    Well done. I never knew so many people thought temp was the cause of the Z-man meltdown. I guess I gave too many too much credit. But like I said to B-lat. You can store Z-man in one specific storage box and never have any issue. I have had them in a brand new Plano and noticed warping of the lid and a wave start in the deviders. However Bass Mafia storage boxes do not react with Elaztech or stretchX. Thats what I personally have used for years now.

      I have seen the stuff destroy some hard plastics and clear coats on things like rooster tails too. The heat does have a effect, it accelerates the reaction. General rule of thumb is keep Zman stuff isolated from just about everything.

      Look up Flambeau K Series boxes that are made from styrene butadiene copolymer, which doesn't react to Elaztech.

    I bank fish and pack pretty light, but I guess with the Zman stuff I'll just store separately.

    What your seeing is something that's called plasticizer migration. The plasticizers in the plastic worm react to the plasticizers in the other worm or storage case. Causing them to get softer or melt. I did a lot of testing at work because we were selling soft pvc balls that people were storing on wood floors or wood desks that were finished with a poly coating. over time they were leaving whiteish rings or spots where the ball was sitting because the 2 plastics reacted with each other

    • @B_the_Cameraman
      @B_the_Cameraman  4 роки тому +1

      I didn't have all the detail but I could tell it was drawing it out during the reaction. Very cool.

    My solution to Z Man melting other plastics is to keep them in their bags. I put all my different Z Man shrimp together in the same bag and mix different models but I put them back in a Z Man bag.
    I remember when I was a kid that certain soft plastics would melt together. Specifically my dad's Culprit worms would melt together with other plastics but it happened to lots of my lures too until I learned to not mix them.

    I put a selection of Zman baits in a regular new, never-used Plano tray and never had a problem. After two years there's no sign of damage to either the baits or the box. In a kayak, it's just kind of handy to carry a day's worth of plastics instead of hauling all the Zman baits I own in dozens of original bags.

    • @B_the_Cameraman
      @B_the_Cameraman  2 роки тому

      I agree and you will never have a problem as long as it is a new never used box. The issue only arises when z man products encounter other soft plastics or the worm oil from other soft plastics

    Hm, okay ... Well, it's not entirely true that they don't melt at high temperatures in a car. I had a bag with several Z-man baits in their original packs in the car last summer, and yet they are warped by the heat. The Bugz were distorted and unusable, as was the finesse trd that stuck together .... Eric

    • @B_the_Cameraman
      @B_the_Cameraman  3 роки тому +1

      Their melting point is lower than traditional soft plastics. Traditional soft plastics start melting at around 250 and at 350 are liquid. Zman starts at 175 ish - 250. So it is possible that your car got that hot or close.

    • @mikepenrod8458
      @mikepenrod8458 3 роки тому +1

      Agreed. I've had the trd's melt together or warp sitting in their packaging on the deck of my boat here in AZ. I could separate some of the ones melted together but they were so deformed you couldn't use them.

    Listen, I get it. Nonetheless, who keeps their bait in the original bags? It is just plain out of congruence with the way of a fisherman on the go and needing to consolidate space and access. I am not one to carry a ton of bags around because I carry a lot of gear on my Kayak and need to be as streamlined as possible. I ordered quite. bit of Zman product in response to a few reviews and wanting to explore some new bait options. Yep, it happened to me too. I was shocked, thought at first a melt but then my inquiring mind saw something that just did not make sense. Now, I do not carry cheap gear, I have an entire set up of buzbee boxes and the Zman bait HATE buzbee from a deterioration and morphing perspective. I work in medicine, run a medical practice, so I'm keen to science, understand it well, enjoy practicing medicine etc....I am actually more intrigued and appreciative of Zman now that I realize they have put a ton of research into their product. With that said, it has nothing to do with the consumer complaining, being ill advised or uneducated, it has everything to do with their marketing, their education, and their package branding. Fisherman are fisherman, not scientists. We don't think too deep on this stuff, well at least most the fisherman I run with. Most of us are old school, even the "bright" ones. Now, I truly appreciate the feedback and the review it was extremely helpful and I gave a thumbs up and will be looking for a ZMAN approved container. But.....here it comes, its not about the consumer, my friend. Rule number one of product development and customer satisfaction, its about the customer so ZMAN, do what you must to ensure your client base are prepped, know your people, know your market....fisherman.....all walks, and most of all, a wiiiiiiide range of smarts on the scale of zero (to) smarts.
