You can hear the Stanley Clarke influence in his playing at times here. For all the technical precision of the guitars in Metallica's early albums, there was this genius happening at the low end. Awesome! \m/
This is him. And it isn't bad. This is his style of playing. It's actuslly one of my favorite styles. It's basically taking a distorted tone with the drive of a punk rock bassist.
This is like the hand of God playing. If you don't really know who Cliff was, then you'll Have to learn who he was. These bass lines are gold to me, because in the 80's we didn't have this technology. DON'T ANYONE EVER FORGET THE ALMIGHTY CLIFF BURTON!!!

There is so much love in this. I'm (was..) a guitarist, but I respect anyone who can pick up a bass and learn how to play it. Bassists don't get enough love/respect. I'd pick one up myself if my hands get better.
People not realizing that this is how ALL your favorite guitarists and bassists sound like before an intern painstakingly edits their takes to perfection for hours.
If you record with a producer that does their job and you do yours then you do not sound sloppy. It is only since all the digital shit that people really started getting lazy and saying "just fix it in post". Not saying you are wrong just elaborating on what should be done vs. what is now the norm.
I can play it but it's a bit tricky. He's just playing the rhythm muted, but maybe not on the E string so much as the E on the 7th fret of the A string, and hovering over the harmonic while muted. I just play the E string muted and it works out but you better have fast fingers.

I can hear cliffs riffs all day
My favorite first power speed metal bass player since I was in high school (late 1984).
You know it just goes to show how amazing and talented cliff was because normally people don't give a shit about bass players whereas with cliff we have to have isolated tracks just so we can get the full cliff experience like I honestly prefer Orion loud bass version over the original and in my opinion cliff was not only the star of the show but basically was Metallica he taught the others about harmonies had major influence of master of puppets had a powerful stage presence and effortlessly went from just backup rhythm essentially to an amazing solo as seen on orion or like his intro on for whom the bell tolls live 1985 he was a true genius and for those who complain about the sloppiness that's how he liked it because he didn't want everything to be edited and clean like so many bands do he thought it was bs
2:40 this part is the best bass i everheard
Why does the bass sound so badass oml
By far my favorite bass line by Cliff
I wish they'd upload Cliffs isolated bass track for Call of Ktulu.
Long Live Cliff!🤘🏻🔥✨
Amazing to hear just Cliff's bass line on this one of my favorites' track from Metallica. What a sound, wow!!
Reason #32 why I love UA-cam. Just amazing.
Cliff burton was the best bass player. And if you want to shut my down and say there’s more skilled players go ahead but none of them came close to feeling I got from listening to cliffs riffs
You can hear the Stanley Clarke influence in his playing at times here. For all the technical precision of the guitars in Metallica's early albums, there was this genius happening at the low end. Awesome! \m/
Beautiful pure talent!
Cliff's favourite bassist was Geddy Lee. Geddy is also a fav of Steve Harris, Dave Ellefson, Les Claypool, John Myung...
He was a genius ...sadly missed even after all these years 🤘🤘🤘🤘
This is him. And it isn't bad. This is his style of playing. It's actuslly one of my favorite styles. It's basically taking a distorted tone with the drive of a punk rock bassist.
This has been stuck in my head all day
This is like the hand of God playing. If you don't really know who Cliff was, then you'll Have to learn who he was. These bass lines are gold to me, because in the 80's we didn't have this technology. DON'T ANYONE EVER FORGET THE ALMIGHTY CLIFF BURTON!!!
Am i the only man singing the lyrics during the playing?
MY GOD MY EARS HAVE BEEN BLESSED
Cliff, alto nível, simples assim!
I love playing guitar along with this and pretending I'm jamming with Cliff. 🤘🏻
Frank Ferguson I do that but pretend I’m filling in for James lol
I wonder why Cliff never spoke up and said "hey what about me" (in regards to the 3 albulms + 1 EP)
Maybe he knew his talent would one day, sooner or later, be acknowledged. And thats pretty much what happened. Cliff nowadays is regarded as a legend and inspiration, as well as the symbol for bassists worldwide.
I always wondered why you could never really hear cliff on the metallica albums especially as he was talked about like a god.
@monokhem heavily involved with composition & arrangements.
You don't need to hear bass on thrsh records.
@monokhem And how many bass players do you know to have their own bass solo on their bands debute LP (especially PRIOR to Kill ém all)?
Mesmerizing
There is so much love in this. I'm (was..) a guitarist, but I respect anyone who can pick up a bass and learn how to play it. Bassists don't get enough love/respect. I'd pick one up myself if my hands get better.
I could listen to these tracks all day. Oh wait... I do listen to these tracks all day!
This is so good!
Rest easy dear angel. ❤️
in my mind, I hear this when there's an approaching storm...\\m// \\m//
People not realizing that this is how ALL your favorite guitarists and bassists sound like before an intern painstakingly edits their takes to perfection for hours.
If you record with a producer that does their job and you do yours then you do not sound sloppy.
It is only since all the digital shit that people really started getting lazy and saying "just fix it in post".
Not saying you are wrong just elaborating on what should be done vs. what is now the norm.
Definitely one of my favorite 'tallica tunes, just now we can hear the deal underneath....yes!!!
Thanks! This is really helping me learn his bass lines by ear.
If they release all metallica songs (3 first albums) but just bass album, I'd be the first one to buy it
Cliff era foda demais 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Magnífico
That is one hell of a bass sound.
nice sound
R.I.P BEST BASS PLAYER EVER
Lemmy's spiritual son👌❤️
I could listen to this everyday
Love you Cliff. Ray, thank you. XXX 🙏
Dope As Hell
It’s been 12 years since this thing has been uploaded and i still can’t decipher what Cliff plays from 6:22 to the end
i didn’t even notice that until just now
Sounds like a muted G string
If u watch the live version in 1985 in Oakland California you can see he is strumming all of the strings muted.
I can play it but it's a bit tricky. He's just playing the rhythm muted, but maybe not on the E string so much as the E on the 7th fret of the A string, and hovering over the harmonic while muted. I just play the E string muted and it works out but you better have fast fingers.
This is pretty funky.
I feel blessed
so damn rhythimic
Andrew Banuelos rob is more rhytmc
Juan Rezende rob also walks around like a fucking crab on stage. No hate, he’s a really talented bassist but he just misses the “flame” that Cliff and Jason had (yanno, the stage persona)
I don't know why, but the beginning sounds like Negative Creep :D
I thought it sounded like runnin with the devil
Never noticed that
it´s so awesome.
I wouldn't even play bass if it wasn't for Cliff and Steve! They are so epic!
Who kept expecting the riff from running with the devil to come in at the beginning?
Metallica once had a soul as big as the Pacific Ocean, it's name was Cliff Burton 🤘🤘👌
Great
I've been listen this tracks all the morning...
