Well done
Thanks
My first time getting a look at the F35 looking as cool as the F22. Incredible footage =)
Thanks a lot!
Stunning photos, thank you.
Many thanks!
I thought you said there’d be F35s in this, all I saw was an empty valley
😂😅
I live in Tucson, get to see all kinds of amazing aircraft coming in and out of DM. Being a fighter jet pilot has to the best damn job in the world.
Awesome, Yeah it must be very special.
At first, I didn't like the looks of F 35. Now with it's sharp edges, it looks as stunning as a Lamborghini.
Yeah it does look stunning.
i was on the road below one of the passing points under the mach loop a year or so ago when we were flown over completely out of the blue. i just about shat myself it was so loud, what a buzz!!
🤣😂, must have been awesome.
Some cracking passes 👌🏼 lovely video and photos too! Yet to witness one through the loop but eagerly anticipating the day 🤞🏼
Thank you so much, hopefully when you visit there you manage to see something go through.
@@DarrenEdwardsAviation I’ve done a few visits already but only seen the Hawks and Texans. No luck with anything American so far.
Fingers crossed you manage to see some going through there.
Fantastic footage of fantastic flying! Amazing stills, too. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the great feedback, pilots are amazing.
Superb capture, video and those stills. Also the “Approaching Howl” made by the F35s reminds me of the F111s, or maybe it’s just me…thanks for posting
Thank you so much, I've never heard the sound of a F111 in person so I couldn't really compare them.
The F-111’s were something else! I miss seeing them. The F-35 II’s have an absolutely massive engine though. I think it’s the most powerful single engine in a jet fighter. …I think.
Awesome.
Some badass photography Darren. Excellent stuff.
Thank you so much and thanks for watching the video.
What great video, and stunning still images! Love this presentation of an amazing airplane!
Thank you so much.
That would be so exhilarating to be there. Just beautiful and graceful!!
Thanks. Yeah, it's great to witness in person.
Brilliant capture of a very photogenic aircraft.
Thanks so much for the great feedback.
Two words watching that...and the second one was 'hell !!'...fantastic flying skills.
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes Amazing flying skills.
From spitfires to those f35s they just make the hairs on my body stand up absolutely amazing 👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
They were American 🇺🇲
🇺🇲
The F35 is definitely growing on me
And me too.
Some nice passes 👌
Cheers thank you Elwyn.
Kudos to the ground crews who wash these, they are spotless!
Yeah, for sure.
Brilliant stills Darren. I bet the pilots on the day would love a copy!
Thank you so much. I have no idea I'm afraid. They probably ain't allowed to.
@@DarrenEdwardsAviation I reckon if you ring the base and say you have some nice shots of the days training, they'll love it. I've worked with USAF personnel before, they are all nuts, but also really like photos showing how nuts they actually are 😆
lol, maybe different when they're the UK.
Excellent piece of material. Well done! I never saw something like this before.
Thank you so much.
Great vid, and stills! Something I’ve wondered for a while, are the farmers/landholders compensated at all for noise etc? The F-35 is far and away the loudest thing I’ve ever heard! It was awe inspiring.
Thank you so much.
I wouldn't have thought so, but who knows.
These are top-quality images presented here. Good work!
Glad you think so!
Amazing stills. Absolutely pin sharp. I dont know how you even get the plane in frame let alone shoot pics of that quality!
Thank you so much, it's never easy that's for sure.
This thing is slowly silencing the doubters and has become one bad ass machine
Yeah for sure.
Fantastic work Darren!
Many thanks!
Great photos. Hat's off the photographer, the pilots and maintenance who keep them flying.
Many thanks!
thankyou for taking your time to provide us with such incredible shots......
and your ability to turn 99% of male viewers to mush 👍
Thanks, my pleasure, 😆
How do you take the stills and video at the same time?
Camcorder is mounted on my DSLR
Amazing…
Thanks so much.
Another amazing video, and your stills of this gorgeous beast area awesome!!!!
Thank you so much.
I’m lucky enough to live in the flight pattern for Luke Air Force base in Arizona. I get to watch these beautiful machines put on a show everyday
Brilliant, that must be awesome.
Thanks everyone for the likes, I appreciate it so much.

Thank you so much.
Incredible! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I get to work with this jet. It's really amazing.
Very cool, awesome job to have.
I put it on 4k and sat with my jaw on floor for the duration. Stunning visuals.
Thank you so much.
