@@LuciensMusic I owned a Spruce GS Mini years ago and tuned it D Standard and it played like a dream. Still to this day regret selling it. No other GS Mini, or even full size has been able to keep tuning as good as that first GS Mini I bought years ago.
@@iRemainNamelessi play my 2016 koa in d standard and it’s my main guitar for gigging, busking, chilling on the couch, you name it. i don’t know if i ever need another guitar for any live purposes. 🙃 i got it in early 2024 after a long odyssey of buying and selling again during my search for the perfect guitar for me. right now i play it with 80/20 elixir light hd, so thinner bottom, thicker highs to balance out the heavy bass of the guitar and that’s to me the perfect match with my particular instrument. and the standard gigbag is super nice, i‘m never worried about my lil baby at all.
I went yesterday to get a Taylor mini I´ve been drooling for, for about 2 months, I was decided for a Koa because they look gorgeous, but i played this rosewood one ... I loved the sound better, so I got the Rosewood one instead. It resonates a lot more, has great treble and a very pleasing bass and was a bit cheaper. The tuner was a pleasant surprise, though I really don´t like the kind of batteries it uses but that´s just me being picky. I thought I would only be able to tune it on standard tuning, but really you can give it whatever tunning you want, duh! anyways, it´s a great guitar, very comfortable to play.
the plus versions are really worth it, this one has so much more balance compared to the normal rosewood, which lacks a bit of bass, and the Koa plus also is less dark than the Koa, I am getting one of these two
I have one of these on order presently. I had a mini (sapele/spruce) 12 years ago and could not get used to the shorter scale and lack of a cutaway. Now, after two hand surgeries and arthritis (sucks getting old) the short scale feels really nice. I find myself grabbing my GF's GS Mini over my 815ce and other full size acoustics these days. The spruce/rosewood is the most winning tone wood combo in history IMHO, and coupled with the genius ES2 system (hated the ES1...that mag pup 😩) made the decision a no-brainer. Can't wait to get her! Oh, and thanks for pointing out the size of the the sound hole. I had never noticed how huge it is in relation to the small size of the GS. I've always been amazed at just how loud the GS mini is when jamming with musicians with full size guitars. The mini always, astonishingly, cuts through with no problem.
Just ordered mine from guitar center. Will pick it up next week. Was surprised how small it was but how big was the sound. Originally ordered the koa but was underwhelmed by the cheap looking dark flat finish. Guess I’m old school and need that glossy rosewood look

It sounds amazing. I am actually looking into getting a GS mini and/or a Baby Taylor. What would you recommend? I want to be able to travel with it, have it at the office and to pass down to my kids. When would be the best time to get one or both?
I have been playing for a year. I have the Acadamy 12e. I love it. It's just the right size for learning. Has the electronics so I can plug it in when I go to the local bar and play on open mic night. Its been a fantastic guitar for me.
What kind of music do you think you will play? If finger style, get an Academy 12, a smaller concert size…. if you think you will play folk / country / rock, strumming big first position chords, get an Academy 10, a big dreadnought… If not sure, or want versatility to play a little of everything, get a 114 grand auditorium.
very close in sound! The GSmini sounded like it had a moment off tune, something I see on mine when working high-up the neck, but not down where he was playing. The other one sounded somewhat richer, but very similar. I do love my mini--not the spruce top, all rosewood. Ive wanted to try something with the more traditional bracing. Tempting... :)

When you do these GS Mini videos, you should let people know that the back and sides of these guitars are poplar and the venners of other woods are aesthetic only. The only real difference in sounds come from the solid soundboard.
I am always interested in the difference between gloss and satin tops. Maybe it is what I am accustomed to, but the gloss tops seem to be more controled/ compressed and sound a bit more pleasant to the ear. Obviously sound and tone is subjective…even for myself, the same guitars sound different on different days… not sure if this is because of the varying humidity levels which is a contributing factor as well the acoustics of a room one is playing in and of course the microphones one is using if recording. Satin tops are more open, but they seem to be uncontained and flat. I have heard that overtime that when satin tops become more open, this does not make for a necessarily more pleasant sounding guitar.. Gloss tops seem to have a little more protection from scratching and micro dents… I’m not sold on satin tops yet, but prefer the gloss tops. I can see how it might be cheaper for companies to offer Satin tops. I’m glad that Taylor’s offers this model in a gloss top. Thank you both for all your wonderful reviews on guitars on Taylor and Martin and brands.
Nice vid and nice playing, Chris. I appreciate your input on using the ES2. I will try fine-tuning my Treb and Bass on my Koa plus. It’s early but I haven’t been able to dial in a plugged in sound that I like…BTW, the Koa Plus has a satin finish, not gloss. It’s all good though. Thank you! 😀

I have had several GS mini guitars. The only thing i didn't like was the short scale. It didnt hold half step tuning very well. Other than that its a great guitar.👍

@kazzz2765 My small Blackbird carbon fiber guitar is tuned full step down. When I go to drop D, the string becomes C#. It holds good. I have to play lighter on the strings because it's loose and can rattle a bit. My Blackbird carbon fiber Super OM is 25 scale. It holds full step and drop C# good. But I have to play softer. I have watched Mike Dawes, and he goes to B# on the low E. But volume sounds very low.I think the is Scale is 25.5. But he does a tuning that isn't standard.

$1,200 for that? That’s quite a bit of an up charge. You can get a Taylor 214ce for about the same price and it’s a full size guitar. The price to value ratio doesn’t make sense seeing as you can get a better option for the same price.
Nice. Sounds good. One wouldn't expect too much variance in tone across the GS-Mini line because they are all layered back and sides but some models do actually sound different and not just those with different top woods but some with the same top wood but with different layered back and side wood do sound slightly different. Is strange but true. The Rosewood model GS-mini IMO has one of the better tones across the GS-Mini line. BTW the Koa Plus is not gloss anywhere, its fully satin. This gloss Rosewood looks really nice and is the first gloss anything in GS-Mini line. Uhg, another one to the collection! Congrats on marriage Cooper, start hiding your guitars! Hehe!
@@AlamoMusic Normally on acoustics I prefer satin vs gloss, especially if its thick looking gloss I feel it cheapens the appearance and probably impacts resonation, but some gloss does look good and Taylor uses their micro thin gloss coating so less an issue. I like the GS-Mini-e Koa Plus satin but it probably would look sweet gloss. So are you also going to do a video on the new Caramel Burst GS-Mini?
What are we to glean from the fact that you're showcasing a product with an active electronic pickup system that you describe in detail and also point out is the same system installed in your high end models, yet you choose not to demo for potential customers to hear?
