They should take away the loss from fighters who fought Margarito and just put a NC in their record instead. Loading up your gloves is just as bad or even worse than using analbolic steroids and there is no place for it in combat sports. If it were up to me, he would have his whole record deleted.

If I had to choose one boxer that destroyed their own reputation the most it would probably be Margarito. Have to question every win he's ever had. Maravilla on the other hand will always have respect.

@@raulramirez9657 only once that we know of, the Cotto fight was also questionable but commission didn't do nothing about it, they just took pictures of his torn wraps and then it wasn't until later that Cotto suddenly assumed that Margarito cheated because he got discovered in the Mosley fight pretty stupid on Cotto's side for not catching on to that regarding that they always send someone from the opposite side to check out the hand wrapping I don't know but it goes both ways
@@Cloud-9_C9 I could see why the Cotto fight looks questionable but looking closely, it really isn’t out of the question. Cotto had always been vulnerable and prone to being cut. He was usually the one to pressure and his stamina wasn’t the best. Against a much bigger completed relentless opponent with almost inhuman durability, it’s not that far fetched that he’d get busted up like that. You factor in how much he was getting hit in that fight, you’d figure that if Margo has loaded wraps, it would completely ruin his career just like if not worse than Bill Collins. Cotto had an excellent career none the less after that loss, even after that beating from Manny, where he looked just as fucked as he did in the Margo fight.
@@raulramirez9657 it's just the time he was caught against Mosley using that plaster of Paris. You have to throw in that it was a possibility for ALL the fights previous. That's why I say he tainted his career the most because now there's an asterisk next to every win.

What margarito had was stacking. It’s ghas and tape wrapped together. Everyone does it!!! This isn’t rocket science. Margarito lost that fight because he couldn’t make that weight. Mosley sucks. Two great fighters. That was a good fight to watch. Some of Martinez's combos were well put together, if he'd had the punch power to bother Margarito he would have been a real problem. He inevitably got worn down by Margarito but right up until the end he showed remarkable resilience.

If you look at it this way, Martinez's career looks rather strange.
It is clear that he started early, but he still showed talent, he was able to get a place in the top 10 of Argentina, and suddenly his team decided to throw him under the top prospect Antonio Margarito, who, if not cheating in this fight, was already very dangerous fighter..at the end Sergio lost, he himself said that this is fair, since he was too inexperienced, and did not have enough time and resources to prepare.
After the defeat, Sergio was left without a team, and eventually became 1st rank in Argentina, then he left for Spain, where he quit boxing and started just cycling and working at a normal job ... but in the end he was robbed and all that Martinez could do was - take up boxing again, and soon he became an Ibo champion and won three important victories in Britain, which gave him a world rank - this is official information ... and after that he went to spend time in fights with who knows who, and only in 2007 did he receive a qualifying fight for the title, won it, and only a year later he fought for an interim title, and in the next two fights he was robbed, but this did not prevent him from becoming a star.
Unfortunately, Martinez did not have the most important fights - with Pacquiao and Floyd, and against Cotto he came out already with a serious injury and under 40 .. by the way, he is still a pro boxer, and his new fight will soon be

Sergio Martinez had only been boxing roughly 7 years in this vid. Very talented and athletic.
Martinez first entered a boxing gym in May 1995. Less than 5 years...
Became pro at 20 so he barely had 4 years in at this point.

Met Sergio Martinez in Marbella some years ago. Such a nice and humble man.
He was there to help train a female boxer with padwork and also jumped into the ring to give an upcoming professional boxer some sparring rounds. His career shows us that with some talent and hard work there is still a chance to become a champion even if you start much later than most boxers (He was 20 years old when he started boxing).
I could never forgive Margarito for the cheating. Who knows how many times he cheated before he got caught. Boxing is not a game and people die every year. The extra damage on the brain from hardened hand pads might not show on a boxer until after many years.

The pundits stated that he used to be a soccer player and switched over to boxing at a later age. They seemed amazed at his skill level, especially considering his belated entry into the boxing world.

We do know he lost all his major proceeding fights following the glove tampering. That in itself most certainly leads to a cloud of suspicion hanging over his entire career as to how far back this cheating went on. After Mosely destroyed him, in all his subsequent bouts won none of them were by stoppage. Makes you wonder why.
@@richardharrison859 Well after the Mosley bout he fought Pacquiao and Cotto. Pacquiao was just untouchable at that time, nobody could beat him and Margarito had his moments in the fight, and Cotto was only able to hurt Margarito because of his damaged eye.

Marg just pushes forward, takes shots and miraculously, his punches do amazing damage, though his volume is similar to his opponent. He ruined Cintron and Cotto was never the same, either. Martinez was saved before getting really destroyed, but it would’ve happened to him, too. Boxing let him hurt people. It’s tragic.

These 2 boxers became world champions after a couple of years. They are not active now. Margarito was defeated by Pacquiao and sent into retirement due to eye injury. While Sergio Martinez retired early after suffering huge defeat in the hands of Miguel Cotto. Cotto then fought Margarito and lost due to cheating. Margarito used illegal gloves padding. They fought again in a rematch and Cotto defeated Margarito.
True, Martinez fought Cotto and lost. However, he was already past his prime then. Both of his knees were shot in that fight, so he couldn't move like he used to nor generate the same one-punch knockout power as before. Prime Martinez is the guy who knocked out a prime and dangerous Paul Williams (before Williams' unfortunate accident). Sergio was, at his peak, a pound-for-pound great.
I can tell by the slow slapping sounds those gloves have a little something extra in them...
