Scotty Kilmer gotta say you're probably the only Texan that loves Toyotas. never had one myself but i know they're great cars just not a fan of the body style .
Corolas best car? Bought me one brand new and the thing flip over at 25 mph hitting another car and was totaled. My Gf had one kep it longer 5 years major rust developed on the doors. The body panels will rust long before the motor get killed. Highly unstable at over 50 mph they shake vibrate and rattle true their motor will last that is true for every Japanise 4 piston motors they all made the same. Japanese companies are notorious for sponsoring fake advertizment on internet they badmouth the companies they actually copy their products from. Why Toyota Scotty Honda seems like a better choice. Anyway i only drive Mercedes and work on them myself also have a Mustang Cobra to satisfy my speed demon.
People hate but you still see many generations of Corollas on the road. Some beat up or in good conditions. Not everyone wants a 500HP car, gas guzzlers, unreliable or sports cars. The Corolla is perfect for the daily needs of the average person. It will take you to school, work, wherever life takes you, for many years, without any problems. When a good mechanic like Scotty says Toyota’s and Corollas are the best, believe him.
I will take an older diesel Mercedes Benz, Volvo, Mitsubishi, Ford Crown Vic, Chev Impala, Subaru, over a toyota or honda, as toyota or honda is too boring and too common, and I don't wanna drive same boring toyota or honda car as other people do.
The Royal Crowned Tiger The Crown Vic isn't a bad choice either if you don't mind the gas guzzling V8 under the hood, and the Volvo/Subaru can be good if you don't skip the maintenance. All of those others are...shitheaps at best.
There's a reason why you see so many Prii, Corollas, Camrys, and other Toyotas still on the road from various model years. Personally though I'm pretty sure the Prius has the ability to outlive all of them so long as either a. you're the type of person who drives a Prius in such a way that the battery won't die - it is possible, or b. you don't have a problem replacing the battery periodically. Thing is, the Prius is a mechanically simple automobile - it's the electronics that can get complicated, and since we all know Toyota is really good at making electronics we should assume that those don't fail much.
The Royal Crowned Tiger Exactly bro. iKR. I would rather get an unreliable fun sports car. I don’t care if I have to spend a lot of money because I can afford so Ic an obviously afford to fix it.
I have a 2010 Corolla S and I love that car. Rides smooth, never breaks down, so reliable, and not to mention I only stop at the gas station to get snacks.
@@Judgemental_Crow Good joke that you only go to a gas station to buy snacks rather than gas. AKA Corolla gets amazing gas mileage as well and it rarely breaks down to where failing parts cause your gas mileage to go up.
I can testify to that, i had a 95' Corolla from 2000 to 2013 until i sold it with 245k on it...i still see it running around on the street frim time to time.
It funny how people that never had a toyota are surprised that it never had major service done... I had a 98 Camry that we bought brand new and put over 400k miles on. All we did was basic maintenance (oil change ever 5k km, replace pads and timing belt and changed tranny oil at 100k miles) and the car never broke down. When we got rid of it we thought it would be a waste to junk it so we shipped it to Africa to be a taxi.
Scotty, I totally agree with you 100%! My first car when I got my license back in 2004 was a 1998 Toyota Corolla and I still drive it to this day. It's been 13 years now. The mileage is 190,000 miles and still runs like a champ. Granted, the paint job is pretty much faded, but it's the performance that matters. Even though I picked up a 2015 Toyota Camry, I still use my good old Corolla as a work vehicle. Bottom line, Toyota Cars last FOREVER! Whether it's Corolla, Camry, Prius, or Celica, it will never break down in normal usage.
Thats so good to know cause i might be buying one in 2 weeks . A LE thats all i could afford with inflation being so high . Im tired of american cars . Ive had so many .
Its good to know that Toyota can last forever . Last longer then a gm car ? I always thought that all cars are good until the warranty expires in most cases its true . I just wanna make sure that im making good choice buying a Toyota Corolla LE ?
@@n.ll.8796I don't know about the new ones but my dad's 2010 Corolla is still kicking just fine at 200k miles. Never did anything on it besides basic maintenance like oil changes and brakes.
Toyotas are always over engineered when it comes down to the mechanical nitty gritty. I'm a mechanic and regularly see Toyotas with hundreds of thousands of miles that just keep on going and going. They just stand up to abuse and wear and tear better than anything else on the market. That's not to say that other manufacturers dont build good cars, just seems to be that Toyota really has mastered the lean manufacturing process and builds extremely reliable engineered engines /transmissions.
Indrick Boreale hi. I bought my 2004 Corolla in 2003. I still have it and it’s over 300,000 miles. It looks brand new inside and out. I made sure I took care of it and in return in took care of me
They used the Kaizen method, they improve what's already working as long as there's room for that, And tested before they put it into production. A few years ago I replace suspension and swaybar links in my old camry, my personal mechanic told me buy OEM swaybar links, bc generic suspension does the job, but not for the swaybar , so I bought 2 OEM and 2 from AutoZone, and then He told me in 5 years or so you'll need to change those generic ones bc they will die and OEM will continue to work. Boy he was right I ended up expending more money in the end bc I bought cheap and have to replace it anyways. This time I bought OEM and the old OEM ones are still strong after 6 years.
I love this guy, one reason is that instead of being INCREDIBLY obnoxious like most youtubers are with "Subscribe" and "Ring that bell notification", Scotty actually makes it humorous and not forceful and dragged out. Many props to you, Scotty.
Scotty I work at a Toyota dealer as a mechanic. They are amazing cars, I actually was working on one with a transmission problem and nobody believed me because they had never heard of a Corolla with transmission issues.
jason c only thing that bugs me bow is corolla has cvt. I think thats whats gonna bring toyota down.....and mazda outting there sticky parts in the fake sedan yaris ......but i love toyotas...bought a 2000 ve with 220000km...for 300$. Had for a full year and didnt do a single thing to it.
joshyddd I dislike CVTs as well but at least the ones Toyota uses function properly and are robust. There are hundreds of Prius taxi on the road exceeding 300k and proving just that. According to the cabbies I have ridden with the cars still run basically flawlessly.
The Japanese took over the automotive industry because they decided planned obsolescence wasn’t a good business plan for them. People around the world got fed up with their home market cars breaking down sporadically so they tried out Toyota, Nissan/Datsun, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, etc. The Toyota Corolla is as much car as most people need hence why it’s the best seller of all time. The backseat is more than adequate for even a 6’ 2” tall man like me.
Man I have a 98 Camry bought it s used from a dealer 7 years ago, I drive that thing everyday in traffic and highway, AC is colder than my 2013 CRV my camry almost never break, it only needs basic maintenance and a timing belt every 5 years and of course change tranny oil and filter every 70k miles. This thing is a tank, bc of the year I upgraded the electronics to something more modern but other than that, this car is indestructible...
My cousin had a Corolla and she had over 400,000 kilometers when she traded it in for a RAV 4. The dealer wanted to display it in the showroom, for it's dependability.
Sad day the other day had a 2010 Corolla with 100k. Daughter drove it for college. Car was bullet proof no problem but she rear ended a SUV and totaled it. But when I went to go get her she was walking without a scratch best day and car ever
carlito biggs yep there really good cars even with minimal maintenance done to it way less then the recommended maintenance mines an 03 and going strong but is in need of some minor work done soon
My Dad had a 1970 Corona and I inherit the Toy until 1983 when some bozo failed to stop at the intersection 😕 Till this day I miss that car...I bought a 2009 Corolla, presently it's pushing almost 280K miles. Recently went cross country with my son and we got an average of 38 MPG with a/c blasting cold air. Car still drives like it's new 😁
After seeing this video I when out a bought a 2014 Corolla best car I have ever had its funny dudes laughing at my Corolla at the gas station filling there Ram 1500 paying $180 on gas thinking there cool with there big gas guzzling trucks I pull in to get a slushy more often then gas thanks mr Kilmer.
Skullinhand Underground lol exactly. I bought my first Corolla last month and about every two weeks I put maybe 18 bucks to top her off. It crazy the gas mileage.
+Ren Aquino, I have one also one of them & as old as it is I'm gonna paint it & keep it as a backup car it's the best car I've ever driven. I've drove acu
I am a mechanic and bought a 1992 Toyota Corolla with 242,000 miles on it in March as my second car so I could keep the miles down on my nice car. I replaced the front and rear struts with coilovers, both cv axles, both inner and outer tie rods, got four brand new tires, changed the spark plugs and distributor cap, changed the pcv valve, the valve cover gasket, both ball joints, the termostat, the fuel filter and added slotted rotors and ceramic pads. All this only cost me a whopping $1200! Some of those high end luxury cars cost that much for basic service. Heck, a set of tires on some of them cost more than $1200. And if anything major ever went wrong like if the engine went out it would cost me $500 max to buy another good used one, and maybe another $500 or so to pay somebody to install it if I chose. You really can't beat that it isn't just a car for people who can barely make ends meet it is also a car for people who like to save their money and spend it on more important things.
Elizabeth Marks-Graham You are right I would have paid well over $1000 in labor at the dealer. The parts themselves don't cost much so I'm glad I was able to put them on and avoid spending a whole lot of money.
Classified Info preach... bought a 99 Camry to keep the miles low on my ‘13 Caddy... bought new everything for the Camry shocks springs brakes battery window regulators and I’m not close to $1k... one shock for the caddy $652 (no labor just the part)
Here's my own experience, in 2006 I bought a 2004 corolla, neglected the service, just done oil change whenever I felt like, this thing now has done 290k+ and still going. Recently bought 2006 Ford Fiesta with only 160k on the clock thinking my corolla is boring but since day one my life has become a nightmare, every jobs you do for this car cost you a fortune because the parts needed to be replaced is buried within other parts. Finally the engine ceased and it's now in the junkyard. Looking at my trusty old corolla I decided to give it a TLC and do a proper service this time.
She's like that girl you never realized how amazing she truly is. You treat her like crap, hate looking at her sometimes, but she's always there, and will always be there
my parents bought a 2007 Corolla from the dealer with 8 miles, ten years later the engine gave out at 245k Miles which is pretty good, they put a new engine on it and its still going strong. its pretty cheap to run, best car ever.
I completely agree. I have a 2005 Toyota Corolla. It just hit 170K miles today, in the time I’ve owned it. All I needed to replace was filter and oil. Brakes, tires and a cv joint. It’s been under my possession for 120K miles. The only problem I have now is the a/c just went out and now sure what it is. Other than that, the transmission is great along with the engine. I believe this will easily last me to 250K and after that I will upgrade to another corolla.
Yea around 240-250k miles is when you really start to hear noises from the suspension or rattles in the cabin. The engine can go on forever but you gotta start to take care of and replace the other components if you want a smooth and safe ride. New cars are insanely expensive nowadays so it might be a better decision to shell out a couple thousand dollars or more to fix your old car rather than to finance a brand new car. Just something to consider.
97 Corolla was my first car, bought it new, drove it over 60 miles to and from work. Then gave it to my sisters to go to college which had about 90k miles and no issues. One of them had taken it up in NY for 10 years. It's now back down in DC and the other sister owns it and has 236k miles and still running strong. They are built to last.
My dad bought a used 96 corolla back in 98 up to this day dec 2018 that car has 381000 miles and stills drives everyday like a boss ,toyota is the best
I work in a Toyota dealership as a lube technician. We somewhat regularly see cars with far north of 250,000 miles come in that still run perfect. Unlike my Ford, that has cost me a fortune and it's only got 62000 miles.
Tim Pape I have had to get the convenience module reprogrammed because my digital climate control crapped out. Whenever ford sends the dealership the parts to fix the recalled clutch (at least the end of july was the latest update) it'll have a new clutch. I've got to replace the throttle body and strut bushings when i get it back. The tires that they put on it at the factory had to be replaced at 35000 because they just wore out super fast. I just want the car back so I can trade it off on something else.
I've got my 2011 ford fusion to 199000 right now, had a great life and now its going to crap everything at once. Crossing my fingers the transmission and engine will keep her going. Just doing maintenance stuff like the control arm, wheel bearings, belt, etc. It sucks all at once but I'm proud... Being a ford and all 😂
Kayleen Winter I was actually thinking about buying a Ford Fusion for my first car 😩 I hear that they are reliable, but also that they aren’t. Would you recommend buying one? Since you are a fusion owner
Eliseo Quezada honestly I have no idea. I would do more research into the year you want and stuff. There's been a few recalls for my cars year and I heard some fusions had a recall for the steering wheel coming off while driving.. Just do more research. I'm not sure how much longer mine will last lol
I can Testify that Toyota Corollas are virtually indestructible, We had a 1987 DX manual that my mom drove for 10 years then it was my car and then my brother's car. The two teenagers tried to kill it but did not succeed as hard as we tried.
My wife owns a 2009 Corolla, clearly the best car we've ever owned. 225,000 miles and it always starts. Im passing it down to my son and buying her a Rav4 we are sold on Toyota.
My ‘01 Camry LE has 311,000 miles on it with original engine and original automatic trans. that runs strong!! Not a whole lot of maint. I just put new struts, strut mounts on. I repainted it and tinted the windows 6 years ago and it still looks brand new! The car has everything I want, cold a/c, a great heater, CD player, cruise, power windows, locks and power factory sliding moonroof, the ride is great, has great gas mileage, can go 620 highway miles on a tank of gas, 33 mpg, plenty of space to haul things. I even serviced and ran my 5 machine vending business with it filling the car with 9 plastic tubs of chips, soda and candy bars when I owned a small vending route. After owning a Porsche and other sports cars, I’ll never drive anything but late 90’s to early 2000s Camry’s. I’ll especially never buy a Porsche again, such junk!!!
2 years ago my 20 year old daughter wanted to buy a new Fiat. I refused to cosign on a Fiat. I talked her into a 2015 Corolla with 65,000 miles instead. She's doubled the mileage and not had any problems at all. Nothing but oil changes. It's such a great car I'm actually considering downsizing into a Corolla myself!
Mississippi_Man1 , Me too! But we are making crap now compared to this. Brand new American cars breaking down in a month. Trust me friend. .. I hear soo many horror stories. Hell, I'm buying one soon lol
@Dion St. Michael This is true. I have an 07 Corolla which is the most reliable car I've ever owned. I do regular maintenance, changed the belts once, put in a new battery recently and it runs like new still. I get told frequently that the aircon is the coldest they have felt.
Good news!!! Just bought my daughter a Corolla for her birthday and plan to give it to her in July. The bad news is I took it to a good mechanic just to be sure it's road ready and told him to take his time. I hope it's ready before next month😶
My dad neglected his 2001 Toyota Corolla. Changed the oil maybe once year. Drove it everyday to commute to his workplace on a rural farm 20 miles away. It lasted him 15 years. The engine was still strong but the body rusted out. I think if it were any other car it would have gave out after 10 years at the most. I've never seen a car take soo much abuse and still be reliable. I'll always consider a Corolla for a daily driver.
We're a Toyota family. We bought our first one in 1986, a Toyota Tercel four wheel drive hatchback. Toyota Corollas are great cars, I agree with you there. But I prefer a Toyota Camry for one reason - airbags. My wife and I were going to a restaurant in our 2008 Toyota Camry when someone came off a side access road when we were driving down the highway at 60 miles an hour. We were t-boned out of nowhere. My wife was driving and the other guy drove his car directly into the driver's side door when we were driving full speed down the highway. We spun around 1 1/2 times across the highway and ended up in a ditch. Thankfully the car did not flip, it stayed on its wheels. We walked away with minor injuries. Here's the takeaway - my wife's head slammed into the passenger side window, or it would have slammed into the passenger side window, but thankfully Toyota Camry's have a passenger side airbag so when my wife's head was going to slam into that glass instead it hit the airbag. She ended up with just a minor cut instead of brain damage. The difference between the Toyota Corolla (8 airbags ) and the Toyota Camry (10 airbags) is all the difference in the world to me.
magicrobharv I’m sure he would say the same great things about the Camry. A little more expensive, but worth it. I just rented a 4 cylinder gasoline 2018 Camry and averaged 52 mpg on the highway. Crazy for a non hybrid and better than the Corolla, which is smaller and less powerful.
My son talks about how small and plain my Toyota Corolla is. Yeap it gets me where I need to be and starts up every time. Winter...started up every morning. So glad this was then only car the sales person could get me into. Turns out it is a great deal.
People need to stop calling them plain. I love my 02 the way it is. I don't want anything more than what it came with! 2000s cars are SO much nicer than these 2010s with all these things on them we don''t need.
I hate how you cannot recirculate the heat without the AC having to be engaged in modern cars, glad I can actually bypass the AC on my 96 model for maximum heat
My wife and I have a 2009 Matrix. 1.8 L engine. Averages 35 mpg. Bought it new and now has a little over 121,000 miles. It can carry a lot of stuff. The only complaint is the CD player took a dump and the OEM serpent belt is junk. Went with a Gatorback belt, but it is starting to give problems too. This is the longest we have ever owned a car both when we were single and now married. Have looked at other hatchbacks because that is all we will ever own and haven't found anything we both like better.
I've got a 2001 Corolla with 300,000 miles, only thing is that year had bad engine rings and it burns about 2 quarts of oil a month, other than that it's never had any trouble, air conditioner colder than my 2009 nissan altima.
That's a real POS then!!! bad piston rings; all from 2001? rings are one of the MOST important parts of any engine!! (it's because of rings that the wankel engine never took off); S T A Y A W A Y from that crap, then, for those who still can, if they blow blue smoke, they pollute much more than those dieselgate vws!
BrazilianTVHD if u have the knowlege and tools and space to work on it there’s diy videos how to change out the o rings on pistons it’s worth it if u can do it yourself not so much of taken to a shop
My 2000 Toyota Corolla has 225k and doesn't burn a drop of oil. The 1ZZ FE pistons didn't have large enough oil return holes which can become clogged. As long as owners change the oil on time though the Engine will be fine. I am the second owner and I've always done maintenance when needed. For my six years of ownership the car has been super reliable. Eighth Generation Corollas are great cars.
I bought a used 2008 Corolla 4 years ago with 60k km as my first car. Not once has it let me down. I'd say it was one of the best decisions I've made, and completely understand why people speak so highly of them.
Agree. I still have my 1998 Toyota Corolla. I've had it for 13 years with 190,000 miles and it still runs like a champ! They're easy to work on too if it needs maintainence.
bought a brand new Corolla in 2006 and had it serviced once at 30,000 k's and then never got it serviced after that (yeah I know that's bad). I just did the oil change myself once every year or two. it's 2018 and I've clocked up 300 000k's ( its 45 kilometres one way from home to work) and its still running like a dream. has never ever broken down or had any problem whatsoever. the only problem you'll get is the tires with punctures etc or maybe even a flat battery from leaving a light on by accident and thats it.
Just picked up a 97 corolla base model based on research and your recommendation. 174,050 miles. Manual everything, no cruise, no AC, no intermittent wipers. So far I love her!
I bought my 2016 Toyota Corolla S brand new and i love it. I am 66 so it will probably be the last car i buy. All you have to do is the regular maintenance as in the owners manual and it will last a looong time. Before this i had a 1995 Toyota Tacoma Truck. So yes, i am a Toyota gal.
Bought one in 2011 new. Now at 205k and drives like 30k just change the Filers and Fluids, maybe a CV joint and brakes. So simple to do all you need is 10,12 and 14 mm sockets. Oh and the oil filter tool....Way better than my work on weekly Buick.
I think the chances are quite high that the next car I get will be a 2040 Prius...after my 2014 Prius C finally dies...then I'll fix the old Prius and give it to my grandson as his first car :P
driving a 2003 Corolla with original engine and standard transmission; got 151,000 and drives strong and smooth like a charm. Never had any issues whatsoever.
They actually did that on a tv show , compare ram , Toyota , Chevy truck ...to see the most strong truck and the one can pull better , And they ended didge the Toyota truck from a hill as a joke .....and when they try 2 start it it crank that was so haillrious
My 2015 Corolla with 90K miles (originally sold in April, 2015) runs literally like it's new! As Scotty says, barely broken in. Looking forward to 300 to 400K+ trouble-free miles in the next few years!
Having a 2013 Corolla without any Engine or Gear or major maintenance because 1- Always changing it's engine oil, oil filter and air filter in time or accordingly. 2- Changed Automatic Transmission oil 4 times and Automatic Transmission filter twice in 8 years. 3- Replaced it's brake pads 3 times and front brake discs respectively. 4- Replaced it's all tyre 2 times only beside wheel Alignment and all wheels balancing at time of tyre changing and once in every years 5- Driven 170843 Kms. 6- Replaced 3 Car Batteries in 8 years (I prefer and recommend only Acid Battery instead of Maintenance free one) Believe me or not, Corolla is indeed a masterpiece of reliability and family transportation.
02 Corolla owner checking in. Has 188K miles. Burns oil, but never broke down or failed to start. Closest it ever came to not starting was when the fuel injectors were clogged.
wholeNwon Yes this model burns alot of oil. I have the same car, most say its a bad pcv. Well idk but the cars are famously known for it. Just the years from 2000 to 2002. Its not bad, it will still run. But if it starts eating too much. Junkyard.
you ain’t lying..as young as I may be these Toyota’s ain’t no joke these cars can do more than get u from A to B these Toyota’s gets u through life..if its not a Toyota I’ll just roll with the Lexus u can’t loose either way
Scotty, thanks so much for posting this video. My wife, who owns a 2006 corolla, recently got it into her head that she should maybe start looking for a new car. Now, I'm not gonna lie, there is NOTHING even remotely exciting or luxurious about this car. The slightly rusted tan paint job and the tan interior is enough to make a person cry from boredom and the driving experience is nothing to write home about, either. But that car starts up every single time. It has never needed anything other than routine maintenance. It really is a total champ. Honestly I think the body will be gone before the engine ever gives out since we live in the northeast. Anyway, I showed my wife this video and it has renewed her pride in her trusty old corolla! I think maybe now she'll be willing to hold onto it until it's really done instead of trading it in for something new and flashy, and this will save us quite a few bucks along the way. Cheers and all the best! Keep the great videos coming!
I bought a 2010 Corolla new. It now has 220,000 miles. It is soooo damn realiable. Never breaks down. Tempted by the 2019 Corolla Hatchback. Never buy anything but a Toyota!
76nhl that's good to hear I bought a used 2009 corolla that had 134000 miles as my first car, I plan to use it well past 200,000 miles and I do like the new corolla hatchbacks or the Scion im's
76nhl, is that the Corolla IM version? I bought one last year and it's so great I can throw my bike in the back with out having to take off the front wheel. I do the park and ride into work for exercise and get paid $3 a day to do so.
I have a 2007 Accord and the build quality is very good. Granted it makes some weird noises going down the road but it drives so good you just ignore it (Can't hear it unless driving slow with windows down). Good car.
Paul Paradiso when they’re old have little kilometres on them and they’re in excellent condition That’s how you know you got a good deal and you know it’s gonna last
Totally agree!! I own a ‘01 Camry LE with an in-line 4 that has 311,000 miles on it and after owning a Porsche and other sports cars I’ll never drive anything but a late 90’s early 2000s Camry. I just had new struts and strut mounts put in and my new mechanic told me he owned a 98 Camry that was bullet proof. He regrets selling it, but in his opinion he said that the 90s Camrys up until 01 was the best, the mid 2000s until now Camrys aren’t that great.
Drive a 94 Toyota Celica with a wing on the back with cheap hub caps. There's nothing wrong with a little facade every now and then! I love it!! You are the man Scotty!!
Love the corolla. My fav corolla is the RWD AE86 and 2005 XRS 6 speed Yamaha motor corolla. The corolla wasn't always about being just reliable it comes from a line of fun to drive cars. The corolla has had so many configurations in its time. RWD to FWD, hatch back, wagon you name it corolla had been it's like a jack of all trades.
Scotty i got a 1994 Toyota Tercel and this car works GREAT !!!!!!! . My wife has a 2007 Yaris she bought new . In Puerto Rico 75% of the people here drives Toyotas
I have a 2009 Camry XLE. I took the one of the spark plugs out after 141,000 miles to see how they look and if I need to change them. Well, these are the original from Toyota and never been changed. Looks like a brand new spark plug to me, so I put it back and I will check in another 10 years LOL.
I buy used corolla 2009 manual 1.6 , Since I was in high school and its with me until now, I finished college and the car has no problems. I only change oil, filters and tires. It really served me well. I advise young people who need a car for college, This car will serve you for a long time 👍 .
I bought an '05 Corolla le 2 years ago with 105k for $5700 plus ttl. Could not believe that someone gave it up. It is as close to perfect as you can get an '05. It's going off to college with my son. My 2006 le has 233k and the first major repair was the original starter at 225k. The only other non-regular maintenance issue was a worn out electric door lock assembly. It still runs like a sewing machine on Mobil 1 0w30 and Toyota oil filters.
Yeah my 2000 Corolla with 225k still has original Starter and Alternator. Even the battery was 14 years old. I only recently replaced it because the post was coming apart. Toyotas are amazingly reliable.
I just bought a used 2016 Corolla with 26K Miles and this video is a good reminder of why I bought it. I had a 2007 Ford Taurus that constantly broke down, went through two transmissions, fuel pumps, misfired often and finally the engine overheated without any warning (I had just topped off coolant a week prior) I hope my Corolla lasts me 600K! Thanks, Scotty!
Toyota cars are fantastic and very reliable i have 1996 Land Cruiser that have been driven 550k Kilometers original Trans / Engine and the car have went to many vallies / mountains and offroading everywhere
Scotty, you're amazing. 50% of the things you post I have no interest in but by the end of the video I'm so happy to have learned something. There's something about you that really knows how to teach. I would kill to have a mechanic like you and encourage you to continue doing what you do very apparently best.
I enjoyed the history lesson. Great video! Crazy how reliable these Corollas are. I rented a newer one in DC back in 2003. Drove it to upstate NY. I thought the gas meter gauge was broken it took so long to start moving down.
I remember the first Toyota dealership, mid-70’s. Detroit had a 12K mile warranty. This dealership offered a 100K warranty on the engine/trans. Unheard of at the time. Jaw-droppingly amazing.
My AC is very cold in the 94 Corolla, but the seatbelt stopped working along with the windows except for the driver's window and also the speedometer and the wire that opens the hood sticks when you try to close it and the paint looks like it was on the moon. I am afraid to open the sunroof in case it won't close. An overlooked advantage of old corollas is how cheap parts are, you can get a 94 fuel pump for 50 bucks. Never have to worry about dents or scratches and it is an awesome chick magnet as they see you driving it and know you must have a lot of money saved up, LOL
Best car and best brand ever, no doubt. But who wants to drive a car that is 10 years old?? No blind spot detection, no traction control, no stability, no fwd collision warning, no GPS, no heated seats....life is not a competition of who can live in the cheapest manner.
SmurfinG35 I agree, I’ve said it a million times, if only Lexus would step up their exterior design, they would definitely put the Germans out of business, because Lexus has a nice interior.

Scotty Kilmer gotta say you're probably the only Texan that loves Toyotas. never had one myself but i know they're great cars just not a fan of the body style .
Scotty Kilmer question: corollas now a days. between 2010 to 2017, will they last?, as the 90's corolla?..
My 2007 Corolla is still running strong, and it just hit 200,000 miles. They obviously didn't loose quality then, yet.
Hey Scotty, how come we don't see too many Inline 6 engines and mostly V6 engines?
ELPJM09 amen exactly! A guy with a beat up car was making fun of my brand new 2019 corolla. I wish I said this to him.
The Royal Crowned Tiger Exactly bro. iKR. I would rather get an unreliable fun sports car. I don’t care if I have to spend a lot of money because I can afford so Ic an obviously afford to fix it.
This is why Scotty is the last and only mechanic I'm subscribed to on UA-cam and I always will be.
Very pleasant and very knowledgeable
Chris fix it has a good channel
I don't consider him a "mechanic".
The Big Pickle then what is he ?
why isnt he a mechanic? wtf are you talking about lol
I have a 2010 Corolla S and I love that car. Rides smooth, never breaks down, so reliable, and not to mention I only stop at the gas station to get snacks.
Lol, good one
@@Sammie551 wym good one?
@@Judgemental_Crow Good joke that you only go to a gas station to buy snacks rather than gas. AKA Corolla gets amazing gas mileage as well and it rarely breaks down to where failing parts cause your gas mileage to go up.
I can testify to that, i had a 95' Corolla from 2000 to 2013 until i sold it with 245k on it...i still see it running around on the street frim time to time.
Why you sold it?
That’s the best satisfaction. Same happens to me in my 89 Toyota 4 runner. My first vehicle
That's cool! You sold a quality product.
K G At the moment I was too young and 20 year later I regret
You were a fool to sell it! :O
Agreed. Two Corollas so far, zero issues in over 300K miles.
Zero. That sounds impossible.
Clark probably his talking about big issues small issues are nothing very easy to repair yourself.
Absolutely yeah they aren't like miserable americans cars enginers on GM or Chrysler
What year Corolla?
Can confirm, my 2008 corolla was rolled down a railroad.
It still started.
I got Toyota corolla 2004, after getting 200K mils. I traveled from Mobile Alabama to Detroit MI. 878 miles in 14 hours.
I love Corolla.
Shoutout to Mobile!!!
It's not simply that they've mastered the process, but that their entire production chain was built from the ground up to maximize its effectiveness.
Do you think it's more engineering design or the tolerance standards of the materials used to build them? I.e. they don't go cheap on ingredients
It’s also because the Toyota is billed to the AK specifications, LOL
We have a friend in California who has a 1993 Corolla with 412,000 miles (660,000 km). The aircon is colder than what his 2003 BMW has.
Probably still got the r12 in it
EJ Tech yes some how the bimmers ac don't blow as cold.
EJ Tech i believe it. Probably best car built or top 3 at the least
bmws air conditioning blow cold as heck, my god i dont know what you have felt but they are ice cold fyi
EJ Tech that was priority no. 1 for me here in northern Australia. Got a 2004 with 180k KMs for $3200 AUD. Aircon is ice cold
My 2009 Corolla is bullet proof.. never had a single problem, not one with over 149,791 miles.. Oh what a feeling!!!
I just picked up a 09 Corolla S. Has 331k mikes.

@@landonb2884 hope you change the oil at the same rate
Do you have to change the transmission fluid on them
Scotty I work at a Toyota dealer as a mechanic.
My 97 Camry with 148k miles had the transmission go out. My dads 97 camry with 201k original miles has no reverse. I guess quality control....???
joshyddd what’s wrong with cvt? Check out the review about the corolla 2018, it shifts and downshifts just like a torque converter auto gearbox.
CVTs are cheaper to make, and get better gas mileage, so you'll be seeing them more often. Even my first car has a CVT! My 2006 Ford Freestyle!
joshyddd I dislike CVTs as well but at least the ones Toyota uses function properly and are robust. There are hundreds of Prius taxi on the road exceeding 300k and proving just that. According to the cabbies I have ridden with the cars still run basically flawlessly.
You very rarely see a Toyota Corolla on the back of a tow truck, they're the Nokia of cars. I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla RV Seca.

Eyyy, My 93 Corolla is chugging along at 230k
The Japanese took over the automotive industry because they decided planned obsolescence wasn’t a good business plan for them. People around the world got fed up with their home market cars breaking down sporadically so they tried out Toyota, Nissan/Datsun, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, etc.
The Toyota Corolla is as much car as most people need hence why it’s the best seller of all time. The backseat is more than adequate for even a 6’ 2” tall man like me.
So I should get a 2,000 04 Toyota instead of the 3,000 Scion
Jaime Bernal yea
Man I have a 98 Camry bought it s used from a dealer 7 years ago, I drive that thing everyday in traffic and highway, AC is colder than my 2013 CRV my camry almost never break, it only needs basic maintenance and a timing belt every 5 years and of course change tranny oil and filter every 70k miles. This thing is a tank, bc of the year I upgraded the electronics to something more modern but other than that, this car is indestructible...
Well said !
Who said Scotty doesn't know, he DOES know! 100% decision made, will be getting a Toyota Corolla
My cousin had a Corolla and she had over 400,000 kilometers when she traded it in for a RAV 4.
The dealer wanted to display it in the showroom, for it's dependability.
They promptly trashed it after y'all were made to believe that lol
Sad day the other day had a 2010 Corolla with 100k. Daughter drove it for college. Car was bullet proof no problem but she rear ended a SUV and totaled it. But when I went to go get her she was walking without a scratch best day and car ever

Car still drives like it's new 😁
My 2009 Corolla has 203,000 miles, no check engine lights, everything still works.

My first car that I ever bought was 2013 Corolla. Love it. Even convinced my husband to buy one too.
Classified Info wow that’s cheap I bet a dealer would have charged 10x what it cost u to do it yourself
Lito Bear I have a Corolla
Make sure the critical suspension and steering parts are checked.
My dad bought a used 96 corolla back in 98 up to this day dec 2018 that car has 381000 miles and stills drives everyday like a boss ,toyota is the best
That generation is a true lawn mower.
Bro check your tire pressures. Keep them a lil bit under the cold max sidewall if you want your tires to last.
The two teenagers tried to kill it but did not succeed as hard as we tried.
i loled at "they tried to kill it"
What kind of trash tries to kill a poor little corolla? Cars are meant to be loved!
Simply the most reliable cars ever, I've 1995 Corolla and it runs perfectly, just drives every day, love and respect them so much
My wife owns a 2009 Corolla, clearly the best car we've ever owned. 225,000 miles and it always starts. Im passing it down to my son and buying her a Rav4 we are sold on Toyota.
Ceasar Coleman just remember that next year the 2019 RAV4 will be a new generation so will look different 💯
Toyota cars are cars that remind people there are some hope of reliability.

Yes just bought one for $200. Is yours a V6? Also it was crashed from the back (totaled)but runs excellent, only 162,000 miles.
Yes sir I agree, 96 Camry owner since 2000 265k miles later it still runs like a champ!

v6 or 4 cylinder and is it still running ?
2 years ago my 20 year old daughter wanted to buy a new Fiat. I refused to cosign on a Fiat. I talked her into a 2015 Corolla with 65,000 miles instead. She's doubled the mileage and not had any problems at all. Nothing but oil changes. It's such a great car I'm actually considering downsizing into a Corolla myself!
good idea i got a family of 5 we all fit in a 06 corolla came from jeep lib
As an American car kind of person, I hate to admit I like these Toyota Corollas.
Mississippi_Man1 , Me too! But we are making crap now compared to this. Brand new American cars breaking down in a month. Trust me friend. .. I hear soo many horror stories. Hell, I'm buying one soon lol
Im the same way. I buy GM for trucks and SUV's and have had great luck and japanese for sedans.
Then there is still hope for you.
@Dion St. Michael This is true. I have an 07 Corolla which is the most reliable car I've ever owned. I do regular maintenance, changed the belts once, put in a new battery recently and it runs like new still. I get told frequently that the aircon is the coldest they have felt.
many toyotas are made in the us now.
A VW 1.8T would have never been happy with that kind of treatment...would have failed within the first year due to turbo issues or VVT problems.
Very lucky my cousin blew her transmission 4 times on her 05 corolla but my 04 is still running strong with 159,000 miles

Crazy for a non hybrid and better than the Corolla, which is smaller and less powerful.
we're a toyota family
Vulgora Opps ! Thanks. I'll change it. Appreciate it. :)
damn 52 mpg. how fast were you going? like 55mph? lol
magicrobharv my carols only had 2 non working airbags 😕 the seats were changed but the sensors were never swapped out that’s why they don’t work
I really hope @Toyota gives you a brand new Toyota Corolla. You deserve it.
Keep it up Scotty.
tbh he deserve a better car. i would say they should give him a 2018 v6 camry
My 97 Tercel.
I hate how you cannot recirculate the heat without the AC having to be engaged in modern cars, glad I can actually bypass the AC on my 96 model for maximum heat
2010 with 160k miles. Never had any issues. Great car!
We have 2001 and 2004 Corolla, they're bullet proof.
900,000 km on 01model and 700,000 km with 04 model.
Oh my god
Happy to say my wife and I own a 2008 toyota matrix (hatchback corolla). Practicality + Reliability!
We have an 07 Matrix and that thing is solid. I've high schooler #2 driving it right now. #3 will have after she graduates. Love the Matrix
Ray Tango it's a great car, I'll have to do a video review on it someday
@@KirkKreifels i just bought a 2019 corolla hatchback and I've never been more excited
Ray Tango how do you compare that with Prius? Does Camry have a hatchback?
I agree I just bought one and holy moly the AC on level 1 cools the car in 35 secs. I freaking timed it.
BrazilianTVHD bad pcv
I’m a boy who loves corollas. I remember I sucked my boyfriend off in my user Corolla
I have a 98 with almost 270k miles. Still runs great and low maintenance, just severely sun damaged from years of Arizona heat.
My last car was a 1996 Camry and loved it so reliable and easy to work on myself. My current car is a 05 Corolla and I love it. 💪👌
For me all Toyota cars are the best
Ayham Alhindi my dad loves Toyota’s
Agree. I still have my 1998 Toyota Corolla. I've had it for 13 years with 190,000 miles and it still runs like a champ! They're easy to work on too if it needs maintainence.
Even the Prius?
@@gingerelvira6587 you prefer american jokes
E-Series Prius is now the most reliable car on record, some of them had done 600k+ already and still going..
bought a brand new Corolla in 2006 and had it serviced once at 30,000 k's and then never got it serviced after that (yeah I know that's bad). I just did the oil change myself once every year or two. it's 2018 and I've clocked up 300 000k's ( its 45 kilometres one way from home to work) and its still running like a dream. has never ever broken down or had any problem whatsoever. the only problem you'll get is the tires with punctures etc or maybe even a flat battery from leaving a light on by accident and thats it.
izzy natu
Same story here exactly. 195k miles. Never been repaired.
I’d legit pay to hear Scotty do some history podcasts.
Justin S nah . he would diss your beloved Third Rieche
Just picked up a 97 corolla base model based on research and your recommendation. 174,050 miles. Manual everything, no cruise, no AC, no intermittent wipers. So far I love her!
The high end DX model is nice as well.
I have the same car. Great taste
I own two of them 2007 Toyota Corolla, they are really good gas saver !!!
Bought one in 2011 new. Now at 205k and drives like 30k just change the Filers and Fluids, maybe a CV joint and brakes. So simple to do all you need is 10,12 and 14 mm sockets. Oh and the oil filter tool....Way better than my work on weekly Buick.
You are one positive SOB Scotty...
the best on youtube so far... please keep going.
Mansoor Haris Hassan lmao you sure
I drive a 2018 Toyota Corolla, and I absolutely love it! I'm going to drive it until it stops running, and then I'll get another one!
Michael Williams if it stops running it would probably be an easy cheap fix if u do it diy after watching multiple how to videos
So you will be buying the brand new 2065 Toyota Corolla :)
Wow! Same car buddy! Really love it too! Corolla altis 2018
I think the chances are quite high that the next car I get will be a 2040 Prius...after my 2014 Prius C finally dies...then I'll fix the old Prius and give it to my grandson as his first car :P
That grandson will go "meh, I don't want that old Prius" and drive away with the new one.
driving a 2003 Corolla with original engine and standard transmission; got 151,000 and drives strong and smooth like a charm. Never had any issues whatsoever.
These cars are built like tanks heck, run one over with a tank and ill bet it’ll still start!
Bob Riemersma what a testimony! Awesome
They actually did that on a tv show , compare ram , Toyota , Chevy truck ...to see the most strong truck and the one can pull better , And they ended didge the Toyota truck from a hill as a joke .....and when they try 2 start it it crank that was so haillrious
fake reality yeah , Top gear 😂😂😂
Abdul Rashid this can be read in Scotty's voice, lol.
Have you seen Top Gear UK where they try to kill a Toyota Hi-Lux pickup? They couldn't.
My 2015 Corolla with 90K miles (originally sold in April, 2015) runs literally like it's new! As Scotty says, barely broken in. Looking forward to 300 to 400K+ trouble-free miles in the next few years!
Having a 2013 Corolla without any Engine or Gear or major maintenance because
1- Always changing it's engine oil, oil filter and air filter in time or accordingly.
2- Changed Automatic Transmission oil 4 times and Automatic Transmission filter twice in 8 years.
3- Replaced it's brake pads 3 times and front brake discs respectively.
4- Replaced it's all tyre 2 times only beside wheel Alignment and all wheels balancing at time of tyre changing and once in every years
5- Driven 170843 Kms.
6- Replaced 3 Car Batteries in 8 years (I prefer and recommend only Acid Battery instead of Maintenance free one)
Believe me or not, Corolla is indeed a masterpiece of reliability and family transportation.
02 Corolla owner checking in. Has 188K miles. Burns oil, but never broke down or failed to start. Closest it ever came to not starting was when the fuel injectors were clogged.
Shouldn't burn oil.
wholeNwon Yes this model burns alot of oil. I have the same car, most say its a bad pcv. Well idk but the cars are famously known for it. Just the years from 2000 to 2002. Its not bad, it will still run. But if it starts eating too much. Junkyard.
Still have my 2009 bmw 540i with 217k miles. Only had to buy the battery lol with my 2yr ownership but since its a bmw it could break at any moment.
you ain’t lying..as young as I may be these Toyota’s ain’t no joke these cars can do more than get u from A to B these Toyota’s gets u through life..if its not a Toyota I’ll just roll with the Lexus u can’t loose either way
Ssss
You are absolutely right scotty...i have been using toyota corolla for last seven years and very much satisfied from its performance.
I bought a 2010 Corolla new. It now has 220,000 miles. It is soooo damn realiable. Never breaks down. Tempted by the 2019 Corolla Hatchback. Never buy anything but a Toyota!
76nhl that's good to hear I bought a used 2009 corolla that had 134000 miles as my first car, I plan to use it well past 200,000 miles and I do like the new corolla hatchbacks or the Scion im's
acemace I plan to do the same thing, how has it kept up though?
76nhl, is that the Corolla IM version? I bought one last year and it's so great I can throw my bike in the back with out having to take off the front wheel. I do the park and ride into work for exercise and get paid $3 a day to do so.
Hondas have a better built quality. I see everyday Toyotas with sagging headliners. I haven't seen an Honda with this problem yet.
I have a 2007 Accord and the build quality is very good. Granted it makes some weird noises going down the road but it drives so good you just ignore it (Can't hear it unless driving slow with windows down). Good car.
Just bought a 2008 today. I love how simple and accessible everything is in the engine bay. For being so small there is so much room inside as well.
A car is useless if it's broken down. All Hail to the Corollas!
1990s Camry, there is no substitute.
MerkinMuffly 19 tlx
I’ve just got a one owner 1997 Toyota Camry V6 with only 98.000 kilometers (60,000 miles) and I love that thing
Paul Paradiso when they’re old have little kilometres on them and they’re in excellent condition That’s how you know you got a good deal and you know it’s gonna last
Silas McGee Yes, mine is in pristine condition
I had a SR5 too. Was the best car ever.
floodland99 drop a turbo on it!
What does the sr5 means?
Love the corolla. My fav corolla is the RWD AE86 and 2005 XRS 6 speed Yamaha motor corolla.
The corolla wasn't always about being just reliable it comes from a line of fun to drive cars. The corolla has had so many configurations in its time. RWD to FWD, hatch back, wagon you name it corolla had been it's like a jack of all trades.
Toyota4Life
AE86😎
Toyota4Life I knew I'd find you here.😂😂😂😂
Ryan Littleton I love my fans 🤙
Toyota4Life I wouldn't say I'm a fan. I'm more of a Honda guy, but Toyota makes damn good cars. I won't ever deny that.
Then again..... Toyota and Honda have always been making the best cars since the beginning.... who wouldn't agree?
I've been driving Corollas since 1984. My current Corolla is a 2013 and I'm very happy with it.
Cheap Fucker
They cost next to nothing, should've changed them anyway.
Waste of time
Why all the hate? If he's not misfiring why does he need to change them?
Man, some people commenting here just have a small penis...
I buy used corolla 2009 manual 1.6 , Since I was in high school and its with me until now, I finished college and the car has no problems. I only change oil, filters and tires. It really served me well. I advise young people who need a car for college, This car will serve you for a long time 👍 .
My grandfather gave my family an 04 Corolla with 50,000 miles 😏
Curious Airlines So he basically gave your family a brand new Corolla
You can turn that 50k into 300k fucking easy
My '06 with 195k has never been repaired unless you count consumables like brakes. It's still on battery #2.
Totally agree very well made cars
Same! I've got a '16 Camry myself, and I see the thing lasting me for quite a while.
Toyota cars are fantastic and very reliable
i have 1996 Land Cruiser that have been driven 550k Kilometers
original Trans / Engine
and the car have went to many vallies / mountains and offroading everywhere
My son is mym1993 celica with body kit and a big wing on the back .that what he wanted st 7afe engine rebuilt brand. New.
Ur here too? lol
You will rarely see a dead corolla or Toyota on the side of the roads.
I seen honda / toyota broken on side of road before, also seen many honda / toyota in the junk yard.
Proud owner of a 1995 Toyota Corolla XL with a carbureted 2E engine. 240,000 kms and counting. Thank you very much.
I freakin LOVED my 93 Prizm aka Corolla. Got like 45mpg on trip, Id drive from LA to San Francisco for like $20
I still got my 05 corolla with 200K miles on it. Hardly needed any work besides oil changes. Added a bluetooth stereo and sounds pretty damn good
I have 2007 with 400000 k.. I did install gps, cameras, leds
The most popular car in Afghanistan!
Literally 80% of cars there are Toyota' especially Corollas!
So true
Afghan Lion can they drive through sand?
same in bangladesh
Or old Toyota pick up trucks
thailand too
Got a used 2004 Toyota Corolla LE last summer as my first car. I have never felt happier with a purchase in my life.
I bet you can fit like 3 skanks in your car huh 🤣
You may be able to get a free belt from the dealer. I've seen a few people get free seatbelt repairs/replacement
thanks for reminding me, you are right, Toyota has a lifetime warranty on seatbelts.
I never heard that! who said they have a lifetime warranty on seatbelts?
Did you try turning it off and on?
Best car and best brand ever, no doubt. But who wants to drive a car that is 10 years old?? No blind spot detection, no traction control, no stability, no fwd collision warning, no GPS, no heated seats....life is not a competition of who can live in the cheapest manner.
I agree 💯percent, Toyota/Lexus is quality for every dollar.
SmurfinG35 is300/200?
My is300 was reliable my engine had 200k miles and still had power like if it was brand new only thing that sucked was that automatic transmission
SmurfinG35 I agree, I’ve said it a million times, if only Lexus would step up their exterior design, they would definitely put the Germans out of business, because Lexus has a nice interior.
Ramon Velazquez yup Lexus will go high mileage on the odometer, and won’t rack up any maintenance repairs, a Mercedes or bmw will bankrupt its owner.
Mcgyver B hell yea
