What i love about BVR fights is that you can't see the missile itself until it's way too late, it adds tension like a well-made horror movie.. i need MORE
Well now the F-35 is just as cheap and much more capable (and with more logistical support too). Why do 4.5th Gen when you can have a more capable 5th Gen platform for same price?
The F-16 is cheaper and just as capable, the F-35 is similarly priced and much more capable. Buying American planes also gives you favorable treatment in relations with the US. Sweden wont allow the sale of planes to the tinpot dictatorships that the US won't sell to (Russia sells to them instead). Just some of the reasons the Gripen isn't selling well.
Low production numbers. A number of countries flirted with the idea. But under artesian workshop conditions Saab will never crank them out fast enough.
Man, even with all the incredible flying you did, it was a close fight both rounds, but you came out on top. I’m assuming it was the Su30SM you were fighting right? If so, how do you think the Su30MKI with Astra missiles would fair? Think the MKI would fare better or worse? IDK which Flanker is better between the two.
The best part was when you admitted that you did not do a great job working the MAR, as your opponent did. You admitted your mistakes and applied it to the next fight, well done! 😎 Your inner monologue spoken out loud is helping many, many people understand what is going on and how they need to tackle air combat the next time they fly their sim missions. @@keepingcalm6469 well according to some articles its quite realistic. it uses MIDS datalink to guide itself towards the target and the lock on(after launch). its specifically designed to be able to do this
@@zahnatom imo its still underperforming. Gripen would be able to utilize the HMD and missile warning system to lock targets beyond 90 degrees. something that is understandably yet sadly not modeled in the mod.

A fun video would be rounding up some buddies for Battle of the Canards: A WVR battle royale between the JAS39 Gripen, SU30SM Flanker-H, Eurofighter Typhoon, and Dassault Rafale. May the best 'nard win.
The Gripen has looked like a wicked little fighter in DCS. The Swedes put together a great package on it. Surprised its not a bigger seller with the upgraded engine as it seems rather budget friendly compared to some of its peers.
I believe the Gripen is a very competitive package for air forces with a predominantly defensive mission set. It’s not really built with penetrating ground attack in mind. However, it’s a clever interceptor that will stay hidden, pop up and shoot and then quickly land on a forward positioned make shift road base and rearm within 15 minutes. This means you get many more sorties out of every Gripen aircraft compared to a F-35 that needs to ferry longer distances and will take longer to rearm and service. The reason it hasn’t had more sales success is mainly politics (who do you want as your ally: USA or Sweden?) and the fact that to get optimal performance out of the Gripen System you need to rethink and reshape your air force strategy. For Ukraine the Gripen system would be ideal.
@@davedeville6540 I think you hit the nail on the head here. So many seem to forget that many of these planes are scalpes in military doctrine rather than a do all. The eurofighter is the fastest climber after a scramble, because that's what it needs to do primarily. Defend sea borders and climb HIGH FAST. The Gripen is protecting very tight borders, so has a short distance to defend, but needs to be ready everywhere invisibly. France is all of the above, and on the African continent, so they built a true in house multi role jack of all mass communicating plane. And frankly it feels like most of the American aircraft doctrine is: Cruising to distant engagement zones, often in questionable territory, engage and go home as safe as possible (high, fast, long radar) Russia is a bit harder, but I'd say: Offence and defence have the right tool for the vast part of Russia you are over?? (When you can mine the raw materials airaft are free, but R&D is not. So build specific aircraft: attack, intercept, scout, escort, heavy, light, (Su-34 for DCS?)

Even the most advanced model of gripen E is half the cost of F35 when comparing lifetime costs. I don't know why people say the dogfighting era is gone because bvr missiles are still very "evade-able".
First, tell us the range occasionally for our SA. Second, turn off your radar and rely on RWR if you are 'trying to sneak up on him'. If you're transmitting, he knows where you are... at 9:28, you say "see how he changed vector?" No. Put a circle around the display you see that on, and it gives us an idea of where he is. Interesting video, though
so with these mods, they aren't really capturing the planes abilities are they? Or are they just using like an vipers stats and changing the the appearance?

@@davedeville6540 it's actually kinda shares similar philosophy as the Gripen A B C the older variants does as Tejas is also a light weight fighter making use of reliable GE engine and Tejas has a very similar payload capacity and range and a greater service ceiling than Gripen also it's now equipped with AESA radar and has Astra BVR missile which give it a range of 110 km BVR capabilities so if you compare the Tejas mk 1 and Mk 1a it's very similar to that of Gripen older variants and also has more components and radar absorbent material used and a superior fly by wire system so that's it and Tejas mk 2 will be similar to Gripen E and most likely it will be a bit superior

As good as the gripes seems on simulations it’s not a good package due to its serviceability and high failure rates in the past. Not a good deal for many smaller countries.
There were an excercise with Thai Gripen and Chinese J-11 aka modernised Su27 so flankers in 2015. The J-11 were superior in dogfights, but absolutly got slauthered in BVR when the Gripen could use simulated Meteor missiles.
Opinion or fact? The Flanker is being shot down by SAMs and Manpads every week in i Ukraine. If they can’t stay alive against ground forces I don’t see them surviving against a modern western air force. But your name tells me you might consume a different flavour of propaganda than me. Slavic?

I think meteor is relatively useless in close range due to its ramjet engine, whereas irist has relatively longer range for an ir missile

Gripen RCS is massively lower IRL than as modeled in DCS. it's an SU killer.

The Meteor has a Maximum range of 200 km, R-37 is said to have a 150-398 km range. How can you say that you (with Meteors) can outrange the Flanker?
