No arrester hook either. And it damn near stalled on approach with no way to go around for another try. Probably would have made one helluva splash when it hit the water I bet. Thanx.
Even more, it turned around and got into a parking spot without ripping it's wings off and/or gouging a huge hole in the island. Imagine what might have happened if it was fully loaded, landing or launching. Good thing it's a game simulation.
No wake, the ship isnt moving. The wingspan would take out the bridge, and a C-17 does not have a tail hook. So in reality, if the pilot were actually lucky enough to hit the deck, the right wing would be severed by the bridge and the aircraft would then spin off the deck into the ocean at near the same speed as touchdown.
VERY good simulation. It took me until after the landing to fully realize that this was just a simulation. There actually have been experimental landings of large aircraft on carriers, so I didn't completely dismiss it at first.
@@tomwilbur6439 Yes, real jets CAN reverse by using their reverse thrusters normally used during landing. I have seen a number of videos of large jets reversing for various reasons.
The C-17 is a STOL aircraft, but not that short. A runway of at least 3500 feet is preferred for both landing and take off. There is a recorded distance of 2500 feet, but that was all landing conditions optimal.
Instead of a simulated C-17 carrier landing you could have shown actual footage of a C-130 landing on the USS Forrestal from October 1963. C-130 serial no. 149798 ("Look Ma, No Hook") still holds the record of the largest plane to ever land on an aircraft carrier: 29 Touch and Goes, 21 Landings and Unassisted Takeoffs.🤔
The aircraft that has been famously recorded landing a cargo on an aircraft carrier is the C-130 Hercules; specifically, the US Navy conducted tests where they successfully landed a C-130 on an aircraft carrier, demonstrating its ability to deliver cargo at sea, although this capability is not routinely used in practice.
Not even the best thrust reversers could accomplish that. You might get her down, but you'd have to crane her off. Even if you had Jato rockets attached, and to the best of my knowledge the C-17 isn't designed or rated for those. That's if you could even find any. The lack of them is why the Blue Angels stopped doing the Fat Albert Jato takeoff demos. That and the new C-130s can make that climb on their own.
@@MrRockydee07 - You're talking about a stationary plane with a wingspan of 67 feet, giving it enough clearance from the Island on the USS Hornet and taking off and needing just 70 mph into the wind, compared with plane with a wingspan of almost 170 feet coming in that has a stall speed of 205 mph. And in case you didn't know it, those B-25's didn't land on the carrier, they were hoisted onto it by cranes at the Alameda Naval Air Station just South of Okland.
@@MrRockydee07 - Sorry, I misunderstood you. Now, that said, if you want to hook me into watching more: LET ME SEE IT TAKE OFF FROM THE CARRIER!! THEN you might have something there! 😉t😅
I think it's BS. A C-17 wouldn't be able to land and take off from an aircraft carrier. In any case, the US Navy has the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey multi-mission, tiltrotor military aircraft with both VTOL and STOL capabilities.
That’s amazing! That’s got to be one HUGE ship for that plane to be able to turn around on the deck of it! Pilot made it look easy! GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY!
Simulators like this don't count. The C-130 (to be picky, a KC-130 tanker version) ACTUALLY LANDED AND TOOK OFF FROM A CARRIER (USS Forestal) several times during some testing in the early 1960s. C-17 wings are too wide, even if it COULD manage the distance.
He didn't period it is a capture or a clip captured on Microsoft flight simulator. When you're playing this video game you can capture a still shot or a video anytime you want.
C-17 isn't equipped to HAVE arresting gear - and it would probably tear off if they DID try to add it. C-130 testing on the Forestall DID NOT EVEN TRY.
Good animation, but not going to happen in real world situation. Sorry folks but a C-17 can not land on an air craft carrier.
Impossible. Not in the real world. Wake up.
Would never happen,a air force cargo plane landing on a navy aircraft carrier

It's in the video description.
Ever seen a C17 parked next to a C130 that's when see how big the C17 is.. the C17 would rip it's wing off on the Carrier island..
You have to admit the animation is top shelf😮
Nice landing. Only Göring do this.😎✈️
VERY good simulation. It took me until after the landing to fully realize that this was just a simulation. There actually have been experimental landings of large aircraft on carriers, so I didn't completely dismiss it at first.
Nothing larger than a KC-130 (tanker version of the Hercules).
The giveaway was that the carrier wasn't moving at all, let alone like a hydroplane on steroids to land that flying boxcar .
