The series is perfect. This comes from a 51 year old man from the UK. Yes, it’s soppy, silly and camp but it is nothing less than entertaining and romantic. You have to be dead inside not to enjoy it.
I’m currently reading it for the first time and really like it too! It gets so much flack but at the end of the day it’s not supposed to be a great piece of literature. I also find Bella quite relatable
I’m currently reading twilight and OMG!!! I absolutely love it! A lot of people were saying the books were better than the movies and OH BOY! They were right!!!
Ever since Midnight sun came out I’ve really started to understand Edward and why he had horrible mood swings! It’s because deep down in his point of view he’s riddled with anxiety and guilt about being what he is and how he feels towards others! He’s just a very angry person I feel like, I mean, spoiler alert: he literally very early on in the book thought about committing a mass murder when Bella enters the room bc she smells SO good.
I've only decided to read the Twilight series for the first time this year, and to be honest, it is now one of my comfort series! I enjoyed the books so much, too much, even, to the point where now I'm sad because I've read everything. I am starting again as soon as I get my first copy back 😘😊
Twilight is from Bella's perspective. And it becomes really apparent what kind of person she is: responsible, selfless and nurturing. (Also lacking good sense of self preservation, but there had to be a flaw) and it rarely happens that such a kind of person is appreciated and celebrated instead of criticized all the time. Stephanie Meyer gives it a shot. Kudos to her!
I just started listening to the twilight audio book last month and I was surprised by how it good it really is! I was also around 10 - 11 when twilight peaked so I was also among those who hated twilight for no reason because everyone else did. I got hooked after the first book and kept going! The books never failed to entertain
I'm glad a reviewer actually defends the flaws of the characters rather than using it as a criticism of the book. Flawed characters don't mean they're bad ones. Quite the opposite in fact. I think stories and characters are boring when they don't have flaws because flaws give them an actual character arc. And Twilight characters are as flawed as you can get while still being essentially good people. And that's a part of what makes it fun, at least as long as you don't take it too seriously (ie as long as you don't start patterning your behavior from these characters). It's a guilty pleasure so long as you enjoy it for what it is.
I hated Twilight for years! Last week I randomly decided to watch the first movie. I’ve watched them all and I loved them. Getting the book series… oh yeah, I turned 40 this year 😅😅😅
20 year old guy and I just finished the first book after my aunt bugged me about it, and I absolutely fell in love with it. I’m not the one for cheesy romances, but I couldn’t help but smile anytime Edward and Bella held an upbeat, silly conversation. Guys, don’t let gender-stereotypes dictate your opinion on this book series. Really phenomenal work. Looking forward to reading the rest!
I agree with you on everything honestly. The book was amazing and I noticed after reading it and analyzing it that Edward changed a little. He was way more harsh in the beginning but at the end he watered down. I am very over protective over the books because half of the people that have said it’s bad haven’t read the books. The book could have been better in many ways but doesn’t change the fact that it IS good.
Wonderful video :D I had my twilight phase late-ish too, and have sustained it for a while now (currently 24). They're total comfort books for me, and I love getting lost in their story and characters, and distracting myself from wherever is stressing me in daily life. I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and I can't wait to watch your other videos :D (also, I recommend the official illustrated guide - bought it as a guilty pleasure sort of thing but am loving it) :)
I am so glad I found your video. I wanted to read Twilight for a long time. But I have just now started reading .. When I thought I was ready for it, all my teachers started talking sh*t about the book and i decided not to go for it all. When I was younger, LIKE Very very young around 10 or 11..i discovered the movies and fell in love with them in a way which made me CRAZY for the franchise. I relate to you when you mentioned that harry Potter vs twilight divide media created and i agree that it was Harry Potter fans who disliked twilight and compared it unnecessarily with Stephanie Meyers' work. Even my elder sister used to taunt me for loving twilight and always compared Harry Potter as a superior franchise. I am turning 20 this January. I am a potterhead. But twilight is something which stayed with me all this time. It stayed with me for a long long while and worked as a mode of escapism while growing up. Now I feel embarrassed to mention that i like twilight or even when I feel like watching the movie, I feel like I shouldn't.. Or maybe judged. I don't know. I played the movie just now and i didn't know I would feel like this but as soon as I heard the first line, "I'd never given much thought to how I would die. But dying in the place of someone I love seems like a good way to go." ... Oh boy... Everything came back like it never left. I decided to purchase the book and opened Amazon and was about to order but I felt like I shouldn't do that because of how bad people say twilight really is. Then I searched for this video and found you. I am so glad I did. I am going forward to get this book. I don't care. I loved Twilight. It carries a part of me which no one else can ever see.
The media is toxic. People are hypocrites. They used to call sh*t about Edward but now most of the YA fantasy readers look forward to reading a book which includes a villain who badly treats the protagonist but falls in love with her later.
Twilight was one of the first books I read. Today, I read Dostoievski, Grass, Homer and Cervantes. But I just re-read twilight and I think I discovered new things, deeper things. Of course is not perfect, but is a really good book, and i feel like a teenager again when I read it. Specially because my first girlfriend was really similar to Bella.
A bit late to this one but what a great review! This series has been with me for many years and I’ll always have a very nostalgic adoration for it. It makes me sad that people automatically dislike it without actually reading it, just because of how the media discusses it.
I like to watch the first 1st movie of each book series to get the hang of the books, and then stop watching those other movies in the series till I finish reading the series :)
Omg I am also 20, hated Twilight because it was cool as a Potterhead but got into Twilight last month and I'm OBSESSED... And as you said, when I was her age I was like Bella in Twilight and New Moon so yup it's definitely realistic but toxic.😅
i have watched all the Twilight movies (you all can thank my cousin for that lol!) . i have wanted to read the books but never got actually got to it, just last week i checked out the first Twilight book from my library, omg i fell in love with this book. im a few chapter in (halfway done) and this book is so different then the movie. i think i like the book better then the actual movie
Glad to see comments of guys enjoying the book because it felt kinda weird how much I could relate to Bella sometimes obsessing over someone, blushing, feeling helpless and things like that omg was wondering if reading it was a bad influence for me, it’s assuring to see guys in the comments.
OKAY. so i went to a second hand book fair and without knowing anything i bought the first 4 books of twilight thinking its very popular. Then i saw the reviews on Google and shockingly everyone was hating on this series..damn did i make a mistake of buying it? I Don't want to regret buying these books but THANKFULLY i saw this video and its giving me hope that i'll enjoy reading it...lets see how to goes!
Lol I used to see it on my school library when I was 11 I thought they were big in pages and for adults. Now I feel interested in reading that book. Who knew after 10 years I’d be interested in reading these books. 😆
Woah woah, Harry Potter and twilight had a divide? Lol I missed that memo I loved both for a plethora of different reasons. Apples and oranges people lol.
Thank you for the reasonable review.. yes.. if you fall in love in your teenage years you will probebly take it as hard as bella did.. that's what i've been saying! Twilight gets too much stupid hate..
I got the twilight book as a present from a friend No matter how much love or hate this book has, thanks to twilight I got into reading and read lots of others beautiful books after that so in a way I can thank twilight for that 😊❤
Good job on explaining the book! Very well said. I've recently read the books, too, & I love them. There are so much more to the books than the movies. I hate it how they've made Bella dull in the movies. & how they've left quite a bit of things out of the movies. I know that's what usually happens between the movies & the books, but still. They could've made Bella at least less dull, than what they've made her seem in the movies. I do love the books, though!
Her: "I didn't want to read it when I was 11 years old because I loved harry potter" Me: I read Harry Potter at the same time as Twilight and I was 11 *Please don't take this the wrong way I am a fan!*
I actaully don't agree with any description of toxic when describing Twilight! There are many reasons why? I will say the actions of the characters match the fictional plot. I think critics consider real life relationships too much when picking apart Twilight. Readers are not stupid, they understand the story is about Edward and Bella, not about some stalker on the news. Instead of dumping on Twilight, it should be pointed out that fiction does not relate to any real world situation especially fantasy. A fact I believe most readers are aware of! As for younger readers, the novels were marketed for YA, young adult not children.
Exactly that’s what I was thinking and in no way is twilight for children like I think you should be 12-13+ to be able to read it bc some stuff was violent and not even bc of that I love the books tho it’s my comfort series I haven’t finished it yet tho I just finished new moon and I borrowed twilight and new moon from my school library I didn’t think I was gonna finish new moon that fast tho I thought it would last me till the end of half term (it’s for a week till June the sixth) and how I really wanna read eclipse so I’m trying to convince my mum to take me to the library on Monday I just wish I could order the whole series 😭 and I don’t know why people don’t understand the work *FICTION* not everything is gonna be like reality and ngl I kinda like it when characters do that I know it’s weird but in fiction books it just feels right
@@Hannah_Grae_FanAccount 👍Agreed! I believe you can still read the books online. There is also the audiobooks on the internet. That's if your in a pinch😁 and can't obtain the novels 🍎
@@deborahminter6231 I think I’ll just wait to to go to the library bc I prefer the actual books over anything but thx I think to wait out my impatience I’ll watch the movies, only twilight and new moon tho since I don’t really want any spoilers and I may accidentally spoiled new moon for myself while I was on the internet bc before I read the book I found out Edward was gonna leave so then I impatiently waited for that I wanted it to be a surprise to myself but then again I feel like I might have figured it out and I also spoiled the bit where Bella and Alice go to Italy to save Edward
@@Hannah_Grae_FanAccount 👍Your in for a treat with New Moon. I won't give you any spoilers. Also when your finished read Midnight Sun, gorgeous novel...it is Twilight from Edward's POV.

I thought the movie was cool, but then I read the book and rewatching the movie scenes I realised how cringy it was. I can never look at the movie the same, it seams sooo awkward. Where did Edwards humour go?
Lol I think that’s the reason I could never get into the movies cause I read the book 1st, and they just always seem so awkward compared to the book and not at all how I pictured them.
