Thanks for posting this video. I've never seen the Shin Meiwa PS-2 demonstrate its reverse thrust capability so well, before, and that 10-11 second takeoff was a great example of the extreme slow-flight capability of this aircraft. They must have been showing what it could do.

I knew that Japan had some fantastic Sea Planes like the Ruffe And Sairan, but I was not aware they had something this large. I'm guessing it was used for Pilot Recovery and Recon.
The is US-2 is a current type. They fly out of Atsugi near Tokyo every day. There is a deal in the works to sell them to the Indian Navy. I read an article in Defense News about a rescue of 8 fisherman 400km off the coast of Japan a couple of years ago. It's used for Search and Rescue
like the martin mars and cl-415 being used in BC Canada I can see the potential for forest firefighting, I think it would also make a great addition to Canadian search and rescue.

Also very clever your japanese, reversible seaplane from full controlable pitch prop. I never seen US or European seaplane perfrom like this ( may be only I am who not seen like this before )
Love the Shin Maywa US-1 and US-2, also the Beriev Be-200. Can't own or fly a real one, have to settle for flying them in FSX. The Shin Maywa looks like a souped up Martin Marlin ( love that plane, also). The Chinese also have copied it with an exact looking, but bigger plane, AG 600. Still the Shin Maywa rules.
Thanks for posting this highly unusual video. The pilots were probably demonstrating the aircraft to potential buyers or investors, since it showed a great deal of reverse thrust in the middle of the river before going out into the open bay and showing how amazingly quickly it can take off. I would love to have one for fighting fires, as long as someone else pays fo the fuel!
How did the plane reverse ,I didnt see a propeller underneath, cant of Been the plane propellers because they didnt slow down/stop enough to change from reverse to forward?
that reminds he of the Hk-14 Japanese recon/torpedo plan used in ww2. That plan was a bitch to take out, but was massive in size, but i cant believe that they are still using 4 engine plan like that they could at least develop more seaplane. That's one reason i liked the Japanese they where pretty good at Seaplanes even there Zeros had flots but still outperformed american planes
I served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years. Over half of that was in Atsugi, Japan. JMSDF is a great force. Japan is a great country.

後進ができるのは可変ピッチだからですね。
零戦も可変ピッチだったけれど、このUS-2は回転方向は同じでも前方へ風を送れる。
ヘリコプターも可変ですね。
RCだと逆に可変すれば宙返りのままホーバーリングが出来る。

私はUS-1Aの離水を初めて見たのが数年前の大村航空祭でした。
抵抗が半端ない水上から、あんなに軽々ふわりと飛び立てるなんてマジックみたい。

Michael Wittmann these planes were built starting in 2007, so its a fairly new plane
Kawanishi (Seiran builder) reformed into Shin Meiwa after the war ended, they still make flying boats.

綺麗に撮影できていますね。US-2は基地の事務所の窓を閉めているとエンジン音に気づかないくらい静か。US-1Aは窓を閉めていてもうるさいくらい。沖合のシーレーンから離水してるね。この時は輸送艦と護衛艦が来ていたんだ。それにしても航空機との無線交話が入っているのはビデオカメラに混信しているのかな。残念なのは案内のマイクで、まもなく「離陸」しますって言ったところだな。「離水」でしょ〜。と、三年前の映像にコメしてしまった。
別の年で見た記憶あるけどこの岸壁のおくに製造してる

I think the reversible propeller can also create reverse thrust for braking or going backwards.

バックは、プロペラのピッチマイナスに可変したのですか？
飛行機には自動車にある変速機（シフトレバー）が無く、それに値するのがピッチの角度になります。ピッチの角度を大きくすると早く前に進むことができますが、惰性力やトルクが必要になります。これは自動車のシフトアップの条件と同じです。
ピッチを逆にすることによりエンジン回転方向をそのままにして、推力の向きを逆にし着陸時の滑走距離を短くできます。
