There is something about that Oath rulebook. I enjoy the game, but I feel like I'm doing the combat wrong everytime. It's clumsy and obtuse in an almost magical way, where you can't really state what it is.
Yeah, Root is no easy learn, but the rulebook at least was very clear and precise with which terms mean what. When I tried to read Oath, even as someone who's read a LOT of rulebooks (and believe you me, I've learned games solely from reading Fantasy Flight games in the past), I felt like I was just reading nonsense words the whole time with no idea of how they related to a game. 🥲
Nice review T. I hope you are doing amazing!
Thanks, Ken! Hope you're doing great as well. :)
I would like to see any kind of Expansion set like the previous Rove game
For sure! I'd guess that's something that's in the works. :)
I enjoy this game, only played it solo vut i can not get 50 for a win. 31,25,21,18,38 is as good as i can get!. Unless i am doing something wrong?
Sounds about right to me and 38 is a great score! Definitely a challenging one. :)
Thanks. Trying to figure out whether to purchase this game, and this have me everything I need. Just going to check your videos on the other games in the series.
Awesome, glad it was helpful! Happy gaming! :)
This game is sooo much fun! Most solo games have so many rules and get dry..this is cool!
Yeah, absolutely!!! Very much still a fave of mine. ^^
👍👍👍🐇
😁🐰
Nice shout out to Mr. Jack Pocket. Really enjoy it.
Yeah, def! One of my all-time fave 2-player games. ^^
Nice quick rundown. I hope I can get a copy of Cat-a-comb. 😊
Fingers crossed for ya! 😊
Hi Tia! Love hearing about all these games that I've never heard about and also hearing your honest reviews. There was a lot of hype around Shark vs Octopus, so good to hear a different take. I'm looking into Awaken the Ancients now!
Yeah, I have a bad pokerface, especially when it comes to games that miss the mark for me, but glad to hear it's helpful! Hope you get to try Awaken the Ancients soon! 😁
I saw your quote on the 52 Realms: Adventures Kickstarter campaign - any other thoughts from your initial plays? I'm spoiled by the massive amount of content from Dungeon Pages, Dangerous Space, and now Power Creep (4 heroes x 4 locations for $3, at a minimum), so 52 Realms (4 heroes x 2 locations for $6) seems lite.
Very fair! I can't really speak to the replayability of other maps/characters since the demo files I got only have one location and one character, but I would say there's quite a bit of replayability just based on the variety/order of card distribution in each playthrough. This does also mean that there can be quite a bit of swingyness/luck with each playthrough, but it's a really quick play as far as dungeon crawlers go, so I guess it'd be based on personal preference! Hope this helps ^^
Hi there! Recent subscriber. After watching other playthroughs of The Cursed Castle, I just wanted to warn you that you misinterpreted the rules in a way others also did (which probably speaks to the rulebook not being too clear in that regard), which is: you don't always get a cube when you place a die on the ability cards, you only get it when the printed value is matched. The opposite is true, you always activate the ability on the right side. Hope it'll help future viewers of the video that might get confused by every other playthrough doing it in a different way! :)
Thanks for the clarification! And for folks who may be worried about the rule book fidelity-- I was working with the first-draft prototype rules, so I believe they should be more clear for the final version. :)
I keep original rules if it was an important and the English rules I print but if it is multiple separate rule books I pitch them. If all together like Haba just deal with it.
Very fair-- sounds like we have a similar approach! 🤗
Hi, have you stayed playing Sweetlands? Do you have any further insights? Thanks
Classic Twitch title! 😆😆😆
🙆🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️
Thank you for the play-through! About how much table space does a solo game take up in your experience? I have a 2x4 ft. folding table I use for games.
That's about the size of the table I use gor streaming! It's a little tight, but you should be good! 😊
Thank you! @@tabletoptokki
Skyteam had the most amazing packaging ever. There was "some" assembly required when making the cockpit but not bad at all. I love how they put all the advanced and expert modules under the cardboard insert. They also packaged components in paper baggies too. So well thought out.
Very much agree!!! Clearly a lot of thought & care went into the box/insert-- really sets the bar! 😊
dunno about the gameplay it-self .. but when it comes to cuteness. .. seems like Mandora Fever wins :)
Ahaha, very fair! Definitely a lot of adorableness in these little boxes. 😁
I got to say Roll and Write games were a genre that I didn’t really pursue until about a year ago when I started getting some in PNP form. This Sunshine Farmer looks like it could be a good purchase. 👍 And thanks for your input awhile back on Orleans vs Concordia. Going with Concordia after watching a bunch of online gameplay. I just like the mechanics a lot better.
Eyyy, awesome to hear about Concordia! And yeah, roll & writes, esp some of the cool ones on the PnP scene, are really dope. Hope you'll get to try Sunshine Farmer sometime soon! ^^
This game is now a special early Black Friday deal on Miniature Market’s website. I saw it pop up and thought “I’ve seen this game before! I need to go tell everyone in the comments!”
Isn’t it spelled mackerel? 🤔😄 I also love word games, so I think I will be picking this one up!
Omg you're probably right. Give me ALL the negative points! 😂😂😂 But glad to hear & hope you enjoy it as much as I have been!!! Feel free to check back in when you get a copy & let me know how your first play goes! ^^
Not a roll and write game, but on the lines of this is “Paperback” by the guy who made Fugitive (you’re probably all over this). I kind of like Paperback a little better. However. What are the letters made of; plastic or cardboard?
Wood, actually! 😊 And yeah, for sure! Have you also played Hardback by chance?? ^^
@ Wood? Now that is pretty cool. Definitely better than cardboard. And no I didn’t know about Hardback. I pulled up a quick video on it, and that’s going right on the Christmas wish list. Appreciate the tip!
Yeahhh, I always tell people Paperback is a word game with deckbuilding, but Hardback is a deckbuilding game about words. e.g. I played Hardback in German once against a native speaker and won to prove a point that the game is more about deck synergy than having a big vocabulary. 😂
@ Sweet. Looking forward to it. 👍
👍
🐇🐰🐇🐰
I love the fridge collection! Very fun 2 player games. My fav is cat a combs for sure!
Ahhh, that's awesome to hear! Hoping to try them all out today~~~ :D
@ would love to see a play through and your thoughts after playing them! :)
Will def give my thoughts in the next Monthly Plays vid! ^^
Just curious, do you include the set up and tear down time in your game play time?
Great question-- I don't! :)
I have (obviously) never played Finca except on BGA because it's *new* so I had no idea this was any kind of reprint or whatever. But it totally IS straight forward and that means I figured out how to play without reading the rules 🤣
Helllllllllll yeah! haha I wonder if BGA has the updated art or will update it... 🤔
Windmill valley is a great solo too
Ahhhh, I have to get my own copy and try it then for sure!!! 🌷
Only 53 plays. You slacker. (My plays for 2024. Lets see. Hmm mm hmm. Hmm. Shoe off. Hmm mm. This little piggy. Carry the one. 23. Ugh oh. ) So two things. Your opinion on Orlean? I’ve been kicking it around and I see dlp games are offering it as an anniversary edition now. Pricey but all inclusive, deluxe tokens plus solo. Secondly. Kinda quietly broke that 6k mark, ehh? Congrats. 🎉
Ikr? I'm basically just a straight up fraud. 😔 I've only played the co-op for Orleans. A bit dry, but solid as far as bag builders go. If you can snag a bundle for a deal, I'd say go for it unless you have an abundance of bag builders. And yeah. guess so! haha 😅 Oct was a crazy month~~~
@ Fraud. Lol. I’m always in awe of how many plays you get in. Ok. Soooo. Orleans or Concordia. Or neither.
@@StKnightis64 Ooooh, I do love Concordia, although it fills less of a nieche mechanically than Orleans does. So, I guess it depends on how high of a priority that is for ya. :x
@ Love? Phew. That’s a strong emotion. Hmmm. Now you’re making it tough. Let’s see. I love beer and wings. 🤤 Mechanically, I really enjoy. Umm. The way a clock works. Yeah. A clock. What time is it? I’m going out for some beer and wings. Later Appreciate the input. Enjoy the weekend!
Tango has been on my radar for a bit now, and you've just made me more excited for it!! How close are you to playing through all of your games this year?
Ahhh, hope you get a copy/get to play it soon!!! It's really an awesome one. :) The only games I have left on my SOS are 3 of the 4 games I got in my Japan order yester-yesterday, but hoping to get at least one or more played tonight! ^^
@@tabletoptokki wow, that's amazing!
I have seen couple of playtroughts and i am currious. If you can ignore "ports connection" and that strategy would be also viable. It seems like game is pushhing you into it and so everyone did that because 40 negative points seems like a lot. Replayability is mentioned a lot, but it feels vierd to be "pushed" into something. If you want to connect those ports, you need to play specific actions a lot and that means you can't play something else and so replayeablity is lower. how do you feel about that. I think also different maps could be cool, if it did not breake the game.
Very fair question! I have had some playthroughs where I focused on other strategies vs prioritizing ports and it didn't affect final scoring too drastically. If you dont get even /one/ port, it could be really detrimental, but naturally through expanding, even if you focus on one territory, it'd be difficult not to. I think it's more of a balancing mechanic to allow diversity in replayability, otherwise someone focusing on one region would probably run away with a really succinct engine. Hope this helps! 😊
Best playthrough of this game I’ve seen. Thank you!
Ahh, thanks so much!!! Happy gaming~~~ 🥂
Never heard of wizards cup but it looks interesting as well!
Yeah, I hadn't either til right before the order! Really exited to give it a go! 😁
The last dungeon games look so fun to me. Purple moose has a playthrough of the non dice one as well and I’d kill for a translated version
Ahhh, good to know! And yeah, unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see an English version, but I'll def be sharing the labeled cards on the community Discord once I get them made up! 😊
The Cardboard East youtube channel has talked about how to buy games from Japan. He may have made multiple videos on the topic. I glanced through and found this one from a year ago: ua-cam.com/video/GbLJXpNOFWE/v-deo.html
Awesome-- thank you so much for this!!! Will definitely be checking it out. ^^
looks like a lot of fun!
Yeah, absolutely! Another great title from Goblin Hour Games!!! ^^
I put mine in GoodNotes.
Great video even if I am a bit late to the party. You hit the nail on the head for Cascadia and your two recommendations for my wife and I, Cascadia is just to open and free, I don't feel like I ever have hard choices just a bunch of good choices to sift through, whereas Calico and Harmonies create such difficult and delicious choices.
Eyy, glad you were able to make it to the party regardless, haha! And glad to hear y'all enjoy Calico and Harmonies as well-- both super great titles. 😁
You are talking a lot about using cubes for resources, and you talk about that as being innovative. Have you never played Terraforming Mars? The whole resource part of the player boards are lifted straight from that game. There are also other similarities to Terraforming Mars, and since you like Sweet Lands you really should give it a go. Terraforming Mars is not as good looking of a game, but I think the complexity is a little lower.
Ah, very true! I rarely ever play, so it didn't really come to mind. Definitely wish more games adopted similar methods for tracking resources! Do you have a preference between the OG TM or Ares/other TM titles/expansion content? :)
@@tabletoptokki Agreed! It's a very convenient way to handle resources. I have the TM big box and all the maps etc. I really prefer it to Ares. I want the meatier type of games. But I also prefer it with Prelude added to get the players going faster. I also like Ark Nova and Sweet Lands seems to incorporate things from both games :)
Ooh, good to know about Prelude! I haven't had the pleasure of trying it, but it def sounds like a welcome addition! And definitely seems like this would be right up your alley-- hope you enjoy it as much as I have! 😁
@@tabletoptokki Yeah, Prelude looks like a lot of money for what is basically a small deck of cards. But it both speeds up the game, and gives the players a more asymmetric start. It is the only expansion that we always play with. I am sure that I will enjoy Sweet Lands. It has many mechanics that I like :)
How did you find the character board? Does it sit flat throughout the game? The kickstarter went live a few days ago and a lot of people are concerned that it won’t lay flat because it’s two pieces.
In the rules there is a clip shown that will be included in the final version! Even without this clip, I found it to be perfectly functional in the prototype with no hassle or annoyance while playing. :)
@ I don’t think the clip is being included anymore, as I’ve seen comments asking about one and the creators replying that they decided it wasn’t necessary, so it’s good that the board works fine without one.
Ah, good to know! And yeah, had no issues, so makes sense they decided it wasn't necessary. :)
This looks great! Reminds me a bit of Witchcraft, trying to complete missions that sometimes feel justttt out of reach. Great win!
Yeah, definitely! And the playtime and ease of learning for this one is an A+++ 😁
Nice one, i play Cursed!? every day, but this new one seems even cooler, i'm very excited.
Yeah, both great in their own right! Cursed!? is so snappy & fun push-your-luck, while this one provides a decent amount of thinkiness and clever card management. 😁
@@tabletoptokki Exactly and you can play it in between, I love that a lot because a lot of games these days tie you down for the long term, this one is different and that's a good thing.
@@Papierzeit Couldn't agree more! I need games that work with my life-- not demand that I set aside time in my schedule just to play them. :p
I'm going to keep an eye on the Goblin Hour page for a pre-order of this. I recently got a copy of Dust Runner (Yay! I like Fury Road a lot) and I'm already craving more goodness in a tin. Gamma Guild's mechanics seem to do a good job of expressing the theming. I like feeling like I'm actually doing the thing a game tells me I'm doing within its actions. I usually get bored with mechanics that just have theming painted on, but I don't think we are looking at that here.
Hey there, Just wanted to say thanks for noticing that I tried with the theme on this one. Majority of the quest flavor text and traits revolve around the quest theme - for example there is a hostage quest that is a lower level the more turns that are left, so if you do it early enough it can be completed by just one member, while if you tackle it while your nearly out of turns its a higher level. The "I'm da strongest!" quest flavor text says it's just some mountain orc that wondered down into a village and wanted to prove they are the strongest around and will leave peacefully if proven otherwise, that one you must send only strength guild members. Anyhow cheers I'm working hard to get it up for crowd sale in the coming week or so.
Eyyy, congrats on the new addition to your collection & definitely agree with you there! It's crazy how much you really feel like you're sending out guild members to tackle various quests and trying to get everyone to play to their strengths! Lots of cool interactions between quests and their text/abilities too! :D
Love how much thought you put into this aspect of the game and how well it marries with the idea of creating unique puzzles and challenges that vary for each playthrough! Love the idea of the rat horde too, dwindling down as you complete more and more quests. 😁
Nice play through Tia. Tbh, a lot of these tin mint games I think are gimmicks, and the tins should be left for tasty candy’s. And maybe an inflatable rubber ducky pool float in case you’re caught in a devastating flood unawares. This one I really like. A solid game, enough components and just the right amount of “thinky”. Now I just got to try not to eat it or mix it up with my other tin if I get caught in a flood. PS I think you were interested in “Dragons of Etchinstone”. If so, it’s coming to Gamefound next spring in a PVC printing akin to Palm Island. Later!
Ahaha, fair! And yeah, lotsa punch in this tin-- hope you can get a copy & try it for yourself soon! 😁 I LOVE Dragons of Etchinstone-- have the base game from The Game Crafter & anxiously anticipating what the new edition will bring to the table-- er, hand. 😉
@@tabletoptokki Whaaaaat. You have Dragons of Etchinstone, and no Solo Party? 🙀🙊🧑🚀 Ugh. I felt that one in the spleen. Or maybe it was the appendix. Kind of a jumble these days. You’re busy. Np 😉
@@StKnightis64 Haha, I just got it right before they announced the new edition, so I'd hate to make a whole-ass video and then just have it be outdated in less than a year. 🥲
@@tabletoptokki Yeah, valid point. A whole ass video. Boy, that’s ripe for a punchline. Enjoy the weekend.
@@StKnightis64 LMAO guess that'd be on the OF then. 😂
Great Playthrough and nice win, right down to the wire! If anyone has any questions on the game I'm happy to answer them. Spent a lot of time on this one, I'm happy to see it played and cant wait for everyone to get their hands on it. Cheers all.
Thanks, it was definitely a close one! Time well spent--2/2 on game designs so far & I absolutely can't wait to see any future designs!!! 🥳🎉
You are awesome!!!
Right back atcha!!! :D
Thx for run through Do you know where one can buy a physical copy of Galdors Grip?
There was a forum on BGG talking about it getting picked up by a publisher, but I am not seeing it now. Not sure that you can purchase physical copies at this time or if there will be updates, but here's to hoping! 🤞🏻
@@tabletoptokki thx
I love the New scoring for the AI Territories. It is so much easier and fairer and it’s made me want to dust off my original game and start playing it again.
Could not agree more! It's a real game changer, for sure!!! ^^
I was hoping if you could clarify something for me please because I can’t find a pdf as yet for the new solo rules and I’m picking it up watching videos like yours When scoring the territories in the new rules is the only difference between standard and easy, the three-point card which shows two territories is now a two-point card . Do all the other territory cards -1 point as well? Hopefully that made sense and thanks in advance.
@@joeymoses3359 Yes, that is correct! For Easy mode, 2 tt = 2 pts, 3 tt = 2 pts, & 4 tt = 1 pt. Hope this helps! ^^
The PNP was released today on PNP Arcade (Oct 18th).
🎉🎉🎉
This does look like a cool puzzle. I do appreciate the input concerning “replay ability”. Kwanchai Moriya? Gth out! Now that’s pretty cool. I’d like to buy at least one of his prints for my music room. Brewing up anything for a Halloween segment? Horrified or Ghost Story solo?
Yeah, definitely! I'm long overdue for ordering some prints, but unfortunately I'm also very out of wall space at my current place. 😅 And nothing in particular-- my schedule has been a bit of a good ol' cf lately, but I do have a super exciting preview that should be up soon… 🙆🏻♀️
@@tabletoptokki Well, looking 👀 forward to that. Enjoy the weekend.
Me too! Especially the part where I don't have to edit and the video is just DONE. 😂 Have a great one as always, Ken~~~
As a person who makes and maintains his own terrariums this looks sooo good!
Sounds like a perfect fit! And that's mega cool-- is it difficult to do? I feel like I would not be able to keep up with it. 😅
@@tabletoptokki it’s one of those hobbies that can become as difficult as you want it to be! Super easy to do a mason jar on a windowsill to see if you like it though! Lots of tutorials on UA-cam too! :)

I used to have a small succulent garden, but ended up giving it to a friend because taking care of living things stresses me out...😅 But maybe it's time to turn a new leaf and give it another go! Thanks for the info! 🤗
