This comment is far to true, for any rpg whether it's an mmo like wow or a singleplayer rpg like witcher 3 shops will rip you off for gear even when they are one of a kind xD.

As a casual player, this was the most precious item on my warrior. Back when I got the quest, my guild couldn't kill Onyxia. So I got to do the raid as a guest player with one of the better guilds on the realm... oh the memories...
I haven't played the game for many years but seeing these time warp episodes really brings me back to some very fond memories. Thank you for putting these together, it's always a joy to reminisce about hours long spent in the company of friends.

I'm in the same boat, Manowah. I don't play anymore, mostly because my friends don't enjoy the game as I do and they mostly went their separate ways. I love seeing vids with the research and production value that content creators like MadSeason make, though. It's still fun to see how the game is evolving. Even though I'm a bit sad I might not play the void expansion when it finally comes out :(

The social aspect is gone, especially since LFR and LFG makes it so everyone is "mage" or "tank" or "healer" or "paladin" etc. Your reputation doesn't matter whatsoever because you will never see any of those people again. Being in a guild is obviously different, but like I said, all my old friends stopped playing...

I remember getting this on my original warrior main back in Vanilla and being over the moon. As much as I love Legion, I wish they'd bring these quests back somehow, or at least a way to phase back into the old world and relive all the old stuff.

In my opinion, they have done really well with the legendary and class systems in Legion, minus some hiccups. What I would like to see in the new xpac, just me two cents, is a single legendary that is class specific to all the classes. You work through the main leveling areas and get your legendary just prior to the first raid opening. After each raid tier, you do a new set of quests, etc, to upgrade the class specific legend. I believe this would accomplish class diversity, but remove the randomness of the legendary system now.

I got mine via freak luck shortly before it was taken out, was a fresh faced new player at the time, and it made for an amazing memory! It's still on my Paladin to this day.
This blade started me into raiding.... We were running DM with 3 warlocks for a laugh with no tank and this dropped.. I won the roll.. and was shortly messaged by every maintank on the server! Traded it for a ginv and an onyxia ring. Stayed with the guild all through vanilla as one of the top raiding guilds. Good times, all starting with that drop!

I still have mine :) I got mine on US-Skullcrusher back in the day. What a fun quest.
We were set for the Lair and my guild wanted me badly to get the sword. Moving in clearing the last trash - I DC.. I remember shedding a tear.. Thinking Iwould never get my Quel.. When I logged in later when my internet was back my warrior stood in Org naked.. I was sure I was hacked... I cried some more confused logging in to find out: My guildmaster (who I was and am v close with) had logged in on my account and missed out on any dropchances he might have needed, in order to tank and sink the sword in for me. This is truly a great guild and a quest so big it felt impossible without a whole team of good people. Marauding Camelids - Aszune - forever
Sidenote: I never met anyone from my guild IRL and I still trust them more than some of my RL friends.. Strange..

Easily on of the coolest quests in the game. I own quel serrar, thunderfury, and sulfuras and imho quel serrar has the best quest line.

Heh, I remember farming the book alone with my rogue to sell it in Auction house. There were several locataions in Dire Maul where a red book would spawn and you would normally get junk or sometimes the book related to the class-specific trinket and very rarely Foror's.
I like the use of the PoE music. Fits really well and gives an epic sensation to go with the that epic blade.
I usually stans in high populated areas with my Benediction out.. No one really notices me... But usually a few times per day i will get a whisper telling me ive been around for a long time... Or the occasional "where did you get that!"
Ive only bumped into one other person with it... Then we just ran around healing people and goofing off

I've really missed the old days lately, so I started leveling up on a vanilla private server. Really makes you appreciate a lot of the conveniences we have today. In vanilla everything was so much harder and more time consuming, but also comes with it meaning a lot more too.
Sadly, those so called Vanilla servers doesn't deliver the proper experience. The scaling isn't right, mobs were hitting harder back then

One of the coolest quest lines in any mmo. I remember being envious of our warriors(We didn't have any paladins with this because we didn't use paladin tanks lol) because this was(and still is imo) one of the coolest weapon models in game. The whole idea of starting off with a ordinary blade, and then having to get Onyxia to breathe on it and then stick it in her corpse once she was dead....man that was so cool and outside the box, for the time anyway. We had at least 5 warriors that needed to get this done, and we coordinated it so we could get it all done on 1 attempt(maybe we needed a 2nd, I can't remember) so everyone could get there sword at the same time and thus help the guild out big time.
I played a rogue so there was no way I could get quel'serrar even as just something to show off and to have, because we couldn't start the quest. Once I started raiding in vanilla, I almost regretted not going tank. There was just something special about main tanking for a raid in those days. The visual of seeing one guy taking on a giant monster, dps waiting for the tank to generate threat and all the healers focused on keeping him alive. When I first got exposed to raiding in vanilla, this always fascinated me. But it was too late and I was too committed to my character to worry about switching, plus all of our tank spots were filled anyway.
It's all novelty and nostalgia now that I've been raiding for years, it's not new anymore obviously. But it's something I'll always look back on with fondness, that's for sure. And with classic coming out, who knows maybe I'll go tank and get to experience it myself since I couldn't back then. And I'll get to have this weapon and thunderfury possibly as well. Something to think about!

One of my first and last Warrior epic I used well into TBC.
Maaaan, i would love a time warp on the epic hunter bow! I remember having to travel through all Azeroth to kill those pesky demons for the quest! And if I'm my memory is not wrong, especially the one you had to kill in Silithus. It would one shot you so you had to kite him during all the fight, having people help you killing the mobs that would spawn in the area and protecting you from the other faction player since i was on a pvp server. Took me a lot of tries back then :) Anyway, I love your work, it brings back some really nice memories!

I remember when Varian was first added to the game, he was dual wielding this sword before they gave him Shalamayne.
I got this on my Paladin back in the day. Was an enjoyable challenge to earn and is still an item appearance I treasure. I believe I still have it in my bank.

I remember getting this weapon on my old BE Paladin during wrath solo, a couple months before they updated the raid. Great day because I also obtained my tier 2 helmet.

Fast weapons were preferred by tanks not because of rage generation, but because of threat generation.
Heroic strike did a lot of threat. Therefore, the faster you could spam it, the more threat you would generate. Since tanking raid bosses meant a full rage bar with every hit, you couldn't even expend all of your rage if you tried. Even with the best tanking weapon in the game, the dagger Alcor's Sunrazor.

I had one! I remember going back and forth into DM farming that book for like two weeks... :P Sort of fair though as if you were dedicated you could get it. I honestly forgot the other steps beyond that and have Onyxia breathe fire on it. But I remember the sword was badass. :)

This is my most treasured possession still, on my paladin, from back in the day. Yeah..
As a main tank I grinded Dire Maul for forors for weeks and weeks that turned into Months, the drop rate was so low I eventually bought it on the AH for 3,000g. that was a lot of money back then. Guild helped me obtain the Quel'Serar and it was a great experience.

still got mine on my warrior , did a shit tons of dire maul and the book never got dropped , ended grinding like crazy to buy it on the AH , i was so happy the day i finally got it , vanilla wow brings good memories .

Best tanking blade was Thunderfury, however that was purely based on luck. Personally had one half of it, other never dropped.
However there was one other fantastic alternative - Alcor's Sunrazor, hard to get (world drop, usually was purchased off AH for insane prices).
Was tabbed out listening and suddenly heard that PoE music and nostalgia to the Beta.
Ahhh, memories.
@madseasonshow Is it posdible you could do a time warp on the lore of the two most famous farming spots "heartglen" and "Tyr's hand" most vanilla players would know of these places and it would be very interesting to shed some light on the lore and the huge grind these places offered :) love your content madseason! I used it when i was MT back in vanilla (im the orc tank in the beginning of the video "Fenimo ragnaros first time" on youtube) if i start playing again. Can i transmog it? Doubt i still have it in my bank though. Stopped playing during MoP so i dont remember what i kept and what i scrapped :/

THIS. THIS is the kind of stuff I'm talking about when I say I wanna see more MMOs inspire adventure. It was a raid quest, yeah, but there was something that felt so artificial about it. The only thing I can think of like it was the Shadowmourne quest line in Wrath. As incredible as it was, all you had to do was walk in the front door and get the quest. There was no discovery, no secrets, no riddles, nada.
Can you imagine the amazing quests and adventures they'd be able to pull off today with the modern tech, mechanics, and their more recent interest in in-game secrets? Why not??!?
I remember when my vanilla raiding guild was going on, DM was almost considered a raid-level activity, even though it was for 5 players. Even with raid gear it wasn't trivial to do the entire thing. We would do the librams for head/leg(?) enchants.
Got this on my Pally main in Classic. Hateful whispers ensued, akin to today's rare, closeted racism. "The Warrior tank in your group should've got the quest item. It's disgusting that you have the weapon."

After you're done with the weapons perhaps a few on the druid shapeshift forms, including the swift flight form in BC. Those were always interesting to me.

Started playing my warrior after a decade and found out I have this sword. A no brainier for every transmog
It's been a long time since, but i have a vague memory that Quel'Serrar had an original model that was boring until they updated it later to the model we see in the video, just like the case with Tier2 armor sets. Can anyone confirm? i dont find anything on the internets or google images but im pretty sure I've seen it
Oh, so that's why that guy (Lorekeeper) was named. I've been there a few times, but never understood what he was for. I assumed a quest, but I'd never found one.
