  • Booker Prize-shortlisted and celebrated novelist Paul Auster talks about 'Burning Boy', his new comprehensive, landmark biography of the great American writer Stephen Crane, with National Book Award finalist Jayne-Anne Phillips. Auster tells the extraordinary story of Stephen Crane, best known as the author of 'The Red Badge of Courage', who transformed American literature through an avalanche of original short stories, novellas, poems, journalism, and war reportage.
    This talk was first aired on Sunday, October 3 2021 as part of the fifth annual Succeed2gether's Montclair Literary Festival. The festival is a fundraiser for Montclair-based non-profit Succeed2gether, which offers free one-on-one after-school tutoring and enrichment classes to low-income families in Montclair and Essex County, NJ.     Thank you for this. A most interesting talk indeed. I am taking this chance to state my admiration for Mr. Auster’s absolutely extraordinary book about Stephen Crane, which I am reading these days, and enjoying so much.

    Fascinating discussion. Only know The Red Badge, but now l’ll make an effort to read the rest of his writing.
