The BIZARRE CONTROVERSY at Super Bowl XXV

- "The field stinks. Kids destroyed it. We need 1,000 square feet of sod within the next 24 hours, or we're not going to be able to play this game."
As crazy as that quote might sound, that's what actually happened prior to Super Bowl XXV, as due to Operation Desert Storm and the Gulf War leading to a change in the halftime show that ended up destroying the field, groundskeeper George Toma was in a race against the clock to get the field ready for Super Bowl XXV between the Buffalo Bills and the New York Giants. What followed was an incredible sequence of events that included a made-for-movie heist mission. Seriously.

Forget the Declaration of Independence. I want a movie about the grounds crew at the Super Bowl stealing the sod for the field. Hell, let Nicolas Cage play Mr. Toma. I don’t care if they look nothing alike. I just want that movie. 😂
Wow this is a fantastic video . I clearly remember this game but I never heard this story. This is my favorite UA-cam channel
The rare time that the halftime show at Super Bowl XXV was preempted (New Kids on the Block) for war coverage [Persian Gulf War].
The great turf heist, a 30 for 30.
Hey, they could have streaming the halftime show. Oh wait, this is when those who had Internet was on super slow dial up Internet.
The sod fell out the back of a truck lol.
If you don't replace the McCardell tier and make it Jimmy Smith tier, I'll never join.
I’m hysterical laughing at him throwing shade at a bunch of kids. 😂😂😂
I always find it fun that when these stories come out, it coincidentally consists of the same two teams that are playing present-day Gameday. BILLS at home against the Giants.
Yep that’s entirely by design! We’ve got a Bengals/Seahawks vid coming out later tonight and we had an Eagles/Jets vid earlier today
@@OfficialJaguarGator9 keep up the good work
I'm a lifelong Hillsborough County, Fla. resident and I never knew about this mess. I never knew that George Toma had to go to those lengths just to have an acceptable playing surface. The Bucs' natural surface has usually been on point even since USF football launched later in the decade and put more wear and tear on the field.
I’m surprised that Scott Norwood hasn’t blamed the sod for wide right.
DON'T REMIND ME OF THIS GAME!!!!! 😭😭➡➡
That show sounds like something that might have happened in the 1960's because of how it wasn't choreographed like they do today
“Might have been the best super bowl played up until that point”
Whenever anyone plays the best super bowl ever card and discusses SB25 they somehow overlook one blaring key obviously, seemingly massive point- norwoods kick, either hood or bad, was going to be the last play of the game. That was it. Winner if the game decided on that play.
The handful of other SBs that were won on a final play had the potential to continue after that play. Super bowl 36 for example- if that field goal is missed the game simply goes to OT. Super bowl 34- if the titans get in the end sone at the end, they don’t win, the games goes to OT (or maybe they go for 2, either way there’s another play)
No other super bowl has had a truly final win or lose play. Just SB25. That’s it.
I
That would be Scar's advise, not Zazu's.
Introduce the "Official JaguarGator9 Drinking Game": for every time he says "By clicking the card in the upper right hand corner" you take a shot.
You trying to kill people?
"Local man dies of binging JaguarGator9 videos, liquor"
Crazy how the Super Bowl back then almost got canceled, because of kids damaging the field.
Secret Base did a video on this as part of their Worst series...
Well if they had given to the
ball to Marshawn Lynch........
Best Super Bowl ever? I mean, it's the only 1 of the 57 to be decided by 1 point, and look at the rosters for both teams
Hey!
The Philadelphia Eagles Kansas City Chiefs probably wish they played on the sod at Tampa stadium
Edit: I just imagine the grounds crew wearing ski masks to steal the sod from the University of Tampa's soccer pitch
All the Giants super bowl wins are the best super bowls
