Great to see your channel blow up. From doing UA-cam in your garage, to owning your own shop, and now get to interview Toyota engineers. You deserve it. 👏
Yep, totally deserves it!
He and Toyota Maintenance Channel are some of the best Toyota UA-cam Channels hands down.
How do you make an engineer nervous? See @TheCarCareNut walk in. 😂
Refreshing to have real questions get answered!
Number one mechanic complaint, since cars were invented, is the engineers don't talk the guys that have fix them. 😂
Toyota engineer and AMD get into a knock down, drag out brawl. 😂
@@cenccenc946That was a big mistake, because it went against what Toyota's development culture was originally about
You are honestly THE best repair/review channel I came across. I hope you will keep going for years to come
AMD, The Toyota engineer should be coming to your shop to ask you questions. 😉😉
Really, they should just to stay in tune with how the vehicle performs in the real world. Hopefully, they watch some youtube videos.
I love this channel I hope to meet you some day such a nice man!
Doesnt matter. They wont listen. To make things strong and robust ,it cost money.
See that short of an old sledgehammer vs an old one under a press?
Well thats what we deal with on a mass scale. Even finely engineered, parts are not the same quality they were yesteryear.
Yeah, 100%😆😆
Don’t feel bad about breaking the predator sideboard. They’re terrible.
Exactly why mine came off my 4runner day one. Great for mall crawling, horrible for everything else.
Yeah, they don't look good and obviously aren't going to make it off road.
@@Craig2142 just a way for them to charge you an extra $1k
It's another issue feedback for Toyota. He did them a favour.
@@jmpattillo yep, toyota is very good at the unwanted add ons.
AMD so happy that we have you, not some clowns ( auto reviewers) that never changed their oil
He is still biased as he is sponsored by Toyota
Well AMD..I did call it, back when you still shooting in your home garage, I said back then this guy going to have 1 million subscribers one day. There you go. The Lord bless you always. And Toyota is lucky to have you to test drive their trucks.
You did. I remember you calling it.
I don't like to read comments about the lord or god or any of that nonsense.

Prices are out of my league. Great review though
just wait til they are used. used trd 4runners are about 10k less. just wait for that and for the end of the year. buying a car requires patience too.
@@jameskocks4734 buying a car also often requires MSRPs not in the stratosphere, unfortunately.
Those prices are ridiculous man. Its like germany before WW2 prices are sky high because of the people behind usury and interest
Waiting for The Financial Miracle
@@jameskocks4734 i remember before i bought my highlander, it was 10k cheaper IF i got one with 150k miles already on it and over 5 years old. rather eat the money and buy something i know wasnt rode hard and put up dry.
Such a cool opportunity and noone is more deserving than TCCN, Mr. Toyota himself!
What an opportunity for Toyota engineers to talk with the Car Nut! Great interview.
I’m so thrilled for your success!!!! Over a million views. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!! Congrats
This is the best review/information video I’ve seen on the new Tacoma. Well done.
Pretty hilarious when asking about the airdam lol
He’s doing everything he can not to admit it needs to go while also saying it’s ridiculous and needs to go
I'll get some haters 😂, but this is only one knowledgeable UA-camr/ technician/SME that can ask this sort of high pitch questions to this Toyota engineer, rest of YT car review channels are just to do nice editing videos
Stop fishing for compliments bro. Just post your opinion and move on, no one is hating in the comments stop pandering
Love the channel! Thank you for the in depth education on the best automobiles in the world. Here's one for the algorithm! :)
Im a longtime tacoma owner and im not liking the direction they went with these. Too many electronic failure points, and priced out most of their loyal customers. The tacoma used to be the stereotypical truck that the highschooler would run around with in the woods and daily drive for years and years problem free. Now its the rich ceo's truck. My 2nd gen is mint. I dont care about its mpg's. It has the 4.0 v6 and 5 speed a750f, perhaps the most reliable drivetrain on the face of the earth. I get to watch family and friends take their vehicles to the shop, while my truck just waits for more miles and use. If i ever get another tacoma, it will be gen 3.
Heavy duty cooling, once the coolant starts to leak, turbo is toast. I agree with ya, NA engine has way less failure points
I've had 4 Tacoma's since 2005...I am on my last I think. The new gen just doesn't do it for me at all.
yes old v6 3.4 belt engine the best
Will the new Tacoma a be as reliable as Toyota trucks of yesteryear? Yes and no is probably the best answer. These new Turbocharged/hybrid trucks are undoubtedly more complicated than a simple 22R, 3.4 5VZ, or old inline 6 etc. These new trucks will also likely cost more to repair given the expensive parts and more difficult to work on.
But…. If anyone can pull this off it’s Toyota and I have no doubt that these trucks will be more reliable than the competition. No need to be afraid of turbo or hybrid. Ford has been doing Ecoboost turbo engines for well over a decade without much issue in F-150. In fact the ecoboost engines are the most common version of the F-150 which is still the most popular p/u truck. The sky isn’t falling on Ford owners and I am sure Toyota will do even better than Ford.
As far as hybrid goes no worries there either, plenty of Priuses and other Toyota hybrid models that have been used by Taxi/uber drivers who rack up hundreds of thousands of miles on them with daily abuse. We can only move forward, we are never going back to 98cent a gallon gas. The reality is that $10 a gallon gas could be here within a decade. These new trucks will pay for themselves in fuel savings over time. The added perk is that we are getting increased fuel economy with power numbers that would have required a large displacement V6 or even V8 less than 20 years ago.
I think these new power trains should easily last 10-20 years and be able to handle 200-300k+ miles depending on use and maintenance. Is this as good as a 22r or 5VZ that can last 20-30 years and 500k+miles? No but the fuel savings over the course of that time will likely add up to being able to buy a brand new truck. The added bonus is that you also get an engine that deliver 2-3 times as much power as the old dinosaur engines plus you get all that new tech to enjoy in the meantime.
Preach!!
Happy for you AMD. I’ve been following you for a while and Toyota should put you on the payroll. There is nobody who deserves this more than you. I’m a fanboy of these vehicles and you just reinforce my love for their simple design and reliability. Thanks for keeping us along for the ride.
That Sequoia is CLEAN! Looking forward to seeing that in a future video!
What makes you think he was not paid for this promo?
Great interview! Very refreshing seeing real questions get asked. Not just the typical softball questions other channels usually ask.
It was great getting to see you again! Very fun time at this event despite the weather.
Thank you for being direct with your questions!!! Not backing down and getting right to it!!!!!
I love your questions!!! A real review by a master mechanic!
This video was published only 21 hours ago and this video has almost 35k worth of views already. By far one of my favorite channels and i dont even own a Toyota vehicle!!
Great video! We shall see how this new version holds up. In the meantime, my 2021 is OK for the time being.
Great video AMD. I liked all the off roading and interview. thanks!!
That 1st gen sequoia is clean
Awesome content as usual, thank you.
AMD, awesome interview with Randy. Since a lot of the new 6th gen 4Runner is heavily based on the Taco but made in Japan we should have a great experience with it. Thank you!
Great content keep up the great work 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the video 👍
Awesome video AMD! Finally Toyota experts talking to Toyota experts
Nice video as always!
great review. thanks
Great interview, I learnt more about the this truck than any other video. Well done, hope you get invited more often.
With well over 1 million subscribers, I am certain AMD is politely declining invitations to media events all the time.
Just noticed that you have over 1 million subs, congrats!
Thanks for the video! I’d love to see a similar one on the new 4Runner in the near future!
Nice review!
AMD, I wish I could afford the New Tacoma. Love your content from the Great White North
Get a job. Get a good job.
Great channel, thanks
My guy AMD, I’m so proud of you.
After quite a bit of research including your videos, we took delivery of a new 2024 Lexus ES 350. I wanted my wife to have a safe comfortable car that we can take on trips. She seems to really like it, we plan on keeping it until the kids take away our keys.
Watching from Philippines, Toyota always number 1 QDR, congratulations sir 1 million subscriber and counting
Thanks, great job.
Great interview. I think this truck will be successful.
That black Sequoia looks amazing ❤
That was well done.
I bought 2017 tacoma trd off road last june it had 183000 k on it. I started looking in to it and found out it had been neglected! I spent the money and it' worth it getting running even better
great video
1 million subscribers 🥳🥳🥳
I just hope Toyota take from your reviews to better their game. Proud of you
Love the video. That's awsome you got to talk with an engineer. Truck seems like it's a good one. The seat option in the higher trim was interesting. Only downfall of the truck is that damper. To me if it was put on but easy to take off then it's not needed. I'm sure there are better ways to "reduce" the drag than put a piece of plastic on the front.
Thank you for your unbiased opinion of this truck. I’m excited about getting a 2024 TRD Sport 4X4 with the Premium Package. I like a sunroof and a rear sliding window, large multifunction infotainment system, 360 degree camera system and theJBL sound system. I don’t drive off-road in extreme conditions so the Sport model with the better handling will be ideal for me. I will be removing the air dam and putting on taller tires to add clearance for the Wyoming snow storms. I would like the Limited model for the adaptive suspension and all wheel drive function but its price is more than I want to pay.
I plan on buying one. They fixed all the issues I had with the third gen; rear drum brakes, seat and ceiling too low, transmission hunting.
Good job
May the Lord bless and keep YOU my friend.
Yes leaf springs will be more robust for more serious off roading but for what most people use them for which is driving dirt roads at 45mph+ ,the coil will be so much smoother and compliant
A 5 link coil setup is way more robust for off-roading, towing, racing, daily driving, etc. There is nothing a leaf spring does that a proper coil setup can’t do better.
@@MrCherrygrovedude agreed, leaf springs are just bad these days. only reason theyre used in anything is because theyre cheap
Great job very well executed lots of excellent content and informative Gives me plenty to think about I’m sure the 4 cylinder will work just fine. They do their homework. My only major complain is the prices they’re now charging for their trucks and cars went to Toyota dealers in Connecticut and both of them were charging market adjustment and above MSRP. The market adjustment was 3,500
And 4,000 add the increased destination fee now $1500 dealer fees taxes a hard plastic SR5 was 47,000 out the door talk about stickers shock price shock that’s $1000 a month truck car payment insane !!
Surprised no one is mentioning that one UA-cam video where a few guys broke the front axle when trying to get up over ice/snow and rock...
TFL.
Never has one part on one truck been more overhyped 🙄
Wasn’t an axle it was the ADD.
@@debratakahara2494 Yep and testament to design strategy that's frugal. Yes, the fact it failed warrants attention, but more importantly, a cheaper easier to replace part failed and kept he axle in tact and allowed the truck to drive safely albeit limited.
I suspect they’ll need to issue a recall for that ADD. Perhaps the FEA wasn’t done to the torque specs of the new engine?
Hey AMD, I hope you can answer my question. I did a drain and fill transmission fluid on my 2016 Highlander. Now on the diagnose mode where you switch from Drive and Neutral. When it came to D solid, I left the gear stick on N and proceeded to drain the excess transmission fluid. I did this because on your first video of servicing enclosed transmission, you didn't mention specifically to switch the gear on Park. However, on your second video, you mentioned to switch on Park before draining excess fluid. Is this a big deal?
You should try the 3rd generation with a tune, lots of smooth torque at 2000 rpm.
We need TCCN License Plate frames please. Just simple white or black with your logo on it - would definitely buy one!
Your integrity and honesty is what people like about you. Big mistake having Toyota on the segment
Go Toyota!
Great objective video! I of course will echo the frustration with them removing the V6 version. I think would have preferred them to offer the V6 along side the 4-Cylinder. However I’m not an engineer so I don’t know the challenges this may have had.
I can keep an open mind and see how these last over time!
I feel a bit reassured with them saying they've designed them to more of a commercial spec. Time will tell, but I'll trust Toyota over all these "buT MuH v6" guys. Turbos are not evil. If maintained properly they can last VERY long if designed well.
A straight 6, is what I'd like to d er
Hi AMD. I've been an avid recent fan and have been watching all of your suv reviews and love your perspective as a master mechanic. I'm looking for a large suv daily cruiser and have set my eyes on the 21' lx570 and 23'+ lx600 which I know you've driven and reviewed. Between the 2, would you say the lx600 is that much smoother, quieter, and nicer interior? I don't mind the price or mpg. Just space, drive comfort, and reliability. I have test driven the lx600 luxury but have yet to try and feel the lx570. Thanks!
Bravo ❤
Cool to see you at chicago auto pro's the other day! Hope I can get 500k out of my Tacoma someday :)
Car care off-roading quality youtube.
What’s next a 3 cylinder twin turbo? It’s a TRUCK!!!!!
The epa air damn. Love it!
A Tacoma hybrid would be interesting.
I am sure Toyota was there to edit the video to make sure you said what they wanted because TFL trucks blew the 4 wheel drive out of their new Tacoma. The Canyon didnt break and made it up perfectly.
The transferbox motor question.. was that a pass?
@DildeauBaggins you realize there's more than one team of engineers what work on the development of the vehicle, not everyone knows everything about specific parts of the vehicle.
If you listen carefully how this chief engineer answered the rust protection employed by Toyota you can deduct the some of the frame got some protection and some maybe not. Good for rust bell states or Canada. I believe the OEM is not doing enough to address the premature rust on vehicles. You but it rust becomes your problem. Not the OEM.
they only have to guarantee the frame for their warranty period.....
I was hoping you’d ask him about the Toyota Stout pickup!!!!
I do love how the new taco drives and handled. Im torn on this or the tundra. Tundra bearings make me nervous. May go taco. Hope they 300k. Im buying my last truck lol
I've owned a 2004 Gen 1 and currently own a 2014 Gen 2. I have no interest in the newer versions. Perhaps I will look at the smaller Stout if they offer it in the States.
As someone with horrible frame rot on my 03 4runner, hearing the consideration for the frame integrity and longevity makes me very happy.
Learn to pressure wash your frame and undercarriage every summer.
@@subtegral it's unavoidable. Wash after every beach run, there was a recall that was never extended to the 4R. They used faulty steel, well known issue.
@@KO_infamous only pressure wash the frame in the summer - when it's hot. And then let it dry outdoors. You failed to maintain your frame. You also had the option early on to coat it with undercoating and you chose not to.
toyota had to buy a LOT of bad frames under warranty, im sure they dont want to pay that again
Tacoma sales down 60% with numerous recalls. nuff said!!!!!!!!
Wow...1M subs...congrats AMD. Hebrews 6:20
AMD thank yo for sharing this with us. Please make more videos of Tacomas that you work on in your shop.
This is awesome! AMD, you get invited to Toyota events and Scotty killme is still stuck at home sayin how great Chevys, bmw’s and fords are now lol
I’m not a fan of the 6th gen because it’s one, just a Tacoma with an suv body on it, and two the bulletproof 1GR-FE is gone. So glad I got my 21’ TRD ORP naturally aspirated 1GR-FE that I’ll own forever, provided some 🤡 doesn’t drive his tesla into my 5th gen and State Farm totals it of course. 😉 appreciate all the content and info brother!
God bless~
Good but does removing it affect the warranty?
And what to know about electric steering??
I see a GS350 peeking in the corner. Please do a video on this underrated car, even though it is discontinued.
On the hybrid models it looks like the hybrid battery is between the cab body and frame(under the rear bench seat). If you want to run one of these to 300k+ miles, that battery will need to be replaced sometime well before 300k. Do you have to pull the body off of the frame to do it? And what would it cost?
the 600000 mile Lexus.....lol very nice.🤣
Have you seen the build series? Its worth watching.
They should do whatever they did to the frames on the volvo 240,740. My 740 had no rust at 300k miles and 20 years old despite living in the rust belt.
I would love to watch a whole video of the 600k Lexus LS journey through this toyota event 😂🙏🏼 update us AMD
A lot of people are hating the turbocharged engine, but with the help of the hybrid system and a 8 speed transmission, the engine is gonna run at pretty low rpm. With time Toyota is gonna perfect the engine also🤷♂️
first, i love your channel. second, factory tacomas are not "off road". i love the tacoma. driving my 3rd. would still be driving the 1st except for the frame issues. your test track was little more than a daily commute in the sticks. NOW if you want to get real and a cheap budget find an old ihc scout or comperable american iron . bring a bottle jack. a comealong, a fishing pole and beers. that's how you have fun without breaking the bank.
Spot on these are mall crawlers now. How many will ever see any dirt. None in my neighborhood

FIRST QUESTION TO THE ENGINEER WHATS GOING ON WITH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL ON THE TACO, FROM THE TFL UA-cam CHANNEL? THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SNAPPED
Toyota is now a luxury brand I can’t afford
Please review a x5 40i.
Hi I enjoy your videos very much but I have an issue with my '09 Lexus RX 350. Suddenly there was a warning on the display saying check air conditioner and the air conditioner icon on the display flashes and I don't get any cold air. I am a mechanic and I check the relay and it's fine the compressors and turning on and I'm getting code b1422 which is compressor lock. There's very little information on UA-cam about it some feel it's the AC amplifier that's gone but the dealer in Canada wants $2,100 for it so that's out of the question. Anyhow would be great thanks in advance.
How about the payload in the trail hunter? Just a few people and watch out.
I wonder if the seats can help prevent whiplash in the event of an accident
One video showed the price around 60k with dealer markup.
Has that Tacoma ADD breaking on the TFL snow off-roading test been fully explained? It lost front wheel drive going up a slick hill.
@The Car Care Nut - with all of your gathered experience, how much faith do you have in these motors hitting the legendary 300k+ mark? I've read enough on both techs to have some serious doubts. I would like to know what a person with a day to day experience in repairing hybrid and turbo engines thinks about the new engines and their longevity.
Mechanic vs engineer 🍿😯
