- Wrapped up the interior of the boat for the most part and finally got the right pistons to rebuild the engine. Radio sounds great and the engine is finally running again. Next steps are taking it out for the first test ride!
Those needle bearings can be a chore. Looks like you figured it out... a thick grease can help hold them in-place. Don't forget to change the waterpump impeller in the lower-unit if you don't know how old the current one is. I like the new radio... cool form-factor (round vs square). Cheers!
Huge fan of that radio. Here’s the link if your interested in it: Rockville RGHR2 Marine Gauge Hole Receiver W Bluetooth USB, Radio + Wired Remote a.co/d/goXHKjr
Killer project, Brother. Found you last night, and binge watched some of your stuff. Had to stop and go to bed. But back at it tonight, following along on this one. Man... you've got mad skillz!!! I'm super impressed. Been around boats and motors my entire life. My Grandpa worked for Johnson Motors for 40 years, and I grew up with all this stuff. And you have some real talent! OK - on to the next vid!
Thank you! Glad your enjoying it so far.
Use some axle grease for the needle bearings. They stay put much better that way, and helps to lube them upon start up until the crankcase is nice and coated full of 2-stroke oil from the fuel
Thanks for the tip!
When you do a compression test, make sure the throttle butterflys are wide open in the carbs, and that the chokes aren't closed.
The restricted airflow from a closed throttle will skew the reading on the compression gauge and it'll read lower than actual.
Awesome thank you, didn’t know that.
Where did you get the pistons
Ended up getting them off eBay from JKWatercraft Parts. Here’s the link www.ebay.com/itm/203910599482=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=sl7sBe40RGK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=wVNost5sQ0u&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
