I loved this whole entire concert. I’m 10 and me and my dad got me tickets for my Birthday, was my first concert I loved it.
That’s awesome to hear sadly I didn’t get to see them this year the only show they did near me was the Chicago show at the metro and it’s a small venue and they did very little promotion for it but I guess I’ll just have to wait till they come back
Dad of the year
welcome to the Metallica family
Sounds like a fantastic time! And a slightly belated happy birthday. So you must be a true 2010s-born... damn I feel old.
lucky my mom is christian and won’t let me see metallica i’m only 14 by the time i can see them they’ll be too old😔
It's interesting how the "chorus" of the song is instrumental, if you analize the structure of a traditional song. Such a masterpiece.
That is one of my favorite things about this song.
wow, I never thought of it that way before. makes it even more iconic!
I always noticed this as a youngster 30 years ago learning it on guitar.
Just a massive voiceless chorus. Super amazing, clever song written by a bunch of barely twenty-somethings.
The lyrics: commit suicide
The instruments: don't do it! I know is hard but just don't do it! You can get over this!
Such a masterpiece...
A song like this that tells such a gripping story needs no chorus.
This is probably the best live performance of Fade To Black I've ever heard. The old geezers are on fire!
Shut up, they're not old geezers. Old geezers are 75 and 80 year olds. They're only around 55.
@@metalmellie4371 Hetfield turned 58 in August, Ulrich turns 58 in just three days, Hammet turned 59 in November and Truiljo turned 57 in October. They're all rapidly approaching 60. They are definitely old, and yet they're still hitting it hard.
best performance is in 89 dude
@@metalmellie4371 bro just shut up lol they are old, everyone grows old deal with it.
@@marcuslewitzki4610 dude, 60 is roughly 2/3 of a life. That's not old yet. Wait for 15ish years.
Man, this song is 37 years old and Metallica is 40... FORTY YEARS OLD! And look at them go!!! I love seeing James so well and healthy, the guys are playing at the top of their game close to being 60 and there's no stopping them any time soon. I just love it. Truly, the best band ever.
This was my first Metallica concert

I hope they Will come to Europe so i can see them

@@lucasvandeven2489 yea same here
What I love about that song is that everything got better throughout the years and now it’s sound better than ever!!!
Holy crap, you're absolutely right! This is the best performance of this song I've heard them play!

@@HaroldBallz the one lars does alright too lol
Got better throughout the years? You’re on a SICK ONE lol
I was there...front row and it was AWESOME
Me and my wife went to this show. It was her first real concert, after hearing me praise Metallica since we met in High School she wanted to go to this show with me to see what "all the fuss was about".
Needless to say, she absolutely fell in love with the energy and the songs.
Immediately after their set ended we went down to the merch booth and got sets of tour shirts and hoodies because she wanted to commemorate the occasion, and I never turn down the chance to spend some extra money on Metallica merch 😉
All in all, thank you Metallica for always being in the happiest moments of my life!
Your wife is awesome! That was a great time that you'll both remember for the rest of your lives. Blessings!
Feels great to finally say, I was there. Best concert and best experience of my 22 year old life. Thank you Metallica.
Congrats

What an epic walk with that solo. Kirk just strolling with it. Damn.
Huge huge props to Lars for putting in the work, he's sounding tighter than ever. The band as a whole are sounding the best they have in a long, long time. I'm loving this. Find myself waiting eagerly for every new video.
Was at the ATL show. They sounded and played awesome. Looking for to the 40th in a couple weeks in San Fran.
I love Metallica but as someone who has played drums for over 25 years I gotta say Lars can be hard to listen to, the fills are just so goofy sometimes and he constantly slows down and speeds up. I will say he sounds a bit better here, usually it's way more obvious.
@@grizzlywhisker yeah I don't understand what your talking about, but everyone can have their own opinion.
Agreed. I bought the download of this show at Live Metallica and they are like a well oiled machine! It seems to be popular to bag on Lars, but he's playing great of late. Can't be easy to play these songs as they approach 60, but they make it look easy.
they're playing slower than ever, go to 1.10x speed to actually hear album speed and you'll realize how bad this is without the speed correction
Why did it take me until 2021 to realize that James’s acoustic guitar has The Unforgiven ll lyrics written on it??
holy shit, I didn't notice either lol
I dont think Ive ever seen this guitar before.
@@RobbieFitzgerald he used it a few years ago for the same song

James voice is like a fine wine ages better with time
I remember when I used this track for a music class assignment in high- school back around 1990 and my teacher frowned upon it. He gave me a passing grade though and it makes me smile knowing Metallica has gotten to Beatles/ Rolliing Stones- level of legendry for so many of my generation. Damn, was crying here...
@MonoChronicle because it was all one 'big pile of noise' to him. I used to be in a band with some class mates at the same time, playing rock and metal and we also got a good amount of 'criticism' from him.
I onced used ONE for a music assignment
@@jedijazz21 good choice! Personally, Fade to Black fit the assignment better.
I passed my GCSE (UK) with fade to black performance 😂. And grade 8 guitar with One

A lot of newbies criticized Kirk for using wah. But we professionals we all knew Kirk is a great guitar player.
Holy crap, when James does the bridge riff by himself, that tone sounded like the ride the lightning guitar tone. Loved this version!

Whatever he paid for it, I love that Kirk actively plays Greeny and that it isn't in some glass case somewhere.
Hes clearly been playing it a lot and working on that vibrato too...!!!!! Sounds better than Ive heard him play before.
The best live version since seattle '89 remastered version, i love when james and kirk tear into their solos, 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Me too
It's almost as though someone took Lars into a room and showed him all of his old videos of their greatest performances and he remembered all the classic drum fills. I am so thankful and happy to see them all playing like this, but especially Lars, he was the reason why I started playing drums myself, and I couldn't be more proud of how they are playing right now.
This is the best and cleanest live version of FTB I've ever heard. They're playing like they're 20 years old again! Love it! So pissed I decided not to go to this concert. 🤦🏼♂️
I gotta agree! Everyone is sounding incredible!

James voice sounding like pure gold
Ok so is no one gonna talk about kirks outro solo ? He killed it
I get emotioned everytime I listen to this song. Metallica really makes you feel alive. This version is huge.
One of my favorite songs from that night! Had so much fun! Went nuts for Blackened lol
I was in Atlanta a few days before the show couldn't go sadly
The reverse intro slowly fading in was the most epic thing I've ever witnessed
i went nuts for blackened too, when i saw them in 2017 that’s the only song i wanted to hear but they didn’t play it. i went absolutely crazy when the intro started playing. best night of my life
Anything from the AJFA album is 10x better live. The album is incredible even without the bass, but if Rob is allowed to shine like Jason never could... Holy hell...
I dedicate this song to my dog Hooper who passed away today due to liver cancer.
RIP Hooper 2013-2021 he was such a good boy.
"Growing darkness taking dawn, I was me but now he's gone" - What a lyric, after all these years, still me right in the face.
Man this was so tight and kicking - Kirk rocking Greeny on the outro was EPIC too...
LOVED IT!!!!
The guys are sounding better live than they have in a long time, and I’m happy for them
It's passion and commitement over money and fame I guess !!!

Love that Ken Lawrence Explorer!

Long live Metallica and to the Filipino fans proudly present metallica's guitarist with Filipino blood.
I was there, for my 16th birthday…best fucking present ever. thank you 1000x Metallica.
When I was 8 or 9 at most, first time in my life I put a cassette in the player and pressed play button, literally my first conscious listening, was a Kill em All cassette. Now I am 35. I bought countless Metallica cassettes, cds, longplays, dvds. Sometimes I listened them every day, sometimes it took months for another listening. But I always kept coming back. When I felt happy, I played air guitar and drum with them, when I was angry or in bad mood, I closed my eyes and sweared at things that pissed me off while listening them. They were always with me, I grew up with them. Now it feels like I know them in person. Everytime I see a new live Metallica video, before listening the music, a smile appears on my face and I feel like I see a dear friend of mine that I knew my whole life.
Très beau commentaire !
I feel exactly the same way. You put into words what I can't do like that
And it makes me sad they won't be forever by our sides. Cause I needed them when I was 15, I needed them when I was 25, I needed them when I was 35. I can't imagine I won't need them when I'll be 45, 65 or even 85.
Nice words man. I feel the same.
What a wonderful words!
I love this band ❤ Seriously, I fell in love with them as a kid in the 80's. Now at 41, my heart is still filled with joy every time I listen.

James has become an absolutely exceptional singer as he's aged.
Metallica are timeless.
Lars is so fkn solid kirk flashing off with a smile rob being tight amd precise and james voice being in top form this is magic
When Kirk started solo I was like go Kirk and then he came up with this amazing different perfect solo! Nailed it! Metallica Rulez!
You can see he really enjoyed it
He dont respect the original solo
I missed metalica last time around, if they ever tour again I dont care how in debt and broke I am, I WILL attend that concert
A piece of me was missing when Metallica wasn’t touring and I wasn’t fed with these videos. I’m so glad they are back and sounding better than in a long time
This is by far one of the best live versions I've heard in awhile.
The best Birthday gift! Love you, Metallica!
(Specially Kirk's Guitar on thumbnail, it's fucking beautiful)
Is it the Peter Green guitar?
It was early birthday gift for me too!
@@Lance37a Yep.
The beginning intro is one of my all time favorites and I love how Kirk finally played it very close to the recording, without doing the little trills, and his bends were in tune.
The green LP, rob's tone and james' and lars' ferocity... Perfect
One of the best sounding performances of this song in a while. All seems in tune
That second verse sounds sooo good
So glad this was my first concert
Greatest Metallica’s song. True masterpiece.
My personal favorite!
the way this sounds in 2021 live is pure epicness...Lars slamming the kick drums and playing tight proves to the haters he still has it...Hets wrist strong as ever, Rob's pounding bass, and especially Kirk's solos are absolute fire...blown away!!!!
I've never heard a more beautiful song in my life. When i was 14(1993), my girlfriend at that time gave me a cassette of "Ride The Lightning" and I still have it. A white cassette tape. This song has saved my life ever since and I'm 43.
Around the 6 minute mark when Kirk kicks into the solo, and Lars is playing the drums CORRECTLY (double bass included)… I lost it. Metallica forever.
I was there! Can’t wait to relive it
Same!
Kirk's fingers on a guitar are smoother than butter. 😁 I always love the way they conclude this song in any live concert.. One hell of a masterpiece..
This is the best Fade to Black live performance for about 10 years.
Awesome performance. Lars flawless playing, James voice fresh as ever, Rob’s bass tight n heavy but i leave this one to “the reaper” Kirk Hammett’s mastery of the electric guitar instrument on minute 2:30. 🤤🤩🤘🏼
Absolutely
Agreed. It brought tears to my eyes it was so good. I ❤️ Metallica.
What about Lars's unnecessary drum fills?
This song brought me to tears in Atlanta! This was the moment in the show I stood back and took it all in. It was beautiful! The crowd was all singing along and it was a magical experience 🌟

A kid I knew in highschool quoted this song in the senior year book. Three years later he got drunk and played chicken with an Amtrak. He died. I wonder how much this song influenced him by romanticizing his despair instead of trying to give hope.
This song fits James's voice so well as he continues to develop as a singer! So awesome!!!
