@@CaprizonicaSuch a loss. I still find it kinda beautiful that they found Naya on Cory's anniversary. Like, he helped bring her home.

Santana calling out Will was spot on, he wasn't taking the lesson seriously and was stereotyping the Latin culture in that song. But seriously tho, she and Ricky Martin had a lot of chemistry. I liked their version of La Isla Bonita more than the original. Mercedes was singing a Gloria Estefan song btw but I did wish they had covered Selena. For being an episode covering Spanish songs, it wasn't taken full advantage of. Oh and Roz's EPIC roast to Sue, too hilarious!

Oh god, I just remembered today is 3 years since the finally found our angel Naya Rivera and on Cory's anniversary to boost, like he finally brought her home to her family to rest in peace after a week frantic search. Very few deaths hit me as hard as Naya's. It was just so awful and random and unfair. Will never forget her mother's breakdown by the lake's edge and the Glee cast all holding hands waiting for her. Rest in peace, sweet angel Naya! Rest in peace Cory. 😭😞

But...talking about the episode... I completely agree with what Santana says to Will. He is stereotyping too much the latin culture. And I think that since they are doing a spanish week songs, the glee club should sing songs full spanish, and not mixed with english.

go to mexico and you will see plenty of performers dressed like that...But yeah....the songs should be spanish I agree!

If they did fully Spanish songs, it'd be
      A) harder for the cast to perform
      B) difficult to sell covers since non-Spanish population wouldn't be able to truly appreciate and be able to sing along. Sure Despacito became a global hit for some reason but that was in today's day and age, not 10 years ago and also for every Despacito, there would be so many non-English songs that remain unknown to the rest of the world

It was Gloria Estefan "I Don't Want to Lose You Now." that Mercedes was singing.

One thing that's always annoyed me in this episode is in season one when Will goes to Sue's house, he appears to speak Spanish fluently with her maid, but in this episode he suddenly doesn't understand a word of it? I know you can't expect consistency from shows like this, but that's a little to glaring to ignore.

I really love the dynamic of this episode where Will is the "villain". He was a train wreck here but I'm glad he found his way.

Ahh this episode, I remember loving seeing Ricky Martin on the show but so many of the choices they made for this episode are still so... let's say odd. Like how he's supposed to be the son of Chilean parents and yet sounds very much Puerto Rican (I'm Chilean btw) Also, and this might just not be a south american thing but I've never heard anyone use "duende" (which are more like gnomes or fairies) in the way they do here. But by far the weirdest one for me was having Santana sing a song by Madonna when it was her turn to showcase Latin American culture? Like, couldn't they get a song by Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Selena, Gloria Estefan? The song Mercedes sang was hers so...
Wow that was a rant haha, sorry about that.
    Great reaction as usual!

    I enjoyed Naya Rivera.
Similar to Zendaya & Christina Aguilera, she's mixed (African-American, German, and Puerto Rican). She'd rather preferred to be called Afro-Latinx. She didn't speak Spanish as a child but learned later.
My personal opinion, speaking full Spanish wasn't the point, actually tone deaf. It was to know that there were many of Spanish descent wrote or performed a variety of songs in English/Spanish. I think it's stereotyping to assume only able to sing certain songs because are Spanish.
I met a stranger on a commuter train. We had a most interesting conversation. Back in the days of the iPod, I was listening to an album 'The Songs of West Side Story' specifically the song "A Boy Like That". I admit the headphones were loud. She overheard & got excited. First, tried to speak to me in Spanish. I had to stop her as know very little. We both were shocked. She for me listening to a song in mixed Spanish, and I as she was a red head, fair white skin with freckles.
Through conversation she's Puerto Rican born & raised. Because of her complexion many don't think she's Puerta Rican. Genetics pool one set of great-grandparents was Irish & it passed down. I had a maternal Irish great-grandmother and a paternal great-great-grandmother. Both of us had Irish in us. I also had a maternal Cherokee great-grandfather.
She talked to me about it was frustrating many assumed she was 'just' white. Both her parents were Spanish & appearance typical. She laughed when told her assumed was a cousin, many don't realize I could have white cousins. Now here is someone spoke fluent Spanish but assumed didn't. Meanwhile, Selena fans only knew her to sing only Spanish songs. Although 3rd generation Mexican, was not a fluent Spanish speaker for most of her life. She didn't speak it as a child/teenager.
As for the song, all the West Side Story songs were graciously allowed to be rearranged with various artists for a charity fund raiser. Aretha Franklin, Michael McDonald, Little Richard, Kenny Loggins & others performed the songs. (Look it up it's on the site)
Significant about this album, 'A Boy Like That' was performed by Selena. It was her last recording as she was murdered a couple weeks after. The album was released posthumously.

Naya Rivera actually didn't even speak Spanish so I feel like this episode was a bit of a wasted opportunity ngl. Santana taking Spanish because she wanted to learn about her culture would've been a great plotline. Also funny how the "authentic" Latin performance was Madonna lol. This could've been a great episode on cultural appropriation but it kinda has mixed messages to me.

yes she did, but she didn't grow up speaking spanish, she learned it as an adult, so it wasn't very good. she understood it perfectly, her pronounciation just wasn't so good
