A tip for others; coffee is high in oxalates and is often drunk with milk. If you drink a lot of this green tea might be a better alternative (moderate oxalates, high in antioxidants). Studies also show green tea has some potential for helping reduce kidney stones.
Tea (especially non-green tea) is also high in Oxalates - especially when purchased as "Sweet tea" as most US manufacturers add Corn syrup as the sweetener which has a lot of other negative effects on your health. Sugar is also bad in combination because it binds together to create a synergistically bad Oxalate combination. Heavy soda drinkers (both regular and diet) are highly prone to kidney stone formation. I do agree that green tea WITHOUT sweetener is "technically" a better choice than coffee with cream but drink it black and not in excess and there are many worse drink/food choices than coffee, which actually has other positive health benefits as does "true" green tea. I drink black coffee but counterbalance with drinking close to a gallon of water per day. I also add Braggs Organic ACV (with the mother) for its many benefits ( but one is to help with kidney stone formation - 2TBSP per day is plenty.)

I've had my first kidney stone when I was just 10 years old, I am now 28 years old. I've been hospitalized for them several times until I was finally 18 and cut off all the drinks and stuck to just water. I know pain that no child, or even adult should have to experience (biggest stone was just over 10mm). I still chronically make them but they're far easier to deal with as I pass them before they get too big. but at least once a month I will feel a slight pain on one of my sides, especially in moments of high activity and dehydration, or if I drink/eat high oxalate foods. I am terrified of what the accumulated damage from them will lead to when I'm older. I've probably passed a minimum of 50 in my life already. I did not know about the cheese thing, or the flora, i will be looking into that. Any other supplemental things I could take that wouldn't have negative side effects that could minimize their formation?

Hi, Dr. Berg. I am interested in following your advice on healthy keto and IF. I do form kidney stones. One thing you don’t mention in this video is hyperparathyroidism. I am learning your parathyroid is the gland which regulates the calcium in your body. This is a condition which I am currently being evaluated for. Would keto be okay with this condition?

Thank you, Dr. Berg. My girlfriend’s daughter is having problems with kidney stones and the doctors do not understand why. I’m sending this to her immediately. You truly are a God send. 🌟💖
Good job! Now, next you need to remember all of the above and then add Phytate content of foods which counteract oxalates, b vitamins which also counteract, and address solvable oxalate as opposed to insoluble oxalate. Also, avocado is our (a stoner’s) best friend. It is NOT a high oxalate food.. You were wrong in another video when you said it was high. Pumpkin seeds are very important to stoner’s, too. And, the fermented foods with their probiotics. Not sure about natto, though
I apologize for this inconvenience. Will look into this so please stay tuned. In the meantime please visit the website for more information. www.drberg.com/
So not sugar 🤔? I think this is the first video that I've ever seen of yours where sugar was not the primary culprit 🤔. Thanks again Dr. Berg, I'll let my nephew know. He's prone to developing kidney stones 😟.
One thing I would like to know more about is "how long does it take to form a kidney stone?" I developed one just last December. I was in the emergency room when it finally became dislodged and I was able to pass it. To my disappointment, it was not saved so I could not determine what kind it was. It is possible to think back to what could have caused the problem but my biggest issue is time. I was on a slightly less than clean Keto diet for a year probably at most. I had no idea about oxalate heavy foods and I did eat plenty of spinach, chocolate, and nuts, almonds included while on the diet. I have been notorious when it comes to drinking water, in that I did drink very little water for decades, I never bought into the constant drinking of water and I live in an arid environment. Much of my skin problems have diminished because of this diet and continue to do so on a daily basis. My cholesterol has gone from somewhat high to in good range with both "good" and "bad". The diet has worked well beyond any expectations. I have lost much of the extra weight I was carrying, I feel healthier, I have the stamina of my 20 - 30 year junior, I'm in as good of shape I was 20 - 30 years ago and it has changed my life forever. I only eat whole, high-quality foods now and the difference is real. But..... I am incredibly anxious about kidney stones. Every pain or discomfort in the vicinity of the kidneys or intestines or groin makes me worry about another kidney stone, it is draining at times. The missing piece right now is how that one formed and I know that there are others in there. Was it my years of dehydration, the new diet, likely a combination of things but nothing has helped me put some handle on the possibilities. Do we actually have any data or information on the time it takes to form a kidney stone? I'm not looking for absolutes I'm just looking for more information that leads to a better understanding.

Dr Berg, I'm in a very difficult situation right now and if you see this I would very much appreciate some advice. I have just been diagnosed with mild erosive gastritis about a month ago and I also have kidney stones. I was advised to go on a gastritis diet and take antacids. The majority of the things I have been consuming on this diet are high in oxalates and I can't consume high fat or citric products because they make my gastritis flare up. I can feel a kidney stone starting to form, I have been drinking water and I don't know what to do in order to help myself get better at this point. I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't.
Your explanation make me confuse whether to take or not to take that as a food to avoid forming stones in the kidney. As an example, if we eat citrus food, it reduce the amount of calcium but still the amount of oxalates helps to form a stone because no more calcium in the food to reduce oxalates.
One addition I would make is that excess animal protein can increase the amount of calcium in the urine. I've had multiple kidney stones over many years. I went to see a specialist, regarded as one of the leading experts in kidney stones. He wanted to have me take a medication that would block my body from absorbing calcium. This seemed crazy to me, so I searched for information and found the research about excess animal protein and calcium. I cut back on animal protein and haven't had a kidney stone since.
Hello Dr. Berg, I am Willy from Peru. I watched another video from you where drinking water with lemon would help to reduce the acidic ph of the body. Thank you. I've had many stones over the years and two ended in surgery because they were 10mm and 13mm. It sucks. Thank you for this information. I've always worried being on keto and getting more stones.
Damn, those are big stones. I have passed around 15 stones over the last 5 years and luckily they have all been under 6mm. Have you found anything that has helped?
@@hunterdean4766 Luck, that's all. But I'll be doing the lemon juice if it happens again. I did, however find that getting in my knees and using my elbows on my couch to stretch my back helped alleviate the pain. It only hurts when it's moving. Those big ones didn't move far before being lodged. When you get pain, just push yourself up with your elbows somehow staying vertical...if that makes sense.

Been dealing with stones for years. I currently have 2 left 3mm each. I will be doing the lemon water regimen along with my meds. I will update in a few weeks to see how it goes.
People!! I would highly recommend to add boron and selenium!! They're involved in calcium metabolism. I was having pain in adrenals and kidneys taking calcium when was deficient in selenium/boron. It's because when they're low calcium goes in soft tissue But be careful because boron can induce fluoride detox, iodine and vitamin C help with that. I also noticed all fat soluble vitamins (A,E,D,K2) deplete boron. Especially E and K2. Vitamin A helps to absorb boron but may need extra boron in days when you take it (like vitamin D absorbs magnesium, but when you take D you have magnesium inhibited)
I've had 3 kidney stones in the last month. Luckily they have all been smaller than 3mm and passed very easily. I drink lots of water and don't eat any of the food that you mentioned is high in oxalates. It's very annoying.
Are you experiencing any other symptoms? I had hyperparathyroidism which is caused by a tumor, (usually not cancerous), that causes the calcium from your bones to be extracted and deposited in soft tissue. I had multiple kidney stones - several over 13mm -- and stones in my salivary glands which unlike kidney stones, which can be dealt with lithotripsy, had to be surgically removed. I, like you, drink copious amounts of water and have moderate intake of food high in oxalates. Look up hyperparathyroidism and see if you are suffering any other symptoms. I got very sick with this condition before I finally had surgery to remove the tumor. I hope you don't have this condition, but it is readily overlooked by most doctors and even endocrinologists who should be more aware.

From my studies - coffee is not high in Oxalates.
Coffee is an inflammatory drug and it can cause major discomfort during a very bad flare up.
I suggest you study more...lol

Hello Dr.Eric Berg. A very lovely good evening to you. Recently I started watching and also following your incredible nutritional based info videos. It's great and indeed I bagged positive results during my keto and IF diet regime. I would be so glad, pls if you could make a video on how to loose weight for cardiac arrest patients. 9:45 he meant Potassium Citrate. Not calcium citrate. Just to clear up any confusion
Hmm. I thought he meant either. Or, even Magnesium Citrate. Its a lot of info. Definitely, to be re-watched.
Lots of Water WITH electrolytes asc citrates, ACV, lemon or lime juice, reduce oxylates add cheese to spinach etc, bok choy (no oxylates!), Magnesium, leafy greens, POTASSIUM not sodium salt, K2 supplements or sauerkraut, etc especially if consuming high vitamin D for other reasons
Thanks a lot doc. Waiting for a similar guide about gallbladder stones.
My question is, even if the gallbladder is NOT been removed so shall we take bile salt before going keto as a beginning to stay on the safe side. Its urgent. Regards
this will be a good idea - working on it now. You should take bile salts and do keto and just not add extra fat
Thank you so so much 🌹🌹

@@FurkanGlr7 I have heard it takes a month but during this time you want to take herbs to help attack the candida. Personally I did a prolonged fast of 3-4 days whilst taking NusaPure Candida cleanse. I also drank a lot of pau d'arco tea and ate a lot of green veggies with garlic. Also no alcohol too (ethanol is sugar). The longer you have candida the more likely it is going to be inside your cells in the cytoplasm hence why it is hard to draw out.

I am learning your parathyroid is the gland which regulates the calcium in your body. This is a condition which I am currently being evaluated for. Would keto be okay with this condition?

Is Lemon water effective for uric acid stones? It wasn’t really made clear in the video. Thank you! Great video Dr Berg.
Any lemon, dawg

Hi there. Sorry to hear about your problem. Sharing my videos here on gastritis: www.youtube.com/@Drberg/search?query=gastritis
Watched this video, had the sudden urge to drink more water. 🤳
I think your presentations are Awesome; and I just shared a web link to this clip with a buddy has this challenge; writing from Northern California.
Thank God u l free from them now those years u were experiencing kidney stone how did you manage to remove they
Thanks how much K2

People!! I would highly recommend to add boron and selenium!! They're involved in calcium metabolism. I was having pain in adrenals and kidneys taking calcium when was deficient in selenium/boron. It's because when they're low calcium goes in soft tissue
But be careful because boron can induce fluoride detox, iodine and vitamin C help with that.
I also noticed all fat soluble vitamins (A,E,D,K2) deplete boron. Especially E and K2. Vitamin A helps to absorb boron but may need extra boron in days when you take it (like vitamin D absorbs magnesium, but when you take D you have magnesium inhibited)
Where's the link to oxilate containing foods?
