I was about 5 or 6 when I played it (Along with my cousin) as a rental cart from Blockbuster and the parents never bought the game. It was until near end of 2014, I found the game with manual at about $35 to $50 (Criminal cheap, I know...) on eBay. Felt so much joy when I now had the game in my grasp
I grew up renting it, too. Mid-2000s & the Hollywood Video that I'd rent it from was going out of business & was having a clearance sale. I was able to buy this game then, with a clean front & back sticker plus its box & manual for I can't remember how much but I want to say right around $15. I'm SO glad I rode my bike up to their going out of business sale when I did as even after renting it the first time I immediately kept my eyes open for any place that might be selling it but I never saw it available for purchase on any store shelves new.
Glenn- you’re probably the most friendly, personable retro UA-camr on the platform. Been watching you for the past 4 years, keep doing what you do best buddy
i found out about this game when i started collecting for the n64 a few years back. When i started playing i got hooked. In my opinion this is one of the most underrated games on the system. I had more fun with this game than with some classics that everyone talks about.
I played this game and rented it at Movie Gallery back in my original hometown. I love it I also like the show too. This game deserves the remastered videogames treatment. I would love to see it used for PS3 and PS4 and PS5.
I rented this game so many times, and then bought it when movie gallery closed. I still have the movie gallery case with the sticker on the cart too haha
I agree this game has its problems, but its actually one of my favorites for the system and was a frequent rental alongside Banjo Kazooie and Tooie. I recently went back to it and had a blast!
Here to let you know that your n64 review series is brilliant. It’s been going for a decade but they’re my favorite videos to watch. Listen to while I walk my dog, going to sleep, or intently watching. You sir are scintillating entertainer
I rented this back in the day. It was, for some reason. The only game available at that particular shop to rent, so I reluctantly rented it for a weekend. It was quite enjoyable and fun
Ah this one takes me back! I believe I was 6 years old and my mom took me to blockbuster and being a fan of Daffy Duck I immediately wanted to rent it for the 5 day period. I took it home and popped it in and was blown away by the true to show graphics, for the time period this looked GREAT! The humor was there, the characters were there, and four things have been burned in my mind the last 21 years since. That’s the face of Marvin the Martian carved into the moon, the little Jawa looking guys in the first world, the gossamer running at you and through the wall into the blackness of space in the spaceship level, and the New York City world with the thugs who would shake you upside down for money! I loved this game when I rented it
I’ve been looking for this game for years, but it’s so rare to find. As many people here, rented it back in the day when I was a kid. It was such a cool game!
I rented this back in the day all the time until my local video store went out of business but I was able to buy that cartridge from them. I love this game still today it’s great 😊
Given the number of games I still need to complete on this system, I gotta say the shorter length of this title is quite attractive. I'll add it to my "pick up if I see it at a decent price" list. Great review!
Glenn good video as usual 👍 However I’m a bit confused by the comment that the frame rate is rock solid. It looks like there is clear slow down in some areas. For example at 5:14 in the video. Besides that the game looks decent
"Here in PAL we got Daffy Duck Starring Duck Dodgers" Seriously, what is behind all these bizarre, apparently totally arbitrary name changes? Did they round up the weirdest consumers of each region into focus groups and A/B test prospective game titles?
I've had this game since I was a kid. Once you get used to the slightly slippery controls, I'd say it's a nice little gem. I'd say the length is just fine. It can actually get pretty tough at tines (I hate that tennis minigame).
Being a childhood game since I first started 1st grade in elementary school, I gotta say it continues to be one of my favorites of the n64. Having spent hours trying to get through the Lost Garden on Planet J and the Space Zone on Planet X was a huge pain but I really enjoyed vandalizing the History Museum with the Ray Gun.
Though I'd been a life long fan of Duck Dodgers at that point, I avoided this title. Can't remember why exactly, but this really does look great. Might pick up a copy, IF I can find it on the cheap.
Absolutely loved this game and I'm happy you've decided to review it. I rented this game long ago and decided to replay it recently to see if it held up. I think it's a nice little treat for anyone who's exhausted just about every other platformer on the system, Mario, Banjo, DK64, Rayman, Glover, etc. Sure, it's not the best platformer on the system, but it more than scratches that itch and can fill the niche better than some platformers on other consoles. It's more than worth a try for anyone who's enjoyed Bugs Bunny Lost in Time on PS1.
Thank you for this review, this was my childhood Blockbuster title I always got. I knew that this game was good and that it wasn't nostalgia blindness. I wish that I can find it, one of the hardest N64 games to collect!
It was nearly impossible to buy new even when it was released. I'm sure some copies hit store shelves but after I first rented it I looked & looked everywhere & NEVER found a new copy for sale. I got extremely lucky and in the mid-2000s when the rental place I discovered it at went out of business I was able to pick up the game, with clean front & back stickers, its box, & manual all for about $15. This wasn't a rental exclusive game like Indiana Jones or Stunt Racer but IMO it was the very next closest thing which is why I think so many people have fond memories of it but never secured it for their collections. One of, if not, my favorite N64 game!
I actually started playing through this game last year, and I found it surprisingly fun to play. Sure it has flaws, but it was enjoyable enough, and I liked the music. Never seen the Duck Dodgers cartoon, but I like the Looney Tunes, and this game did not disappoint.
I've been watching your reviews and it got me to dust off the N64 :) I've really been enjoying rediscovering these games! Duck Dodgers is now a fav of mine (if only you could save more often XD) ahh the troubles of 2000 haha Thanks for the great content!
For a weekend rental, this was shockingly good game. I expected a gex64/croc clone but it was actually fun and ran well. It’s not something I think I’d care to play now but back then when mom would rent a game for me without me being there, she did well picking this!
Way back when, I used to work at a video game store and we had a copy of this sitting in our Collector section for years. After watching this, I wish I had given it a try. It doesn't look half bad.
For some reason, I thought this game was pal-only. Super don't remember seeing it around as a kid. Nice fair review, Glenn. You're really knocking down all the last remaining games you haven't reviewed yet! Only ones I can really think of off the top of my head are the 2nd Castlevania game, Tonic Trouble, and Blues Brothers, although I'm sure there are others. Exciting to see.
Its games like this I wish would be added the 64 expansion on the Switch. So many great games I absolutely would have loved back in the 64 days had I known of and had the money for them. There was at least 3 stores in my town that would rent 64 games back then but I never saw games like this, the Xena game or the second Castlevania game in their stores ever.
Been looking forward to this review. I completed this game a few years back and loved it! Glad it's in my collection. Just wish the price remained reasonable so many others could experience it. Judging from the comments, seems like most folks wouldn't have played this unless they rented it back in the day.
Well balanced review mate. I can't defend the camera it is a pain often but the controls while sensitive at the start can be gotten used to after not too long, for me at least. I was surprised when you said it took 12 hours to complete as I think I had it down in around 8 the first time I played it. I've been meaning to make a video on this game for a couple of years now, I truly see it as the definition of a hidden gem. It's got pretty much everything I'd want in a platformer. The visuals btw look great in this video but I believe you have a hdmi mod, while even with s-video on a CRT this game is rather blurry. Again you do adjust to it over time. However playing this on an emulator is amazing. Really makes the game much fresher.
Hmmm. I've tried this, but not really played many levels. May be i need to give this game second chance. Looks like to be solid title on this review...
does this reminds anyone of Bugs Bunny Lost In Time for the PS2? it sure does for me, i never heard of this but im going to give it a try thanks to this video
2:10 I thought it *was* a genuine episode... well, kind of. While they did splice in elements from other episodes (Marvin wanting to blow up the Earth), a few of the scenes here are, as far as I can remember, taken shot-for-shot and/or word-for-word from the original Duck Dodgers episode. I've wanted this game for a while, but it's not easy to find for a reasonable price. Love the presentation, and there aren't enough games with Marvin anyway. :P Another potential plus: In typical Paradigm fashion, it runs at a variable frame rate up to 60: While the N64 can't actually hold a steady 60fps here, it still means that there's no slowdown to be seen (as it just skips over some frames instead), and also that it runs like a dream on emulators.
I remember this one. Me and my bros rented it one time. I didn't actually play it though. Just watched my brother play it. I think there was something wrong with our copy though, it wouldn't save our progress so we jus played the same level over and over again. It was a one time rental. Funny, we ended up renting Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker more than this. I'm pretty sure this is better.
The game's storyline is fitting for a movie though in addition to Marvin the martian it would have a live action viliain Duck Dodgers had been after in the past
