It is a true beauty how this 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 looked, in full light, with that soft Pastel Blue color and its black air intake and rear spoiler! It's impressive how the engineers were able to fit that huge V8 engine block in such a small space! A nice black interior, dominated by its stylized sports seats, along with that elegant instrument panel decorated in wood and with large dials (special mention for its large gear lever, T Hurst style, and the large clock, also in the form of a tachometer , on the glove box side). Yes... the Mustang never raced NASCAR...only Fairlane/Torino's and Cyclone's did. The street Boss was a very de-tuned version of the race engine with a retarded cam that was actually a 429 Cobra Jet cam intended for rocker arms of the same ratio. The Boss had two different ratio rockers. The compression was lowered to 10.5 to 1 and it was under carbureted. So, put a dedicated cam intended for the Boss and a 1050 cfm carb on it and look out! Of course you can bore and stroke it to nearly 600 inches....but that would be crazy. Right?
A great example, at least he drives it occasionally. There's a lot of exaggerated legend and lore behind these... we guess that's where the sky-high values come from today. According to our reading over the years, the engine was primarily designed for and succeeded in NASCAR; It was not considered a serious street contender in stock form, back in the day.
I was able to read the last paragraphs in that Car Craft article....Ford had way tougher street drivability standards for its performance street cars !!
@@arkhsm Ford quit making race-only specials in the mid-'60's. These had to purr like a kitten and start at -20 degrees, so grandma could get to church. The COPO ZL-1's were far closer to real race cars, requiring minimum mods to make them really run.
Hi texanfournow, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Hmmm, I'd put high octane, however since I don't have a muscle car....yet, that's a good question if I'd need to add lead to it. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge car share. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Every so often that car needs to go to the track to blow the crap out of the engine. Henry Ford Jr. had to love speed to allow such a big engine in such a small car! Why The NASCAR on the sticker? Was it for homologation purposes? Thx again Lou!
These Mustang Boss 429 engines were "de-tuned" from their design specs, and most of the owners I have seen keep them original for collector value. If I owned one, I would "re-tune" it as much as possible, and drive the hell out of it. Classic high performance cars that exist as static show pieces remind me of wild animals kept in cages - sad wasted potential.
Looks like a secretary's car...lol but in the best possible way ❤mine would have louder mufflers n exhaust tho And the smog pump would be gone Guess I'll just have to be happy with my mint in box Monogram kit from the 80s😢

Hi Cobra Charmer, Happy to read "Beautiful BOSS 429!" :-) Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You're welcome, Lou
A friend of my brother had a 69' Mach1 with a 4 speed in HS. One day we missed the bus and he was driving by picked us up and gave us a ride to school. We all got to school late. Circa 1973.

Magnum 500 wheels. Kar Kraft was about a half hour from where I live in Wixom, Michigan. The shock towers were readjusted for the engine & battery in the trunk.
Thank you for sharing Daniel.
🔥👍😍👍🔥
:-)
Nice 😊
:-)
I think i like the 57 chevy convert parked near by
Here is the link, enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/Y0szvTPkyEg/v-deo.html
Glory for the ol pony
Giddy up :-)
Its pretty tame in stock form. Depends you could add some bolt on parts and store the original parts you can always put them back. Headers, better intake and carb and a cam and it will really come alive

@@loucostabile i have a 70 fastback to , but with a Cleveland. The hood scoop i made a boss 429 replica with functioning scoop same like the original. Even the pull button is in the same place. Its a cool engine the 429. But factory wise its very de-tuned
It had to be amazing to ride in a half million dollar car
To think that there was a time cars like this were almost un sellable.....
Happy to share the ride and experience with you :-)
The cars were shipped to KarKraft in Brighton,MI where they were modified to fit and install the engine.

The fact that it looks white in most light ..but it's pastel blue 💙 which they made under 400 I think I heard.😊

Yes... the Mustang never raced NASCAR...only Fairlane/Torino's and Cyclone's did.
Right?
Hi Gods own Drunk, Yes, the car did not race at NASCAR, and yes, that would be crazy to bore it out. Lou
I thought this car was white until you said it was blue! Although I'd noticed some blue under the hood and figured it was an illusion.
Thanks for sharing.
Happy to read "great example" :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you.
I had a '69 Mustang, alas only a 302--but it was still quick. BTW, in 2024, what type of fuel would you put in a vintage muscle car?
Hi texanfournow, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Hmmm, I'd put high octane, however since I don't have a muscle car....yet, that's a good question if I'd need to add lead to it. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge car share. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The bottom end is a 385 series big block 429 basically with custom heads to compete with the hemi back in the day.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Lou, for the 8th time the rims are Magnum 500s!!!!! Not rally rims.
....I'll hopefully get it some time in the future :-)
Great car, but the owner needs to rev-match on the downshifts. It’s painful to hear the tires chirp when the clutch grabs.
Happy to read you enjoy this "Great car" :-) Thank you for sharing a tip.
This is a really nice car. But I noticed in the back ground he also had a nice looking 57 Chevrolet convertible in the driveway.
Here is that 57 Chevrolet. ua-cam.com/video/Y0szvTPkyEg/v-deo.html
@@loucostabile Thanks Lou I just watched it. Gorgeous car.
Saw one for sale 20 years ago at MSRA,400,000.

I'm a mustang man..i have a 1986 must.gt 5.0 HO But needs restored..it does run though.and it's a 5 speed.i have had it for about 20yrs..
Hi Butch, Clearly you enjoy your car and hope you get your car restored soon, Lou
@@loucostabile thanks Lou...Butch
Every so often that car needs to go to the track to blow the crap out of the engine. Henry Ford Jr. had to love speed to allow such a big engine in such a small car! Why The NASCAR on the sticker? Was it for homologation purposes? Thx again Lou!
Hi Bradydog, "Every so often that car needs to go to the track to blow the crap out of the engine" LETS GO! You're welcome, Lou
Lou muted his mic at 0:09 and said to Bruce "Let's exceed this 35 mph speed limit, shall we?"
:-)
These Mustang Boss 429 engines were "de-tuned" from their design specs, and most of the owners I have seen keep them original for collector value. If I owned one, I would "re-tune" it as much as possible, and drive the hell out of it. Classic high performance cars that exist as static show pieces remind me of wild animals kept in cages - sad wasted potential.
Hi soyounoat, Well that's why we thought we'd drive this one for you :-) I like driving them too, Lou
Looks like a secretary's car...lol but in the best possible way ❤mine would have louder mufflers n exhaust tho
And the smog pump would be gone
Guess I'll just have to be happy with my mint in box Monogram kit from the 80s😢
Happy to read you have a mint in the box model :-)
8:35 Boss 429 one of the easiest eng. to change plugs on. Its a Semi Hemi the plugs are right in the valve covers.😖
Thank you for sharing.
Hey Luigi what are you saying Why do you tell me this guy had a 57 Bel Air Convertible also no but all kidding aside nice Mustang just out of curiosity how many cars does this gentleman have thanks Louie take care
Hey Antonio, Here is the 57 Chevy. You're welcome Tony Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/Y0szvTPkyEg/v-deo.html
Check it out...9:19. In the mid 70s my car was a 69' Ply Road Runner 383. The article says my car would have blown this 429 into the weeds.😫😩Oooohh That article is scathing and be calling Ford out!😂⋆༺𓆩☠︎︎𓆪༻⋆
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Did he leave the manual choke on ? !
Hmmm, I don't think so, however maybe.
Yep, let's speed and horse around in a 35 mph zone.
MOM! I'm so happy you're watching!
It's the youth car....
Thank you for sharing.
2:35 Oommmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (meditating r us!)

It's a beautiful car but it sounds like the valves need to be adjusted they baby the he'll out of it
Hi Charles, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thanks for sharing a mechanical tip, Lou
One hot wheeled car is all I can say. Too much engine for me in this car body, but it's great looking 70 mustang.
