Wonderful story, 1968 Vietnam was hot. I went in the Army in 1969 and saw my car, a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger. It has been a project for 48 years, it keeps me young at 73..
Now that’s a “My Car Story”! What an iconic car and a great owner. The “Muscle Car “ era produced some of the greatest cars in styling and performance. Hi Bob, Real treat to share this rarely seen historic Mustang with you :-) Glad the Channel is a blessing for you, and it is for me too. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
I'm blown away by the imaculate condition of that Mustang. Under that cheesey hood every surface looks not just brand new, but like it never even got dirty. Just goes to show how much love us car guys can have for these inanimate objects.
Back in the 80's thru 2000's when I worked for Ford, I got to attend several "ride and drive" events at Ford's Romeo proving grounds - it was fantastic fun, getting to rag on pre-production models!

This 1968 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet looked extraordinary in that Wimbledon White! Those five-point chrome wheels look great on it; Also, I was surprised by the holes on the inside of the hood to save weight and all those original labels. Very nice black interior, with its red carpets, and the impeccable instrument panel. Congratulations, Mr. Parlett, for being the original owner of this rare test model and its fascinating history as a Ford engineer! Best regards, Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Mustang :-) The holes in the hood from the Factory remind me of the 1963 Pontiac's that used to do that to save weight, called the Swiss Cheese Pontiacs.....I would like to get one of those on the Channel :-) Lou

Great car, great story, and a lucky guy to have owned it from new. It is the only one I've seen with the Swiss cheese hood. It is not, however, the only automatic 135 cobra jet. At the 1968 NHRA Winternationals, there were 6 Cobra jet mustangs entered by Ford. 3 were 4 speed cars and 3 were automatics. The automatic cars were entered in C/ stock automatic, driven by Hubert Platt, and 2 Super Stock/ E automatic, driven by Don Nicholson and Gas Rhonda. The 4 speed cars were Super Stock /E, driven by Jerry Harvey, Al Joniec, and Hubert Platt. Al Joniec won the event in Super Stock. One other 135 car is owned by the original owner. That car is owned by Vinny Lyons, who was a mechanic at Rye Ford, and drove the car at the drags for the dealership, then purchased the car. It still wears Rye Ford livery.

Beautiful and rare Mustang for sure!!! Love the motor tranny combo! A very close Uncle of mine factory ordered a new 1968 Ford Fairlane with the rare 428 CJ motor and 4 speed. Very light car, it turned 13.3's all day long at the strip and trophied every time it was raced. The good ol' days are fondly remembered. Thanks for sharing this beautiful/rare 1968 Mustang!!

Absolutelty fantastic original test bed/skunkwerx Mustang coupled with Rogers' personal involvement with the car since it was built all those years ago. Cheers to all!
Wow, one of one and factory done! Holy cow! I hope that the Ford Museum buys it and pays him vast sums of money for it. The car really should be preserved for posterity.
Wow!...That's a rare beast. '68 fastback is my favorite Mustang. Cool guy...glad he has been such a good steward of such a special car. Thanks for the video!
Saw this car at Union(Il.) Il. railway museum transportation days. What a cool piece of history and that it escaped the crusher is just the cherry on top of the story. Any time you see a prototype/ concept car it's a rare treat.

The original Mustang in ‘64 is what got me started on being a car freak. I was 7 years old. The Mustang just seemed to get better every year. I’m sure that many will agree.
Wow, great feature. Thanks again for showcasing these amazing vehicles. I just love how many unique mustangs there are. Really appreciate these owners who are such good caretakers of these unique vehicles.

Lou, you really put the 'Story' in the 'My Car Story' with this one! What a piece of Ford history to have both the car AND the owner there at the beginning and still together. Can't wait to get to the 'Trunk-N-Treats' video on this one! Absolutely loved this video Lou!
What a great story I’m so happy Rodger hung on to his pride in joy all these years. I too own a very similar optioned early 69’ base model mustang fastback 428cj in candy apple with red interior. It’s oddly optioned with all the go fast goodies and it’s a total sleeper with dog dish hub caps. It’s a q code, c6 auto, sport suspension, ps, pb, 3.50 posi, high back buckets, 8:track and handful of others little options.
What a gem. Owner and car combined. Great choice of rims. I usually see dark colored rims on Mustangs, not chrome rims. The car looks fantastic with these chrome rims. And sounds so perfectly tuned. And Rogers storys are so great. Excellent video, Lou 👍👍
Loved the video. Does bring my memories flooding back. Had a similar drag against a Mopar 6 pack Barracuda. They must continued in the 69’s. Thank you!
beautiful car, rolled right off the assembly line.... 1968!... ive never been a big ford guy, but!.. if i ever had favorites its the 65-68 fastback mustangs.. specifically very special cars like this!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻...
@@loucostabile : I don't know if he ever scratched it, but I know he only bought re-treads. Crazy times, putting re-treads on a SCJ because you keep melting them down, here and there, and just for fun.
Total insanity putting the most powerful production engine in such a small car (yes, the 427 was more powerful than the dialed back 428’s), how could you not love it! Can you imagine what that car would sell for?
My favorite Mustang in my favorite color. Roger has a very special test car and bravo for keeping it all these years. I to prefer the 4 speed but owning the only A/T built of the 50… well I would be pretty damn content with that Cobra-Jet. What a great car…👍🏼
Very interesting story and history of this car. S code in the VIN, originally born as a 390. Early 68 with the early rear quarter side markers and without the extra .25" steel plate welded to the shock towers that all 68.5 428CJ mustangs and Shelby GT500KRs came with when released April of 68. Test mule for sure.

@@sloprunthat makes no sense if u put it in your garage and never drive it its one thing but museum actually lets a car live forever and educate random people about them
Nice car. My high school friend had 68 302 4speed car. It was a fun cruiser. I had a 69 427 4 speed Corvette I put together as a theft recovery. I've had at least 150 cars. Still have a 72 Country Sedan wagon and a 68 Eldorado. My summer driver Mercedes CLK 550convertible easily runs low 13's completely stock. I miss some of the old cars, they had a certain smell that my current classics don't have.

Wow, what a story: the original owner, an engineer at Ford, this is a 1 of 1 car, a 428 Cobra Jet, unrestored, 7327 miles, original badging, etc. I would love to see what this car sells for when it ultimately goes to auction, in due time.
In those days Fords were not 1 of my fav cars. But, ive always admired their styling and great looks. Once the BOSS 351 & 429 came out, Ford ranked up their with the best of Chevy (my fav). U & Roger covered the trans & 430 running gear, but not the engine internals......I woulda loved knowing those. The 1/4 stats Roger mentioned r extremely impressive----those rank amongst the best Chevy & Hemis had. I had 2 good buddies that had a LT1 Nova 4spd and a BOSS 351 4spd; very evenly matched on bottom end.

It reminds me of a '68 Shelby GT500KR I found on a used car lot in the Fall of '72 that was pr and iced at 1500. It was an automatic with a Shelby air cleaner and not the ram air type like this one. A friend of mine's brother had a '68 'stang fastback with the 428 Cobra Jet and ram air. Cool!
Hey Dennis Collins, their you go. 😁 Wow, now that's a holy grail car. I love 67-70 Mustangs, Mach 1, Boss, Shelby.. The rear fastback and those taillights have always been my favorite. And I'm more a Chevy guy. I think I'd take that Mustang over any Shelby.

335 hp, 4:30 gears and 3 speed automatic. Did I hear him say low 13’s? Good et in the day, but Roadrunners didn’t have a 440 until mid ‘69 when the A12 car was released. The A12 440 six barrels ran mid 12’s. I owned a new ‘68 Roadrunner with a 383/4 speed, and it ran mid 14’s. The muscle car wars of the 60’s were fun.

Hi Martin, Happy to read you appreciate the looks of this car :-) Lou
A kid down the street had a 69' SCJ Mustang.
Nothing could beat it, and I mean nothing
NICE!
@@loucostabile : I don't know if he ever scratched it, but I know he only bought re-treads.
Crazy times, putting re-treads on a SCJ because you keep melting them down, here and there, and just for fun.
What a beauty!
:-)
Good ole ' baby lou with another sweet one. Love this channel
Hi Big Hank, Happy to share this "sweet one" with you :-) Lou
Total insanity putting the most powerful production engine in such a small car (yes, the 427 was more powerful than the dialed back 428’s), how could you not love it! Can you imagine what that car would sell for?
Hi Bradydog, This one is easy to love :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing. Lou
Amazing car with an amazing story and a truly exceptional owner. Thanks for sharing
Hi Kevin, Happy to read you enjoy this "amazing" car & story. My pleasure sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
Glad he put it back on the road a rare version I got to enjoy
Hi Larry, I like he drives this one too :-) Lou
My favorite Mustang in my favorite color. Roger has a very special test car and bravo for keeping it all these years. I to prefer the 4 speed but owning the only A/T built of the 50… well I would be pretty damn content with that Cobra-Jet. What a great car…👍🏼
Hi Richard, Happy to read "My favorite Mustang in my favorite color." :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

I’ve been to Milan Dragway many times. It’s only about 40 minutes from where I was raised.
Nice :-)
Great car, great history. Thanks Lou! 👍
You're welcome 1969 :-)
Such a cool story... and car.
Happy to read you enjoy this story and car :-)
Very interesting story and history of this car. S code in the VIN, originally born as a 390. Early 68 with the early rear quarter side markers and without the extra .25" steel plate welded to the shock towers that all 68.5 428CJ mustangs and Shelby GT500KRs came with when released April of 68. Test mule for sure.

This is one beautiful Mustang…👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Damn 6,900 miles, what do you do with a car with low mileage? I mean this is a museum piece that should be put on display alone.
High praise.
A museum is where cars go to die. They are wild and need to live free.
Are u kidding? Drive it, or don't if you live in a big city with plenty of brain dead people
@@sloprunthat makes no sense if u put it in your garage and never drive it its one thing but museum actually lets a car live forever and educate random people about them
@@tommyversetti4598 I wrote this as hyperbole.
That's a great looking car and kind of rare due to it being an automatic this was? a great story😊
Hi Pete, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this historic Mustang with you, Lou
Sweet 5 stars 😀
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-)

Hi sloprun, Happy to share this historic Mustang story with you :-) Lou

13.5 at 106 is a damn good number for anything
even resembling stock back in those days.
Hi Johnnyc drums, Glad to see you're back. Hope all is well, Lou
I was 16 when I bought my 68.5 Cobra Jet. Held the record at Detroit Dragway for 3 years. I'll buy his car if he ever decides to sell it. I'm retired Ford too.

Hi Christopher, Happy to read you enjoy this interview, and appreciate the "Great video" :-) You're welcome, Lou
cool guy. nice car
:-)
This is a great story
Thank you.
Super rare car Lou love it and God Bless.
Hi Leroy, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Blessings received. God bless you too, Lou
What a time capsule!!!
You're right.
Cool!
Hi Automated Electronics, Happy to read this car brings back fun memories of other cool Mustangs :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great car, great old fella.
:-)
AMAZING SIMPLE THINGS GUY WHO I HOPE HE KNOWS WHAT HE GOT A TREASURE 😮OF THE MOST ICONIC MUSTANG COBRA JET ALL THE BEST TO HIM
Hi Billy, "HE MOST ICONIC MUSTANG COBRA JET ALL" High praise. Lou
How you found Mr Roger Parlett IDK but great job, thanks to the both of you!
Hi Robert, Happy to read "great job" :-) You're welcome, Lou
He kept it all these years
....yes he did.

Awesome as always, Lou. Thanks. Now I know it might be tempting but don't go and "swiss cheese" your Viper hood for more performance!
Hi Anthony, High praise. You're welcome. Vipers hood is light enough :-) Lou
