I don't remember how I discovered this incredible woman. I think I had one of her KEXP performances recommended to me by UA-cam. Whatever the case, she led me to Maggie Rogers (long before she hosted SNL), and Phoebe Bridgers, the latter of whom led me to boygenius, Lucy Dacus, Better Oblivion Community Center, and Conor Oberst. I too am a huge Springsteen fan and own all of his records save Western Stars. If there's one album I could be in the studio to see made it would be Skeleton Tree by Nick Cave.
im surprised more female musicians are not juliana hatfield fans..i met alicia from bully and i brought up JH and she was like i nvr heard of her til people started comparing me to her...LOL
you guys know the album isn't funeral pyre and that was only a single? This mistake was made on her intro and on the outro when giving credits. seems pretty sloppy.
You're right, that was my mistake. I think I just grabbed the latest release from her bandcamp and never replaced it with the album artwork. Thanks for the correction, you're the first in 8477 people to say anything!
I like your channel man but whats the point of interviewing these cultureless kiddies and musical non-entities whose points of reference in over 60 years of popular music are acts like fall out boy and my chemical romance? come on............
"over 60 years of popular music" doesn't mean much to someone in their twenties. Everyone has an era that they grew up in. Nothing wrong with not knowing everything about stuff before your time.
Jeez, she was talking about scales and learning guitar and what she was listening to when she was twelve. Then she referenced Fleetwood Mac and Springsteen. "cultureless kiddies and musical non-entities" - sorry but you sound old and bitter. And you like Paul Joseph Watson...
The hell, dude? She name-dropped Springsteen, Fleetwood Mac, Robert Johnson and Django Reinhardt. Clearly she's aware of musical history and interested in it. Is there something wrong with also enjoying, and recommending, contemporary artists? Also note that this particular musical non-entity released a critically acclaimed album this year which made many year- end top music lists.
hahaha you sound fucking sad man. wake up dude. we re not in the 60s or 70s anymore. nothing wrong with listening to old stuff, i do listen to some old music too but man, the world is changing and things are evolving, if you wanna stay paralyzed in the past, okay, but dont talk shit about the people who just wanna to evolve
Bro she was talking about the music she listened to when she was 12. Plus anyway, who says who can't like fall out boy, Radiohead, John Coltrane, velvet underground or whoevers music at the same time.
Just to keep the interview shorter: Charles and Julien started talking about Bruce Springsteen's music being co-opted by American politicians for their rallies etc and that went on for quite a while. It didn't seem as relevant to the conversation as what was said earlier. Julien has a lot to say about many things (she's a wonderfully articulate person) but time allows for only so much in one episode! Big thanks for watching all the way thru though: always good to see people taking in the entire interview. Cheers! MRH
In case you're interested we decided to post her answer as an additional video. The full Bruce Springsteen response: ua-cam.com/video/OGfgA8Y88VY/v-deo.html

She's so polite and sweet and cute omg
the greatest contribution my chemical romance, green day and fall out boy (collectively) have contributed to music is teaching her to play guitar
