    It is indeed metaphorical.
Mommy is society trying to beat down people who have the sickness.
The sickness is being different and refusing to confirm to what society says is normal
Then finally those who have been metaphorically supressed fight back.
The light and dark are part of us.
Trying to supress it instead of coexisting with it will never work.
Please react to their song The Light and Hold Into Memories.
Both are very powerful in a positive way.
The song Daddy by Korn is being recommended in the comments.
Fair warning it about his own childhood where he was repeated s*xually assaulted.
It will be the most brutally honest, gut wrenching song you ever listened to.

I've only listened to it twice, and that's about as much as I can manage.

This song has helped me so much in my life. It gave me the strength to leave and not have to deal with it anymore. My Mother was very verbally and mentally abusive. I have had dreams about hurting my family that has hurt me so the more i used to bottle it up the more it came out in my dreams. I have Aspbergers, ADHD, and now PTSD. I ran to the military to escape. I am 41 and live a very happy life without my toxic family.

OMG I wondered what you were going to say about this one when I saw the thumbnail 😊, great reaction and insight as always Stu, thank you
I wonder if the bridge is referring to how we imagin (in our dreams) fighting back against/regaining our autonomy over a cruelty or perceived injustice when we are not able to do it in real life...

Great reaction Stuart. I think you picked up on several great points. For me, this track seems to imply generational mental health problems. His mother has what sound like sever mental problems and as a result he is now developing mental health problems of his own because of the abusiveness that his mother is exhibiting towards him. It is no wonder he is at the end of his tether and feeling like he can’t cope; and that he drowning in anger. He’s saying he wants, presumably his mother, to “open up her hate and let it flow into me”. Perhaps hoping if she finally releases it all in one big show of anger, and he is able to absorb it and take it on, that will force some kind of conclusion and total release. However, later he realises he’s becoming almost demonic or at least more powerful in his hate than his mother and is now warning her, to the effect that ‘hell has no fury than a person scorned” and he’s now capable of being more harmful and abusive than her. This isn’t a great place for either of them to be in. What they actually need at this point is time and space away from each other and some intermediary to help them both individually with their issues.
As, a way to understand the mother’s position I want to say that in the modern society, I think mothers get a bad rep and often have really high, almost unachievable ideal placed upon them. They are so often held up as being extremes, either an ‘ideal model of perfectionistic complete doting or loving kindness’, the ‘you can have it all ultra successful capable juggler’ (think Barbie) or a ‘strong influencing powerful matriarchal dominance’. One implies smothering, one implies constant control, and the other implies over domineering. None of which are healthy and can be extremely damaging. Mothers in today’s society are meant to juggle so many hats: the peacemaker in the family, the homemaker, the child rearer, the loving wife/girlfriend, the cleaner, the worker outside of the home in their own right etc. It’s no wonder many mothers have anxiety, depression or develop other more harmful mental health problems that they could end up inflicting the consequences of onto others, such as their children.

I just discovered this channel, but I kinda want to suggest taking a look at Doombop by The Toxhards. I feel like it's a pretty accurate portrayal of some modern anxieties. Specifically, the idea that everyone is aware of the problems, but would rather you pretend that it's fine so they can keep pretending as well.

Just recently found this channel and I've gone down the rabbit hole! If you haven't reacted to it yet, I think you should react to Let You Down by NF! It's an incredible song

Oh this is an interesting one. I didn't know this song. When the part came up with the abusive mother I felt a lot of tension in my body. It made me feel uncomfortable but I think this might be a wanted reaction by disturbed? And I like that it shows that mother's can be abusers as well not only the dad's. I say this because I have the feeling when abuse is a topic mostly dad's are shown or stepdads. There is a need of representation for those victims as well so they can feel a little bit more seen and might seek help as well. What do you think about that? Even if it is metaphorically i like that it can be understood another way too.

i know it likely isnt actually about someones actual mother, but my mom is a very abusive person who has always treated me like shit, shes even kicked me across the room when i was little for asking for food and used to tape pacifiers or binkis or whatever theyre called into my mouth to make me not cry as loud, so hearing that part of the song is always really difficult for me tbh

Not that this song was "cooy" of
the Korn song Mommy why but I think maybe this helped bring it out. If you haven't and judging by your reaction you have not you need to buckle up and react to Korn Mommy Why with lyrics because you're going to need them.
