      No billy just wanted a bunch of percussion. It sounds good with all of these percussionists. Billy and co kicked jimmy because of his BS drug addiction making him completely unreliable and destroying his own health. So billy got these guys because he didnt want to use electric drums and some guy on the kick. Instead billy felt like experimenting and having a number of percussionists like a large band would have. Its honeslty pretty great.

I'm not going to say another comment complaining about cell phones, and all that nostalgic crap, all I'm going to say is that the synergy from young crowds like this, focused in the moment and honests artists is forever gone, and at least is good to have for posterity a visual recording of it.

    for all of you who have NOT been there. it was a very warm and sunny day. it was an open concert, so they played for free for the whole (!) district. the last song they played was sooo unbelieveable loud that it could nauseat you easily... even if you were just in the 40th row. ha ha. it was a totally unknown style of pumpkins music because only the single ava adore had been released so far. - the album was out just some weeks later. so it was a big sursprise to see the pumpkins suddenly in black clothes playing this sorta music. and yeah, I admit, we missed the "mellon collie" side of the pumpkins this eve - but on the other hand we understand that adore had the same intensity like mcis but just on a different more gothic-like level. so "adore" started where the last mcis-song "farewell and goodnight" has ended.

    • @arcane138
      @arcane138 9 років тому +3

      thank you! :) right, the adore tour version of thu the eyes of ruby is real sorcerous 'n fey! adore tour was not dominated by heavy guitars and synthetic sounds. this way Corgan's voice has much more room and the songs sound somehow timeless. because usually you can associate distortion sounds of e-guitars with certain aereas. for example the machina guitar-sound reminds on the new metal and gothic-rock of the end-90s. it was very heavy, dark, but still modern. the siamese dream e-guitar sound is very early 90s, a "creamy" suburb grunge version. of course they STILL always had a very unique e-guitar sound, but in the adore era they have reached a timeless point for magic summer nights just by throwing away the guitars and stereotypes. ;)

    People upset about the drummer but I honestly love how they went with such peculiar setup and they shined. Over the top on the best of ways. It is such a departure from the album. I remember watching this on TV and loving every bit of it

      They had a drum section, an extra percussion section and even a piano player. Totally over the top but it was their best live sound ever.

    Shows just how important a drummer is to a band. Not to say this dude is a bad drummer, but he didn't fit at all. I suspect that's why they changed shit up so much -- the way they played the older songs here as well as the songs of that era in general. Jimmy's playing and Billy's writing was the Pumpkins. Everything else is replaceable.

  • @dashwig
    @dashwig 5 років тому +2

    When this was aired on German TV back then, I was disappointed: I was a stupid teenager thinking "that Nosferatu-look, that sound...WTF happened?".In retrospect Adore & the whole image of the band that came with it was way ahead of it's time. And it was Corgans "fuck off" to that whole "alternative/grunge"-cliche thing.The only bad thing then: no Jimmy.
