Ah! pentatonic scale we meet once more! my genre of choice is metal but I've listened and enjoyed listening to a lot of stuff over the years and wondered why this song is now a guilty pleasure of mine. Thanks for breaking the song down for us!
His album kiss land is very eastern inspired and a lot of the songs on there have moments where it’s only written within a pentatonic collection. It’s currently my favorite album of all time
Another fantastic perspective... I enjoy these... Like many... I just enjoy understanding ways in which music is created... Participation is only part of the journey... The hours of sheer listening are invaluable...
Before my I laid my old eyes on the Weeknd and all his synth I had him pegged as a skinny british white guy with nerd glass's, baggy pants and a ton of hair jel . Before I laid my eyes on Teddy Swims I had the vocals down to some kind of Ella Fitzgerald black lady . How good to see such simple and brilliant music being written again by unlikely but very talented people .
Thanks Carl that was outstanding I learn more from that than I have from any of my music teachers LOL I find that you are very easy to listen to I could only wish that I would have had someone like you as a guitar teacher in my younger days👍👍👍🎸😎🎶
I came to the weekend late. For me it wasn’t the structure of the music but for some reason he has this intense Korean I don’t give a crap vibe. There is a freedom, an intense freedom I feel when I listen to it. He literally makes me feel I can run into a wall and push through.
Hey Carl, a little off topic but I think some folks would appreciate it if you did a video on your Les Paul. There was a post recently on the Gibson Les Paul forum on Facebook that showed a picture of you with your Les Paul, people were commenting on your guitar and how what appears to be a Standard has a Custom neck (inlay in the 1st fret) and possibly an ebony finger board? it is very rare to see this. Anywho, I think a video would be really cool . Back on topic, for a song breakdown suggestion, how about Another Brick In the Wall, Pink Floyd. Cheers, Karl (my name as well 🙂)
Hello Carl! Phenomenal work! ^_^ I'm in love with your Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin deep analysis. Great look of how to achieve tone, on songs deconstruction, habits... Do you think you could expand this with other great guitar players? Seeing Bluesbreakers era Clapton or Jeff Beck from your perspective would be great! :)
Nie wiem jak Carl osiąga brzmienie Page'a, ale dopiero co go znalazłem i jestem w szoku -___- Chciałbym zobaczyć jak rozbija na czynniki pierwsze coś od SRV.
I hope I'm not repeating myself w/this suggestion, but I'd really appreciate you dissecting "Denial Revisited" by Offspring. Sadly, it's a song I don't think they've ever played live. (My theory as to why is that it would be too difficult to sing live). It's such a sleeper song, I've always wondered why it wasn't a big hit (?) It's also one of only a handful of songs I learned to play on guitar; of those, the one I found most fun to play. Cheers, happy new year.
Okay Carl, we're gonna have a fight here now! I knew about the golden ratio, but I never applied it to music. The very first thing I did after you mentioned the time ratio is that I figured out what 61% of 8 minutes and 3 seconds is. Golden Ratio applies to Stairway to Heaven! I cannot fathom the irony. 5:29-31 is roughly the mark, and at 5:29 exactly is where Jimmy hits the final F arpeggio into the Fanfare section before the solo. My brain hurts.
I feel ashamed that I’ve been listening to music for 30 years and never realized or heard anything about the golden ratio in music. That’s crazy. The closest I’ve come is probably Tool using the Fibonacci Sequence on Lateralus. Not really at all the same thing but there’s math-ish stuff in both 😂🖤
Carl,, I am probably your biggest fan..and there is one Guitarist that there is almost no good analyzation of on youtube. He has been the toughest guy to accurately reproduce,,also probably the most versatile player around..How bout a promise that one day you will start picking apart Steve Howe?
This Is Great! How About Some Jeff Beck, Miles Davis or John McLaughlin? To Me: The Sounds Write The Songs At Times. Sonics & Atmosphere Make A Huge Difference To Me!
Hi Carl. I loved the video and, yes, we'd love more of these analyses from you. It's certainly a catchy song though the auto-tuned vocal is not to my liking.
Now i also would like see your do “Save Your Tears” from the weeknd as well
I’ll give it a listen. Thank you for writing. Would you mind sharing my video around to anybody you think might dig it? Peace. Carl
Absolutely brilliant analysis thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Carl..that was interesting and incredibly entertaining…yes, please do more of these!!!
This was the shortest 17 minutes I ever been through, you had my attention all along, fantastic work sir, fantastic.
The Weeknd Dawn FM reaction/review???? I’m here for it. The Weeknd discography reactions always bring tons of viewers haha.
Great work! Expert level
Thank you!
It is a great explanation of modern music broken down for this particular piece. A master class!
Thanks for your analysis, I really enjoyed what you talked about the golden ratio. Subscribed
Awesome video! We need more of these
Great job!!!

I'm glad a fellow seasoned rocker likes or lets say appreciates the new stuff. I think he's a bit of a genius.
Sent this to Abel! Thanks for reviewing it!
Incredible breakdown

Has a new wave vibe. Not my thing but I have an understanding now, would love your insight on Van Halen.
this is great info, keep doing this! 👍🔥
Awesome breakdown. I recommend doing a live reaction to his "After Hours" then "Dawn FM" album. That's a perfect place to start.
Came back just to tell you "An Evening With Silk Sonic" is a must too. My notifications for your channel have now been turned on can't wait

The weekend - in your eyes, call out my name. (That last one is more RnB)
its definitely overplayed but its an amazing song , ell constructed and everythin else is also really well done

Very good song!
Wow - learnt more about writing pop songs in 18 minutes than in 40 years!
Whomever is doing your video and editing really knows their stuff stuff! I almost feel as if I know them !
So great. Really appreciate this! I’ll let Billy know!
Great video Carl. How about Lingus by Snarky Puppy.
great

The adults are talking by the strokes
Recent song with lots of of back and forth between guitars. Would love to hear your breakdown of it.
Synthpop revival!

I thought Golden Ratio sang “radar love”…no, wait, that was Golden Earring…never mind 😳
Why did this song have such an 80s Brit pop feel to it? For those of us who lived through that era, it's unmistakable. Thx. 🙏
Reminds me of the song Get Lucky. Just a super simple repeating chord progression.
I’ll check it out!
If you would like to react to an artist you may not have heard of, I recommend the artist Aesthetic Perfection with the song Dead Zone
You're so handsome and classy 😍
