I like this car. I realize it's not as exciting as some of the more expensive vehicles out there, but for $15k I still think you get a lot of value in the Versa. But...if I'm being completely honest, I'm not sure I'd buy a Versa brand new. I think I'd probably buy something used with more features. What about you? New Versa or used BMW (assuming they cost the same)?
This Versa is very utilitarian: hard plastics easy to clean, lots of space for its category, good fuel economy and you won't spend money to fix it soon since it's under warranty. Sure you don't have any sort of fun or comfort compared to an older used BMW. To me, it's more a decision between reliability and value for money vs prestige and enjoyment
Bmw might be a gamble used plus a hunday might compete if u know stick
@@danieldamian1685 I see these all the time in my area, a lot of them are younger kids or college students. They get a cheap new car and still can beat it up a bit lol. This is what the car market needs more of.
TNN Media Cheap cars suck
@@disneyfan9099 And you evidence is?
This car is perfect for my 21 year old son's first car! inexpensive, has warranty, reliable, and insurance might not be that expensive. and it's NEW ! and pretty nice looking with exactly the gadgets needed. no more, no less. Economical and he can't race unless it's with a bicycle! JUST PERFECT! Thank you for the video and the review.
You're very welcome. I hope you son enjoys his new car!
I would go with a Chevy Spark
80's Nostalgia Guy WORST CAR lmao
@@thetrxppiniqqa No it's not. Mine has been running great. I get like 40 mpg.
80's Nostalgia Guy how long have you had it?
I rented a Nissan Versa 2017 last year to drive to Destin, Florida from Houston Texas. Drove over 8 hours and didn't have an inconvenience at all. I would highly recommend a car like this. I am considering to buy this model sometime in the future after my 2011 car completely dies.
When I bought my Versa brand new with the manual transmission while I was in college, I absolutely loved it. It's the best decision I have ever made. I actually still own it, and I keep it as a backup. It offers everything you'd use, and not the stuff you don't. It's cheap, reliable, roomy, and very fuel efficient. With the manual transmission, you get a peppy, fun, reliable car to drive.
Sad truth is, however, people look down on this car because they think it's cheap and basic. While it's cheap, it's nowhere close to being basic. This is a car that won't ever fail you when you need it the most. :)
Well said.
When Nissan fans buy a Versa they expect to see a Maxima inside

Love my 2010 Versa Sedan 189,000 miles and still going strong. Original engine & transmission. I haven’t had to do any major repairs. Oil changes and new tires is all I’ve had to do. Will definitely look into the 2020 Versa when it comes out. I’m a home health nurse and a college student so a Versa would be just fine for me. A lot of people put this car down .Thank you for your great review on this car
You may want to look at a 2019 Versa SV Special Edition, great value, and less expensive than the 2020 Versa, which is a nice car, but much more $$$.
Loving a channel that doesn't look down on rental cars! Keep up the good work
$1.90 per gallon 😂 ahhh the good ol days. Wait that was only a year ago… gee thanks uncle joe.
I wrote this original 2 years ago...@Jonathan-mp32x
Great review. Love the practicality of this car.
I own a 2014. I love the car. 80 to 85 mph on the highway. Yes the rpms are at 4200. It was designed to keep up on the highway. The high rpm will not hurt the engine. I've owned many of 4 cylinder cars with high rpm on the highway with no engine problems. I will get 200,000 miles out of my versa. Do not let it over heat and keep the oil changed!!!!!!!
I have the 2019 SV special edition I have press start though that’s what I wanted and I love it her name is Junie🥰
I have the 2018. Named mine Vise haha
I have the 2017 Versa SV in red and her name is Ellie
Thanks for posting this. I'm looking at a 2019 S + for my daughter who is heading off to college this fall. It looks like the perfect car for her.
Bought a 2019 S Plus today, in white. Crank windows and no power locks and a slightly different gauge cluster but DOES have back up camera, blue tooth, AC (i live in South Carolina), traction control, and an added "appearance package" that gave me a rear spoiler and color keyed mud guards. Picking it up in morning and out the door with rebates and my 500 dollar trade i paid $13,435.00. Im trading in a 2008 Versa with get this.....298,000 miles. These cars are basic but its's all about the engines Nissan has gotten so good at making. Sales guy told me 5,000 mile Oil changes due to the semi synthetic oil they use. My first oil change will be well before that since im not sure how long its been sitting on the lot. It only has 5 miles so we know it hasnt been driven at all hardly. Im hoping they change the oil before i leave the lot tomorrow afternoon!
Travis S. Why not a SV?
Thank you. Lots of great information.
I like a simple basic car and being fanatical about maintaining it. I see more and more of these on my commute. Most of the time I ride alone so I do not need allot of HP to do that. I have been watching this car and others for a couple years waiting for more info on reliability. One thing I like is the driver seat position sits higher than most other small cars.
Neal Valero That's what I love about it too. Kinda makes my feel like I'm in an SUV.
Great review
Good review & great Nissan.
My first Nissan experience as a driver is my current rental which is the Nissan Sentra. 38.3 highway mpg with the eco switch on. I was surprised to get that mileage during a 350 mile trip.
Nice car for the price!! At the end now many mpg did you get I hear it has a good gas mileage. Thank you and great video 👍👍👍👍👌👌
Over 42 mpg!
Just bought this car.. thank!
I own 2012 year nissan versa sedan with CVT transmission, i bought it used and have paid like 3k dolars for it. Cant understand why these people saying that its bad car. I own it for 2 years and its have already 130k miles on odometer. Still works as new. I always change CVT oil in time and thats why. If you dont care about ur car and dont service it like its written in owners manual, of course it doesnt work. Take care of ur car firstly! Perfect car in its price
I was given a 2000 chevy malibu that i know is not gonna last me another year or two so i was looking into new cars that werent going to break what little money i have. I saw the Nissan Versa and how inexpensive it was and i will admit i was VERY scared because of it being so cheap. Looking at this video helped me because its nice to hear that it is a decent car and for the first car to buy i think it will be manageable!
I like that they added the touchscreen this year. It makes the car a bit more livable, especially if you're sitting in stop-and-go traffic everyday. :)
Agreed!
It looks like the touch screen lost the previous CD player, which is more important to me than a touch screen.
I'd say this would be an ideal car for me if I bought it, I'm not looking for anything too expensive, not looking for extra features or more expensive models. All what matters is the car is comfortable and gets you from point A to point B.
The ultimate rental car. Not too many features to have to figure out. If you drive an older car normally, and it’s in the shop, the Versa is an easy to drive replacement. Also, if you’re flying in somewhere, and just driving around town, it works great especially in a city with small roads like SF. Would I take one to LA from my area? Probably not. But it’s a great around town option.
Well said.
I rented one of these. I recommend the Accent, which is in the same category. I drove it on the highway, 70 MPH, passing trucks was a little shaky. The Accent is dimensionally the same, but it was much more stable on the highway.
I like your channel. Renting a car, you don't know what you'll get.
Accent like all Hyundai's rides like they forgot to include suspension. Rough. And the Accent does not have near as much room inside.
I would love this car it’s practical
Well said.
This would be an awesome car to commute to work and let my yukon sit except during the weekends.
I have the base model of this car and tbh it's really good on gas
I can make the gas last at least 2-4 weeks until my next gas visit
And it only needs 30 to fill up so it's a reliable car to get to point a through b
Here in Mexico it is the top selling car, and it is actually a nice car, in my family we have one, it is pretty comfortable, not that much and that's why people love it.
THANKS BECAUSE I WANT THE 2020 VERSA NEED A NEW CAR AS OF YESTERDAY😂
The Versa is actually a compact car, according to the government classification system which goes by interior space. Nissan calls it a sub-compact because they also have the Sentra that's slightly larger but still in the compact class.
I’m hoping this will be my future car. I currently own the 2011 Nissan Versa hatchback. It’s been an amazing car for me. I can’t wait to upgrade to the sedan. :)
Decent basic car but after getting a 2019 Kona, 2019 Sonata, and 2019 Optima for my last three rentals, I was a little bit disappointed. The stiffness of the brake and a tendency for the car to drift really stood out to me.
My gripe with the Versa is the fact that in strong wind, the car is blown around like a leaf.
This is how you live below your means. If my parents were to buy me this car I would be happy.
I got a 2018 Note sv and am very happy with it. It is the perfect car if you are looking for basic transportation. What it could use, however, is a bit more power and alloy wheels on the sv trim. The steel wheels with plastic hubcaps look like crap.
I owner this car as of today . I like the car and I am very happy with my purchase. Compared to Ford Fiesta the Versa is way bigger and nice leg room.
Thanks I’m guessing I’m getting this car from enterprise for the compact class. Wonder what other cars may be options
Looks exactly like mine, but mine is 2015
Can you do a review of the 2020 Versa SV and compare it to this 2019 model?
I see so many people driving these im the inner cities
Renting it right now, only thing I don’t like is no auto lights! lol I know first world problems just ever other car I have driven had it, so had to get used to not having them again
Ha! You'll get used to it. I had the same "problem" too.
If I had to get one it would be the hatchback.
Does it have a thing where you can see that the turn signals are on from the inside?
😁😁😁😁😁I got the same car but it's a 2018 s plus model it doesn't have power windows or power locks but it has the Bluetooth and cruise control and audio control on the steering wheel.but I really want a 2001 Toyota Corolla those things are pretty reliable 😁😁😁😁
Just rented one for a week from Enterprise. Comfortable seats for all day trip, just enough 'luxury tech', huge trunk.
My only gripe was on the highway; I had to make constant corrections to keep her going straight. This was very tiring over 8 hours driving. Then, there is the wind stability problem, which aggravates the steering issue.
Prior to this one, I rented a '21 sr also from Enterprise for the same kind of trip, and it was a much better driver. The '21 is starting to suffer a little technology creep, as in a bit too much unnecessary stuff. However, on the '21, the 'infotainment system' was easier to use.
You can get leather, heated seats, Bose, sunroof and all the safety bells and whistles on a cpo Altima for almost the same price and same gas mileage.
I don't want to speak for NERailfanning, but I think he's saying you can upgrade to a higher model, with more features, by spending the same amount on a certified used car instead of a new Versa.
Alexandriyah S makes sense to some. It’s all subjective.
Can someone please reply.. so I bought this Nissan 2019 versa & my screen isn’t touch screen ( it looks like the screen in the video , but for some reason when I touch the icons it doesn’t work) , also I can’t seem to find how to turn on the back up camera on . I know it has it because people around me own this car and their car has a backup camera ....
Pretty sure Nissan bought an aftermarket screen for the versa
Mister John güick 1 nope. They’ve FINALLY stepped up their game and got a...decent head unit
Demon just saying it just looks like an aftermarket screen
@@Axel-no8of i like it better than the the one in my 17, i wonder if i could buy one and install it on mine
No. It is now required to have screen and camera in vehicles
I love my used 2014 ATSV caddie for 15k with 50k miles. If I’m going to drive 109 hp verse then the highway would suck
I got the very basic model for like 13.5k manual door locks and no electric windows but it does have ac plus am/FM radio with CD player.
Nice. That's a good price for a car that should serve you well for years to come. You know, I love all the fancy bells and whistles on my rentals, but for my own personal cars, I prefer something a bit more stripped down. Nothing wrong with a minimalistic vehicle.
My friend just surprised me with one for my birthday. I’m over all happy with this present. It’s crazy!
I have a 18 version all highway I drive 600 miles a week back and forth to work mine is a 5 speed it does go zero to 60 a little faster then the crappy CVT I got it with 4 miles it has 23,000 on it no problems at all it is slow but it’s a daily driver no big deal gets the job done
I'm considering buying a used one from Hertz. It's pretty basic I'm fine with that. I just wish it had an electronic odometer. Silly as it is that's almost a deal breaker for me.
I drove this car last week in the US, rented from hertz. Reasonably comfortable, good gas economy, managed 15,5km/l, and considering US gas prices, it's ok. The CVT sucks a bit (compared to the Sentra i drove last summer) but then again, i'm used to manual here in europe. Power wise, i find it sufficient. Considering the ridiculously low speed limits in the US, the guy besides you in the Mustang, will go the same exact speed in traffic, so who cares? What else, well, grip in corners is shit, but you have mainly straight roads in the US, so that's ok.
DerpEye Depends on where in the US. Older cities along the east coast and any hillside area can have some really narrow, curvy roads where further west are more of the grid layout. Which I miss. I’m a Phoenix girl hehe.
If only I knew about this car, I would have bought one. I have a Chevy Sonic hatch but I feel I overpaid for it. I will do more research next time.
why u overpaid for sonic? u dont like?
Spent more than I though was fair for the quality of the vehicle. It's ok, but this is much cheaper and almost the same thing.@@santoshthapa8398
The Chevy Sonic is a much better car. Faster and more fun to drive.
Great video! I currently have a Corolla rental through Hertz!

Thank You, More Manufacturers Should Consider People, Especially Those With Less Income Or Extremely Bad Credit. Good Room In Car, I Wish Most Cars Had Locking Rear Wells And Glove Boxes Especially Since Some People Love To Steal Carjacks And Spare Tires Yeah.
Just recently bought a 2017 Nissan Versa note SR with 12k miles for $7,000 flat.
Yes, it was.
Amir Sejdic There’s a reason for that
7 grand!?! Nice. How's it working out? Do you still love it?
12k miles??? How many have you added in a year
Disney Fan my bad I’m a year late but no it’s actually not bad, it had side damage in the past so it’ has a salvage rebuilt title but only because of bad side damage and all that got completely repaired
Are you able to fold rear seats ?
With buttons on the key, how do you keep from pressing the buttons when you start the engine?
I don't know. That's a really good point and I've never really thought about it. Thankfully, it's never caused me an issues.
Does it have a backup camera
I really want this car
Forgive my bugging you here, but I have a question: Upon coming out of a turn, say around a city block for example, will the steering wheel self center? Hope to hear from you. Thanks! Peace...
Yup, I own this car, and it does self center, and quite smoothly too.

Is accelerating across a truck scale bad for the scale?
I think a mild case of dyslexia kicked in during the steering wheel demo at the 02:24 videomark.

We had a 17 Versa for 2 months from enterprise and the cabin noise was unbearable we did a 300 mile road trip during that time and thought we were going to die from the sound. They luckily switched it out with an 18 Kia Optima which was so much nicer. It was also extremely shaky on the interstate which made it almost scary to drive. I personally drive a 2010 Nissan Versa and a Subaru Legacy. My almost 10 year old versa drives nicer than the new one from personal experience.
I agree, the Optima is a great car.
I just bought a 2016 Versa S. Sometimes it's hard to take out of gear. Especially on hills. How dow I take it out smoothly and not tear my transmission up?😭😭
Is it a CVT.
Kevin Cody It's an S S Plus.
@@padussia CVT refers to the transmission being a 'continuously variable transmission.' Make certain you apply the parking brake every time, I had the same issue on our driveway which is on a hill. If I didn't use the parking brake to keep the car from rolling back on the transmission, it was very difficult to shift out of gear.
Kevin Cody Ok. I will try that.
Can You Please Do A 2018 Ford Escape ?? 💛
Swap out the screen for a AA & ACP supported unit. Plenty of SV's available on the rental car sale sites. '19's should show up in a few months. But sure to have the vehicle checked out and change all of the fluids. Once you get to about 100K sell it to avoid any long term CVT BS.
No navigation?
I can smell the interior.
😂
Bought this one new 2018 manual transmission like it
Nice. Congratulations!
How's it driving? Considering the same car.
I liked it. The Versa handles well and acceleration is good. At this price point, I think it's a good buy.
My versa stick shift have better accerelation.from stop light.and from 60mph to 80mph at 5th gear.
Nice. I wish I could rent manual transmission vehicles, they're so much more fun to drive, but it's just not possible from the big rental car places.
Would have to agree- I think a used, more substantial car is a better value for under $16k.
I got mine for $100 cuz the old man was really nice he said okay you can get this car for a hundred bucks I said okay so I give him $100 with $1 bills
How tall are you?
Is a 2019 versa a bad car
Why did you stop at a truck weigh station?
Bradford Ramm it’s a prime filming spot if you want to film cars
I usually film on my lunch hour or at the end of the day, so I don't have a lot of time to scout a great location. This is one my way home and usually empty, so I take advantage of it. I admit it's not ideal, but it better than nothing.
100 Rental Cars thx I didn’t notice the background in the review just the stop sign.
Is it a Hybrid? I did not hear it start up when I saw you turn the key nor when you got into it and drove off.
Nope, not a hybrid. Most likely I had to edit out the sound because of background noise. I don't always have time to film my rentals in quiet places. Sometimes there's loud traffic noises or worse....so I remove those from my videos to hopefully make them a bit more tolerable.
I had this car as a rental recently. I found, at around 55 MPH, the car felt like it wanted to veer of the road. Kinda like my wife's minivan (or any vehicle with tall sides that catch the wind) would feel on an exceptionally windy day where the cross winds are pushing you around. I hated that part of the car. On the plus side, damn the gas was cheap. Between my wife's van, which is probably $45+ to fill, and my truck, which is $60+ to fill, the Versa was amazingly cheap to fill. We stopped at an overpriced, tourist area gas station to refill the Versa in Florida. Gas should have been around $2.65/gal in that area at the time. This tourist trap station was $3.05 + $ 0.10 because I used a CC. So, $3.15 a gallon. Versa was less than a quarter tank at time of fill up. $22 & change filled it up! I was very impressed by that. I went through another, roughly, 35% of the tank before I had to refill to return the car. I cost just over $6 bucks to top it off. And the car had about the same interior room as a Civic/Corolla I'd guess, without actually measuring it (I used to own a Civic back in the day). Perhaps the Versa is a bit smaller but I had my wife, myself, and my 5 year old and we fit comfortably with our suitcase in the trunk. My advice is, if I'm not planning on doing much high speed highway driving with the vehicle, then it's worth considering. If you're driving 55+ regularly then it's not great. I did find that the driving experience kinda normalized after maybe 65 - 70 MPH, but I didn't feel comfortable pushing this car to those speeds. Perhaps with time I'd feel more comfortable at higher speeds, as I learned the car, but I only had it for a week. I probably put around 300 miles on it. Granted, this was a rental, so I don't know the history on this car, but it seemed to be in nice condition.
The modern day people's car.

At 1:37 To 1:43 Why Would You Make A Sharp Turn ON Tight Corners😐 Anyway What Ever Car You Buy SUV's Or Hyundai It Will Flip It 😲 I Want The 2020 Versa I Need A New Car
Bring the Micra to the US.
I like the idea of the Versa as its similar to my Mirage G4 but I eont like the exterior of this car its ugly especially the rear end. Plus the Versa has bad reliability and even though its the Jayco CVT 7 like in my Mirage it has been very unreliable in the Versa as are most of Nissans CVTs for some reason. Now I do like the new. Ersa coming out it looks sharp and more than likely the Versa and Mirage G4 will share a platform when the Mirage G4 gets redesigned in 2020 or 2021. Now the Mirage hatch will ride on the same platform as the Nissan Micra and Renault Clio redesign which looks sharp. Anxious to see the redesigned Versa out and about!
I think the main reason people have issues with CVT is not changing the fluid every 30,000 or so to be safe I believe maintenance is key with a CVTs longevity. A girl ai work with has 130,000 on a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer CVT and has changed the CVT fluid at 50,000 intervals and has had no issues.
My other co workers 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage CVT has 32,000 miles on it and she changed her CVT fluid at the 4 year and 30,000 mile mark and has had no issues either. I had no issues with my 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage CVT the 2 years I owned it and have had none with my 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 in the 2 years 2 months I have owned it.
This car costs 17,000 The s plus is 15,000.
