I had kidney stones years ago and do not wish to experience this again. I started drinking a pressed lemon juice diluted in a quart gallon of water (1 liter) every day. I started in the morning with a glass and continued all day long. After one year I went to see the nephrologist for a checkup. He told me that my kidneys were now in the right size and working well. He added I do not know what you are doing, but it is working, and you do not need surgery anymore. After 8 years, I do not have experienced any kidney issues.

I've had 4 kidney stones in the past 4 years. Worst pain imaginable, each one lasting 20+hrs unrelenting. I nearly lost my mind and ended up in the ER each time, the last one requiring surgery. Pretty sure I have PTSD now... man, brutal.
However... I've since figured out they were caused by high uric acid levels (tested, confirmed). And once I adjusted my diet (ie. no sugar or fruit, plus lowering carbs) and added cherry supplements, it completely solved the issue.
The stones do keep coming (cleaning out the remaining I suspect), but now I feel zero pain, only briefly noticing them when they hit the toilet. I'm passing stones in my sleep now... crazy!

Now, thanks to you Dr Eric Berg (and myself for listening and applying your advice), i might just be able to live my life without the fear of having to experience this again. I did a 6 months long research on kidney stones bcs I had this problem 5 or 6 times. Each time different doctors said different things about the reason why I have this problem, so I assume they simply don`t know what is going on when you are a stone former. Only now I knew dr. Berg and in this video he summarizes all my research on this topic. If I came across this video earlier I would spare a lot of work.

My neighbor suffers from chronic kidney stones and went on a restricted diet. She had CAT scan a few weeks back and had 10 stones. One was getting ready to pass and she started to take FlowMax. She started to use Chanca Piedra, a Peruvian herb, and within two weeks, the stones she had appeared to disappear. Her doctor is aware of this and will monitor her progress. She was starting to pass a large stone and she doesn't know where it went. She is planning a follow-up CAT scan in two weeks to get a confirmation. This is something to look into further.

I had kidney stones for several years 25 yrs ago. Had to have surgery once and lithotripsy several times … never had bad pain or passed a stone! The last one had to be left to grow because they couldn’t remove it and I waited 15 yrs and went back to dr and it was size of quarter and still no pain! Did litho with stent to get the small particles that passed without them clumping up… stent hurt so bad but in 6 weeks it was removed and I’ve never had a stone since in 20 yrs as far as I know. I take supplements now that I never did before and I’m 81 and excellent health… no meds so far! 🙏🙏

A tip for others; coffee is high in oxalates and is often drunk with milk. If you drink a lot of this green tea might be a better alternative (moderate oxalates, high in antioxidants). Studies also show green tea has some potential for helping reduce kidney stones.

    • @bricbradford4165
      @bricbradford4165 2 роки тому +12

Tea (especially non-green tea) is also high in Oxalates - especially when purchased as "Sweet tea" as most US manufacturers add Corn syrup as the sweetener which has a lot of other negative effects on your health. Sugar is also bad in combination because it binds together to create a synergistically bad Oxalate combination. Heavy soda drinkers (both regular and diet) are highly prone to kidney stone formation.
I do agree that green tea WITHOUT sweetener is "technically" a better choice than coffee with cream but drink it black and not in excess and there are many worse drink/food choices than coffee, which actually has other positive health benefits as does "true" green tea. I drink black coffee but counterbalance with drinking close to a gallon of water per day. I also add Braggs Organic ACV (with the mother) for its many benefits ( but one is to help with kidney stone formation - 2TBSP per day is plenty.)

I've had my first kidney stone when I was just 10 years old, I am now 28 years old. I've been hospitalized for them several times until I was finally 18 and cut off all the drinks and stuck to just water. I know pain that no child, or even adult should have to experience (biggest stone was just over 10mm). I still chronically make them but they're far easier to deal with as I pass them before they get too big. but at least once a month I will feel a slight pain on one of my sides, especially in moments of high activity and dehydration, or if I drink/eat high oxalate foods. I am terrified of what the accumulated damage from them will lead to when I'm older. I've probably passed a minimum of 50 in my life already. I did not know about the cheese thing, or the flora, i will be looking into that. Any other supplemental things I could take that wouldn't have negative side effects that could minimize their formation?

Hi, Dr. Berg. I am interested in following your advice on healthy keto and IF. I do form kidney stones. One thing you don’t mention in this video is hyperparathyroidism. I am learning your parathyroid is the gland which regulates the calcium in your body. This is a condition which I am currently being evaluated for. Would keto be okay with this condition?

Good job! Now, next you need to remember all of the above and then add Phytate content of foods which counteract oxalates, b vitamins which also counteract, and address solvable oxalate as opposed to insoluble oxalate. Also, avocado is our (a stoner’s) best friend. It is NOT a high oxalate food.. You were wrong in another video when you said it was high. Pumpkin seeds are very important to stoner’s, too. And, the fermented foods with their probiotics. Not sure about natto, though

One thing I would like to know more about is "how long does it take to form a kidney stone?" I developed one just last December. I was in the emergency room when it finally became dislodged and I was able to pass it. To my disappointment, it was not saved so I could not determine what kind it was. It is possible to think back to what could have caused the problem but my biggest issue is time. I was on a slightly less than clean Keto diet for a year probably at most. I had no idea about oxalate heavy foods and I did eat plenty of spinach, chocolate, and nuts, almonds included while on the diet. I have been notorious when it comes to drinking water, in that I did drink very little water for decades, I never bought into the constant drinking of water and I live in an arid environment. Much of my skin problems have diminished because of this diet and continue to do so on a daily basis. My cholesterol has gone from somewhat high to in good range with both "good" and "bad".
The diet has worked well beyond any expectations. I have lost much of the extra weight I was carrying, I feel healthier, I have the stamina of my 20 - 30 year junior, I'm in as good of shape I was 20 - 30 years ago and it has changed my life forever. I only eat whole, high-quality foods now and the difference is real. But..... I am incredibly anxious about kidney stones. Every pain or discomfort in the vicinity of the kidneys or intestines or groin makes me worry about another kidney stone, it is draining at times. The missing piece right now is how that one formed and I know that there are others in there. Was it my years of dehydration, the new diet, likely a combination of things but nothing has helped me put some handle on the possibilities. Do we actually have any data or information on the time it takes to form a kidney stone? I'm not looking for absolutes I'm just looking for more information that leads to a better understanding.

Dr Berg, I'm in a very difficult situation right now and if you see this I would very much appreciate some advice.
I have just been diagnosed with mild erosive gastritis about a month ago and I also have kidney stones.
I was advised to go on a gastritis diet and take antacids. The majority of the things I have been consuming on this diet are high in oxalates and I can't consume high fat or citric products because they make my gastritis flare up.

Your explanation make me confuse whether to take or not to take that as a food to avoid forming stones in the kidney. As an example, if we eat citrus food, it reduce the amount of calcium but still the amount of oxalates helps to form a stone because no more calcium in the food to reduce oxalates.

One addition I would make is that excess animal protein can increase the amount of calcium in the urine. I've had multiple kidney stones over many years. I went to see a specialist, regarded as one of the leading experts in kidney stones. He wanted to have me take a medication that would block my body from absorbing calcium. This seemed crazy to me, so I searched for information and found the research about excess animal protein and calcium. I cut back on animal protein and haven't had a kidney stone since.

People!! I would highly recommend to add boron and selenium!! They're involved in calcium metabolism. I was having pain in adrenals and kidneys taking calcium when was deficient in selenium/boron. It's because when they're low calcium goes in soft tissue
But be careful because boron can induce fluoride detox, iodine and vitamin C help with that.
I also noticed all fat soluble vitamins (A,E,D,K2) deplete boron. Especially E and K2. Vitamin A helps to absorb boron but may need extra boron in days when you take it (like vitamin D absorbs magnesium, but when you take D you have magnesium inhibited)

Are you experiencing any other symptoms? I had hyperparathyroidism which is caused by a tumor, (usually not cancerous), that causes the calcium from your bones to be extracted and deposited in soft tissue. I had multiple kidney stones - several over 13mm -- and stones in my salivary glands which unlike kidney stones, which can be dealt with lithotripsy, had to be surgically removed. I, like you, drink copious amounts of water and have moderate intake of food high in oxalates. Look up hyperparathyroidism and see if you are suffering any other symptoms. I got very sick with this condition before I finally had surgery to remove the tumor. I hope you don't have this condition, but it is readily overlooked by most doctors and even endocrinologists who should be more aware.
