Some great 🇺🇸 acts here with Sonic Youth , Nirvana , R.E.M & Jeff Buckley. It was Sonic Youth who convinced Nirvana to sign to Geffen & Jeff chose Columbia to be on the same label as his heroes Leonard Cohen & Bob Dylan. Man , could Jeff sing !

I really loved Rod Stewart’s early albums as well. They were brilliant. I can’t do Yoko I’m sorry and glad she doesn’t have any albums in this list. All the best. Dave✅✅

Really loving this series of your take on lists! It’s good to see I’m not the only one really blown away by some of Rolling Stone magazines strange opinions. Meet/With the Beatles somehow being above Help and A hard days night is very odd to me. It almost feels as if the list is in no particular order.

Court & Spark! One of the greatest albums of all time!!! 😎

37 of these i have this time.
A greatest hits or compilation by Hank Williams I can see because of how music was single based back then or a lot of albums from so many old time artists are just impossible to find. However, something like the Madonna Immaculate Collection (which I have) being on this list is unforgivable.

Hi Larry I agree with you on the greatest hits albums but some artists didn't release albums when they produced the songs. like Hank Williams mostly made 78s that particular compilation had 40 all original iconic songs that were not messed with. that album has been around a long time I would exempt it from the no greatest hits albums rule it is a gem. And maybe Saturday night fever that album sold a lot I believe those were made for the movie and soundtrack that is where everyone knows those songs from.

A decent list in my opinion. I'm looking forward to seeing the top 100! 👍xx.

When you mention The Beatles being too low on RS's list, you have to remember that their music is "old", the US Meet The Beatles was over 55 years old when this list was compiled., and a lot of music was created since then. I agree that there should be no greatest hits or multi-artist compilations, but I think Saturday Night Fever is one of the very few exceptions.

It's not only the music that is old, the (remaining) Beatles, haven't done anything that is of relevance for a younger audience in more than half a century, they are simply loosing relevance. The generation that still saw the Beatles while they existed is the one that is dying next. I'm born in the 70s, for a lot of people I'm old, but even for me the Beatles were not relevant when I was a kid.
It's the same when people complain about thevlist not having enough Jazz and Blues. For a lot of people today they are just not relevant. Great music is great music, but great music that nobody is listening to is in the end just music that nobody listens to.

Thanks for the series of videos.
I'm surprised that I have 47 of the 500. Thought it would be under 20, considering RS gives very short shrift to metal, heavy rock, prog rock and jazz genres.

As a millennial I have to strongly recommend the Portishead and Pavement albums on this section of the list, Larry :) And, of course, The Strokes.
    Hope you're well.

Slowly getting better for overall picks. I'm gonna be the one to stick up for the compilation albums though. Even though they may not be the proper studio albums, they still serve as a great statement of an artist's work. I heard that you had loved The Stones' Through the Past Darkly, and that may very well deserve mention on a list like this right next to Sticky Fingers of Beggars Banquet. Personally for me, some of the greatest hits albums by Elton John and Queen would be good to have as some of the greatest albums of all time.

Tim Buckley is an artist who has made a lot of different music. His early stuff could be called baroque rock, the later a kind of swamp funk but by far the intriguing is starsailor. It is as challenging as trout mask, stay with it….

Always love hearing my name! 😂👍But at 4:18, that was not me. I did not request that. Never heard of them.
From this list of a hundred, I only have 3 of the albums (Unfortunately, so many others in this list I still need to get).
    And they are:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic'
    Nirvana - 'Nevermind'
    Pearl Jam - Ten
And that is it! Interested to see how many I'll have from the top 100.

I think "folklore" deserves to be high on the list. I'd say it's one of Taylor's Swift's best albums. And a good one for the older crowd to pick as their "Swiftie" gateway. Different from Taylor's more pop leaning albums. More in the alternative vein. If you don't like this, you likely won't ever like her. One of my favorite albums this decade, so far. Her next album, "evermore" is a little more "poppy", but serves as a companion to "folklore".

"Blood Sugar Sex Magic" should be higher .... I put it in the top 10 albums of the 90's .... for Pearl Jam, I agree, i find that "VS" is their best album .... "joshua Tree" should be higher, so is "Sticky Fingers"

A few that should be higher: Bridge Over Troubled Water, Physical Graffiti and of course The Beatles. We all know what number one should be, so I’m preparing to have a good moan about them getting that wrong. I have not peeked.

When you say that an album is too low, you mean too high right? As you’re reading them in descending order. 😊

No, with a top albums or songs list, #1 is the highest position. So, 100 is lower than 1, not higher. It works the opposite way. 😁

You asked about Swift, so here goes!
She doesn’t belong on the Top 1,000 List!

Unfortunately this is rolling stone magazine list so it’s typically spiked with too much rap crap Probly even in the top 50 pandering to the rap audience that doesn’t purchase they’re product no matter what so as usual the longtime 60s&70s rock fans will be outraged burnt by this establishment once again

    THE ROLLING STONE 500 GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME is a failed exercise in trying to show how relevant they still are with dozens of rap albums (even DRAKE and I am not taling about NICK DRAKE here)) included but indeed Love's FOREVER CHANGES as low as 180 or something), only one DOORS album, Van's ASTRAL WEEKS terribly low and no VEEDON FLEECE, or MOONDANCE.....Is BLUE really Joni's best album? Or THRILLER MJ' best? A1nd where are great Australian bands like TRIFFIDS, GO BETWEENS, CHURCH....And all those great groups from the second British invasion (only JESUS and MARY CHAIN, not HOUSE of LOVE, SHACK, EAST VILLAGE, ECHO § BUNNYMEN, JAM, STRANGLERS etc..etc..)). Fortunately JOY DIVISION is there with 2 albums. Also no BEATLES from the first period MEET THE BEATLES excepted which was a revisit of WITH THE BEATLES. I bought the book but decided to sell it at 1/10 of the original price.;;;
