Disney Renaissance Timeline
The Disney Renaissance is one of the most beloved periods in animated film history. It started with "The Little Mermaid" in 1989 and ended with "Tarzan" in 1999, spanning 10 films total. The Disney Renaissance is widely credited with saving Disney as a studio. After the commercial failure of "The Black Cauldron" in 1985, Disney decided to return to form with colourful, fairy-tale based musicals. This recemented Disney's dominance when Studio Ghibli was producing spectacles like "Grave of the Fireflies" and "My Neighbour Totoro". Today we're addressing the Renaissance from a unique angle - historical accuracy by putting them in timeline order. #Disney

Hi
Arthur, Big Bang Theory, Batman the Animated Series, Magic School Bus, Ultimate Spider-Man, TMNT 2003, and of course My Little Pony Friendship is Magic all good to evil.
Awesome Video
First
Here an idea Cartoon Characters stupid to most Stupid
A fun fact that probably no one remembers is, there is a spin-off Timon and Pumbaa cartoon where they are dragged into the Roman colosseum to fight the lions... Only to find their friend Simba.
As a kid, this led me to believe that the lion king was set in the Roman era
I remember that show! Yeah I thought the same thing
The Renaissance is the Best Disney Age Ever.
Totally!
For real. We had it good indeed.
Ranking the ages:
7- The wartime Age (Saludos Amigos 1942 - The Adventures of Ichabod & Mister Toad 1949)
Of course, all of you agree with me, this is the weakest age. I just watched Saludos Amigos and Fun and Fancy free)
6- The After-Renaissance age (Fantasia 2000 - Bolt 2008)
These movies are really good (especially The emperor's new Groove), but I can't rank it higher because of another nostalgic movies to me, so I'm sorry...
I watched 4/10.
5- The bronze age (Aristocats 1970 - Oliver & Company 1988)
I like these movies, there are some so nostalgic to me, especially The Rescuers, but there are more out of this. I just didn't watch Aristocats and The Black Cauldron and Winnie the Pooh
The Disney renaissance was childhood for so many of us!
Also Disney Villain Schemes: Brilliant to Most Brilliant.
I think the most brilliant scheme belongs to prince Hans or Bellwether
@@user-gb4mq6jk9l or Hades.

They really didn't care about accuracy in the 90s lol
Disney is part of my childhood and world.
A comment about The Little Mermaid:
Denmark was also one of the many European countries to establish colonies, while not as prolific as other nations, a very specific part of the Danish colony history is that the Virgin Islands was, up until 1917 when they sold to the United States, a Danish Colony known as the Danish West Indies. If the 1890's time-frame is correct, it could very much still have been in Denmark, as a technicality.
It didn't take place in Denmark though. It took place in the Mediterranean.
Though the story is Danish, the setting for the Disney movie looks more Mediterranean. The undersea world looks like a composite of tropical and Mediterranean underwater habitats. Eric's kingdom looks like southern France, Sardinia or some other country in the region.

A surprisingly educational video! Well done, WB!
Rescuers down under wouldn't take place in the Victorian era but instead somewhere in the 70's, the reason for this is just like in Mulan and how the forbidden city was made in 1406, the rescuers films have both a human and mice equivalent to the United Nations which wasn't made until 1945 and at the end of the first movie we see that there's color tv which wasn't invented until 1953, and finally Medusa's car is most likely a panther de vil ( since she was originally suppose to be cruela de vil and she also has the same car) which wasn't invented until 1973,
Agree. Also Medusa seems to have a WWII era gun, and in rescuers down under he has electric lights abs winches on his vehicle. Agree with your placement RJ
Yeah....He effed up! Lol!
Also: the mice clearly fly over the Sydney Opera House, which was completed in the 1970s.
There’s also a civilian passenger helicopter in the original and a 747 jet airliner in the sequel
I'm pretty sure at the start of Down Under, mice in Hawaii send an alert via computer.

Hold On Now! Doesn't McLeach have a bigass truck in Rescuers Down Under? Could that be possible in 1890's Australia? I would rather believe the Bernard and Bianca have unnaturally long lives than call that an anachronism. I'd put the Rescuers Down Under between WW1 and WW2.
I would put it much later than that. Probably the 1970s or early 80s. Didn't the first one take place in the 1970s when it was made.
Also: the mice clearly fly over the Sydney Opera House, which was completed in the 1970s.

24:40 The existence of Tip and Dash in "The Little Mermaid 2" is another continuity error. Penguins live in the Antarctic while Walruses live in the Arctic, you know, literally at opposite poles of the world. I personally wouldn't consider the sequel as canon (or any of the Disney direct to DvD sequels for that matter).
The geographical location of The little mermaid is difficult because the creators seemed to be more interested in creating a colourful kingdom more than an accurate one. However, I would bet my money that it is set in the Mediterranean. Palm trees were introduced in Europe a long time ago, and they grow easily in the warm coastlines of the Mediterranean. The architecture of Eric's kingdom looks western Mediterranean too, like southern France, Sardinia or some Italian island, maybe even Slovenia or Portugal (the latter is facing the Atlantic ocean, not the Med). Flamingos can be found in Europe too, the Greater Flamingo is distributed from Spain and Northern Africa to the Middle East. As for the underwater life, that one can be tricky. Sebastian has a Jamaican accent, which supports the theory that the movie is set in the Caribbean. But then again, Eric's butler, Grimbsy, is British, and chef Louis is French, so...
Flounder is possibly a sargeant fish (not a real flounder), which is a cosmopolitan species in tropical or subtropical waters, and it can be found both in the Caribbean as in Portugal, so one can argue for both a European or a Caribbean setting. But most other species like the great white shark that attacks Ariel in the sunken ship, the whales, the dolphins, the seals, the corals and more can be found or could be found in the Mediterranean at one point, as well as in other places in the world. And if we were to indulge the validity of the sequel a little, the film refers to Triton's kingdom as "Atlantica", a mythical realm that is believed to have existed in the Mediterranean or in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean. Bottom line, I think there's more things linking the setting to Mediterranean or southern Europe.
The Disney Renaissance has to be my most fav era of Disney movies ever!
Brad, you’re here yaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Well for Lion King you cooould incorporate the Timon and Pumba spin-off which is set in modern times but... I'd understand why that reference would be totally ignored.
I can agree to all except the rescuers since at the end of the film all the mice are watching a news report on a colored television.
Also: the mice clearly fly over the Sydney Opera House, which was completed in the 1970s.
you should totally do Studio Ghibli films list

I liked this video simply because it puts to light the idea I either heard or came up with while watching the Marvel films.
Long story short, basically throughout film and television history, if the topic is based on either real world happenings, or a source material(book, comics, etc.)
What occurs as often as each films release is soemthing I like to call, The Sivler Screen Liberties.
I call it that cause 1. It sounds better than continuity error, that just sounds like the company made a major mistake and therefore can draw me out of the story they're trying to tell.
And of course, reason #2 for me calling it Silver Screen Liberties is because, yeah, not being 100% correct on the minor details can feel like a let down, or lead to fan theories as this video mentioned countless times, but, at the same time, it's a liberty the studios can make because, sometimes they can make the film's a little more easy to follow or its a cheap way to explain one plot point.
Just my two cents, I didn't mean to ramble, I just enjoy the fact that i stumbled upon this channel via the "Recommended" list by UA-cam algorithms.

I mostly agree, but The Lion King must take place in 1990’s!
Only Hakuna Matata is Swahili, The Circle of Life is sang in ZULU!

I thought the Black Cauldron was a good movie scared the crap out of me but it was still good
I think The Lion King might take place in the 1990’s…
But I’m pretty sure electronic city’s existed in the 90’s. That’s dumb brain mode. This smart brain mode. This must’ve tooken place in the savanna in a tour
Who freakin' knows when it takes place?
Lack of humans makes it incredibly hard to say.
But then there’d be more modern cities
But it probably takes place far outside the city. Like in a national park
14:42 actually that that flag is correct
Thats the first union jack(notice the lack of the cross of saint Patrick) which was created in 1606
The flag you were referring to was the modern union jack with the red lines which was created in 1801
Yeah but in the scene where they first touch down he has the current one, while in all the other shots it's the 1606 one, maybe someone screwed in the animation.

The Little Mermaid is set in either France or Italy. There's no way it's set in Denmark.
@Will N I'm not sure what you mean by Bloom. But Eric's kingdom is definitely some Mediterranean country considering the animal life (flamingoes and great white sharks are nowhere near Denmark), Ariel's mother was killed by pirates and the Mediterranean was once a breeding ground for pirates up to the mid-19th century, the ocean looks too warm to be in northern Europe, Eric's wedding outfit looks like a French military uniform and the fleur-de-lis is seen on Eric's ship. My personal theory is that the story takes place in a world where Napoleon successfully cemented his empire and Eric is a prince regent of a fictional French island kingdom somewhere between Italy and southern France.
I'm thinking little mermaid is actually sat around the time the original story was written. Since these are just fictional stories of course they're going to have anachronisms. That would leave it at about 1820s or 1830s

If you ignore the costume inaccuracy, there is still one viable time period for Mulan's setting: 1550. The explanation for the Hun invasion is that these are not the Huns, these are the Khalkha Mongols, under Altan Khan, raiding Beijing. Shan Yu is thus most likely one of Altan Khan's generals. The fireworks fit, the location fits, the invaders fit, the costume inaccuracy is typical of the Disney Renaissance, it makes sense to me, let me know in the comments if I'm wrong.

I'm surprised you missed this glaring detail for The Rescuers Down Under: the mice clearly fly over the Sydney Opera House in Australia... which was completed in 1973.... yet you say that this film takes place in the 1880s, because the first movie its based on did. Yes, mice only live 12-18 months, so this is a huge continuity error for Disney, yes. Apparently these mice lived for around 90 years!
Great video. Very well researched and explained. However, I don't agree with your timeline when it comes to "The rescuers" and "The rescuers down under". Remember that at the end of the first movie, the mice see Penny being adopted through TV in colour, which it certainly didn't exist in the late 19th century. We also see "modern" cars and 20th century buildings as Orville flies over the streets of New York. And more modern technology is shown throughout the sequel. The narrative similarities with the Arthur Conan Doyle novels and other Victorian works of literature come across to me as inspirational more than precise clues of setting. Other than that, your explanations for the setting of all the other movies are very convincing.
Also: the mice clearly fly over the Sydney Opera House in the sequel, which was completed in the 1970s.
@@transp0rter1 True, which shows the films are set in the 20th century!
There is also the fact that the Rescuers features a scene where Bernard and Bianca exit a fairly modern looking bus when going to Penny's orphanage, giving more evidence that the Rescuers is set in what would have been present day at the time of that film's release

The fan theory about Little Mermaid being set in the Caribbean makes sense… especially since Sebastian has a Jamaican accent.
Actually, it's set in the Mediterranean, on account for most of the topography in the film. For example, the grape vines found in the town near Prince Eric's summer palace are mostly native to the Mediterranean region (they're also native to Central Europe and southwestern Asia). Filmmakers and directors of the film actually made commentary of this being the case. The reason why Sebastian was given a Jamiacan accent, as well as Under The Sea sounding the way that it does, is mostly due to Howard Ashman, the film's song lyricist. He wanted to insert a song number in the film that had a Calypso-sounding feel to it in order to portray the undersea world as vivacious, colorful, and extraordinary compared to the surface world. It was because of this song is why Sebastian's accent was changed from being initially concieved as posh British to instead a Jamaican accent during the film's development.
It is likely that Sebastian is a immigrant from the Caribbean who traveled to Europe
