I rarely play Queen these days too- but not because I don’t like them! I just know the albums so well, even beyond the well known hits. Sheer Heart Attack and Greatest Hits were two of the first cassettes I owned and listened to as a kid. I just played their songs and albums to death in the 1980s and 1990s when I was growing up. So much so I have moved on a bit, but I still like them. If Freddie had not passed and they carried on, I would still be buying them and listening to them more often I reckon.

All I have for Queen is: The 'ICON' Hits and The 'BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY' Biopic Soundtrack.
I'm happy with just having that, but I could pick up an album or two secondhand when I see them.

Great appraisal of their albums. I kinda dibbed in and out of them as well and was fortunate to see them in 1976 and 1977 and is a memory I will carry with me for ever. An incredibly talented band that will forever be held close in my heart

That run from Queen II through News of the World, those five albums, are at the top of the list of the greatest five album run in music history. Not just incredibly catchy music, but music that no other band, including The Beatles, could match in terms of sheer originality and variety. Bohemian Rhapsody, March of the Black Queen, Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love, and even the deeper cuts; Death on Two Legs, Prophet's Song, are just so unlike any other band.

I do like Queen, but at the moment have none of their albums. I used to have their first album on vinyl as well as News of the World. I think it might be that they did get overplayed reasons I don’t have their albums but do respect them and don’t blame them for songs being overplayed.

Ah, my beloved Queen! I adore them enough to make up for all you folks who are meh, tepid, they're okay, over-rated, and hate them with a passion folks. I love their brains and what they created from those minds of theirs. _Queen II_ and _Made in Heaven_ are my favorite albums. I could do without _Hot Space_ and wish "Under Pressure" was on another album. If I never hear "Delilah" again, it would be too soon. But, play me some "March of the Black Queen," "Innuendo," and "Track 13" any time and I will sit with eyes closed, and be transported to places that remove me from the often painful world outside.

i remember watching some of your old videos where you ranked and reviewed these albums . At the time you ranked them very high and said you liked them. you have probably forgotten how amazing their albums are since its been a while.
when i haven't listened to queen for a while, i think in my mind ' what does queen sound like again? some weird glam shit i guess'.
but then when i play one of their albums, then im like ' wowwwww, nevermind this is actually really fucking good'
i might be because their albums are pretty musically complex, especially the 70s. so they don't really have many tunes that get stuck in the head. unlike led zeppelin with their catchy guitar riffs, so its easy to forget how great queen are after a while of not listening to them
i love how versatile the band was and they sound so unique. i love all the queen albums. even hotspace

Ya me too,Larry. I have made a streaming playlist of 60 Queen songs that I occasionally throw on shuffle, but the only album I can really say I love every song on is The Game, and that’s probably because it’s the first Queen album I ever bought back in the summer of 1980 at Sam the Record Man on Yonge St. Also, Freddie’s voice can be too much on occasion, even though live he is a very entertaining frontman…..clearly one of the greatest. Cheers

Thought I'd watch this again, because I forgot which albums are rated the highest here. I might buy a couple Queenie albums (on CD) that I never had before. I had Sheer Heart Attack & A Night at the Opera (+ The Game) LP's before. Maybe I'll get the onewith "Under Pressure" on it, but will watch the video again (at fast speed) to see what CD's I might get. Watched: Maybe I'll get Queen (1) and Innuendo. Not sure about Hot Space. Maybe "Under Pressure" is the only song on it I'd really like.

Queen was my favorite band growing up, all their albums were great through Jazz. The Game was the start of the decline even though it was a pretty good album. Hot Space was a real disappointment but it grew on me. After that their albums were just OK. The Works, Kind of Magic, The Miracle, got little play. I would say Rush is a great band that I don't listen to much. I liked 2112, and permanent Waves and of course Moving Pictures but I rarely listen to those albums anymore if at all. Funny enough as the years went on Subdivisions became my favorite song.

I have thousands of albums (lps and cds) and this video describes most of my collection. I find a band I really like and immerse myself in them for a period, buy their discography, and then put them on a shelf. With Queen, I got a bit tired of them after the movie came out. With all it's anachronistic moments, Bohemian Rhapsody elevated Queen to mythic status. That has caused me to shut them down for a while. I'll get back to them someday.
P.S. I saw Queen in July of 1980 at The Forum in Los Angeles for my birthday. Their performance was so much better than their Live Aid set. I thought U2 was the best that day. I don't listen much to them anymore either.

Still enjoy their first 3 albums. Like most I jumped on the Opera bandwagon but that hasn’t stood the test of time imo. From then on they became a singles band with the odd killer track thrown in; Dead on Time from Jazz is one. So, to sum up, I still very occasionally play the first 3 albums, but have made a playlist of my favourites from the rest of their discography. I suppose as I’ve got older my music tastes have changed. Much prefer to listen to other stuff nowadays. A similar band - ELO; have a few of tbeirs, can’t fault the music, but rarely gets a spin

I don’t think their albums are as good as a complete piece of work, maybe except for Sheer Heart Attack. I’d rather listen to a playlist of my favorite songs from them. Also, as someone else said, they have at least ten or even fifteen songs that are SO overplayed that I simply never feel like listening to. Another band that I love but don’t play that often is The Who, don’t really know why. I’m much more eager to play The Beach Boys, Kinks, or even Sly & The Family Stone as far as great 60s bands.

In their 1970's incarnation they were too theatrical for me. "Killer Queen" was too camp for my tastes. And later, they released too many sports-event-style anthems. By the 80's they were gimmicky. Their current popularity with younger people is largely due to the very successful Biopic. Back then I was into The Beatles, Bowie, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Doors and so on. After that, I got into Prog bands like Genesis and Yes. Queen were not a band I even considered. Cheers.

I’m hot and cold with Queen. For me, they are a bit overrated which is a term I don’t like but…..? I like most of their 70s albums. I loved the song Innuendo and bought the single but when I got the album I was disappointed - except for the title track, I didn’t see any videos for the other songs until after Freddie’s passing but I don’t think seeing them would have changed my opinion. The one album that people’s opinions on surprise me is The Works - before the Internet I would have assumed it was possibly their most popular album, along with A Night at the Opera, but since the advent of the internet I don’t see much love for it.

  • @pierreduchesne0001

I'm not a big fan of Queen, in the sense that I don't have any albums by them. In the 80s, I liked “Radio Gaga” because I was a teenager back then and the song played to death on the radio. I really liked your video, and you summed up Queen by saying that it's a group whose singles are perhaps more appreciated than their albums. It seems that as a group, there was a lack of coherence in the production of the albums (this is just my opinion). But the singles they produced defined a generation, defined an era, defined a sound etc. "Another One Bites the Dust", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "We Are The Champions", etc. They had more megahits (and megahit does not seem a strong enough word) than many established groups. But I never listened to one of their album from start to finish. In my personal situation, same with Ziggy Stardust/David Bowie; I'm in my 50s, for me the first tune I heard from David Bowie was "Let's Dance" that I liked a lot.
