I truly think he’s a genius. Euphoria is just a basic mid show without the cinematography style. Marcell truly elevated the show to a whole other level
@@leronstar394 they do talk about serious issues but most episodes have barely anything going on expect for nude scenes. Especially in season 2 the first few episodes nothing was really going on except for a few minutes where they actually talk about something important. I absolutely think that the cinematography made the show 100x more pleasant to watch
I would recommend everyone to watch Balaton Method, a music documentary he shot in 2015. Every song is recorded on the spot around Lake Balaton in Hungary in various locations(including but not limited to: hot air balloons, medieval ruins, multiple beaches and so on) and the cinematography blew my mind as a teenager when it came out.
Béla Tarr (Werckmeister Harmonies has one of the most beautiful opening scenes), István Szabó (truly captures a young adults emotional state and fast changing life), for starters and on the cinematographers side Vilmos Zsigmond is one of the internationally famous ones and my personal favourite is Lajos Koltai (go watch Maléna or Time Stands Still for beautiful cinematography). Watch The Fifth Seal too. But I could write pages about our cinema in the 20th century. (nowadays unfourtunately not so good but workin on it)
Night time street scenes in urban settings, or Friday night high school football games with stadium lights. Whether it's the multiple light angles from street lights mixed with the saturated colors of neon signs, or the specular highlights in a girls eyes mixed with the strong contrast and backlit highlights, they both have similar lighting schemes that make for highly romanticized and high emotion evoking visuals. Hard to go wrong with that kind of lighting.
Brilliant and informative video. Please make "Cinematography style of Wally Pfister" video. Been asking from your first Cinematography style videos. Please consider it.
this is awesome! I still need to see Euphoria but it looks amazing, isnt Rev working on a Luca Guadagnino project now? And I never guessed Greg did the merch art lmao, god he's talented. Speaking of talent how come you never talk about any of the stuff you've shot dude? I know you mentioned a few things but why not more?
It’s funny, for all the big budget directors fetishizing theatrical exclusivity as a mark of “true cinema” then degrade some of the best filmmaking happening today as “movies and shows to watch on your phone”. Really?? So Roma, The Irishman, Mindhunter, Mr Robot, Euphoria, Patriot are all the sudden downgraded in aesthetic and cinematic achievement just because of their distribution model?? Most cult classics and forgotten gems that withstand the stand of time always gained traction in secondary/home release. The idea that theatrical exclusivity is the be-all, end-all feature of cinematic “quality” goes against the entire history of appreciating and celebrating moving pictures as an art form. Whether it’s on a streaming platform or has episodes doesn’t magically change or remove the artists creative ambition or process.
He's extremely good at that heightened music video look of colliding colours and dreamy haze - I just don't like it for dramatic material. It distracts from the drama, feels like the camera department is off doing it's own thing. Maybe that's needed for Levinson's somewhat overwritten and portentous stuff, to give it scale and feigned importance.
I truly think he’s a genius. Euphoria is just a basic mid show without the cinematography style. Marcell truly elevated the show to a whole other level
How is it mid just asking personally I don't think it is because of the topics they discussed and bring to light so I completely disagree with you

I’ve had the pleasure of working with him a few times, he’s so talented and an incredibly kind human being.
agree
Very cool
You were his assistant?
@@rutvikjundare8564 no I’m Tom Poole’s assistant and had the opportunity to assist on season 1 and then do additional color on season 2
This is so cool
Euphoria is one of the best looking tv series that I've ever seen. Probably would have never watched it if it wasn't for this In Depth Cine.
i wrote it off until i saw stills from the show on instagram

This has been my favorite cinematographer since euphoria his work has inspired me so much. I can’t believe he’s so popular
You can't believe he's so popular?
Was that a mistake lol?
Without him or his style of work, i dont think i would have enjoyed euphoria this much. He's a legend
As a hungarian I'm happy to see some familiar faces! Great vid as always!
I'm glad he finally got Emmy recognition this year,I hope he wins cause he deserves
Thank you for putting so much time and research into this! It's super helpful and I love Marcell's style!

We're all brothers man, patriotism is for idiots! :)
As always, excellent quality video. Honestly the best cinematography channel on UA-cam.
I've been waiting for this one, great job as always!!!
Marcell is def in line with my style. I love his work. I feel like him and Sofia Coppola mixed is what i want to shoot
In-depth cine, u brighten up our Sundays which always happens in the evenings, where I live
Awesome video as always!! I'm eager to see an episode about Jeff Cronenweth's style, he's the cinematographer for four of David Fincher's movies.
Yes do Jeff Cronenweth please :)
Can you make a video on the trends in cinematography by the decade? Something that shows the direction cinematography is going in?
This is such a cool idea. A24 definitely leading the charge with this.
Just when I thought I knew a thing or two about lighting, this guy shows up.
Great vid!
I'd love to see one of these breakdowns for Larry Fong next. He has been DP on 300, Watchmen and Super 8.
Omg!!can't believe this coincidence... Now at this time only I'd watched euphoria eps 5,and when i entered yt, i got notification of this vdeo😍
Wonderfully prepared, thank you for sharing this knowledge with us. 👏🏻
beautiful colors
Ur channel is gold for learning cinematography
Love the videos my dude! Consider putting projects that you yourself have DPed on Patreon, I know we would all love to see them!
You are easily my all-time favorite channel on the entirety of youtube.
I love your channel so much. I always wonder where you get all this information. Its so detailed!
yes, where do you found out about the cyan 30 / 60 gels? on a podcast he did?

Euphoria's Cinematography in season 2 is mind blowing, thank you for this super interesting break down!!
On Euphoria the Tungsten were often gelled with Light Amber also, apparently.
YES
That cyan mix with yellow really reminds me of WKW's work with Christopher Doyle
In Depth Cine is the best!
Absolutely beautiful i enjoyed this video, very informative thank you sir,
Neee more from this series ❤️
I know him personally, great guy and he is super talented in his craft!
Thanks!!
My friend, where did you Rev's audio responses? Podcast, one on one interview? I'd love to hear this full dialogue. Thank you.
This is beautiful
superb!
You should do an episode on Drew Daniels he did a few episodes of euphoria and the excellent waves
Cool. I haven't been able to watch Waves yet but will try check it out.
absolutley second this!! one of the most talented DP's working right now, can't wait to see what he does on 16mm with Sean Bakers next film Red Rocket
There were so many times when Euphoria’s dialogue scenes felt like PTA movies.

He's actually working on Euphoria season 2 at the moment
Euphoria "EP 1" looks more like a music video than a drama tv pilot. Still looks great though!
Referencing Edward Hoppers Painting
Can you talk about Luca Bigazzi, i think you will have a lot to talk about
One cinematographer/director I'd like to understand is Anthony Byrne
