I have a 1994 Honda Civic EX coupe as a daily/beater. Manual, VTEC, $250, 280,000 miles, largely stock. I also have a 2013 Honda Accord LX sedan (6 speed) as a work vehicle/commuter. Also staying mostly stock. I'm keeping major mods for projects. No car of mine will ever stay 100% stock, but I constrain it to minor things on my dailys. @@ape_man504 I still have my Corolla and it's only grown on me more. I put a strut tower bar on it to stiffen the front end and it handles much better now, along with some of the steering slop of the electric steering now being gone. It goes well with the 24 mm rear sway bar I put on the rear, too.
I put a new stereo in it that woke up the factory speakers and I'm investing in getting it repainted eventually (something I would have never done before).
So far she's more of a keeper than she ever was.
I didn't realize all of this until I recently got a Mustang to drive and have fun with. I had forgotten all the issue you can have with a car until I got it. Granted, it's older than the Corolla with more miles on it, and I don't know if it might have been abused or not.
Still, the issues are a good reminder of why it's important to have a good dependable car you're satisfied with.

I just bought a 2008 manual S and I freaking love the thing. It's actually rather quick for an econobox, nice shifter, tight steering, great fuel economy even at 300,000 miles, and takes light cosmetic mods very nicely.
I just picked up a 07 S , 169k miles, new clutch. looks like hell though , paint is gone. Hows yours holding up and what miles are on it now?
Years ago, your first Corolla review warmed my heart, and this one warmed my soul.
I know from experience that you're absolutely spot-on with this analysis. When I got my license over a decade ago, my parents said they'd buy me a car; and my first, last, and only choice was the Corolla. Six months later, when that 1999 Corolla VE got outshone by a local dealership's newspaper ad, I upgraded...to a 2001 Corolla LE. (I just wanted power windows.) Since then, I've added 120,000 miles to Corolla 2's original 25k and driven up and down the East coast (Florida to Maine) maybe four times now. And when I finally run her into the dirt, my next car is either gonna be another Corolla, or a Mazda Miata.
(The Miata would be your fault.)
Meanwhile, my little brother managed to literally explode two Celica GT-S's (one engine and one transmission) before seeing the light and getting an old Camry.
Indeed, first cars should save you money. A $7500 used car, paid in full, driven for 14 years, mere peanuts for registration, and dirt cheap maintenance? Yes, please. In fact, I'll have another.
I work for Copart and I see ALL the cars that leave daily. All off them. I can go weeks with out seeing a S let a lone a manual. I kid you not I find more Turbo TC's than I do manual Corollas.
I only really ever see corolla S(es) from this generation, but rarely come across a manual
@@bandombeviews6035 I friend of mine bought the last gen Corolla S with the 6-peed(but one of the 1st ones to come out). I kid you not, the first thing he did was straight pipe it. A straight pipe from the exhaust manifold connection to the back, no cat, no muffler, no resonator, nothing. It sounded *horrible* one of the worst exhaust notes I've ever heard worse than the riciest cars I've ever heard. He wanted to get an intake an all kinds of crap for it.
He financed it for like $33,000. The best thing he did with that car was total it, lol.

Do you want to go on a test drive?" Gave it a drive, was perfectly good car, had a decent set of features and the price was great. But there was something missing from it - a soul. Ended up getting a 2013 Mazda 3 instead and never regretted it.
A soul is in the eye of the beholder too i guess lol
This Corolla makes me appreciate just how good the current Corolla, specifically the XSE hatch, is.
I own this exact manual model and it's a great car. The reviewer said it all perfectly about not robbing you of money. Yup, back when in 2015 I was like that but it was for a Lexus SC300. Now I'm just staring at that new Toyota Avalon and wanting one of those as my first car, despite me knowing I probably wont be able to get one.
Just got a 2009 Toyota Corolla S as my first car. I've had it for less than two weeks, but it has done everything I have asked of it, and then some, and was a great price and thanks to gas mileage and that good old Toyota reliability, will never truly break the bank. If you are looking for a car to do what a car does, get a Corolla.
The S is a good choice. Proper maintenance and don't beat on it and it will last a long time. My father had his Corolla 20 yrs. Now he has a Camry.

I just got a Toyota Corolla LE of the same year about two months ago and so far it's my favorite car I've ever had. It's smooth to drive, more fuel efficient, and comfortable to drive 10/10 would recommend
This car with an automatic transbobulator is the single soggiest driving experience known to man.
Taylor Rhodes nah that’s what the base Camry’s with the dent in the corners of the bumper driven by old ladies to church on Sundays are
@@original__gmebvy I own a 2004 Camry with a 2.4 and a 2004 Celica GT, both automatics. The Camry is legit smooth but handles like garbage. The Celica is rough and slow but handles great for a fwd.
It's not good. But defiantly not the worst. The good thing about these cars is that you will be slugging around with the automatic transbobulator longer than any other car you have or will ever owned. Ultra boring with ultra reliability.
I had one of these as a rental car for two weeks, and this statement is very true.
It's not that bad if you keep it in second or third gear around town. Makes the throttle response somewhat lively. I'm not saying it's *fast* mind you but its quick enough for spirited driving if you don't mind staying in the 3500-4K range where the VVT-i starts to kick in. What baffles me is highway/interstate driving because somehow this thing manages to get 35-36 mpg even though it sits at like 3200 at 80 mph. And mine is 8 years old! It used to get 40. IDK how they pulled that off. Having said that, I'm trading it in for an Elantra Sport as soon as I can.
So I just bought a MB C300, coming off a 2009 Corolla S stick. As nice as the Benz is, i just cant stop thinking about my Corolla. I had the thing for 8 years, and it was a care free 8 years. The Corolla is the best care free car I have ever owned. As long as you change the oil and filter, air filter, PCV valve the car seem like it will run forever. i bought it with 50k miles and I stopped driving it at 190K miles with zero issues. The anxiety in my life now with this Benz sucks. My oil change is going to be around $500. My brake job around $1500. I feel like selling the Benz and live out the rest of my days just riding in my corolla

So I thought I'd chime in, first time comment, long-time watcher, love the content. I actually ended up sinking on a 2019 Toyota 86 GT for my first car (realizing that it probably wasn't the most cost-effective choice, but considering that after learning on a 2005 Sienna and a 2018 Ford Edge, anything was better, and my job made it quite a bit easier to get my hands on it, so I dunked), though I had been considering an older Corolla for a while now. Biggest mistakes I made were getting it in an auto, and not waiting a few more months for the 2020 model so I didn't have to make the obligatory "let's swap out the head unit with something better" decision. After 7,500 miles in the thing (drove it off the lot with 12 miles on it), I'm inclined to believe that the decision wasn't that bad after all, it makes the commute (20 miles one way) and the traffic less of a pain in the ass, and it handles really well with all the TRD bells and whistles. Will I try and convert it to stick at some point or trade it in for one? Maybe. For now, it works as a daily, it's sporty, and it makes me happy. That's all anybody can really ask for, right?
I love the English crash courses. Never thinking I was a smart guy, the quick tidbits are nice because I know I'm gonna learn something and you always use the car to help make the connection. I had 7 cars, not including my parents' cars back in the day, from 5.0L mustang to Grand Prix to WV to turbo this and that, but when I rented a Corolla S (2018), that car was just very driveable. Can't find a better word for it.
Especially looking at the fuel gauge barely moving while driving for hours.
It's a sense of being content.
I'm not running, I'm not racing, I'm not shaking and not hearing any drone from the exhaust, nothing is vibrating and my check engine light isn't coming on.
It's just a very driveable car. It's for drivers with the least amount of fuzz between point A to B. Still fun though, don't let the 130hp scare you away. It's enough.
"More redundant displays than Roberts Space Industries. " 😂 love the star citizen dig
I was hoping someone else caught that. What a massively impressive piece of a game. Even if it may never actually be completed lmao
I work at a Toyota dealer and these come in often. The type of car that no matter how bad shape it’s in, it still drives ok. They hardly break and only come on for routine maintenance or really minor issues.
My neighbor has one it actally still looks fairly modern
If the shifter is underwhelming, look at Monkey Wrench Racing. Not an ad whatsoever, but you can buy anything like an entirely new shifter, new solid bushings for both the cables and the base, and short shifters. I own a 2009 Pontiac vibe, and the new shifter assembly made it feel like a brand new car. The solid bushings are also very good, but have no mercy for bad shifts, so buy those at your own discretion. Also, any weighted shift knob that weighs approximately a pound or so really gives some heft to the shifts
I bought a 2010 standard Corolla S based on your advice! Got a great deal on it too! It’s in great condition too gotta be on guard because nothing would make me sadder than to see it developing rust problems.
Toyota Corolla is, in my opinion, the official car of enjoying turning down your residential street. The car of being a happy car owner. A marriage where she’s happy to see you even when you’re both overworked. It’s a car that will last if you choose to last with it.
"your first car is for making you money not robbing you of it" I wish I couldve got that though my head before buying my dodge challenger

Ivy watched this video a couple times. I owned a 2013 Corolla S from the week I got my license at 16 to the day it was totaled by a truck last year at 22. It was bone stock, auto, nothing fun, nothing fancy. But it was reliable. Never once had an issue with it. I never LOVED the car. It was just "an car" but sometimes I miss it. I had done a lot of growing and had some important experiences in those years. The person driving the car off the lot was not the same person stepping out after getting rear ended almost 7 years later. This gen. Corolla will always be special to me...even if they're special to nobody else.

Hey this actually looks pretty cool. It's definitely a change of pace. I'm so used to seeing these as boring daily drivers. I'm always helping out non knowing customers with these things.
Damn, that owners' manual illustration warning you not to slam your head on the trunk lid, was the best laugh I've had in a long time....
Perfect. Now do an Opel Manta next to achieve peak literary prowess.
I own a Corolla 2013 and this is about as accurate of a review I've seen yet. Mine is an automatic but only thing I've had to replace was the valve cover seal and at 100000 miles with frequent oil changes that thing looked clean with no sludge and will give me another 200000 miles no problem. But if you want fast go else where if you want reliable this car is for you as long as you know to change the oil AND FILTER regularly and ATF also.

I'm glad my first car was a 4th gen Maxima. It was sportier than most cars and faster than most but reliable enough to get me through highschool, my first job, second job, college, and first career move. Now it's doing the same for my sister. Only mods on it are to limit body roll.

zep head like mr regular said in his review it is a great car for someone who wants a driver car but could only afford one car. It is true. They are cheap the only downside is since it is a classic car you might need to do maintainence and replace parts sometimes.
After years of driving Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Ford, Chevy, Oldsmobile, Mitsubishi, Renault, Mercedes and Geo, it brings a tear to my eye that Toyota and Honda are the only companies making reliable comfortable cars, which is why they sell so many, and the other companies don't get it.
The new ones are much different. They used 'effort' in making them semi enjoyable to drive
As a 2013 Toyota Corolla owner myself I have a few RCR lines:

Mine has 292,000 miles and has had knock sensor, rebuilt caliper, and alternator. That is it and is identical to this one minus TRD badges. I love it
I love this car. I think the mods were very tastefully done.
Perfect first car tbh, not too powerfull and fwd. Super reliable and keeps its value well, super jealous.
Didn't even know that Corolla window sticker exists.
I feel like the sole reason they exist is because of the Corolla rally cars from the late 90s
I own a vinyl cutter I can make anything exist for a price ;)
ebay exists
I drive a 2009 Corolla and while I know it's nothing special, I still find ways to have fun with it. Sometimes I take it to a local backroad after work just to unwind and have some fun. It's small, light, and responds well for what it was meant to do. I would like to get a sports car in the future but for now, I'm having plenty fun in my Corolla.
My favorite generation of the corolla.
I have this car without the TRD stuff & AT. Seven years of no problems. It's boring but all you really need is comfortable seat, a radio, backup cam, navigation & bluetooth. I have 80K miles now. Very satisfied with the purchase.
The perfect car for having realistic dreams
bought a Corolla today. Sold a Fiesta ST last year. nuff said
A stick shift in a Buick dealership is something you don’t hear everyday.
Lol some old retired person be like "alright it was a fun few years but damn these Buick Encore so easy to get in and out of"
Ben Lucier Buick used to offer the Regal and the Verano with a stick shift a few years ago. I’m guessing that most Buick dealers rarely if ever had them on their lots though.
Yeah I own one of those regals the first 6 months of the 2012 regal gs where all 6 speeds
Your comment couldn't be more true. I've just recently seen for the first time, a 5 speed manual Buick Regal. 🤔..✌💨🏃
this video has given me a much better outlook on the fact that my first car (and current daily driver) was a base model Subie Impreza 2.5i. Its not fast, its not particularly special, but it cranks up when i turn the key and it gets me from a to b. I was thinking about trying to mod the engine to make it go faster but RCR is right when they say "your first car is supposed to make you money, not rob you of it." Thanks RCR! From both me and my Subaru
LOL at the RSI comment, so true
You can count another person on that list of people who listened to your advice. I had to sell my 2014 Corolla LE for financial reasons last year (blessing in disguise because CVT's are the weakest link in those). I loved that car though, and I'm gonna buy an older model pretty soon with a stick so I can love that bulletproof sewing machine engine even more lol.
There’s nothing to comment about this car.
It's as interesting as watching the paint dry
Corollas are the plain oatmeal of automobiles
