This is a medley of Daft Punk songs, as you discovered in the outtro. They got their first Grammy for this! The video was filmed and recorded in one of their apartments Avi and Kevin's, I believe, and cost a total of about $400. The eyes are contacts. Kevin wore shades because the contacts bothered him so much. Avi's eyes are so RED, he probably should have gone with shades, too, lol. Kirstin doesn't do that with her mouth as much as she used to, it was a habit she unlearned, but it really is super cute.
Fun reaction! It's a mash-up of several songs by the French band Daft Punk. They wore helmets with visors covering their faces and did sorta techno EDM stuff. That was why PTX decided on the electric blue colour scheme for this medley. Kevin may have had a problem wearing contact lenses ( yeah, they all wore contacts for this) so he opted for sunglasses that looked like the style the original Daft Punk used. PTX won their first Grammy for the arrangement of this.
Great reaction and liked the little storey 😊 new rules and are you that somebody is a great one to react to. If you want to know more about ptx Kevin’s fifth would be great as Scott talks about how they started and how they got Kevin
Daft Punk is no longer together, but they were a French electronic music duo. You can find out more about them here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_Punk#:~:text=Daft%20Punk%20were%20a%20French,%2C%20rock%20and%20synth%2Dpop. At the time Pentatonix recorded this their publisher was Madison Gate, a minor subsidiary of Sony which specialized in publishing movie soundtracks. Not exactly the ideal publisher for a group like Pentatonix, but it was better than just posting everything to UA-cam and hoping to get some patrons, which is what they'd been doing before. Madison Gate didn't have a recording studio - they'd had no need of one for movie soundtracks - but Pentatonix had already discovered that a closet had good acoustics so they were cool with recording there. Madison Gate DID hook Pentatonix up with an excellent video recording company named FifGen. PTX had a venue lined up for this video shoot, but it fell through at the last minute, so someone at FifGen suggested that they get some black sheets and set up a sort of photo booth in Avi and Kevin's kitchen. The single ring light came out of PTX's $400 budget for this shoot, as did the makeup, presumably including the blue contact lenses. (Kevin's eyes couldn't tolerate the contacts, hence the visor. Judging by how red Avi's eyes were he must have had trouble with the contacts also.) I'm not sure, but I THINK FifGen supplied the black light. I'm not sure who edited the video, either FifGen or Ben Bram. Almost certainly the audio was edited by Ed Boyer. This won them their first Grammy, for "Best Arrangement Instrumental Or A Cappella." (As their co-arranger, Ben Bram shared the Grammy.) Before "Daft Punk Medley," that Grammy category did not exist - the Academy changed "Best Instrumental Arrangement" just so they could nominate Pentatonix! The songs in this mashup are: • “Technologic” • “One More Time” • “Get Lucky” • “Digital Love” • “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” • “Television Rules the Nation” • “Around the World” You can find the complete lyrics here: genius.com/Pentatonix-daft-punk-lyrics I recommend watching their private performance of this. Recorded on a fan's cell phone, just the five of them, off-mic., in a quiet room. The balance isn't good - Kevin's beatboxing really does need amplification - but you'll be surprised by how close it is to the professionally edited version. ua-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/v-deo.html
Thanks for the reaction. Glad to see u smile and happy after watching. Do react to 90s Dance Medley for another happy video. Or react to their original Love Again for more EDM
Song-montages will blend together tracks, this is a medley which is a shortened performance of a group of songs, and then remixes can do any fucking thing. and then "mash-up" putting two or more songs together, using the lyrics from one and the music from the other. there's just loads of stuff on youtube and quite a lot of rap/anime opening mashups are surprisingly good.
7:19 - Kanye didn’t sample Daft Punk, when you sample you give credit. He made it appear like he was going to sample them, HAD THEM IN THE MUSIC VIDEO. Then didn’t list them on the track writing list, not even the inspiration section. It was WILD.
Nice! This one is in my playlist to send to Duane on stream. So thanks to the person faster than me! ❤ And thank you Duane for this wonderful anekdote! 😆❤
Great reaction! Pentatonix IS a learning experience! Subbed for more PTX! If you want to learn about their beginnings, you can do a series on their performances in the 2011 show The Sing Off (I think there are about 12 performances). They are available on UA-cam complete with their first introduction and all the judges commentary.
I'm sure others will hit on this, but anyway. They won the Sing-Off prizes were $200K and a recording contract They had lost their recording contract because the company didn't think accepella was worth doing (they did come back a few years later and re-signed them. Anyway, being broke and just getting started, they spent their last $400, and made a deal with a brand-new post/editing company, (The company would do this one free, and PTX would use them exclusively for so long, and would list them as the Post company as much as possible Free advertising) then they went to Avi and Kevin's apartment, each one went in a closet by themselves, and recorded their vocals, then they hung blackout curtains in either the kitchen or a bedroom I've heard both from reliable sources, and recorded the visuals, and then did post on Avi's iPad, which is what they recorded everything on. Put it on YT and won a Grammy. There is some debate over exactly what it cost, and where it happened, etc... I may not be right on everything, so if you hear something better go with it, this is just what I"ve heard, as I said reliable sources, people that were either there, or personally know the members. There is a list of the song, and if you have problem believing what you hear, a live version, and even a verson recorded as part of the Make A Wish Foundation, the do the song with no mics at all. If you don’t know Daft Punk you may first want to listen to 15-20 seconds of 2 or 3 of their songs to understand what is going on. There is one more link, it is an original song that is similar, and a live no mic verson. They didn’t have the money then to do the eyes digitally. They bought them over the counter, and both Avi and Kevin had bad reactions. You can see Avi’s red eyes, and Kevin couldn’t wear them at all, hence the sunglasses.

Yes, filming an recording cost $400. Did we ever find out how much the video and music editing afterward cost? I'm sure Ed Boyer did the mixing.

My ABSOLUTE FAV of PTX all time.
Have a soft spot for AVI... his register, and specially the lower... mmmm...
LOVE IT ❣

My Favorite Mashups From Them

Finding out all of the samples and how Daft Punk uses them is a fun 30 minutes on UA-cam. Check it out.
Great reaction! You got many many more videos to get through!

Classic Pentatonix! I noticed that you haven’t done any Pink Floyd yet. Try “Time” or “Money” from the Dark Side of the Moon album to get started.
saw them live, this sounds just as good live
Thanks for your reaction.

And thank you Duane for this wonderful anekdote! 😆❤
Thank you for a great reaction! You should check out their 90's dance medley!
Recommend their live video of Kiss From A Rose.
That was good videó👍
Nah dude that half smile Kirstie has is killer lol. Daft Punk is the band. It's a mashup medley of Daft Punk. Enjoyed the reaction.

The bass, Avi Kaplan, is also using overtone singing too, which is singing more than one note at a time.
As someone who's been a fan of PTX since 2015 I'm very happy. Keep killing the game fam! 🙏

Loved your reaction! If you enjoyed this one, have you reacted to their 90's Dance Medley? I think you'll like that one too!
Mitch is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute in this.
Never get enough PTX. I'm a Pentaholic of course.😅
yeah her smirk is awesome, while I like Mitch the most, she really has something in this performance.
They didn’t have the money then to do the eyes digitally. They bought them over the counter, and both Avi and Kevin had bad reactions. You can see Avi’s red eyes, and Kevin couldn’t wear them at all, hence the sunglasses.
Oh, please check out the evolution of Michael Jackson and the evolution of music
That half smile has captivated a lot of guys. Sadly, she apparently wanted to get rid of it.
