    I have a few questions and ridiculous ideas; how does it work out around your shop? I ask because I'm considering a "tool station" with a 5in vise in the center with horizontal hammer racks on each side and a pliers/tongs rack on the back. But, I'm concerned with access to the vise with all the hand tools there. Do you feel your levels are correct? And, do the various tool functions work well in those positions, related to one another? Now, for the ridiculous suggestions: filling it with sand will deaden the vibration moving through the stand from hard use, rock dust, or pea gravel would work as well. But, a bazillion rubber balls krammed in there would work even better and maybe not weigh so much. I saw a listing for 12 gross super balls recently. I'll post a video if I ever make up my mind on this tool station...

    I’m loving the sea foam green..I was a marine engineer for almost three decades...always chose that for engine room bulkheads and other fittings.....so calming and serene among the noise and chaos of engines, turbos and system alarms...

      It is a color that you have to be comfortable with your manhood to use. I wear pink whenever I feel like it as well. Of course I am color challenged, not completely color blind, so I don't see things the way others see them anyway.

    Great job as always Jim. The finishing touches (colour and graphics) are just what I would expect from a fellow OCD perfectionist. ;o) Have a great weekend mate.

      Thank you kindly my friend! Yes I am afraid that I may have people thinking that I like all the labels facing forward when I look into the fridge:-) Should I tell them now and leave no doubt? Hope you're enjoying your holiday weekend as well!

    Ear plugs is really important when welding. I've never got a ember all the way to the drum, but just inside the ear. From that moments on, I never weld without earplugs, peltors (with audio book) or a welding hood.
    Another welding tip, if you get a drop of melted metal on you, sit still and edure the pain, it will kill the nerve endings, that way it doesn't hurt afterwards. You get scars, but not as big as it can be if you start jumping around.

    Jim, great work and design on that stand. Question for ya about that top plate. I know you said you didn't want to weld it all the way around, totally agree. However, if you were to ever replace that vice, wouldn't it be more prudent to just attach another top plate to current one? Mounting holes wouldn't make much difference unless I'm missing something.

    • @YachtShopCreations
      @YachtShopCreations  7 років тому +1

      Hello again my friend, excellent point and I would mostly agree! However I did a little research before building this and many of the higher end vises have actually four mounting holes. The one I put on only has three. So you can see the obvious problem if in fact the new vice holes lineup with the edge of the pipe again like the old one did.
      But of course welding it the way I did is only my opinion of the future events, does not necessarily mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of things;-)
      Until next time, be well.

    I got two rims and tires that are just waiting for a project like this! I was wondering what the heights of each turned out to be? Overall, another great build video! Dang, you got some great projects. Would be interested to know about the color choice and what's the background there? Unlike any other design choice, color evokes emotion more than any thing else.

    • @YachtShopCreations
      @YachtShopCreations  7 років тому

      I will get all the measurements and let you know tomorrow. What are you referring to in regards to the background? Curious to know what emotion the color evoked on you? If you'll notice some of my other videos we painted some cabinets in the shop with the same seafoam green. I just like the color, it's very calming :-)
      Talk soon,
      Jim

      Sorry its not tomorrow, but a day or two later, we have a Hurricane Irma about to ship this vise stand to you:-( Top of the Anvil is 40.5 inches, vise is 52 inches at the jaws and the pipe vise is 34 inches at center of jaw. Yes the vise is high but very comfortable for me. Talk soon my brother!

    Nice design- you could throw some sand in there if you wanted it to be heavier- but more importantly it'll be quieter...

    when I was 8 years old a june bug crawled in my ear and got stuck trying to turn around! That's when I woke up and started screaming.....Yeah imagine those spiked legs spinning out on your ear drum.....the noise, ....the pain...Holy shit the speed we were going to the hospital,,actually caught air over some rail road tracks....and landed on the only bunny or animal my mom ever ran over! Shit who could forget something like that? So all these 38 years no one has been able to beat that story....until today. My son's joy is in herding june bugs into the house and trying to get them to land on me...Ha Ha ..real funny, it is his way of letting me know he knows my weakness and fears....but what if my story had been a molten piece of hot steel rolling in my ear? You got me hands down man, I would wear ear plugs just to drive by a site where someone was welding and I saw the look in your eyes when you mentioned that,,,I felt your pain and seriousness man, in fact I'll never weld upside down again without something pluggin them holes, thanks for the warning.

    Should have made (2) 2 tool stands. The bench and pipe vises on one, and a real anvil and a post vise on the other. That cast iron anvil isn't something worth even it's dirt cheap price.

  • @vladsatan3299
    @vladsatan3299 5 років тому

    The anvil is not firmly fixed, literally hanging in the air!
