Perfect timing :-) I received my version of "Orchard" a couple of days ago after waiting several weeks for the (german) reprint. Although I was pretty tired after work that evening, I tried it out right away and shortly afterwards...I had already played ten rounds without even realizing it. Very relaxing, but nonetheless challenging experience. Thank you for the videos about "Orchard" and "Grove".
I've just started playing this thanks to its recent inclusion on Board Game Arena and I *really* like the spatial maths in it ─ it feels like a game with hexagonal tiles somehow!
0:51 -- Could there possibly be a cuter game setup? No! Love the little colored dice trays. Anyway, watched this video and decided to gift a copy of Grove to my eldest daughter, who lives alone in LA, likes games, is smart, and good at mathy puzzles which she enjoys. Thx!
Just wanted to say thank your for your great game reviews. Recently found you on UA-cam and bought Whirling Witchcraft and Orchard. I happened to see your post for Grove and was able to get in on a late pledge! Love your reviews and interesting and not necessarily main-stream games introduced! Love your side-kick as well. Really enjoy your content!
I love the concept of this! I just got Orchard & really love it. My bestie, her mom & I do “The Friday Score” with Orchard. This will definitely make a fun gift & addition to our weekly gaming.
“Strategerie.” 👍 Also, the dice are red because blood oranges 🍊👌 Can’t wait to get my hands on this! Any suggestions for where to print for quality cardstock?
Nice video, thanks...just finished my PNP copy! I suggest also Raging Bulls by Mark Tuck, a roll&write we really appreciate, despite we are not fans of roll&write!
Hi Tia! Another great video. I am just chilling today (literally, since our heating died a few days ago and it is 60 in the house) and watching some of your solo playthroughs of old games I am getting as add ons to recent KSs (Forage, Last Lighthouse, BS 2024 reprint campaign). 5:24 I just want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. At this point, could you have taken the right most card and placed it close to the bottom right of your tableau? Meaning, the two lemon would go where the two lemon die is, the single orange would go on top of the single orange below it, and the three limes would go on top of the two limes. Is there a tactical disadvantage to this? In your move you ended up taking a squirrel.
Ah, gotem! 🤭 For the cards, I use regular printer paper glued onto cardstock and then use an edge trimmer for the corners. Borrow some dice from Sagrada and some tokens from... I honestly have no idea where (they were spares we had lying around) and bada-bing-bada-boom! ^^
Oooh that's tough... I guess I would probably choose Grove since there's a more clear win/ lose condition, but I do really enjoy the vibe of the original Orchard. Good thing I don't actually have to choose to only keep one in my collection! :D
Just decide what is the best solo scoring option for you If you like the game to be the same every time and only beat your own score go for orchard If you want goals for every game that makes the game different and you know upfront that you want to beat this score right now and maybe in later game the score goal will be entirely different go for the Grove Personally? I hate hate hate beat your own score I think this is the worst way to play solo since once or twice you do it and that it you will then say meh lame game and move on with your life 😁
May I ask about putting the fronts and backs together. Are both sides facing up or are they done one up and the back side down? I just want to make sure I put them together right before I laminate. thanks, great tutorial!
@@andreamarie9526 The copy in the video is a print and play copy I made. The retail version has really nice screen printed dice & great quality cards. :)
The link to the free Print and Play file is in the description, but if you want a published copy, it should be coming to Kickstarter soon via Side Room Games! :)
@@tabletoptokki yay! I'll have to watch kickstarter! at least I have Orchard to keep myself occupied (along with a bunch of others including railroad ink you got me addicted to LOL!)
Probably not necessary. I think many people will be satisfied with just Grove as it offers multiple options for scoring, but I personally enjoy having both in my collection. :)
They must have changed the rules a bit, as the game now only comes with 1 wheelbarrow token. And the basket can only be replaced with the wheelbarrow once per play through.
@@tabletoptokki So far my cozy favorites are Railroad Ink, Cartographers, Orchard & Cascadia. If I've got a few brain cells to spare-Wingspan, Parks (thanks to your videos) Capital Lux 2 are also nice. Looking at Herbaceous, Green Village (based on your top 10), Petrichor.
Another great video, showing the game is more interesting and challenging than I had assumed. Also, it was nice to see high numbers on your dice, for a change. 🙃
Looks better than orchard Orcahrd was beat your own score without any goals or purposes beside the lame challenges from bgg This one at least improve the orchard experience and makes me want to try this version and forget how terrible orchard was before 🤣
@@tabletoptokki Yeah thanks Where is the pnp link again? And is there a way to play without the colored dice? I don't have those colors haha maybe tokens instead?
@@mabos555 Here's the link: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/215930/grove-pnp-edition Another alternative for the dice is just to use random cubes and color/ number them with icons however you wish. I did this for an old copy of Orchard and it worked out great. Tokens could definitely work too though! :)
I love these 2 microgames they are just so cool. They are certainly little keepers in my collection. Perfect solo games.
I agree! So easy to get to the table, even on a quick break! ^^
I love the new mechanics! Can’t wait to give it a try. Great job on the video!
Same; especially the target scoring for the recipe challenge mode! :D
nice playthru! good luck
Thanks!! :)
Another great video Tia. 👍The recipe goals seems to give this more of a Sprawlopolis vibe. Looks interesting.
Yes! I love that the recipes are varied on the backs of the cards similar to Sprawlopolis. Really cool way to change it up from the standard BYOS. ^^

Ah excellent & congrats on your acquisition! I find it rare that I can play a single game in one sitting; mark of an excellent game(s)! 😄
Great video again. I will be printing Grove this afternoon to put together and play! Thanks for the recommendation :)

And yes, that is correct!
