All I can say is thank you! I've wanted to build one of these since before I built the GTM and fitting was always what held me back. I wish I didn;t just buy a new BMW M8, so now I have to wait a little bit, but I will be building one of these! (Unless you release the F9R, in which case I will have to build both!)
Begging for a 986 Boxster based kit/rebody. Donor cars are under 10 for a mid engine flat 6 with a manual transmission. Make it look like the 904 or the 550. Love the company!! Congratulations on the MK 5.
@@somenygaard R&D Director Jim Schenck has indeed had detailed new product meetings with President Dave Smith and the 550 Porsche as well as the epic 904 have been subjects of discussion. However, I’m unaware of a discussion that mentioned the Boxster as a donor. Cool thinking!
@ That would be incredible! The 550 has options right now. But as far as the 904 I haven’t seen an affordable option. If anyone can do the 904 justice it would be Factory Five. There were probably somewhere around 150,000 986 built globally. Thanks for responding and feel free to ignore my future comments about it. I probably will continue begging.
@ I totally get it on the 904! There are a ton of 550 replicas out there, and the 356s are also plentiful and originals are crazy money. The 904 has a racing heritage and is more inline with the performance image and reality of Factory Five Racing.
A 904 wine amazing. What’s missing from the kit market is something small and lightweight that doesn’t need big power to be awesome 300-350 in a 2000lb car). Give it great looks and a roof. I’d be good with classic 904 or a modern looking reinterpretation. I’ve actually considered doing my own build of something like that but I don’t think I have the skill set to do it all.
Have you guys considered making Defender 90 kits? Those trucks are super simple, frames and bodies are readily available new….and original NAS trucks sell for $90k
I've noticed most people have a hard time getting in and out of the roadster smoothly, Mark has it down pat, it's obvious you need to be fit to get in, and out and be cool about it. I'm glad the body is made better, but it looks like only the largest guys can sit in the car without dropping down too much. It's great to have both models to choose from, to my eyes the Mk4 looks best with the average height guy
You have to realize, its very easy to space a seat up higher. Its impossible to space a seat lower when its already on the bottom of the car. And yes.. EVERYONE looks silly getting in and out of a sports car without knowing how to do it.. but you can cheeze it easier when you're smaller and fitter. For example (and I am not picking on her) the girl at the end put one foot in while sitting down, like a normal car... so she had to pick up her foot, bend her leg and fold it in with her. She can get away with that being small enough to have the room and fit enough to pull her leg up high. You'll notice the smooth in and out guys put both feet in at the same time, then drop down. Its more about knowing how to do it, than anything else... but you also dont get "stuck" if you're smaller and fitter.
Wonderful improvements. Sold me. But just saying, the car is SO much more elegant and attractive without the side pipes. Under car exhaust please! Shelby did it...why not you?
I'm the same size as Jim Schenck but much more fit. Cool, now I know that I would fit. Looks like an Mk5 is on the list. I think that I saw a video where your making a carbon fiber body for this kit. Is that true?
The hardtop is indeed going to be sold in clear-coated carbon fiber. And further, in about a month we will have a carbon fiber body for the Daytona Coupe. If that process is released, the next product to get an optional carbon fiber body will be the Roadster. Availability assuming everything meets criteria will be July to September. Pricing has not been determined. Hope that helps!
@@factoryfive That somewhat helps. My first project will be your 818c. I'd love it if that body was carbon fiber. I'm waiting on the build till I finish building my shop.
Something is off about the nose and the backend. Did you guys redid the backend to fit the hardtop? The M4 body looks better than the M5 body. How unfortunate.
That would be a really easy modification. Most people build the car or have it built to include all of their personal touches. I love the way the Car looks, but I think that I would personally add to the interior.
Those are the standard Factory Five Vintage Gauges. They have a classic style with all modern electronic gauges, gps, speedometer (cool because you can do ET’s and 0-60 runs). The lights on the gauges work great unlike the British gauges that have 1/2 candle power 😂
@@dukegnarley the original Moto-lita wooden rim and aluminum steering wheels on original 289 and 427s were 14, 15 and some 16” diameters. On those vintage cars without power steering, the larger diameter steering wheel made quick attitude corrections easier because they had better leverage. We sell the 14” diameter because most customers use power-steering, and the smaller diameter allows for more space around the steering wheel. Even with manual steering our 14” steering wheel is pretty good on a Factory Five because the weight distribution on Factory Five cars is far better than that on the original cars.
Because the Mk5 is so much larger inside, we have found that if a customer is less than 5’10” or 5’11” they may want a seat track to both lift them higher in the seat and move them forward. Nicole definitely needs seat tracks!
The problem always is that for real or even comfortable driving, you would have to radius out the entire top of the door so you could drive with your hands at 9 and 3 o'clock.
@@JB91710 for the most part you are right, and you’re definitely right with respect to every single cobra that’s ever been built, except the new Mk5. It is truly cavernous inside and your arms will be mostly extended straight when your hands are at the 10 and 2 o’clock position. Perhaps tomorrow I can have one of the boys sit in the car with his hands in the driving position that you recommended, and I can grab a photo so you can see where their elbow falls with respect to the top of the door. A really big guy is still going to have to drive with his left arm resting on the top of the driver door as you mentioned. But in the Mk5 the reach to the pedals and the depth of the cockpit literally change everything.

I will get one eventually! Too beautiful of a car

I’m pretty sure you can do under body exhaust.

The hard top will be carbon fiber not the body. New molds make the body much smoother they are saying.

F9R UPDATE? is it canceled?
not "cancelled" just zero chance of releasing for the next few years. I just called and asked about it the other day.

How close is that steering wheel to the door? It looks very tight.
There is plenty of room with the steering wheel shown. The classic wooden steering wheel is larger, but there is still enough of her room.

Do it again with HOT sidepipes!

Ok, now do this video again with the hardtop on...
I'm not sure your daughter can see over the hood, Dave!
