    Took me long enough to find time to listen to this. Currently I’m sitting with my mom who is 93. We are in the hospice floor. And I know hearing is one of the last senses to go. I have shared so much of Fr Rohr with her I knew your familiar voice will bring her some peace. And your interview is bringing me peace. God bless you Fr Rohr. You are a brilliant delight. Both of you.

    Thank you for reminding me how much energy it takes to seek out and hold the negative. Even though I've heard it from various sources over 20 years there just seems to be so many layers and generations holding onto the more familiar negative or non-truth.
    Something I've noticed recently is that all aspects of truth are stable; they never get higher or lower, never need energy or have to be chased. Anything untrue, unnecessary, is constantly shifting (shifty) and keeps one on edge; guessing and distracted.
    Thank you for sharing Richard with us!! 💞💞💞🙏💪

    "Know thy self." Few of us have a clue about why we see what we see or why we do what we do. Father Rohr is a great guide inward. We see in part. We know in part. And we do not realize just how flawed or incomplete our perception is. The ego is a very deceptive creature. ❤🙏

      What a wonderful concept, isn't it? Here is the parable of the raft from the Alagaddupama Sutta, a discourse in the Pali Canon.
      The Buddha tells the story of a man who comes across a great expanse of water, with the near shore representing danger and the far shore representing safety. The man gathers branches, leaves, and grass to create a raft, which he uses to safely cross the water. Once he reaches the far shore, he wonders if he should carry the raft with him, as it was helpful in crossing the water. The Buddha then advises that it would be unwise to carry the raft, as it has served its purpose and is no longer needed. In the same way, the Buddha's teachings (the Dharma) are like a raft, meant to be used to cross the river of suffering (samsara) and reach the shore of enlightenment (nirvana). Once enlightenment is attained, the teachings should not be clung to, just like the man should not cling to the raft.

    On the subject of psychedelics - it seems to me that most people who land in or at least consider that option (not all) lack the apparatus or access to it to experience the potential experience.
    Those who have terrible results (bad trips) may simply be examples of just how far away from the truth of God we can get. The veils, the layering, from countless generations misapprehending the reality of relationship and oneness.
    Every day most of us are working with a fraction of our potential, and I don't simply mean the brain or practical intelligence.
    If I am colour blind, the only way I'll ever see red in it's fullness is by intervention, otherwise it just doesn't exist for me. Red is for those who are blessed with the right equipment.
    If psychedelics can kickstart these latent abilities, help our systems to remember their options, I wish anyone the chance to do so in a safe and respectful way.

    What do you have to say about hallucinogens to my beautiful son who has schizophrenia and thinks only mushrooms and lsd will 'cure' and save him? I love Richard Rohr and he's been invaluable to my formation as a human.

    • @TheSacredSpeaks
      @TheSacredSpeaks  Рік тому +2

      Thank you for sharing your concern for your son, and I appreciate your love for Richard Rohr's teachings. It's clear you care deeply about your son's well-being.
      Entheogens, such as psilocybin mushrooms and LSD, have shown potential in some research studies for treating various mental health conditions. However, these studies are still in their early stages, and the effects of these substances can vary significantly between individuals. In the case of someone with schizophrenia, using entheogens could potentially exacerbate symptoms or trigger psychotic episodes, making it crucial to approach this subject with caution.
      From an ethical standpoint, it's important to prioritize your son's safety and well-being. Encourage open communication with him about his thoughts and feelings, and seek professional guidance to ensure he receives the best possible care. Check out the site www.maps.org for more information and research...also, you may find opportunities to connect with a mental health provider who is aware and trained in the clinical use of entheogens.
      In the meantime, continue supporting your son with love and understanding, and consider exploring other therapeutic approaches, such as talk therapy, support groups, or alternative treatments, in consultation with mental health professionals. The journey towards mental health and healing is often complex and requires patience, empathy, and a strong support system.
      Wishing you and your son the best on your journey towards healing and well-being.

    I would call this click bait because there was no substantial discussion of the things listed in your title; ie,, Universal Christ, ego development, forgiveness or non dual consciousness. Perhaps a slight nod to those topics indirectly, or a surface mention; but nothing substantial. Mostly it was an hour of shooting the breeze with Richard, as he meandered along his train track of thoughts; and the two of you engaged in your mutual admiration society. Better to have titled this "Shooting the breeze with Richard"; than to "misrepresent content" with "click bait title." Just an FYI for future reference. Nothing truly interesting here; just regrettably wasted time.

If non-dual consciousness or ego development are both of interest to you, I suggest checking out Bernardo Kastrup's work (mind-blowing stuff), Murray Stein, or other interviews with Richard. As for my project, I will keep your feedback in mind when writing the copy for the show notes. You are correct though, I do admire Richard. What an amazing person! You seem to be a nice enough soul personally. :>) So if you're ever interested in hearing a 'different view' of 'Christ Consciousness', I would suggest an in depth video by Ex-New Age Guru Steven Bancarz debunking the Universal Christ, (as presented by Richard Rohr) I have at least invested in hearing both sides of the issue, and perhaps you would like to consider doing the same. Humans discover many true things about the "4D" universe, but what they WANT to know further about it always dwarfs prior discoveries. Actually, it was only in my own life that humans discovered which particle bestowed upon all the others mass. It was only in my own life when MANY humans began to ponder that empty space is not empty...that it's filled with gluons, or maybe Calabi-Yao manifolds. The not-empty-space-thing is one of those new discoveries that makes you wonder how many of our current mental constructs aren't the real deal. Obviously current media can make humans believe anything. That our present inflation's due to a demand problem, not supply (and hiking interest rates'll correct things). That Russia's SMO was unprovoked. That you should only worry about foreign labs when the country's suddenly on your "bad side" [and then start worrying about yours too!]. Perceptions are so much in flux these days that at a point late in life I could see the postmondernists hadn't gone far enough. So I looked up "post-postmodernism." And...it was there! But you can't always believe everyone covered by Wikipedia has her/his politics updated to the minute.
    So many "belief clusters" on this issue or that issue (and, yes, on the Rohr fb page non dualism is flung around like it's the be all and end all). People will say [in some truth] David throws up his hands and resorts to "myth"; and I will admit that "some standing here who will not taste of death" sounds like it was added in. But then Matthew 10:28 unfortunately sounds to me real plausible right about now [I mean if you get to return and return first]...and in agreement with a piece I found entitled "Beyond Good and Evil: The Complex Moral System of Tolkien’s Middle-earth"
    Anyway, the "containers," looks to me, are never commensurate with their ideal purpose...as decent enough first stages to help one go the full distance that one WILL go eventually. The mushrooms open many doors, but there's always the question re if ALL of'em are really opened. Bump into enough reality down here, and there are so many to pray for you might as well go with prayer full time.

    • @TheSacredSpeaks
      @TheSacredSpeaks  Рік тому

      Thank you for sharing your thought-provoking comments. It's clear that you're deeply engaged in the exploration of our understanding of the universe, human perception, and the various "belief clusters" that exist in our world.
      You bring up some interesting points about the ever-evolving nature of human knowledge, especially in regards to scientific discoveries and shifting perceptions. Indeed, the vastness of what we have yet to understand often eclipses what we currently know. As we delve deeper into the mysteries of the universe, it is crucial to remain open-minded and recognize that our current mental constructs may be replaced or refined as new information emerges.
      In the realm of beliefs and ideologies, it's important to acknowledge that no single perspective or belief system has all the answers. As you mentioned, postmodernism and post-postmodernism offer unique insights, but they do not address every aspect of human experience or understanding. Similarly, while non-dualism provides a valuable perspective even this metaphysical ground does not answer for the full and total nature of reality. This is what Jeff Kripal writes about with such insight and knowledge - that any one perspective, while possibly valid on one level, usually is incomplete. He suggests a dual-aspect monism which, at least, recognizes the 2 and 1 together in a paradoxical embrace.
      Regarding the use of entheogens, it's true that they can open doors to new perspectives and experiences. However, as you pointed out, there's always the question of whether all doors are truly opened or if some remain closed - who could know the answers here? I know I have fun asking the questions, though. It's essential to approach these experiences with care, discernment, and an understanding that they are just one aspect of the complex and multifaceted human journey.
      Ultimately, the quest for knowledge, understanding, and spiritual growth is an ongoing process that will continue to evolve as we encounter new experiences, ideas, and perspectives. It's essential to remain humble, curious, and open to learning from others and our own experiences. In the end, the journey itself is a powerful teacher, and it's through our collective exploration and sharing that we can help one another grow and progress.
      Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts and engaging in this meaningful conversation. Let's continue to support each other as we navigate the complexities of life and expand our understanding of the world around us.

    "Most people"(Christians is what he means) don't believe in this "penal wrathful" God that he speaks of. This is merely what paying attention to media and propaganda would have one believe. Believe it or not Rohr is more appealing to the masses, "most people" have his view. This is the "broad way" that Christ warned against. It's actually very worldly, it's in the water these days. One thing I've learned in this world is that it's not the people we assume to be "firm or rigid" on the surface look out for, it's the fake nice people who are the most sinister... Christ warned of "wolves in SHEEPS clothing", not against people who outwardly appear as wolves, who our own prejudices would have us believe our wolves... these are, most of the time, projections, too, that our minds perceive, and are more likely reflecting our own shortcomings, than the ones we imagine in others. I am Orthodox and I don't know anyone who fits this picture Rohr wants to paint of Christians, it's a caricature. I know a couple hardliner Christians who I do disagree with bc they can be extreme in their views of hell and what not, but it's not these to worry about, they are actually simple gentle people, who will give you the shirt off of their backs. There are temptations from the Right and the Left in world, John Cassian the great monk warns of this as did Christ. Rohr falls to one side, and he clearly resents the ones who fall to his opposite. I do respect and appreciate some stuff Rohr says and writes, though, I do feel he's well intentioned, in a confusing troubles world. And i am just sharing my opinion and experience, so please forgive me if this offended anyone.

      There is a hundred times more judgement OF Christians then the seeming judgement FROM Christians that people including Rohr imagine. But it is really their own judgement they should be concerned with, as we see with Rohr, who assumes he "knows better" than these "rigid uneducated" Christians he condemns in this video.

      I grew up in Protestant fundamentalist churches and ultimately got kicked out of several simply for daring to question the doctrine of eternal torment. So too penal substitutionary atonement theology was basically our gospel.
      Later I started studying Origen of Alexandria, Gregory of Nyssa, Isaac the Syrian and others and started visiting some Orthodox churches and reading folks like David Bentley Hart, Jarislov Pelikan, Alexander Golitzin, and others. Such a different experience!
      The churches I grew up in were hard core literalist, with no room for the mystical. Theosis wasn’t even a familiar word. The churches were simply selling fire insurance, not realizing that God is that Consuming Fire smelting away the old nature, so that Christ (the Divine Nature) might be revealed.
      Anyhow, all that to say, Rohr was a welcome voice beyond the fundamentalism, literalism, and legalism of my youth. I’m sure it’s easy to think Rohr is just knocking down some straw man, but he’s really not. So many of the churches I started in were toxic cults, and we didn’t know there was an alternative.
      Truly it’s not a caricature; it’s the world I grew up in. And I have seen Rohr’s books and influence help rescue many of us from that toxic brand of Christianity. And provide us an umbrella of belonging after being rejected from previous places of fellowship.

But I do like Rohr, he has been an influence for me, years ago. But he has an extreme view, he clearly resents the other extreme, and to me they are much more similar then they want to admit.
