Social Media Reset, with Dominique Boullier

In this exclusive video interview, Professor Dominique Boullier, a full professor of sociology at Sciences Po, delves into the thorny issue of virality on social media and the problems it poses for both individuals and societies. After evaluating the shortcomings of current legal frameworks addressing social media and digital platforms, he lays down some solid policy recommendations and presents a very useful theoretical framework drawing inspiration from epidemiology. In a policy brief written for the Sciences Po Digital, Governance and Sovereignty Chair, several reasons for this inability to properly curb these harms are discussed, including a flawed understanding of the effects of platforms on media consumption, referred to in this article as “propagation processes” ➡️
