Dude Luigi was NOT found within the files of the game. He was found in one of the many Gigaleaks over the years, he was cut from the game relatively early in development. He is not in any retail version of Super Mario 64

i'm surprised some people still don't know about luigi being found in this gigaleak, being placed in the game and then being used in sm64 multiplayer games, it was huge news

I got the feeling that the guy who Leaked Luigi waited for 24 years and one month
Luigi is NOT in the game, someone sent a letter to Nintendo and Nintendo replying to that letter saying that they added that memorial in the game only to tease other people
2018 was the year when many games came out with their ripped code source and Luigi was actually out for a long time but it took 3 years for people to realize because of the page where the files where uploaded was totally obscure
Nintendo predicted the meaning to “L is real 2401” which means “Luigi is real but will be found in 24 years and 1 month”
Luigi is real, but the 2401 part is a coincidence. You see, if you take a closer look at the sign, it actually says "Eternal Star." Unfortunately, a texture compression like this can easily misread and it can lead to rumors spreading. Even if there was a meaning behind this sign, it's mostly likely that it would be teasing Mario Party, where the final board is called "Eternal Star."
The same texture is also seen reused in a dungeon in Ocarina of Time, and it says the exact same thing. It can’t have been made specifically for that purpose
And it just happens that game also uses the same engine as SM64.
That's what's we call saving money on game development. If it aint broke dont fix it, and look at how great both of these games are.

Nintendo should go back to 64 and code in Luigi mode. I swear, something as simple as Luigi sprite for 64 would blow the whole game off again.

In the remake for the DS version they added a metric ton of fun content, including unlockable characters that you could use to reach different areas by searching through secret places.

it says Eternal Star, its a star on the statue, and its in a courtyard full of ghosts. idk how anyone believed in this, even as a child I read it normally. it makes perfect sense to be the Eternal Star as a statue of a star in a courtyard full of eternal beings

Something I always found odd when this happened was how many people didn't know they said in interviews Luigi was meant to be in a multiplayer mode but got cut due to technical restrictions. It was the first we'd seen the model, but they'd talked about how they got him working in the game years prior at that point.
No, Luigi WASN'T in the game files. However, there WAS a leak with Super Mario 64 in it and a Luigi model in the files. That date is so perfect, because the leaker posted it then. Also, this is not a mandela effect.

Fun fact: in the early beta trailer for super Mario 64 we get to see a clip of Mario switching to Luigi so I'm guessing you could switch characters in the game but sadly Nintendo scrapped that idea

Super Mario 64 was originally gonna be a 2 character game ... Mario and Luigi.. brothers. But Nintendo didn't include Luigi in the final game and made it a 1 character playable game.

Super mario 64 was supposed to have multiplayer but the screen would be a co op screen so they didn't make luigi.

also fun fact, this texture was reused for a metal sign in zelda: ocarina of time. they did this a lot actually, another texture got reused for wave race. i wouldn't be surprised if this sign wasn't tailor made for mario, just an internal collection of textures nintendo used back then.

Man, Everyone has read it wrong, It's actually written Eternal Star.
Edit: If you upscale the image 10x, You will see it's written Eternal Star.
Someone did a glitch in sm64 where you could get Luigi he ended up getting Luigi but you can't go through doors no matter if you have 1 - 120 stars the doors were just black
( when you do the glitch you play as Luigi)
Fun fact: The plaque says "Eternal Star"
