Personally I make the individual cutters in Tinkercad, export them and then import multiple STL files into my slicer program. From there I can rearrange them on the build plate and adjust them individually as needed.
I cant get this to work. When I open the generator it is already a heart. If I try to add a tree SVG, it only show as a triangle. What am I doing wrong?
I'm just a humble amateur helping my wife with her sugar cookie home business. I've been using this shape generator for a few months now. It's ALMOST perfect. However there are a couple things I struggle with that are hindering it from creating more usable cookie cutters. Width of Cutter Blade - it's simply too thick. It says .5mm but when you export the STL and import into Cura slicer it's more like 2mm. Most cookie cutters I've seen on the market step the thickness of the blade from about 2mm to 1mm finally ending at .5mm to give an actual blade. That may be asking too much but being able to just set it to actually be .5mm would be a huge improvement. With the blade at 2mm you end up smashing the dough more than actually cutting it. Cutter Size - What does this number even mean? It's not millimeters or inches. I end up using the measuring tool and playing around with this arbitrary number until it's kind of close. Then I have to tweak the size in Cura slicer anyway. Is there some way to make it intuitive? Would you be willing to make these enhancements? Alternatively, is there anyway I could get access to the JavaScript for this generator to make some enhancements? What do you think? Thanks!
Not new to Tinkercad, but still learning... is there any method to change the top cutter edge into a bevel like a blade, vs the flat bludgeon that is the default? Is there another setting I can alter?
This did not work for me. I created a simple dog bone shape using illustrator and exported it to svg. It won't load. Its under 1mb, its grouped and united as 1 single shape before saving as an svg but nothing. Shape generator fails to build. I noticed it was created 3 years ago so maybe needs to be updated? The shape on the generator also shows as a heart.
@@diyslaps In other words the bone has to be filled vs it being an outline? I wanted to use mine as it's custom to my logo. I was able to just create 2 separate svg files with 2 different offsets, and then combine them in tinkercad to make the cutter so thats ok. But I will try it out for another cutter and see if it works. Thanks for replying!
@@angelina.arabella It works for both filled and outlined images but it just matters on the creation of the SVG. Some have enough points on them to generate a cutter while others may not have enough. Using the duplicate command you can quickly make a cookie cutter from any image. I'll make another video on it soon.
I just created a cookie cutter hydrant with a .2 blade. You'll need to create a hollow image out of that same file on another tab in tinkercad Import that hollowed image to the cutter created by the generator Align both the hollow image and the generated cutter and that can serve as your blade. Maybe make two blades. I made one and didn't bevel out the sides due to lack of skill and it works.. but could be better
Hi DIY SLAPS! The new version is in a heart (as others have said). However, when I click on the cookie cutter heart it does not give me the option to replace the heart image. I have the red 'solid' circle and the grey striped 'hole' circle immediately followed by a statement saying "by this tinkerer" where the words 'this tinkerer' are a hyperlink that doesn't go anywhere.... Any suggestions?
Hi Alyssa, I was tinkering with the converter and making sure it was working after some comments and yes the image is now different. There was a problem with TinkerCAD as a whole recently where the extensions were not working. Now it is fully working. I just tested it.
Thanks for sharing. I'm looking into 3D printing & was wondering if there's a quicker way to get files than pulling them offline and individually adjusting each one? Any cookie cutter software you're aware of or recommend? Tnx again!
Is there anyone that can assist me with this? I have gone step by step and I keep getting a huge heart with the "generator" heart in the middle. I don't understand why this isn't working.
Hello, I was able to create two shapes, then i started to get this error shape generator failed to build, and no it not lettting me create any other ... any clue?
I have tried dragging several files and it says the generator failed to build. Any fixes? Also it isn't the gear shape that shows up. It's a heart inside a heart.
Some images are too complicated to build for the generator. It’s for simple SVG files with straight lines. Also make sure the image is black and white.
Great tool, thanks. I there any way to bevel the edge actually cutting the cookie. I find the flat edge squishes the dough rather than cutting it properly. The bevel should face outward to cut better imo. Some designs use a narrower "wall" layers for the cutting edge. I suppose this is another option one could utilize.
Hi @diyslaps, Thank you so much for the tutorial! ^_^ I am having some trouble with this, you see the file I am using is an outline and it also has 1 smaller element within which is solid. When I put it into the generator it almost looks like it would either press or cut my cookie twice! meaning I would only have a cookie outline instead of a whole cookie?! Any chance you could help me fix it or point me in the right direction please? :3
The original file must have changed to the heart shape many people are commenting on. Additionally, I cannot get this to work to save my life. No matter what SVG I try to use (on multiple machine, MacOS and iOS), I get the error "Shape generator failed to build. Node fails to load." These are SVG from the web, that I've built, that work with other generators, but not this generator or remixes of this generator. Grr.
The more complicated the SVG the less likely it will work. Also make sure it is on the smaller size. It will work quicker and not affect quality. What type of shape are you trying to generate?
I tried this last year and it worked great! I went to try again today and when I click on the generator itself it doesnt ask for a picture anymore. Not sure what im doing wrong.
The title of your video is very inaccurate. You CANNOT turn ANY image into a cutter. The 3 that I tried before giving up failed. And they kept randomly majorly increasing in size for absolutely no reason.
This is amazing, any other way is so annoying to do and takes forever, thank you so much!!!
Thank you so much for this!!! Is there a way to add more than 1 cutter? Say I wanted to fit 5 cutters in the space so I could print 5 of them at once.
You should be able to just copy and paste the object or use the duplicate function and add new images to it.
@@diyslaps Awesome! Thank you so much!!!!

would love to know how to add custom text for printing on a cookie with this cutter??
@@mary-ellencamp4610 you would have to first make a SVG file with the text then import it

Try different SVGs. Some are not capable of creating into a cookie cutter.

Make sure your SVG is completely black and all connected. It has to be a closed object for the generator to work. Try a different SVG.

Unfortunately with the generator you can’t alter that part of the cutter. You would have to design it from scratch

You can replace the heart with your image. Make sure the entire dog bone is black. I found a dog bone image on svgrepo and it worked fine.

You have to drag and drop your SVG to replace the heart file.

Will it not let you make the original shape you tried that worked? You can try making a copy of the shape generator again and try the object again.
Can you link the tinkercad page with the generator? I cannot find it on the search

If a shape is too complex for the generator then it will just turn into a random shape instead of the generated shape.
Also how can I add an extra blade and rounded flange(handle)? Thank you
