luigi's voice would probably be a sped up version of mario's voice like super smash bros
This would make a lot of sense as it would even save on resources of the cart
actually it's pitched up, not sped up, but the point still stands so I guess it doesn't matter much
_just wanted to point this out before someone else would_ 👀
yea that was in the first ever Smash Bros from 1999. Just higher pitch of Mario’s voice
then again, luigi had proper lines in mario kart 64, that cane out before smash
@@karuma6635 that also had less stuff to load because the characters were 2d
Hey uh, the "uncompressed "So Long, Gay Bowser!" is actually an edit someone made that took a while. People began spreading it around as such when the creator had to clarify it wasn't the real uncompressed thing.
Damn, too many fakes. This one seems especially not so known. Gotta trend carefully with audio especially it seems
@@TheObsessiveGamer So, I see you like talking about cut content. Is it possible for me to suggest an episode?
@@totallynotmichael1137 yeah sure I'm open to suggestions always. Viewers even bringing up the Luigi lines here are even why I made this video to debunk.
@@TheObsessiveGamer We should talk on discord. Got some stuff I wanna tell you about said episode suggestion.

@@TheObsessiveGamer Lots of stuff was scrapped/changed.
Thank you so much clearing this out. A lot of people commented me saying that the voice samples were not from Super Mario 64. Now I asked them if they could link me a source to confirm me such comment since I have no knowledge of how data mining works. I had no intentions on spreading misinformation. At the time I thought they were legit and I shared an interpretation of how Luigi might've sounded like BASED on the supposed leaked voice (had they been true).
Hey! I remember watching that old video of yours when researching for this video.Yeah it can be very tough to decipher this through here due to the many steps required. Glad I be of assistance in clearing it up here!
It would make sense that at the early stage of SM64’s development, when Luigi was in the game still, there was no actual voice clips and only placeholder sounds that probably didn’t even resemble human voices. So I don’t think Luigi ever even had voice clips in SM64.
Yeah I can believe that considering Mario was seen with placeholder voices (screechy ones at that), so Luigi might have had the same even.
Even if he did have voice clips, it would most likely be Mario’s voice clips but high pitched since that was Luigi’s voice before Luigi’s Mansion.
@@ItsLelingTime That was just Smash 64 and Melee. Everything else had seperate voice clips.
2:45 correction. this was an unofficial "decompression" by a fan made around the time of the gigaleak. this was not the real original voice clip. he added in the higher frequencies by hand.
Yeah as mentioned with others who brought that up, it was a mistake which shows how one has to be super careful with audio files especially as they can be easily faked
lol I thought these were legit at first too. Regardless, some of them still sound pretty hilarious!
No doubt, wish they were real in this game but glad to see they still are real at least in another game all together
Luigi's voice around that time was just a higher pitched Mario anyway
Yeah right, I thought I was the only one who noticed
no not really
No, he was lower pitched. Look at Mario Tennis.
No, western media such as the cartoons and Hotel Mario as well as Mario Kart 64 gave him a separate voice. It was just Smash 64 and Melee that used pitched up Mario.
I thought these voice clips were real too...I always thought they sounded weird though, considering the leaked Luigi voice clips sounded like Luigi's voice today, while in the N64 era, he had way different voices in the N64 Mario Party games and Smash 64.
Now that you mention it, it is vastly different during then vs now even if these clips are from 2001
I swear that whenever someone tries to use the "But he had a different voice in the N64 era" as the reason the voice leaks are fake that they have never played Mario Kart 64, Mario Golf and Tennis, and Mario Party 3.
@@vegetafan9922 I've played Mario Kart 64, his voice still sounds different to today's Luigi voice. I think that was the first game to actually have voice clips for Luigi, so if that's the case then I'm guessing if he was in Mario 64, he would sound like how he does in Mario Kart 64. Which sounds different to modern Luigi.
@@wags696 How is this different from how he sounds now?
ua-cam.com/video/bBB5FE1X3I0/v-deo.html
@@vegetafan9922 He sounds more Italian lol.
For me the Luigi voice clips always sounded souspicious since in the 64 era Luigi's voice was basically Mario's but pitched
1:32 “There I am Gary, there I am!”
Honestly, I don’t blame anyone for thinking that these clips, both the Luigi ones and that fan-made cleanup of the “So long-eh Bowser!” line, were unused Mario 64 audio, for a couple of reasons.
1) Not everyone has access to the full contents of the Gigaleak, as it’s (rightfully) not distributed so easily. Sure, you CAN find it if you know where to look, but not many people do. As such, most relied on those who do have the Gigaleak downloaded. But because of the sheer size of the leak, and people’s interest scattered about its various other contents, nobody except a few people went ahead and double checked to see the actual source of the Luigi voice clips.
2) This leak brought to light a whole slew of unused content for the world to see. Plus, among the Gigaleak contents were the actual uncompressed voicelines for Star Fox 64 and F-Zero X. So the idea of there being potentially unused and/or uncompressed audio for Mario 64 wasn’t that far fetched. Though as has been proven, this was not the case.
Again, I don’t blame anyone for getting fooled here. Things like this happen, especially during such an exciting time such as this. However, it’s still good to double-check everything, as you never know what might actually be complete bogus. To quote one of my favorite shows as a kid Mystery Hunters, “Remember: Things aren’t always what they seem.”
Nice! Yeah basically. It was definitely one of the tougher ones ot decipher as even if we had it, it was tough to access and read the files to afterwards.
IF Luigi were to have a voice at the time of SM64, it could've been possible that Charles Martinet wouldn't have even done it! After Mario 64, Mario Kart 64 was released, which features Luigi and Wario voiced by him (my favorite versions of them). However, in Japan, Luigi, Wario, and Toad had different voice actors completely, which were also in a rare game known as Mario Excitebike for SNES, and Mario Party 1&2 for all languages. Charles himself explained after Mario 64, Wario's voice came before Luigi's, and similar to Mario's creation, they were all through improv. He created them during an E3 Convention where he voiced animatronics with sensors hooked up to his face, live for people to talk to (similar to what he does to this day at Nintendo conventions when voicing digital characters live). Mario was already made from his famed audition, and Wario was similar to how we know him today. However, Luigi did not have an animatronic there, so when people would ask Mario (Charles) live at the convention 'Where's Luigi?!?", he came up with a genius improvisation. He would have Mario say "Let me see, Hey Luigi! The kids want to see you!". Without moving his own mouth so the sensors wouldn't go off so Mario wouldn't move his mouth (ventriloquism), he would have Luigi say "I'm shy Mario, I don't want to come out." Then, he would switch back to Mario and talk regularly. This not only added on to the emphasis of Luigi being shy, but caused Charles to speak as Luigi with a deeper and muffled pitch. Thus, creating the deep voiced Luigi we know and love today. In Super Smash Bros, they reused character voices that already existed in games, and since Luigi's Japanese voice actor at the time used a higher pitch, they went along with just speeding up the pitch of Mario's voice to use as Luigi's voice. Mario Tennis and Golf for 64 kept on with the deeper pitch of Luigi's voice, however, in Mario Party 3, and more notably in Super Mario Advanced, Luigi spoke with a bit of a higher, nasaly tone that we still hear today. I personally prefer the 64 era of deep pitched Luigi, because it gave him more of a serious and reserved characteristic which I feel has been lost throughout the years, focusing on the fact he is clumsy and scared all of the time. Overall, when recording for Super Mario 64, Nintendo and/or Charles Martinet could have gone with a different approach to Luigi's voice if they actually recorded it during this time. This can also be answered if we find out when Charles recorded the first voices for Mario in Super Mario 64, because this convention I mentioned as in 1996!
Damn, bravo for that essay. Amazingly complex history for Luigi's voice alone there. Yeah we might have indeed had. Different person voicing him if this happened.
Also do you have a link for what you said or whereever I can look? I wanna read further on this as it's very interesting :)
@@TheObsessiveGamerthanks, I've always noticed the slight changes in their voices, even Mario's himself. And sure, I found out information from different sources. Here are not all of them but a couple:

@Amy Shute I like your opinion! While it is cool that Luigi has this history of voice change and I respect his attempt, I find Bardakoff's voice extremely unfitting for Luigi's personality, as it tends to feel one dimensional flat character, lacking in range, and whiny/hard to listen to on repeat. Even in N64 era, Martinet's Luigi evolved off of the idea of being "reserved and shyer" than optimistic Mario.
@Amy Shute love your perspective!
2:43 ah yes, one of the most iconic (in a meme way) lines in a Mario game
Good job, man! Your video feels so professional
Thank you! appreciate it!
I always knew they weren't real, because I'm certain Charles Martinet hadn't develop his Luigi voice that well at the time. Plus the "Aaah, Mama Miaaaaa!" line was simply said in Mario Advance to coincide with Mario saying the same line for consistency's sake. It just seemed too weird to have that developed voice all the way back in '96.
Agreed, but I guess many of us still fell for it. N64 Luigi was simply a higher pitched Mario voice
@@TheObsessiveGamer Yep. 64-Melee Luigi had quite a ride. From high-pitched Mario lines to some guy playing him in the early Mario Party games like with Wario, to having the right sort of voice in Mario Kart 64.
@The SNES Man Yes that was the first instance actually. I did mention that in my first Luigi video
2:45 just confirms that “so long gay bowser” is true
holy shit, that's me
Eyyyyy. And that's why I like subscribers for bringing good discussion like that forward
I was the one who posted the voice clips for the first time in the Preservation Project discord, the reason why they were pitched up because when I imported the .aif files as raw data in audacity they were very high pitch, so when I lowered their pitch it wasn't lowered all the way
Interesting. I guess you might have grabbed those from the AGB Mario Bros folder and thought they were for this game?
I could be wrong, but I heard somewhere that some stuff was removed from the decomp when made public, so Luigi could have a voice somewhere. Not the case for further beta because placeholder sounds were used, but as far back as Charles was hired
I mean think about it, luigi had a very different higher pitch voice in the n64 era
Indeed, but I guess our hype over Luigi got us to not think logically at that time.
You. Are. Very. Very. VERY. Underrated
Well done.
On the screenshots, the hue of Luigi’s green clothes seems darker compared to what the reconstructed beta model presents. 🧐
When screenshots are you referring to?
*Sees Thumbnail*
*Me, an intellectual:* Wasn’t he the guy who said fuck in Mario Golf?
welp im just glad the model was real so its a win win
Im excited
I feel like the real luigi lines would be the Mario lines but at a higher sample rate
No new abilities, probably just a higher pitched voice and possibly be floatier and jump higher
Good on you for correcting your mistake. Far to many people just let social media do that kind of thing, and not everyone (myself included) gives a flying F about social media, so we never hear that "one or two things" were wrong. To be fair, I wasn't surprised that fakes were going around during this day, it was easy to fake something like this (or make a mistake on what came from where) given the massive leak.
Thanks! and yeah considering this is supposed to document properly, I don't want false information to stay afloat (especially with how that video exploded). I'll definitely plan to be more careful on these going forward.
@@TheObsessiveGamer Good on you, dude, there needs to be a lot more honesty. That alone has earned you a sub here!
@@BeckyNosferatu Much appreciate it!
Luigi first time talk was in mario kart 64. And his voice was different.
I knew it was odd that those were voiced by charles since he became his voice later
Well he has been Luigi's voice since Mario Kart 64, so I didn't find it too odd at first but the presentation of Luigi's voice is different here vs what it was during much of the N64 era
2:45 Kinda sounds like Mario's voice from Oddesey
So cool
SO LONG HOMOSEXUAL TURTLE KING!
Gotta be honest, the day I searched through the leak, CVS was a pain in the ass to learn
Yeah I couldn't figure it out and nor was anyone will to put any guide out on doing so in order to figure the leak out
Well if I was a game developer I would definitely try to turn Mario into Luigi in Mario 64
thank god someone fucking said it
it was literally something ONE person mentioned during the excitement when luigi was discovered
and it was reposted to twitter and other discords and spread from there
btw the voices were literally in a folder OUTSIDE of the sm64 folder, I don't know why people even looked in there assuming they were from sm64
the folder name mario_agb literally stands for Mario Advanced Game Boy
Pretty much. As I showed where it actually was located too in this case. Glad you liked it.
In my opinion,Luigi used same Mario's voicelines but pitched by the code or sorta of
Beta Mario 64 Leak?
*"That's-a delicioushoes!"*
They probably had the same voice clips. Maybe Luigi’s would be higher pitched like in melle. But I think that to is good that he was not included because if he was he might of just stayed player 2
Maybe, but we have no proof if these voice clips were ever intended for this game. As far as we can see, it was only for Super Mario Advance.
the reason I thought they were real was because I thought that they went unused for 64 and used for Advance instead
The model level all mod Luigi version pc model has in Xbox from video games like all fan demo and 😶

Maybe? maybe it'd be Mario with a different pitch even.
Maybe luigi was cut so eary before got his own voice
He actually only got cut only 4 months before the games release. Hard to say if they wanted to make his voice a bit late or not or if that was cut too
The Obsessive Gamer Just imagine what super mario 64 would look like if Luigi wasn’t removed
@@urtooslowlol Fun 2 player co-op!
Well I thought that 2 of those lines would of been good in sm64. “That’s dilishious” could have been used in the final cutscene when peach says let’s bake a cake
And mama Mia could of been when luigi got thrusted out of a panting
That would of.been cool
Lol I actually did say that would have been perfect for the cake image at the end in the previous video.
They probably didn't work on Luigi voice or they did but can't put it in in super Mario 64 i hope they put the 2d player mode in the port
I doubt we'll see 2 player mode back in with that release as it seems to be a minimal HD UpRes with portability.
i think luigis sounds would be just marios voice but higher pitched like super smash bros 64
Yeah that's what i'm thinking since that's what they did for the whole N64 era
3:40 was that editor also included in the leak or is it just something custom made by a fan?
That's a custom editor. People have been using it for a while
I want. Multiplayer on the switch
absolute prediction
2:45
Luigi's sneeze was fake
Me: if that's the case why did the world implode
Only a mighty scrapped sneeze can cause this
Speed is epic
4:29 what’s that fandom page?
I knew the audio was too crunchy for the n64
GBA sound chip was always rather lowgrade. Only making sense now
If the dialogue is fake is there any real Luigi audio out there from Mario 64?
Logically, if Luigi had unused voice clips separate from Mario's in Mario 64, they probably would've been used in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Not that that's hard evidence that the voice clips were fake on its own. I imagine if Luigi was playable in Mario 64, they would've used pitch shifting on Mario's voice the same way they did in Melee to save on budget.
Yeah I agree, they'd possibly make it a higher pitch as reflected in other games
This just comes to show why people need to do research before coming to conclusions. (Although I'm not mad at 64ify, I still think he and others should try to do more research instead of posting things immediately when they come out, out of pure excitement.)
I do agree and yeah 64ify and others made mistake unintentionally. It happens to the best of us. It's also why I usually don't cover this stuff so quickly after it's found out, but this was an exception and thus why we were hit with a bit of false news here.
It’s weird how they still didn’t add Luigi in Mario 3D all-stars
Yeah it's a shame. It was a low effort port afterall. At least he is in the DS version
So, luigi is speechless?
Right now yes since there was no dialogue found, but I imagine they had something planned

That model isn't "real" either.
It is untextured body parts that someone just placed together and textured him based on guesses from the L texture for the hat, and mustache.
And it's not in the final game. This is from the Spaceworld build, which we already knew had Luigi
The model is real. It came from the gigaleak which was from the Spaceworld build. They were untextured but the textures were there. People applied them to the model they found and thus we got the Luigi we were expecting. It wasn't fake, we can confirm that. Luigi's voiced dialogue is all that was fake.
@@TheObsessiveGamer that's exactly what I just said, lol.
But you got a detail wrong. The only actual textures were of the L for the cap, his eyes, mouth, mustache, and hands.
The rest is a rough estimation based on those.
@sgillman16 That's cause these models aren't supposed to have any further textures. Mario's model only has those textures. The rest are just straight coloured polygons, thus why Luigi's is also like that.
Also his mouth and hands are textureless as he has no mouth and his hands are just white polygons
aww man I've fallen too
2:45 that wasn't legit either. Someone stole another person's edit of that clip and tricked people into believing it was legit.
