    Helped me out a lot! I bought my ThinkPad second hand and I was able to get a password on it. Apparently, after downgrading it (even though I had erased my password) and getting through 1vyrain, the old owner's password was still on it (well, that is more so my assumption). This totally helped getting rid of that and finally getting here! This totally deserves my like.

    Got a used t430 and when I downgraded the BIOS the password came back. Was looking into eeprom programmers when I found this video. Your instructions were clear and worked perfectly first try! Used a pair of pointy tweezers like yours.
    All the best, thanks!

    BIG BIG THANKS!
    I tried this operation once a month ago and failed , the soldering look different on my board and I did not understood the timing clearly.
    Today I gave it another try watching the video more carefully and IT WORKED!
    HOW TO : *No more than 1sec after powering up, do the shortcut and HOLD F1 at the same time* (to enter bios).
    Bios opens almost immediately with a welcome overlay and the greyed unavailable options FINALLY became accessible.
    From there I could follow the resetting process.
    The money I just saved will be used for other parts upgrades.. ips screen/ram/ssd.

    Just wanted to let you know I just tried it with a paperclip, and although there's no soldering joint on the left like you're showing, the traces are the same, so joining at the border tip did the trick.

    this video saved my day, the laptop had the pass configured to access the bios, I mean, the laptop can boot normally, however I couldn't change any configuration on the bios, I followed this tutorial and worked like a charm, but in my case, the hard drive is encrypted with bitlocker, so, after the hard drive was inserted and the laptop booted windows asked me for the recovery key, luckily I have the recovery key on my microsoft account and windows could boot again, my advice, if the hard drive is encrypted with bitlocker would be a good idea to have the recovery key in hand if needed.

    Works great on W530 as well, BIOS chip is at bottom of the board, about below the Intel PCH/right side of mousepad.
    Not those 25L6406 and 25L3206 next to the Intel PCH on top!!!
    Was stupid and tried it first on 25L3206, messed the BIOS (5 beeps) and I had to clone BIOS with CH341/flashrom from another W530.
    Was quite lucky&happy, it didn't destroy Intel PCH....
    Cloned BIOS and shorted bottom pins on right side (Pin5-6) right after splash screen, Bios unlocked!

    It would be really nice if someone has a guide on how to read the passwords on old machines. The case is that at my work they regularly throw out machines and most of them has boot and supervisor password. The boot password I know but not the supervisor. If I can get the supervisor out of an old machine - then I'll have the supervisor for the newer machines and with a new drive and perhaps ram (they some times remove that as well) then those machines are perfectly fit for a second life. Can someone help? For the Time being I have a T41, T420 and T430 at my disposal. A guide on how to read out the password from either would be very nice. It's fine if it involves unsoldering an IC and using an external ROM reader/writer as long as there's no "obvious" things selfexplantory things only people dealing with rom readers know. I can solder very well and to some extend also SMD like the ROM in the T41 (don't know about the others) - but again ROM readers/writers I know nothing about.

      @elektron2kim666 5 років тому

      You are not supposed to know the supervisor password that easily. A secret is that we have 100s of different "security chips" to look into and you could learn 3 or something by really doing something instead of thinking about it.

    Hi, I have the problem that I can't make any changes in the BIOS, as if I were in read-only mode. Even though the password is blank I can't change anything, just view. And I have removed the battery and being incorrect the system time and not being able to put it right by modifying the bios I can not boot the pc, how can I go back to modify the bios?
    Thanks, sorry about my english

      Yes, because there is no user password, but the supervisor password is in place. It only lets you enter in read only mode.

    (I got recently a used T430 and used 1vyrain to unlock the bios.
    I was happily using it for about 2 weeks, until I realized that I don't have Intel VT-x enabled in the bios. I rebooted and enabled it, but when I try to load a VM, I get the same message (VT-x: (disabled in BIOS)). I checked again, and it is effectively disabled!
    Trying to re-enable Intel VT-x, I accidentally enabled/disabled another option (don't remember its name, but it is on the processor configuration). Reboot, only black screen. I thought that removing the bios battery would reset it to its default settings. But after removing/re-inserting it, my T430 only beeps (3-1-1-3), which according to the hardware maintenance manual, it is 'Three short beeps,pause,one short beep,pause,one more short beep,pause,and three short beeps' which corresponds to 'Remove the installed PCI devices', I'm not sure what does that mean, but I did not install any new PCI device!
    I did the classical procedures, removing battery/ram/etc... Nothing helps.)
    Is this video helps in this situation ?

    • @UltimateDIY
      @UltimateDIY  4 роки тому +1

      Sorry, but I have no idea. Try to remove the wifi card, I'm thinking it might be the only removable pci device. You might need to reflash the bios in the end, to get rid of the wrong setting that it does not like. I really don't know an easy way out.
      This video will not help, because it's good just for password removing.
