Thanks for this tutorial. I volunteered to provide cookies for my kid's HS band awards ceremony and thought "What could be better than a caricature of the band director?" Your tutorial gave me just about everything I needed for the cutter base and I had to re-learn a little more InkScape to do the embossed lines for the features. It was a success! My only problem was I had made some lines too thin the first time so they didn't get printed. I have to remember to check the slider preview before printing...

How do I make a cookie cutter of a shape I found online? I designed the star one like you did but when I tried to import a picture and follow the same steps it didn't work. Tried to get rid of the fill and it stayed black.

I am trying to follow these steps with a design I made. I imported a png line drawing into Inkscape, used the trace bitmap function to get a path, and adjusted the thickness of the path to create three different svg files. On my computer, the svg drawings show different thicknesses, but when I import them into Tinkercad, they all are the same thickness. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
One thought is that the path in Inkscape seems to be one singular one on top of the line drawing instead of one around the outside of the line and one around the inside of the line. Could that be the problem? If so, how would I fix that?

Hi Troy! Thank you for the video's!! I've Subscribed and look forward to seeing all your videos. I'm learning to make cookie cutters and have followed your video to the T but after the point of changing the sizes of all three stars, when I try moving the second one to save in the boxed area the changed size part (2.0) is moving to the box then there is still a star from that move. I can not delete and then the stars to the side of the box are saved as well when I put them into Tinkercad. Hope that makes sense....help please!
I think my Inkscape version is different than yours but not sure that matters. Thanks!

This was exactly what I've been looking for. However, if this was a cookie cutter with a design inside, would we use the same bottom measurements and middle, or make it even shorter?

Having done this for a year more since the posting of this video, have you discovered a way to make a smooth transition instead of the more obvious 2 stepped wall? I'm looking to create a clay cutter and want more of a "bladed" edge.
If you're wanting a tapered edge, I can't imagine a way to get that without sanding. A resin printer perhaps, but I have not worked with them so I'm not sure of their capabilities.

Hi, I followed this tutorial but when it comes to changing the thickness of the line, it stayed the same. I started with a line drawing of a leaf, not a filled in image. What should I do to change the thickness of the line please?
The problem with starting with a line drawing is that you have two paths, an inner and an outer path, even if the line is thin. You need to start with a solid shape. The best way would be to do Path then Break Part and delete the inner object and start with the outer solid object.
@TroyTube Thank you for explaining this. I have turned the line drawing into two solid shapes, as the inside of the leaf had veining, and then made two objects. I then used tinker cad to assemble it. Hope it works out when it comes to print.
@@TroyTube An update on the printing, hope you can help. The slicer didn't slice the 0.8mm wall. I selected print thin walls, it showed the wall in the preview. But when it printed, the walls were like a raft diagonal lines with thin layers in between making a net, and not adhered to the next layer of the cookie cutter (the holder). Is there anything I can do in the profile settings to fix the thin walls?

Not really, at least none that I could find that compared. At one time there was one on the App store that was a scam where they were tricking people into using it on a remote server window which gave them access to your login, passwords, etc. Not sure if it's still out there or not, but be careful for any that actually say they are inkscape for ipad because it does not exist.

PLA filament is generally food safe
