Hi Ron. As to not driving or starting the car. The car is a MCA "Thoroughbred Gold" Award car. (one of three known to exist) That means the parts including the tires and exhaust are date code correct. Driving the car would damage the exhaust to the extent that it no longer would be a "Gold" car or Thoroughbred, since an entire period correct exhaust system is probably not available anymore.

Wow thanks for the episode. Perhaps the nicest Boss 9 on UA-cam? BTW in the description the engine was described as a 429 Cobra Jet. The Cobra Jet available in '69 was a 428 wedge head engine. The the 429 CJ was a "twisted wedge" head engine available in the Mach 1 and Torino starting in 1970. The Boss 429 engine uses the unique semi-hemi heads among many other differences.

Just so intriguing this car is. When was made I was just 11 years old. That color on my computer does not do it justice with that bright red color in person. When I was in H.S. in the early 70's i worked as a shop boy at the only machine shop in Titusville Fl. During Daytona race week we'd get very busy with some of the teams using the machine shop and dyno. I was a young teen Ford guy and one day we had a Boss 9 engine having some machining done, the team head mechanic was there working with our Master Machinist and I took the opportunity to ask him about why the Boss was rated 375 vs the 427 sideoiler's being rated 425 HP. He chuckled and said well regarding the factory 427 being rated 425, Ford just stuck a popular number on it, he said the tunnel port with two four barrels made a lot more than 425 and the high riser with two fours also made si8gnificantly more , but the 425 may have been pretty close for the low riser with a factory single four barrel. As to the Boss 9 he said the 375 HP rating was probably pretty accurate with factory exhaust, air intake with smog and the factory carb and cam, as Ford had it suffocated to pass the new EPA exhaust tests. He then said, a stock factory 429 that we receive we blue print it and with tuned headers and hand made two four-barrel intake, with two 1000 cfm holleys and custom cam they would pull 800 HP.

Hi Pablo. Correct. This is not the engine installed in the Mach I cars. The factory window sticker states the engine is "429 CID 4V Cobra Jet H0 8 Cylinder 375 HP Ram Air Eng."
When not detuned for the street the Boss 9 was unbeatable. Knew a guy who had a TUNED 69 and with the 4.30 gears and 4 speed it was a 1/4 mile rocket ship, beat BB ,Chevys and mopars and ate Z28,s like it was its last meal. LOL

@Lou Costabile like a lot of collectors in America though, Ken has become too obsessed about not driving these restored cars. I noticed the speedometer, it's a 58000 mile correctly restored car, not a 5000 mile preserved museum piece. They might be the correct date coded tires the restorer has found and put on the car but no way could they be the original tires to that car at 58000 miles, the originals would have long worn out. No way all those repro stickers on the windows could be original either at 58k. I'd buy a set of repro wheels and new tires to put on it and drive it occasionally whilst he is still fit and healthy enough to drive, keep those knackered date coded tires for the equally obsessed concours judges 🤣🤣
Hi lyonheart84 exotic fruit growing, Well I like driving them, so if this one was mine, it would see some road time. However, Ken has a amazing collection, and kind to share his cars with us, and actually he RARELY starts this one, so this is a real treat and happy to share it with you, Lou
Point well-taken when I first started watching a video I was under the impression that the car was unrestored but Lou mention that it was restored hence the 58000 miles my goodness get the car out and enjoy
@@acts2211 it's all about the money, there's 2 types of wealthy collector, the guy that drives all of his cars ( sparingly ) and the guy that buys them purely for investment ( which he'll deny until he's blue in the face lol ). The cars never get started or driven which for me is a travesty of justice, but I guess one day the guy drops dead and the cars get auctioned off, either to be bought by another investor or if lucky a wealthy guy that will drive them occasionally. As I said I can understand somebody preserving a 3000 mile museum piece but a 58000 mile restored car could be enjoyed on the road 😁😎
Nice. But my favorite Ford hemi is the SOHC 427. The SOHC had issues though do to the long timing chain. Someone developed a set of timing gears ⚙️ to replace the long chain.

The quality control back then was something else. They had a guy, who would check the guy, that checked the guy. Kar-Kraft imo saved the Mustang from becoming an over weight personal luxury car. Ford was very stubborn and stuck within their ways.

@@loucostabile Thankfully some people keep the older cars like this and restore them, The new cars are just so cheaply made and all look like plastic toys. I still drive my 1997 Mercury Grande Marquis 4.6 135,000 miles.
Gorgeous Boss. Figures... Ken Nagel. :)
Hi Uncle Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Spectacular car the Holy Grail of Mustangs absolutely phenomenal thanks for showing us Lou
Hi acts2210, "Holy Grail of Mustangs" Well said. My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
This is another fantastic video that I had to watch twice! A great thanks Lou!
Hi JON, Happy to read this video was good enough for a 2nd view :-) You're welcome, Lou
A beauty‼️ I can imagine all 375 ponies living under the hood let go to run free! Loved 69’s and 80’s Mustangs. The best looking in the corral. The 69 Boss and Mach 1 series, love them!
Hi Trip Reviews, Happy to read you enjoy this Mustang :-) Lou
To each it’s own but man cars this beautiful should be driven smh awesome car!
Hi ThatdudeSlim, I'd have to drive this one if it was mine, Lou
¡Que auto más impresionante, por cualquier ángulo donde se le mire! El color y el acabado de pintura son soberbios. Además del emocionante sonido producido por el V8 “Cobra Jet". ¡Excelente vídeo... Saludos!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you are impressed with this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Absolutely gorgeous car

Magnificent Mustang!!! Quite the special pony, I'm sure it wants to win a race or two, and Ken won't take it to the track :O
Hi Steel Assault, High praise :-) This one stays in the stable. Lou
OH YEAH!! Lou, I’ll take one in Tuxedo Black!! 🥳👍🏾😎
NICE ! Like this one? ua-cam.com/video/5ZY3LLpS-5Y/v-deo.html
Wow Lou there are no words except this car is above outstanding. This the best car to finish his car collection for us to see. Sort of the Grand Finale of sort. This car I could write so much about but it is so perfect what can you say. I would be afraid to drive it myself and can't blame for doing so. The originality of this unit with the stickers the tires and so forth is so interesting. I was noticing the spare tire sticker said B.F.Goodrich made in Medina Ohio that is a half hour from my house Medina is. Back in those days Akron Medina area was the tire capital of the world. Just so intriguing this car is. When was made I was just 11 years old. That color on my computer does not do it justice with that bright red color in person. Mr. Nagel thank you for showing us your whole collection as I had not missed one of Lou's video's of your awesome units. Such a nice man you are Mr. Nagel for letting Lou show us your cars. And Lou thanks for bringing each vehicle to us to see I know I appreciate seeing them. Just a outstanding video Lou and thanks for sharing it to us!!!
Hi Steve, High praise for the Boss of Mustangs :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, you're welcome, and good news! Ken has a few more to share on the Channel so stay tuned, Lou
Hi Lou! Thank you for sharing one more great video with us! Candy apple red Grandpa Ford 429 Mustang looks lovely. I am sure if the owner would change to modern tires, the car would be as fast as a rocket.
Hi Aelita, Happy to share this "Candy Apple" with you :-) You're right, change to modern tire, and away this car would go! Lou
Hopefully Ken buys a few more for you to feature! Always enjoy seeing his collection!

Great looking movie car that would have been perfect the pilot car of gone in 60 seconds
You're right :-)
Great boss 429 semi-hemi !! The candy red is HOT, too! Lou, I know he doesn't drive this stang , but it seems like those tires might be a ticking time bomb ? Change the tires & drive it ,Ken .... just sayin! Thanks to Ken & to you Lou, you find the best for your show !!
Hi Kevin, High praise :-) I'm sure you don't want to go far on these tires. My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome. Appreciate the kind words on the show, Lou
Beautiful time machine car😍 Thanks Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to take you back to 1969 in this one :-) You're welcome, Lou
Good Morning, Lou! Almost 100K subcribers! How about doing a special "Blooper reel" episode to celebrate the milestone?
Hi Glenn, If you type into UA-cam search "My Car Story with Lou Blooper" you'll see some :-) Lou

I didn't get an alert on this one glad I checked that is my second favorite car of all muscle cars Sooo awesome.
Hi derwood 454, Hmmm, disappointed to read UA-cam did not share an alert :-( Happy to read you were able to see this one. I upload on UA-cam 2 to 3 times a week (Usually Tuesday AM, Thursday AM, and Saturday AM) Lou
Thank you!!
You're welcome.
Cars are meant to be driven, Mustangs are born to run!
Hi Daniel, I like driving or riding in them too. Lou
One of the greatest Muscle Cars. But this is not a Cobra jet engine. The BOSS 429 was a complete diferent engine to the cobra jet.
Hi Pablo, High praise for this Muscle Car. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi Pablo. Correct. This is not the engine installed in the Mach I cars. The factory window sticker states the engine is "429 CID 4V Cobra Jet H0 8 Cylinder 375 HP Ram Air Eng."
Yes there are basically two different 429 engines built off the 385 series block.
LOL

I'm not a Ford fan but this car blew me away plus it has the rarest engine the hemi 429 plus the restoration looks like the car is an unrestored original very beautiful unicorn of a pony car
Hi David R, High praise for this car :-) Lou

rare car~! real time capsule!
Hi Dan, Happy to share this one and take you right back to 1969 :-) Lou
Hello Lou. No doubt, this is a fantastic car, but if I were Ken I would enjoy this tiger that was made to be driven like a Tomcat.
Hello Felipe, If it were my car, I'd have to drive it. Lou
Always Like 👍 👍
Nice :-)
Beautiful.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
@@lyonheart84 couldn't agree more
Great 429 hands down. I did notice however that the back bumper was a little offset/down right crooked. Check it out at 11:32 mark.
Douglas, I get the feeling you can spot the girl with the big toe in the Victoria Secret runway model competition.......
The Boss Mustang was styled by Larry Shinoda, a former GM employee.he had his hand on designing the 1963 split window corvette with Bill Mitchell
HI David R, I think you'll enjoy this video, Lou ua-cam.com/video/JJgBEc445uM/v-deo.html
Nice. But my favorite Ford hemi is the SOHC 427. The SOHC had issues though do to the long timing chain. Someone developed a set of timing gears ⚙️ to replace the long chain.
Hi David, Happy to read you enjoy this "nice" car :-) Thank you for sharing which is your favorite, and motor tip too, Lou
love that boss
Nice :-)
Beautiful 👍😎🌟
High praise :-)
I'd still be tempted to light up those bias plys at least once
Me too :-)
nice car. nice guy..
Win / Win
Lou that engine looks like it could jump out and knock you over!!
Just the way we like it Paul :-)
I would have to drive it! Probably even at the dragstrip too.
Hi Greg, If it was mine, I'd drive it too. Lou
👍
:-)
No way could I own it and just look at it. A car like that needs to be driven ... fast!
Hi S King, If I had this car, I'd have to drive it too, Lou
Nice looking car
Glad you enjoy the looks of this car :-)

Happy to read you like this car :-)
The semi Hemi 429!!!
:-)
I wonder what the current (crazy now) market value is for that car? $125,000 - $150,000 ???
Hi kimosabbe50, No idea. Lou
@Lou Constable After doing some research the value of his Boss would START around $300,000!!!
Currently around $200k.
The quality control back then was something else. They had a guy, who would check the guy, that checked the guy. Kar-Kraft imo saved the Mustang from becoming an over weight personal luxury car. Ford was very stubborn and stuck within their ways.

No more Ken Nagel cars?
Hi Dann, We're getting close to all the cars in his collection, however good news! There is a few more, Lou
I guess I would put a set of radials on it and drive it at least one month in good weather, even with sta-bil, gas only last so long.
Hi TheRacerbrown, I like driving them too :-) Lou
Sorry sounded to me like that motor is about ready to blow up all the rods knocking and tapping and they were making noise
Hi James, Probably could use some road time to see if the motor will smooth out, Lou
This body style should have been continued instead of the body change that Ford made in 1971.
I agree that this is a great design.
