@@riddersjc Meh, even though it obviously was blown out of proportion by right-wing grifters, it's still a low point of the show, little memorable moments, disappointing and at most times non-existent character arcs, confusing political messages like in Kerblam, wasted the first WLW doctor relationship in the show for a ship that barely lasted 3 episodes. Good for the kids though. But I don't think the hate it got was undeserved, it just was misdirected, people complained all about the wrong stuff like "duhhh the doctor is a woman now!" or wokeism or whatever. What it deserved was more constructive criticism instead of destructive.
Imagine if the Irish girl was cast as the first female Doctor instead of the one we got. Could really have added something to the character and the show. I thought she was funny, (stand up) convincing and likeable. Rather than disinterested and phoning it in.
One of the things that annoyed me with this episode is just how unlikable the doctor's character is. When she's talking to the Dan and Yaz in one of the resets she just comes across as blatantly rude and just annoying. Another thing is Dan's telling the Doctor about Yaz liking her, when we could have had a potentially great scene of Yaz getting the confidence and confessing her feelings to the Doctor, all we got was Dan going "yOu LikE hEr" and some pipette tears. (also according to google Yaz is meant to be like 19 which is a tad weird considering she's being played by a 34 year old) Can't wait for Russel to come back and bless us with some half decent writing!
Well to be fair there are daleks in the basement and everyone is running out of time for each loop while dying so if the doc can't find a solution quickly enough then they'll all be dead by the final rotation
5:31 Myself and a friend actually had our own theory for this. Rather than the daleks being more powerful with the new guns, they trade power and being able to aim on the fly, with rapid fire. Hence why it took the dalek longer than normal to break down the door/why it kept missing quite a few times
I think it was such a ridiculous idea. It looks cool but it’s completely impractical. The Daleks can already shoot relatively fast and had 90% accuracy. Now they have a weaker weapon and way lower accuracy.. for the trade of rapid fire, which they could already practically do
That makes sense. In previous episodes where they have had a door obstacle a specialised Dalek was able to weld through the metal. Their nuclear power source can't handle infinite amounts of power consumption so in order to have the machine gun feature other features have to be excluded.
I think they could of said they needed to kill the dr while they had the unique opportunity but there blasters had been damaged making the aim bad but the gun blast more quicker.
Glad someone else mentioned the absolute baffling timings at the end. Absolutely hate it when they do that trope when a minute isn't actually a minute.
Right? Also, when the Dalek says it arrived 1.93 rels ago... That's less than five seconds. But that was enough for the Doctor and crew to spot him, for Dan to decide to stall him, then get out of the elevator, get a box and casually stroll up to him! It took me right out of the story.
Also, I love how there was all that "but Doctor, if we reset one more time it'll go over when Nick is gonna die and he'll be gone for good", but then immediately forget about it after more resets. Top notch.
@@sebastianconway9177 Yeah they are doing the will they won't they game for the 5th time actually now. They did it with Rose, Martha, Amy and Clara. Now it's Yaz's turn to play the game of will they or won't they with their Doctor lol. It's gotten so old when I feel personally it only worked and made sense with Rose cause he was coming off of the time war. Every other time it did not work to me
Definitely, the lack of other characters actually forced him to write some personalities for these ones. Also, Aisling Bea and Adjani Salmon's performances massively elevated them.
Something that got pointed out to me that I'll never not notice about Chibnall era Who is the overuse of the Sonic Screwdriver. Take this episode for example: - Doctor uses it to assess their location both specially and temporally rather than just explore. - At the same time the Sonic gets an alert to temporal disturbance which could’ve been done as a visual effect or even the Doctor (being time sensitive) just feeling it. - Finds Nick dead and doesn’t even physically check him for a pulse, just Sonics. This also alerts her to it being a Dalek which again could’ve been done by physically checking the body, as has literally been done before in Remembrance. - The Doctor’s entire plan for confronting the Dalek being to use the Sonic to jam it’s weapon, which alone is a stupid plan because then what was she gonna do? And THIS is just the first 10 minutes before the intro theme started, there are many more examples in this episode alone but I’m not gonna go through every one, suffice to say the Doctor spends at least 50% of the episode with the Sonic actively in her hand and that’s just ridiculous.
Russell created the Deadlock Seal to stop the Sonic Screwdriver from solving the episode's problem, but still be able to open a door or faff with a computer if they needed to. Now it's just a Help Button, and has been since Moffatt honestly.
@@TheSmart-CasualGamer Moffatt still used deadlock seals and the doctor made far less use of the screwdriver unless it is to figure out what something is to assist the doctor in trying solve a problem, but it wasnt a instant-fix like the chibnall era
Same with the psychic paper. What was even the need for it in this episode? They didn't need to pretend to be someone else to get access to places or to blend in with the locals. And after that one gag, they instantly stopped pretending they had anything to do with any sort of council. There was no point to it.
What triggers me the most is that in this episode the protagonists somehow escape the daleks who are machine gunning them down a thin corridor and they don’t get shot at all and the metal shop cover was more durable against dalek fire than the actual dalek itself.
If the goal of the Daleks is to kill the doctor and they know where the TARDIS is and where the doctor spawns... Why all the running and killing random humans??? Also, seeing how easy it was for one Daleks to trap and kill the doctor, companions and 2 random humans, it's surprising they haven't done it before
They did make it pretty clear that the Daleks were only able to do that because of what was going on with the TARDIS. It wasn't their plan, they just took advantage of an unexpected occurrence that happened to work in their favor.
@@BlueSparxLPs Yeah but we see The Daleks teleport in differently in different loops depending on where they want to go. So why not just teleport in front of The Tardis every time to kill The Doctor? 😂
@@LewysC Honestly I think the best explanation for that is just that they were playing with their food lol. Certainly wouldn't be the first time they've done that.
Did "Thasmin" seem like it just came out of nowhere to anyone else? I probably haven't been paying enough attention, but I never saw Yaz loving The Doctor in the same way, say that Rose did
Feel like another case of the usual crowd shipping characters which Chibs caught on to and just went with it. Shame the two characters involved this time have a horrible personality and no personality.
Not quite, it was hinted at during “Arachnids in the UK”, then, from what I remember, completely forgotten about until “The Timeless Children”! And after “Revolution of the Daleks”, it’s not really brought up until “Survivors of the Flux”, nearly a year later! Since then it’s been built up, but not enough.
I thought there were a few other major plot problems. 1. How do they know that the time loops at midnight (they always died before then) it could be an hour reducing by a minute, rather than 8ish minutes. They have no way of knowing (or it's not explained) 2. Why do the loops reduce by exactly a minute? And why to exactly midnight on NYE? 3. Does no one else have a phone? The doctor could memorise the numbers when they meet, ready for future loops. 4. Why didn't the daleks put a force field around the whole building not just the front door? And how did Sarah know there wasn't a force field there? 5. Since the daleks attacked because they knew that the doctor was there, why only send a handful of Daleks? 6. How did the daleks get there? They attacked because the doctor arrived, arriving in seconds/minutes of the TARDIS. Can they now teleport across the whole galaxy in an instant? Okay a few more points than I was planning, but weirdly I quite enjoyed the episode (probably because I've come to expect so little though...)
Speaking of Briggs, the fact that he also voices the Cybermen just makes that scene in "Doomsday" all the funnier if you imagine it's Nicholas insulting himself repeatedly.
I know this is stating the obvious but the Daleks at least exterminated the Doctor more here than in the last 58/59 years combined (TV only, maybe Big Finish or novels exterminated them before Stolen Earth)... too bad they still had Stormtrooper Dalek aim somehow.
But they didn't really exterminate anyone, it was all reset, i.e., the consequence of each of the killings in this episode is the same as the ones prior, which is zero (besides Stolen Earth). In fact, there's less consequence because not only did the Doctor not die, but neither did any relevant side characters, as they typically do.
@@anawilliams1332 She used Fireworks to kill the 3 Daleks in the New Year's Special, and she basically massacred the Sontarans, Daleks and Cybermen at the end of Flux, which is hypocritical to a degree considering she scolded that general for murdering the Sontaran fleet in War of the Sontarans. Her morals are all over the place, and she's never questioned by anyone
Absolute fuckin' cobblers, wasn't it? From start to finish. Every single element that could have been mishandled or misused was treated like it was baggage being thrown onto a plane at an airport. What baffles me most, though, is how positive the reaction seems to have been from reviewers (other than on UA-cam where sense, it seems, prevails) and the public. Have they all been brain-damaged by Flux? Or maybe that trailer for "Legend of the Sea Devils" wiped their minds of the past hour's viewing.
To be honest, it's probably just the whole Chibnall's era being so crap that lifts this episode up somewhat, falling backwards into a slightly more decent storytelling bit after more than 3 years of crap is bound to seem impressive, plus, Aisling Bea's performance was a little bit of fresh air, which lifts it up a bit more.
In relation to LGBT relations towards the doctor they should be treated the same as when straight companions tried it. The doctor simply hides from relationships because humans die and she doesn’t want to feel that grief of losing someone she loves. The doctor doesn’t mind homosexuality, we know that already from David’s doctor with captain jack.
Can’t have it be a personality flaw or something, like “oh if my phone’s on silent i forget it exists”, it’s gotta be a weirdly broken phone in a way no phone has ever been broken
@Harry's Moving Media I have not watched Doctor Who since season 12... I even missed most of that! I am getting DEEPLY FRUSTRATED though with how weak the Daleks are constantly portrayed!!! The creator, Terry Nation, Detailed in his own Non-Canon (Conveniently for the BBC) Dalek Annuals that what Dan did to that Dalek in this episode - NOT POSSIBLE! The Daleks SHOUDL BE one of the most Difficult Enemies to beat in most respects as it is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE to sneak up on them... They are TANKS, Your best bet is a Fast Full Frontal Assault!!! Their biggest weakness is SPEED!!! They are SLOW AND LUMBERING! Other than that - You are Screwed! To demonstrate - Some additions Terry Nation Made: Dalek Bumps - Proximity Sensors - They can detect Heat, Vibration and Electrical impulses giving a Dalek an All around View even when its Stalk is not looking behind it - NB: It only detects "Signs" and cannot identify so still needs to physically see to identify a Potential Target... Dalek Bulbs - We all know they were put on them so that the Crew could see Which Dalek was Speaking... But Nation created a canon Explanation for the Bulbs - They are Heat Dissipaters! A Dalek Power Source produces a great deal of excess heat - The Bulbs allow an excess to be removed safely (Some is stored to charge weapons etc...) - Break The Bulbs on a Dalek, It will be MICROWAVED in its own Shell! Levitation - LONG BEFORE The Show showed Daleks Levitate - Terry Nation had it covered! I am GLAD I did not see this episode... Because the BBC are SCREWING UP THE DALEKS! What should always beat them is their Obsessive Behaviour... They are so single minded that they refuse to believe they can be beaten!!! Meaning they do NOT think of the possibility of defeat! They should not appear SO DAMN WEAK!!!

It would make an interesting episode in the hands of good writers. Finally a chance to show the Daleks actually having intelligence like we haven't seen since 'Dalek' or the cult of Skaro with the doctor and the Dalak adapting and trying to out think each others moves each reset. Having to come up with new ideas as the others trail along unable to keep up with the doctors rapid thinking and 3 steps ahead planning having to trust that it'll all make sense in the end even if she asks them to do something like sacrifice themselves in one loop but you know, not in this era.
I really enjoyed this episode…but then I realised that was only due to the fact that ‘The Flux’ was so so so so low that anything looked good in comparison.
Did it Suck? .. yes, yes it did.. sorry to say but the only reason i am now watching Jodie Whittakers Docter is the hope that she will regenerate and the pain can be over for us all

A note about the exit, the first time they were trapped in a unit and the doctor was asking about another way out of that unit.... not the way out of the entire building
I just feel like they want to introduce the Daleks for DANGER! But then they never have any idea of what to do with them. There are very few episodes in all of Doctor Who that have a truly satisfying ending as far as Daleks go. Some are passable. Far too many just wind up in blowing them up. Which quickly becomes boring. Also, the ducking scene. I know it's a favorite in media. I'm just brought back to my old favorite series that might seem a bit out of nowhere. Zoids Chaotic Century. The main character pulls a maneuver where he leaps out of the way just as two of the other giant robots are coming in for an attack, and these two hit one another and defeat one another. The point is made that this only works because these giant robots are piloted by computers and not competent pilots. No competent military trained pilot would fall for that. I love the Daleks, but they so often want to have them falling for the dumbest plays in the books. The point of the Daleks being the most dangerous is supposed to partially be their intelligence! I just don't see why a species that is CLONED to be the best soldiers would fall for something so plain.
Did I miss something, i understand that each time they respawned a minute later but there was no explicit idea of them not respawning after midnight, what is this cinderela or something ?
I'm not gonna lie, I've seen a lot of Aisling Bea (QI, Cats Countdown) but this was the first time I actually liked her. Obviously she does something right with her comedy to have a fan base, she's just never clicked with me, but as an actor portraying a Chibnall written script, the fact that she was probably the best part about this episode for me was the biggest surprise I've had in a while and at least proves that things can actually work if you give it enough time. I'm still ecstatic that we only have 2 episodes of Chibnall left to endure but hey ho.
We all suspected years ago that there would a lesbian tick-box storyline and I think we all knew it would happen, but the fact that it took three seasons just for it to be brought about and then a fourth season in which that's going to be the focus is ridiculous. I like the female Doctor. But can't they just let her BE a female doctor? It's as typical as when old American films made it clear that the black guy was going to be the criminal from the start.
it is infiuriating because we have Bill from season 10 that in my opinion showed a great model of being a lesbian companion. As far as I remember, the hint that Yasmin has any feelings for the doctor is just subtle. It only started because her mother thought they are together. Other than that, there has no moment (IMO) during the last three seasons that can make Yasmin 'loves' the doctor. There is no 'tender' or 'sweet' between the two of them like what Nine/Rose or Ten/Rose had, or even what Eleven/Clara had during their run. I hate it that Jodie's run as a doctor about to be over (just two more specials) and Chibnall decided to do this. It felt like ticking a box to please fans who has been shipping Thirteen/Yasmin. It just cheap

Yeah, tbh, this episode SUCKED what with the gobby and salty Sarah, the Stormtrooper accuracy and the judgement towards Nick, just because he decided to be smart and also a Gentleman by storing stuff Ex Girlfriends accidentally left behind. (Take it from a friend of mine, NEVER throw out anything an Ex leaves behind. He donated a load of CDs his last one left behind and when she turned up to collect them and he told her what happened, she went away and came back with her new BF who STRAIGHT UP threatened to "gut 'im" unless he gave back the CDs by the time he counted to three! My friend was ok,btw, he simply called the Cops and the BF suddenly recalled he had an "urgent Doctor's appointment to attend.." and left, followed by Madam who was spitting firey feathers and mocking him for "being afraid of a couple of tossers in fancy dress!") Luckily, John was there to make it NOT sucky and either Chibbers goes or they better hope John stays on, because if he doesn't, as far as I shall be concerned, Doctor Who ended with Peter Capaldi.

I casted Simon Farnaby as the Thirteenth Doctor
Definitely. I mean Capaldi was on the show before being the doctor so she could be a future doctor who knows?
You’re dreaming if you think Davies is going to fix anything.
@@noneya3635 elaborate?
well she has grown up since the first episode, but yeah she looks too old for the part
She was 19 in her first appearance. At this rate, especially with Flux, she's about 25
5:31
Myself and a friend actually had our own theory for this.
Now they have a weaker weapon and way lower accuracy.. for the trade of rapid fire, which they could already practically do
It makes sense, but as always, if it's not stated or referenced, it's a plothole
That makes sense. In previous episodes where they have had a door obstacle a specialised Dalek was able to weld through the metal. Their nuclear power source can't handle infinite amounts of power consumption so in order to have the machine gun feature other features have to be excluded.
So basically they traded one of the most genuinely unique traits of the concept and turned them into Cybermen in the form of trash cans, got it
I think they could of said they needed to kill the dr while they had the unique opportunity but there blasters had been damaged making the aim bad but the gun blast more quicker.
Top notch.
Its because he survived pass 11 55 so it didn't affect him anymore
I can't believe the Doctor is having another will they or won't they with his companion for the 4th time now lol. Can Chibs do anything original lol

Now it's Yaz's turn to play the game of will they or won't they with their Doctor lol. It's gotten so old when I feel personally it only worked and made sense with Rose cause he was coming off of the time war. Every other time it did not work to me
Both Harbo and Harry dropping a review of this episode tonight. The synchronicity is marvelous. 🤗
The character work was the best of chibnalls run, with what's his face and what's her name having some actual characterisation.
That's your opinion
@@the-scamp no hes right. They have the best characterization of any of chibs characters. It's not saying much since everyone else is a plank of wood.
Take this episode for example:
- Doctor uses it to assess their location both specially and temporally rather than just explore.
@@etrazombanya-2821 Fair enough. I haven't rewatched Series 5 for a while, so my opinions aren't at their best.
Same with the psychic paper. What was even the need for it in this episode? They didn't need to pretend to be someone else to get access to places or to blend in with the locals. And after that one gag, they instantly stopped pretending they had anything to do with any sort of council. There was no point to it.
Too bad they can't sonic some originality into the show.
Thank you for pronouncing Aisling Bea's name correctly. This is the first review I've watched that hasn't badly mauled it.
how does nick have enough ex-girlfriends to fill a storage room with their stuff, but can't ask out this one girl he fancies?
Maybe because he actually felt and knew that she was different from all the others. That his feelings were stronger.
Also, seeing how easy it was for one Daleks to trap and kill the doctor, companions and 2 random humans, it's surprising they haven't done it before
Yeah that's true, why didn't they just teleport to The Tardis every time 🤔
They did make it pretty clear that the Daleks were only able to do that because of what was going on with the TARDIS.
I probably haven't been paying enough attention,
but I never saw Yaz loving The Doctor in the same way, say that Rose did
yes, yes it did come out of nowhere
It was only there because Chinballs went on Twitter one day and decided to satisfy shippers
Feel like another case of the usual crowd shipping characters which Chibs caught on to and just went with it. Shame the two characters involved this time have a horrible personality and no personality.
Yeah, it feel like it came out no where and was super unnessicary
Not quite, it was hinted at during “Arachnids in the UK”, then, from what I remember, completely forgotten about until “The Timeless Children”! And after “Revolution of the Daleks”, it’s not really brought up until “Survivors of the Flux”, nearly a year later! Since then it’s been built up, but not enough.
"Don't forget your stick lieutenant"
" Oh rather Sir, wouldn't want to be charging a German machine gun without that"
I thought there were a few other major plot problems.
1. How do they know that the time loops at midnight (they always died before then) it could be an hour reducing by a minute, rather than 8ish minutes. They have no way of knowing (or it's not explained)
I no it was wrong but
I cheered out loud every time the doctor got exterminated
I literally sang the theme tune in woops
It was actually cathartic
Young Chinballs: "The writing wasn't very good. It was all over the place. It needs to be written better".
Older Chinballs:
The story concept was decent, but the lack of continuity in the daleks ability ruined the episode
That's your opinion!
I know this is stating the obvious but the Daleks at least exterminated the Doctor more here than in the last 58/59 years combined (TV only, maybe Big Finish or novels exterminated them before Stolen Earth)... too bad they still had Stormtrooper Dalek aim somehow.
The Eighth Doctor gets gunned down loads by the Daleks in Palindrome. Not sure if he dies more than Thirteen in this episode though.
Can we talk about how the 13th Doctor is genuinely a psychopath... She just can't help blowing people up and destroying things can she😂
Who did she blow up

@@RieveB777 if only everybody picked up on how terribly written the doctor is in this era.
that 'making friends' speech was honestly horrific. chibnall just gave up on cohesion and listed random fucking things
Tbf, at least it's consistent with this doctor being wayyy more reliant on being with her companions
To demonstrate - Some additions Terry Nation Made:
Dalek Bumps - Proximity Sensors - They can detect Heat, Vibration and Electrical impulses giving a Dalek an All around View even when its Stalk is not looking behind it - NB: It only detects "Signs" and cannot identify so still needs to physically see to identify a Potential Target...
You probably should actually watch what you’re talking about because Dan didn’t sneak up on the Dalek. And they haven’t been weak in chibnalls era so far to be fair if you’d watched his Dalek episodes

The only good thing about it was that it inspired me to read a good book instead of watching it.
Thanks for the succinct synopsis of what I did not miss.
In this medium, it’s at least somewhat entertaining
I don't think I've ever seen a Dalek miss so many shots. And that stuff between Yaz and The Doctor that Chibby keeps trying to force in, he's definitely seen the fanfictions.
It doesn’t make sense for it to be flux debris as it started to go wrong before the flux even turned up
Aisling Bea definitely stole the show. I low-key kind of wish she'd come on to replace some of the less-interesting companions we're stuck with
I don't really like Jaz as a character, but even then, I think she deserves better, the doctor treats her terribly

It's not a game Chibnall... this is a scale model of TV destruction! Right there, every destruction infront of you. Because it's always the same... when you write that first script, you have no idea who's going to Hate! Which fans are going to scream and leave!
Nice of them to remake ‘Endless Eight’ for an English speaking audience. Even down to a phone being repeatedly annoying.
“Sera kun, denwa”
So why were the Daleks even at the storage facility in the first place? Did I miss something there?
Because Chris Chibnall need I say more
It would make an interesting episode in the hands of good writers.
Flux was like watching the dreams of a child with severe ADHD.
What this episode´s reaction boils down too: "its not very good but lesbians so 11/10"

Chris Chibnall should stop humiliating himself already.
A note about the exit, the first time they were trapped in a unit and the doctor was asking about another way out of that unit.... not the way out of the entire building
That moment when he rates this episode as high as he rated "The Doctor Falls"
I really liked how Chibby found a way to have the black guy die first _twice._
Just two more specials to go. It's almost over. BTW BBC bring back Christmas specials
4:34 - I still hate that TARDIS interior design.
I thought Daleks had the ability to rotate their waist section.

i just been skipping scenes in jodi era; which is kinda sad how I used to be a huge doctor who fan
Despite having maybe 2 scenes alone together, ever, Yaz is somehow in love with the doctor, with zero indication except from being told it?
it is infiuriating because we have Bill from season 10 that in my opinion showed a great model of being a lesbian companion.

Well it certainly didn’t swallow
My friend was ok,btw, he simply called the Cops and the BF suddenly recalled he had an "urgent Doctor's appointment to attend.." and left, followed by Madam who was spitting firey feathers and mocking him for "being afraid of a couple of tossers in fancy dress!")
Luckily, John was there to make it NOT sucky and either Chibbers goes or they better hope John stays on, because if he doesn't, as far as I shall be concerned, Doctor Who ended with Peter Capaldi.
