Acetone is not alcohol. It is a solvent. Maybe that’s why it’s drying so fast.
Hi Tina! Beautiful creations as always. Note that the acetone is designed to eat through nail polish and acrylic. Meaning it is also destroying the bottle and the spray mechanism inside which is why it wouldn’t come out. You truly need isopropyl alcohol and not acetone. It’s very accessible on Amazon as IPA as it’s used for gel polishes as well.
Hey, Tina, the acetone is a ‘ketone’ and not an alcohol. It helped remove some of the initial alcohol colour. The isopropyl alcohol is an ‘alcohol’, as the name suggests. Alcohol and blending solution are two different chemicals;however, they do a similar job, in terms of moving the alcohol around your paper. As others have said, you can do this directly onto card. When you do this you can spritz the paper first, with alcohol, or blending solution, and then add ink directly to paper, or add it to inking dauber and then add your solution to the pad, finally and wetted ink to paper. I hope this helps and gives you some further techniques to try. 😄
I have a traumatic brain injury, which suddenly made me really interested in math and science -- don't ask me how, or to do the math, but suddenly I was able to understand the math behind quantum physics -- so I loved your explanation of the different properties of the chemical compounds, because, this is rank speculation, but I think the "glue" industry, realizing the "art" community is now a bunch of billions of dollars, probably thanks to Tim Holtz -- ha -- but a lot of companies are beginning to offer glues with acetone added. Part of my brain injury is damage to my short-term memory, and every time I see a bottle of fingernail polish remover, I mean to do my own experimenting with adding it to just regular Elmer's white school glue (a wonderful product on its own), but then I'll forget why I was walking into the kitchen cabinet where I store things like that -- ha -- my son's previous girlfriend kept nicking the bottle of nail polish remover from the bathroom, which I used mainly for super glue removal -- ha -- as with baking, I think science is slowly making its way into the crafting community. It's so easy, and cheap, to make your own chalk paint and gesso -- for gesso, just go to the dollar tree, or other cheap cheap vitamin aisle and buy calcium, crush it up into fine particles, and add it to acrylic paint, with a little of the Elmer's (you don't have to buy Elmer's, but during school supply sales in Aug., you can get this huge gallon container for under 10 bucks at Walmart) -- but you can make instant gesso with any color -- walmart has the small bottles of acrylic paint for 50 cents. Gosh, sorry, didn't mean to prattle on, but loved your comment, and I copied it and pasted it into my artist "how to" book of tips and tricks !! Be well -- Patricia
@@3rscrafting Dear JTB, I’m so sorry to hear that you have a traumatic brain injury. However, that’s the wonderful thing about crafting, anyone can do it, even with a brain injury. 😊
Tina, Alcohol inks are designed to move upon impact as they are designed to dry almost immediately. You were fortunate with the outcomes to get any you liked.
You need 91% isopropyl alcohol. Very pretty!
Thank you, I am off to look for some x
Hi! I know several folks have pointed out that acetone is not the same as alcohol- but there are also warnings against ever putting the blending solution in a spray bottle because it contains resin and can actually stick to your lungs.
These came out gorgeous!
Are you using alcohol or acetone? Two totally different animals . For making your inks move Isopropyl alcohol is what you need with these inks . Photo paper is porous, it is made to take up the inks from your printer so alcohol inks do not move as much on it as it does on a non porous surface.
it was very painful watch you use acetone instead of alcohol but none the less very beautiful lol
I would think the acetone would eventually destroy the photo paper?
I am so sorry, I am very much at the learning stage, you are quite likely right x
Maybe the Tim Holtz videos on using alcohol inks would be useful. Blending solution should never be sprayed because it has a resin base…which would be harmful to eyes. Alcohol is the preferred experimental substance…but it is also a solvent so you are breaking down the ink. An air blowing tool should be used to move the ink around. A coffee stirring straw works great. I use a heat gun…carefully…to set designs. You are getting smudges because you are using a solvent and pressing the paper into the dissolving ink. For best results, work directly on paper and use something that moves small amounts of air to create “marks”. And have fun. Alcohol inks are amazing!
I am in USA & use alcohol inks a lot. I use one of those wooden tools like you use for inking the edges of your papers with the felt circles. Put a new one on your tool, then get your inks & put a few( 3 ) drops of each color you want to use directly on the felt Then DAB on your photo paper. You can put a few drops of your blending solution on the pad also. If you want copper or gold put it on the pad last ( just a few drops). Then go over it again. Use the same pad. You are using way too much ink!!!!!! You only need a few small drops of each color. Please try this. If you have a question please ask me. Not any mess at all !!!!!
Yes, Brenda is correct, and note FELT not foam pads - those are not the same. I would also tell you that you can’t get the alcohol inks to move very much on photo gloss paper. It’s coated to grab ink and keep it - not to allow you to move ink around (think smearing out the printer). What you need is either glossy card stock or yupo - those are non-porous and also won’t grab the ink. Then when you add your solvent, it will float across the substrate. Also acetone isn’t the necessary solvent - you really need what the states call rubbing alcohol - isopropyl - and I believe your chemist shops have that. We can buy inexpensive yupo from Grafix I think it is, and I’m sure you can find gloss card stock for less there, too. If nothing else get one pack of Tim Holtz’s yupo and gloss card stocks and try it to see the difference. Tfs.
I just watched another UA-camr who said that (I hope I can word this right) the fast drying-ness of the alcohol ink - the alcohol in it - is intentional and a specific property of the solution. I think I saw a year or more ago a recipie for making my own alcohol ink... gonna give that a try layer today... you're having FAR TOO MUCH FUN and I wanna play too. XOX MK ❤😀🏜
Oh thank you for that, I guess that makes sense, but I hadn’t heard that before, thank you x
When you sprayed the blending solution and liked the effect, applying directly to the paper would stop them from smearing together and creating the muddy effect. It would stay on the paper as it looked before adding water and the acetone and then dipping the paper. I would try directly putting on paper, using a bit less ink ( a little goes a long way) no water and definitely use alcohol not acetone. This is how the colors will move into the interesting patterns and stay that way on the paper. Vicki
Finally watching this two months after you posted! I love LOVE the gold too!! MK ❤😀🏜
It’s awesome isn’t it? X
It's always fun watching you play mad scientist!
Why not do it right on the photo paper?
When you use it doesn't take as much when you put it on the photo paper. Only a few drops will do a lot with the alcohol moving it.
I wonder if you mix the copper with the silver and see if you get a rose gold.
Nice, I might try that x
Thank you my friend kisses ♥️ ♥️ 😍 😍
Artfully abstract art by Lorrie is one of the very best artists who use alcohol inks . watch her tutorials Tina .
Tina, these are gorgeous. I’m looking forward to seeing the gesso over it as well. I see these as tags in a Boho journal. I haven’t ventured into alcohol inks. Talk about “late to the party”! lol! I think I’m ready to give this a go. Thanks for the inspiration.
I know this is the beginning of the video. I hope you flip over the photo paper. It glossy side absorbs the ink. You will be happy with the results using the wrong side of the photo paper
Any of the ones you don't like spritz with the alcohol. It will make it look like a galaxy
Thank you so much for all your tips, I really appreciate it x
By putting the inks on to the mat and then applying the card you are automatically squashing the colours together and therefore not getting the right effect, could you just not apply direct to the photo paper, just a thought, but love the results you are getting
I believe yuppo paper would work quite well.
I absolutely LOVE the green & gold! So so pretty!!!!
I love that you are willing to try so many different mediums. Your results are always great. Thanks for your great videos.
What fun alcohol ink play! Some beautiful results, Tina! TFS the inspiration!
Pretty papers. Interesting colors.
I use the inks with yupo paper that looks a lot of what you're using. Dropping the ink on the paper itself seems to give a vibrant effect.
I have heard of yupo paper, I just happened to get aload of this x
I have heard of yupo paper, I just happened to get a load of this x
I have heard of yupo paper, I just happened to get a load of this x
Absolutely gorgeous Tina!!
Maybe try less ink. Less is more sometimes. I love that you are trying this. Very good effects. I love watching you You Tube channel. Great job.
To be honest as you say a million times in your videos, the water is a no. You must use isopropyl alcohol &/ or blending solution. I think most of them came out quite nice! Also I think going directly to the paper would work better.
Hi 👋🏻 Tina, looks like your gloves are a bit big!🥰 Love the blue color! You make pretty messes!😁 Hugs!❤️
Some cool effects here and good use of what you got. Thanks for the mention. Xx
Thank you so much Andrea, you always make it look so easy 🙃, but I am loving playing x
Try putting the inks directly on the paper, possibly sprtizing a little 91% alcohol. Or drip drops of the inks on a felt applicator & dab around on the photo paper. The alcohol in the inks makes the colors blend... do it till you are happy with the result 😊
Hi Tina, these papers are pretty and very bright. I can’t wait to see what you do with them. Hugs 🤗
Wow Tina. These are awesome!!! I love them !
You need a brayer to make sure you're paper gets covered
These are pretty. I do think that alcohol is the better choice. What about a matt picture paper? I pick up picture paper at the thrift store when I see them. I have tons of it, in different sizes, matt and glossy. How would the Arteza inks work on the picture paper?
Love it Tina 😀
I love using inks. I only use alcohol and it work’s perfectly. Thanks for sharing 💕🌴😍
Alcohol inks dry out very fast. It might be easier to put the ink directly on the paper. You also won’t get the smashed together look if you apply ink to paper instead of paper to ink.
Love these. Got me to try a few again. I don't work a lot with alcohol inks as the smell of the blending solution gives me sinus. FYI a tip I learnt from Mike Deakin is if you don't like the shine paint over with clear gesso to get a matt finish. Thank you for all your great videos.
Hi, Tina, it's Patricia -- I hope you are well -=- boy, what a cool project, but I actually came to your channel and was going to use your latest video to leave this message -- but, girl, you ARE the girl. So you already know how much I love your digi kits -- I didn't realize I had printed out so many pages of "pink" so I had enough for two extra journals, and I love black and pink together -- your latest kit I purchased is the vintage tanner -- boy, do I love it !!! -- before covid isolation, one of the local thrift stores has its hardback books for 50 cents each, and paperbacks for a quarter, and I purchased this large book called the who's who in advertising. The pages are 7 by 10 inches, and good quality, and because it's not text, there are open spaces between the names, and it makes great paper to print over, so I was printing the vintage tanner on card stock, and then thought about using it to make some pockets, so I stuck a few books pages in the printer, and wowsa, did it come out cool, which led me to stick a few pages of velum, which makes the coolest effects -- I'll shoot you a link when (or if, probably is a better word -- ha) I get these journals finally uploaded -- part of my problem in getting them finished is actually caused by YOU !! Yes, YOU !! -- you know how much I truly still love ticktock, but I purchased the blue one with the lace and birtds; it's gorgeous -- and, I've printed it on fabric, as well -- I love what you did in this video. The horrendous heat the westcoast of the US has been experiencing has finally made its way to us on the eastcoast, and it is horrible -- makes it a perfect day to stay inside and craft (like that's different from any other day -- ha -- be well. I know you're tir4ed of hearing me say this, but I have such faith in you and your talent and your heart -- I know you could be the next big crafting person on british TV -- but -- the one thing I know that trumps your talent and your drive are your chlidren -- but I still think you'd be so popular if you did a segment on the British morning tv -- I think the female's name is Holly -- I watch them on youtube, and the hosts are so funny -- they had the "haunted" doll on one segment, and they put the doll in a rocking chair and suddenly the chair starts rocking -- more than a little freaky !!!! Be well, stay cool, thanks for all your hard work -- !!! Hugs, Patricia
Love your willingness to play on camera. I struggle with things coming out overly vibrant so will try Atry Maze’s suggestion. Hugs and blessings, 🇨🇦❤️🤗
What is the top, middle and bottom solutions? Do we have to buy a kit to get those? If yes, how is this helpful to us? Are you going to link to those?
Hi Tina, a fun video as always, a pleasure to see you just go for it. Foto paper and paper for working with alcohol inks is non- or less poreus than scrapbookpaper and paper with gesso. The ink will not sook in that much so this methode has different results with the foto paper. Try putting the ink directly to the paper and then use you blending solution and alcohol ( not the acetone). I like your results tough that always admire i , you get just such unexpected resulrs because you are so brave, i love it. Loving wishes Aya
Loving some of your results, even if most people were saying you were doing it wrong lol. Much love xxx
Hi tina, could you put a link on here for the blending solution and the silver and copper alcohol inks please
Are you using the back of the photo paper ? If you use the glossy part (the front) it won't move as much
I've never seen this procedure using the shiny side of the photo paper. I thought the reason could be that the paint would be absorbed more/?
yes i've always used the back, the inks just seem to stick on the shiny side and not move@@marilynbaziak532
I think you did a great job,🤗💕💕
My father used to work in a photo lab and would bring me home stacks and stacks of photo paper in all sorts of sizes... Guess what I'm doing this weekend? Lol.. Gorgeous work as always, Tina! 💖
Oh that’s awesome, have fun with your papers x
The Amazon link did not work. I was looking for the gold and bronze you showed in video. Is it available in US?
Lol how funny! I was going to try this but got yupo paper! Oh Andrea is bloomin great at backgrounds isn't she? I see someone already explained acetone/alcohol. I love my metallic ones, did know they did huge bottles! You don't need to gesso the slippery paper though. Oh blending solution is alcohol and glycerine so keeps it 'wet' and runny but water seems to work for you so why not? 😄😄😄. Less colours seem to work, that's where I tripped up. I think the blending solution goes down first, it seems to dissolve the gold. Great results going straight into the paper! Sometimes the rules can hinder creativity, you go for it! 😁😁😁 just add gold to the ones you don't like! Tfs 💖💖💖
I have better luck adding the ink directly to the paper. It comes out beautiful! You might have it too wet and that’s why it’s smearing. Just my thoughts. These are beautiful!
Yeah, I don’t understand. You initially showed a container of acetone but then refer to what’s in the spray bottle as alcohol. Which is it? Also, I’ve never seen the inks placed on a craft mat first. Very different for me but, very pretty.
Maybe using less ink and fluid and dropping them directly into the paper would achieve the looks you're going for. I'm not experienced with it, either, but just a thought as I watch you experiment. I'm sure all those papers can be used, torn down in pieces.❤️
You are so brave to make a big mess . If you come up with full sheets you can make them into digitals so we won't have to get messy. Much love❤
I spray directly into the photo paper. Then spray on the alcohol. It moves it beautiful not on the glass. Onto the photo paper. Try it. You will like it.
Thank you so much, I will try that x
you need use acholink direkt on ohotopapir , have good look off some tim holx replay off ink
Also don’t put the drops on top of one another. Put the tip of the bottle on the felt pad in different places, then do the same with the nest color. And yes it does dry fast but you can put just blending solution on the pad & go over it again. Please try this & save your inks.
this might be repetitious but aren't you supposed to use the reverse side of photo paper when doing alcohol ink??
I am very new to this and totally confused 🙁🥺
Do you spray alcohol or acetone? Because don’t think acetone and alcohol ink work together 🤔🤔
She used acetone and not alcohol....
Hey I got a bunch of photo paper that I had no idea what to do with it!! Thanks!
Just make sure you spray onto the glossy side. Not on the table. It looks like cells and things when you do directly into photo paper very cool affects.
@@bette-annflood835 I just spent $50 on Amazon for supplies. My husband is going to be thrilled. 😅
@@weallhaveanopinion you will be too. Lol. It's gorgeous when you do it Right.
Lol, have fun with your papers and new supplies x
I’m confused. Are you using alcohol or acetone? Acetone is used to remove nail polish and is not isopropyl alcohol. 🤔
She showed acetone but is calling it alcohol. I mean, it seems to be working. 🤷🏻♀️ 🤣
Use alcohol. Not acetone
Sorry I am very new to all this too, apparently you need 91% alcohol x
Shabbydabbydoodah … No worries! I’m extremely new to all of this!! I love your videos. You absolutely inspire me!
I thought you were supposed to put it on the back of photo paper ?? X
Tina a bit lighter when putting down the liquid. That might help.
Great idea Sherry, I will try that next time x
I have several videos on my channel that might help if you want some more tips.
You can add some color in the alcohol and then spritz it. It’s done like that with epoxy. When you put the color in the spray bottle you can spray it on the paper at different heights and get different effects. You can even add mica to it and get some sparkle. Use 91% alcohol. Hope this help. Love your videos. Instead of pressing the paper into the ink, try spritzing it. I think you would really like it.
Oops! I meant mica powders. Sorry.
Hi Tina, perhaps you should first google the products in the future to understand the use thereof. Acetone is not alcohol, very good to remove most glue. Nail artist use it to remove acrylic nail tips and nail polish. Hope you can get alcohol in the future.
Blending solution diy…. Alcohol 2oz with 3 drops of vegetable glycerin…shake it up. No sprays… squirt bottle.
Why didn’t you do it directly on the photo paper to start with?
I wanted to spread the ink around and didn’t feel confident about it directly on the paper xx
You need Isopropyl not Acetone that is why it was drying so quickly ...then you definitely won't need water...great how you bring us all along on your learning journey...its like you're our guinea pig if you'll pardon the expression lol xxx
is acetone the same as alcohol?!
@@lilacpenguin5329 thx. i ddnt think it was the same thing. i’m thinking this is maybe y the times she sprayed it w the acetone it was so dry. hmm. lots to think abt. thx.
No it is not, I think Tina got her words mixed up and said alcohol instead of acetone because she shown the bottle at the beginning of the video...
The problem is that you need blending solution instead of alcohol to move the gold around.
Thank you so much Tammy, I will try and remember that x
2 years later…acetone is not the same as alcohol, and you have to use the “dull” side of the photo paper, not the shiny side…
Use alcohol, not acetone. Add ink to the paper, not paper to the ink. And if using photo paper, it works best on the back side of the paper. Blending solution should NEVER be aerosolized (sprayed). It can damage your lungs with the resins it contains. True blending solution is not just alcohol as others have said. I'd even suggest putting a disclaimer at the beginning of this video, because your use of chemicals is not safe. Also empty the acetone from your plastic bottle. It's not compatible with plastic. No offense meant, just want you and those who watch to be safe.
🌺🌸❤️💐🌼🇨🇦
You need alcohol to make it move… you have blending solution, just use that….. forget the acetone ( that you keep incorrectly calling alcohol), it is not the correct product - but I love that I am not the only person to make mistakes.
Is that alcohol or acetone in the bottle? No water! Use alcohol. I don’t know if I can watch this anymore.
Alcohol.inks dry our quickly so you need to be faster putting the paper down.
It doesn't look to me like you're using anywhere near enough alcohol. The spray is really teeny.
Trina Tips lol Acetone is not Alcohol .. acetone is a faster drying solvent it's a paint stripper for "Enamel" paint like nail polish is .... ... it does give you more cells (it would be better used direct on paper not on table ... 91% Alcohol found (usually bottom shelf beauty medical isle next to peroxide) you don't meed to buy blending solution it is straight up Alcohol...not acetone when you spray the acetone in your bottle it separates the alcohol into cells... which is preferred in the art world... you would see it more if you put everything on the page instead of reversing the process like a gelli plate on your desk bc the the cell bursts would explode better... but You found a happy accident...you can also try different pressure patterns (Smooshed in ) try floating it LIGHT touch swiping on desk instead of SPLATS lol try different paper the photo paper also contributes to fast dying as made for ink used in printers try Index card stock different bleed time... and you now know drying time and patterns capability AND you had FUN x~j
Glossy side up
Acetone is not Alcohol. Best to use 99 % alcohol with alcohol inks.
Use less pressure
Don't use acetone use isopropyl 99%
Rubbing alcohol
You need to listen to what everyone is saying. Watch some videos. Sorry
Lol, thank you x
stop worrying about your fingernails and get down to business
U talk way too much before doing anything so it gets very boring
Thank you Carolann, I look forward to watching your videos x
