The C-17 is a STOL aircraft, but not that short. A runway of at least 3500 feet is preferred for both landing and take off. There is a recorded distance of 2500 feet, but that was all landing conditions optimal.
No wake, the ship isnt moving. The wingspan would take out the bridge, and a C-17 does not have a tail hook. So in reality, if the pilot were actually lucky enough to hit the deck, the right wing would be severed by the bridge and the aircraft would then spin off the deck into the ocean at near the same speed as touchdown.
No arrester hook either. And it damn near stalled on approach with no way to go around for another try. Probably would have made one helluva splash when it hit the water I bet. Thanx.
Even more, it turned around and got into a parking spot without ripping it's wings off and/or gouging a huge hole in the island. Imagine what might have happened if it was fully loaded, landing or launching. Good thing it's a game simulation.
Yeah, I thought something was hokey when I see the ocean at the base of the carrier structure in the water LIT UP like with a search light. Agree with most of the comments below regarding the fallacy of this - and I spent YEARS in the IC, as an Army Reservist, working with Navy and Air Force folk, so I figure I learned SOMETHING of observational skills. Now, that said, if you want to hook me into watching more: LET ME SEE IT TAKE OFF FROM THE CARRIER!! THEN you might have something there! 😉t😅
VERY good simulation. It took me until after the landing to fully realize that this was just a simulation. There actually have been experimental landings of large aircraft on carriers, so I didn't completely dismiss it at first.
@@tomwilbur6439 Yes, real jets CAN reverse by using their reverse thrusters normally used during landing. I have seen a number of videos of large jets reversing for various reasons.
I think it's BS. A C-17 wouldn't be able to land and take off from an aircraft carrier. In any case, the US Navy has the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey multi-mission, tiltrotor military aircraft with both VTOL and STOL capabilities.
Instead of a simulated C-17 carrier landing you could have shown actual footage of a C-130 landing on the USS Forrestal from October 1963. C-130 serial no. 149798 ("Look Ma, No Hook") still holds the record of the largest plane to ever land on an aircraft carrier: 29 Touch and Goes, 21 Landings and Unassisted Takeoffs.🤔
@@MrRockydee07 - You're talking about a stationary plane with a wingspan of 67 feet, giving it enough clearance from the Island on the USS Hornet and taking off and needing just 70 mph into the wind, compared with plane with a wingspan of almost 170 feet coming in that has a stall speed of 205 mph. And in case you didn't know it, those B-25's didn't land on the carrier, they were hoisted onto it by cranes at the Alameda Naval Air Station just South of Okland.
@@MrRockydee07 - Sorry, I misunderstood you. The way you worded it that made it sound like if a B-25 can do it, a C-17 can which some people actually believe because "I saw it on the Internet so it must be true!" Just read many of the other post which is why I added the "other BS" to show it's ridiculous to believe the video.
Not even the best thrust reversers could accomplish that. You might get her down, but you'd have to crane her off. Even if you had Jato rockets attached, and to the best of my knowledge the C-17 isn't designed or rated for those. That's if you could even find any. The lack of them is why the Blue Angels stopped doing the Fat Albert Jato takeoff demos. That and the new C-130s can make that climb on their own.
That’s amazing! That’s got to be one HUGE ship for that plane to be able to turn around on the deck of it! Pilot made it look easy! GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY!
Good animation, but not going to happen in real world situation. Sorry folks but a C-17 can not land on an air craft carrier.
However, a C-130 Hercules did land on a carrier. In Oct. & Nov. 1963, a C-130 made several landings and take-offs on the USS Forrestal.
@@James_Knott. Yeah A C-130 . That's a FAR CRY from a C-17 . Not the same category of Aircraft .
animation? i think this is MS flight simulator, look at the description
I'm glad you told me that because I actually believed it because they landed a C-130 on a carrier
Take off be iffy
As a former C17 Capt this is not possible. But it could crash onto the Carrier but not with me at the controls !!
You have to admit the animation is top shelf😮

Kkkkkk genius
There is no aircraft carrier big enough for a C-17

Amazing what you can do in a video game!
In 1963 a C-130 made several landings and take offs on the USS Forrestal. It also doesn't have a tail hook.
That was the best cartoon. I've seen in a long time. Wiley coyote eat your heart out
Impossible. Not in the real world. Wake up.

It’s video game footage.....

Nothing larger than a KC-130 (tanker version of the Hercules).
The giveaway was that the carrier wasn't moving at all, let alone like a hydroplane on steroids to land that flying boxcar .
