I don't have a compressed air pump, but I did work around it with a bicycle foot pump with one of the conical attachments for inflating pool toys. I put the attachment into one end of a short carb hose and put the other end onto the pilot jet. Then I was able to blow out the blockage.
Just wanted to say thank you. I "Cleaned" my carb before watching your video. Still wouldn't run. Your example of cleaning the jet with a small wire (I used guitar string) saved me. It was plugged, and it would not run. Now it runs like a charm. Thanks for putting this out there. It really helped.
Dude great video. I have a GY6 150cc. I need to clean soon because its not starting. I will try to clean the carburetor to see if it fully starts up. This is so helpful.
Base on my own scooter components replacement record file, I listing them as below: (1) scooter fuel tank use 18661KM (2) scooter spark plug cap use 3535KM (3) scooter fuel filter use 6668KM (4) only those fuel lines I never very detail to check to replace that before! If you have further suggestion, please make me know to fix my trouble here, thanks!
Thanks a lot for making this tutorial. I am having some issues with my scooter and was not feeling very confident about tackling a carb clean but after watching you work, I Feel confident to give it a shot.
Piaggio typhoon 50cc. I drilled out little copper plug that looked like the one you drilled out but there was no screw under it, only 2 little holes. I think I screwed up my carburetor now.
Amazing video....i cleaned everything & checked under the floater as well....clean that ho ho ho as well.....put back together & baam....like brand new....cost me 10$ instead of 80$ from a mechanic....thanks again....
My SYM carburetor scooter over half year that engine does not working in Taiwan! Due to my fuel tank located within under SYM scooter pedal, and I try to push scooter start motor switch and then I got some situations as below: (1) engine cylinder pressure is 126psi (2) spark plug has flash (3) fuel tank is not pushing gasoline through the fuel filter out? It seems my scooter fuel line system has block issue, could you offer some suggestions to help me fix my breakdown scooter here, thanks!
Thanks for the vid. I can't tell you how it saved me. That #35 jet was plugged on mine and it wouldn't idle. Thought it was clear, but nope. Did the wire trick and carb cleaner/air blast. All good now.
Ok I've been on here looking for all my scooter problems when they come up or needed for Up-Grades etc...This was the FIRST with a CABO 50 in them. Thank God I understood the video without double watching checking over etc. Cause its my bike lol. Thanks again brother any other videos for future reference??
You dropped some knowledge. It's much appreciated. . If I bbk to 72 an it was 50. What size jet should I use at basically sea level an does it make sense to put the fuel filter in-between the tank an vacuum pump?
I need to change my carburetor tray. If I remove the carburetor, not moving the adjustment screws will it throw the carburetor out of control. Thks four your excellent video 😊I
Awesome video and great explanations - thanks for uploading it! Do you need to clean the tiny holes in the sides of the brass tube that the vacuum-controlled main jet needle drops through?
Thanks for the video. It is a great help. I have (2) 2007 Honda Elite 80 cc. Both scooters have less than 160 miles each. I watched this video and got 1 of them running today by following your advice. I will tackle the other carb tonight. Pilot jet was clogged and I made sure all the passageways were clear with air comp... Its time to part with them, just want to have them running great. Thanks Again
Hello! I have a Buddy 50 cc scooter. It runs great except for sometimes it hesitates a little in the sense that it will turn off at strange times when I am going lower speeds or it will not turn on.. In order to get it to turn on I carry a little screw driver and carb cleaner and I will take off the air filter cover and spray the intake with carb cleaner and put it back on. Then I go to start and it starts VERY good. It was just brought to a shop who charge like $200+ for a carburetor cleaning and spark plug replacement. The shop is called Boca Scooters… I am NOT convinced that they did honest work but I don’t know know for sure. I would like to have it turn on normally. (without having to have to spray the carb cleaner every time) I believe that I need to work on the carburetor again or get replaced altogether OR get a valve adjustment. I would like to bring it to a different shop but I don’t know really where to start. Gas is clean, premium used (50CC 2018 Buddy) Carb JUST got cleaned but NOT positive they did honest work…….. Spark plug all new. Where should I start from here?
Instead of running your battery down or covering the air box with you hand to fill the float bowl, just pull the vacuum line off the intake manifold and suck in like your hitting a bong 4 or 5 times and the bowl will fill up. Put the vacuum line back on and the bike should fire instantly. Also, if your bike wont start after cleaning the carb check your valves (assuming you have already checked for spark). By the time the gy6 engines get to the 3,000-4,000 mile mark the valves will need to be adjusted. Set them to 0.004" Intake and Exhaust.
@@Scooterswapshop On my carbe the pilot jet hole is completely clogged and the jet wire cleaner is not doing the job i even put it on my drill while holding the wire to drill it out but its not working i might have to buy a new pilot hole jet.
My little Baja adirt bike became hard to start, and wasn't running real good. After about a dozen times of taking it off, cleaning it every which way but loose, and no luck, I went to Amazon and bought a new one for $12. Put it on, and it started on the first pull, and ran like a champ.
I have a sym100, I cleaned out the carb, when cold it should sit a wile before it rev up. 2 stroke. I have one question... That hole in the float bowl where that tube from the choke fit in, Should it be open at the bottom of the bowl to the main compartment, or should it be blocked. If I look in the bowl, it looks as if there is a small brass part between the bowl and the chamber where the choke pipe fits in. But as I checked, it is closed. I am talking about that port that you first inserted at 25:34. Should it be open at the bottom or not connected to the main bowl??
Do I need to drain my tank if I'm doing a carb cleaning. I live in the south so i use my scooter daily so it doesn't sit. Also first time about to try this.
Regarding float bowl gasket swelling at 23:36 mark. Try cleaning the gasket with soap and water (e.g. Windex) and rinse with cold water. Then treat the gasket with Prolong Super Protectant PSL60017. The gasket will usually return to its original shape. Treating with Prolong is an optional but recommended step.
Verry informative. Could you make a video explanation on the needle and the diaphragm on top of the carb. Does it have to move, how much, how to be sure it's in good shape, etc...
So wish you were closer. I just scored one of these bikes and it needs the carb done and the lifters adjusted as well. She starts but when you give her fuel or try to warm her up she stalls out. just did the battery. can't find a place near me willing to work on her.
How can you access the mixture screw without completely disassembling the exterior coverings. Should the mixture setting screw have been set a more accessible position?
Depends on the bike. If it’s a Chinese scooter or a bike with a lot of fairings too have to take the fairings off. This isn’t something you have to adjust all the time
I also, in addition to everything you did here and this was a wonderful explanation, I placed a brand new fuel filter on the fuel line. It was a shock to find green mold growing inside the filter I'd installed just a month ago. Man these things can be problematic. Never put anything but pure new gas in there, never.
For the O-ring that expands, something else I saw on another video with an expanded cd drive rubber ring is put it in boiling water for a few minutes and that'll shrink it back down
Great video! Cleaning out the pilot jet and the mixture jet circuit did the trick. Also, adjusting the mixture screw 2 turns helped the idle out so much. My scooter would start but only idle for a 5-7 seconds before dying. It had been sitting for 5 months over the winter. The scooter is a Lance PCH 125.
Dude you know this stuff.. I got a gen v 50 maddog. I a bought a blacktop serviceable cvk from parts for scooters an Im not a carb tuner but seems like the something wasn't right with it. I don't know. I've bbk 72cc ncy CVT. A just bought another wiring harness from where I bought the bike an it is started twice but that's it. Does it make sense to go with a pe carb with manual choke. I'm on the East Coast in the middle
So I have a Tao Tao 50 cc scooter, the carb looks exactly like this one. It only has 35 miles on it and has been running like crap. The factory carb is sealed so you can't remove the 3 screws there is no head on them. I ordered a brand new carb online and put it in, it fires right up but only idles, as soon as I give it gas is kills. I am lost, any ideas?
I wanted to fit a manual choke to mine as it doesn't start without your hand over the carb is there ne listed or will change the carb for another type very nice video on cleaning very helpful and informative regards mark
I clraned my carborator and put it all back together but now instead of not running it only runs a few seconds at a time I'm puzzled. In the bowel I found a substance that resembled vasolene what was that?
I tried to restore my bike Honda Lead 98 (2T). It kept running too rich especially in the morning. It ran for 2 days then couldnt get it to start. I am thinking of giving it another go, I wonder if I gonna need new parts. Very frustrating sometimes I just wanna scream.
I will be opening up the idle adjustment screw next on a Baja SC50. Do you know the valve adjustment specs for this bike. I believe it is a 2002. Most people differ on measurements. Thank you! Great video!
Great video. Took mine apart and a little small ball fell out of the carb. Any idea where it goes on the fuel pumper? Hard to find a diagram for this crab
I remember somehow. It's probably some kind of a one way valve. You opened a screw, then there is a spring and the ball underneath it. Just drop it in the hole and put the spring and screw on.
I just bought a metropolitan from an auction that has 1146 miles on it. Was missing air filter and a couple cracked plastics. It barley wanted to start and the fuel pump was clicking like crazy. I replaced the pump, added a stock filter and I believe I did a good job cleaning the carb and I also reset the ECU. Now it fires up in 2 or 3 kicks. Idles good and seems to run good on the stand but it bogs at about 1/3 throttle when the wheel is on the ground. Am I missing something or do I need to take another shot at cleaning my carb?
Nice job on the info and the production. I have gy6 lance soho 50cc running top performance for stock BUT the idle surges from about 1750 to 3100 if it sits after warm up. 20 seconds from hi to low idle Rev it to 5k on kickstand and release it ids slow to come to idle. HELP.
Question, my 2020 49cc wolf islander with 3890.1 miles does not have the power to get from 0 to 40 like it used to, also I had to make it idle higher to keep it from shutting off after letting idle. Things I did to fix but did not work: changed spark plug, fuel filter, air filter, and valve adjustment. Valves were okay. The spark plug was wet oily looking after letting it sit for two days. I am thinking my carburetor might need cleaning or replacement. What is your professional opinion????? Thank you. Someone please help and I thank you.
Hi, it is probably one of the best videos i have seen on the subject. sadly i wasn't able to start my piaggio 50cc 4T..which has the same carburetor. I have a question but i don't know if you still read messages.
Can I use a PZ20 instead of a PX19? It’s a 1997 xr70r stock engine but I can only afford one. I know there Chinese parts but it’s just a fun bike with the kids. I’ve had 3 CT70’s green, red and blue. Only one was a manual clutch and the smaller kids liked the automatic. I have had 3 z50’s. But anyways can you tell me which carb will work better please.
Hi good vids man. I have a kynco 500 and the engine coolant drips out from the breather line any toghts And also it dont idle is really rought and rpm goes ip and down when u rev it uo to like 5k it goes down after couple sec. I need some help. I clean carb some and swap all fluids
Very helpful, thank you! My scooter's float somehow managed to get half full with fuel despite no visible holes and no drainage after removing.... hell of a thing.
I just did a big bore kit on a 2021 Amigo Speedy 50 to 80, it still has the 50cc carb on it. It isn't getting fuel, so a good clean and adjustment is needed. Do I need to change to a larger carb if that doesn't work?
Nice job! Im having two issues, one is if I left the fuel valve open the next day the cylinder is flooded with fuel. The second one is new, in low RPM the bike is gasping but at full throttle works fine. What I need to do? thx
Howdy. I have a Yamaha Majesty 250cc. When the engine is cold it starts well. After it warms up, it stops and doesn't even start beating :) If I lift the 3 ... 5 mm carburetor from the intake manifold, the scooter starts and goes well. How I stick it to the gallery, how it stops. I opened and cleaned the carburetor, except for the jigler with the lid, which you removed with the drill (the one outside). Can you tell me, please, what is its role? Thank you.
Have you ever seen a 139QMB that shuts down once it is warmed up but starts right back up only to die over and over again? I replaced the entire top end on one ( torqued to 20 in.lb ). Valves set at .004 intake and .006 exhaust. All electronics have been tested to be within parameters. The longer it runs ( the warmer the engine gets ) the shorter the time it shuts down. It does not matter if it is idling or part throttle. Starts right back up, idles correctly & great acceleration, just will not stay running. P.S. it is getting spark even past where it shuts down ( tested with a timing light ). Carb. has been meticulously cleaned twice. Definitely not in the carburetor as I have changed the carb. out with 2 new ones, a 20mm and a 24mm.
Have you checked your fuel valve from the tank ? I replaced my vacuum fuel valve with the manual type . bad diaphragm or vacuum leaks will affect the valve then you are not getting the right amount of fuel.
@@donrodriguez8615 I did, I bypassed the petcock vacuum valve and put in a regular inline valve ... I'm thinking its the needle & seat thats messed up on mine ... I can hit 20mph quick... then it stumbles ... let go for a second and I can maintain that speed

I wanted to fit a manual choke to mine as it doesn't start without your hand over the carb is there ne listed or will change the carb for another type very nice video on cleaning very helpful and informative regards mark
sounds like you need a tune up first
I clraned my carborator and put it all back together but now instead of not running it only runs a few seconds at a time I'm puzzled.
In the bowel I found a substance that resembled vasolene what was that?
do you disconnect the battery before working on the inside?
Bit late and i'm not sure but why not do it to be sure. Takes 2 min
NO NEED there is no electronics
I tried to restore my bike Honda Lead 98 (2T). It kept running too rich especially in the morning. It ran for 2 days then couldnt get it to start. I am thinking of giving it another go, I wonder if I gonna need new parts. Very frustrating sometimes I just wanna scream.
Great step by step teaching. Thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
I will be opening up the idle adjustment screw next on a Baja SC50. Do you know the valve adjustment specs for this bike. I believe it is a 2002. Most people differ on measurements. Thank you! Great video!
gonna have to google valve specs
Extremely informative thank you.
Great video. Took mine apart and a little small ball fell out of the carb. Any idea where it goes on the fuel pumper? Hard to find a diagram for this crab
No, sorry
Am I missing something or do I need to take another shot at cleaning my carb?
hard to say
Excellent tutorial ❤
Yes I done just like what you done on the video and now gas is comeing out the back of the carb what do I do to fix it
not to sure what your asking but you did something wrong go back thru it assemble properly
HELP.
Sounds like you have a carb issue .
Dang thanks! I'm about to start the project of reviving my mom's scooter so I really needed some info on carb cleaning... thanks again
yes sir
Question, my 2020 49cc wolf islander with 3890.1 miles does not have the power to get from 0 to 40 like it used to, also I had to make it idle higher to keep it from shutting off after letting idle. Things I did to fix but did not work: changed spark plug, fuel filter, air filter, and valve adjustment. Valves were okay. The spark plug was wet oily looking after letting it sit for two days. I am thinking my carburetor might need cleaning or replacement. What is your professional opinion????? Thank you.
Someone please help and I thank you.
we dont mess with the chinese bikes just take it step by step
This video is excellent. Very well done.
Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!
Hi, it is probably one of the best videos i have seen on the subject.
sadly i wasn't able to start my piaggio 50cc 4T..which has the same carburetor. I have a question but i don't know if you still read messages.
Hi we do but we can’t diagnose issues over UA-cam unfortunately
I clean carb some and swap all fluids
take it to a dealer
Very helpful, thank you! My scooter's float somehow managed to get half full with fuel despite no visible holes and no drainage after removing.... hell of a thing.
Glad it helped
I just did a big bore kit on a 2021 Amigo Speedy 50 to 80, it still has the 50cc carb on it. It isn't getting fuel, so a good clean and adjustment is needed. Do I need to change to a larger carb if that doesn't work?
You need to tune the carb and jet it
@@Scooterswapshopwhat is a good jet kit for that application?
Nice job! Im having two issues, one is if I left the fuel valve open the next day the cylinder is flooded with fuel. The second one is new, in low RPM the bike is gasping but at full throttle works fine. What I need to do? thx
jet it differently til you get to the desired tune. or re clean float could be damaged or stuck
Great job on this video! It is fantastic!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the video. My scooter was working fine, now it starts but as soon as i give it gas it dies.... thats the carburetor right ?
sounds like one option
Thanks for the great video. I don't have an air compressor, would air in a can work ?
That won’t produce much air pressure but it’s better than nothing!
Scooterswapshop Would it work if i just blow it really hard with my mouth?
Uhm that didnt really sound how i wanted....
I needed to use a can of compressed air and that worked for me
Very clear instructions my friend...
Thank you...👍🙏
You are welcome
just done mine but it hunting up and down,is this lettting air through the mixure srew?cause theres no o ring on the screw?
every carb is slightly different.
Thank you.
Could be
Nice video! I have a 50 hp chinese scooter and it only runs on idle and wont rev up, what can be the problem?
would need to know alot more then that and need it in front of us to diagnose it
Awesome video....btw what size are the carburetor float bowl screws? I have a taotao 50cc and it has 3 float bowl screws--I lost one of them....
depends on your carb
Definitely not in the carburetor as I have changed the carb. out with 2 new ones, a 20mm and a 24mm.
same issue here
Have you checked your fuel valve from the tank ? I replaced my vacuum fuel valve with the manual type . bad diaphragm or vacuum leaks will affect the valve then you are not getting the right amount of fuel.
@@donrodriguez8615 I did, I bypassed the petcock vacuum valve and put in a regular inline valve ... I'm thinking its the needle & seat thats messed up on mine ... I can hit 20mph quick... then it stumbles ... let go for a second and I can maintain that speed
@@esbekay do you know what slot the clip is in on the needle ? Top , bottom , second from bottom ??
@@esbekay how many turns out is your mixture screw ?
Totally super instructions, my daughters Vespa runs great afther the cleaning job
Wonderful
