There truly is a place in your soul untouched by any pain or hurt. A place of beauty, strength and peace. - He was the only one able to put into words what we all feel - this place behind all of it. This place most never even realize exists, but we all long for so badly. That loud serene silence, beautiful pain and tears, and this unspeakable untouchable unattainable art around us....
My God this man was a poet because of his ability to continually practice gratitude for the beauty that existed outside himself. The very reason he could identify it so eloquently proves that it was already pre existent within him. So inspiring to listen to such a man
I have listen to this interview dozens of times in the last 4 1/2 years since I first heard it, and I find it wonderfully inspiring, sustaining and gratitude-engendering. Thanks for making it available here for many more people to be touched by John O’Donohue...
I just visited the Burren and was taken back by the utter silence there. My ears were ringing it was so quiet, it felt like being on another planet. I love John's work. When I read his books I usually have very surreal dreams, like they open up a door. Amazing work.
So lucky to have had John pass this way.Immense wisdom, clarity of thought & gentleness. I’ll be rereading Anam cara & other works. He’s a gift from God🙏
Flat out to one of the most beautiful examples of a druid hidden in plain sight! A magnificent being, who taught the core of connectedness to the divine, using the gift of imbas channeled through spoken arts. ❤🙏🏼❤
Yes Dragon and for me he is like a priest in heart and a Druid in soul. A modern Irish mystic that has left us far to soon. I'll never grasp the magnitude of his compassion and wisdom but it's my ambition to visit his grave in Co.Clare.
For two years now I keep reading and re-reading John O'Donohue. All of his books are magnificent and he writes beautifully, describing mysteries like belonging, longing, solitude, stillness, beauty, prayer, presence, holiness. This interview with Krista Tippett is priceless.
Born 78 years ago to a large Catholic family in Ireland. Educated by the nuns. Still a believer and a churchgoer, but with many questions. My religion is comforting to me....gives me hope.
Idk if you'll see this, I'm two years late. Hope you're doing well. I have a question, do you view the bible in more of a fundamentalist historical way, or as more a philosophy/theological book?
@@elsdiv3933 do you mean do people read the bible as it actually is (which isn't a book of spirituality but a story of a time and place in history)? I am reading a book by a man who has translated the bible and tells a very different story from what people have come to believe and base their entire life values on. I am not a follower of any religion, it doesn't resonate for me at all- I do see a clear connection with religion/politics/bank/elites and world domination, and it really is an eye opener.
So sad that such a beautifully deep mind was taken so soon. So fitting that he died peacefully in his sleep, may he rest in sweet peace. Another beautiful Irish soul to check out for anyone who hasn't is writer, philosopher John Moriarty. An incredibly deep and humble man. He too past away in 2007.
I love this. ❤ I've listened to it a million times, but why are there suddenly so many ads?? Ugh. I really wish they'd bring the original back. This version (without the music and all of the ads) is just not the same. 😢
Interesting interview. One point. John says no one is looking for yesterday. That old Beatles song Yesterday, been popular for decades...that one...might suggest we all are!
Anam cara léite agam le déanaí. Ana shuimiúil ar fad agus bhaineas taithneamh as. Dearcadh eile ar spriodáltacht tar éis dom na blianta a chaitheamh le fealsunacht na hIndie. Dearcadh eile ar Advait. Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin!. Is fiú an dán "Tá Tír na nÓg ar chúl an tí" a léamh.
Not listened to the whole thing but very suspicious of anyone who leaves the Catholic priesthood and fear he lapsed into heresy and heretical ideas very shortly after he left.
O'Donohue said in an interview, "It was a difficult decision, and it did take years to make. I suppose the oxygen had become too scarce. I also found myself diverging from quite a few of the teachings. The final straw was acquiring a new bishop who exhibited and exercised a strong chemical hesitancy to my theological viewpoint. Once made, the decision brought me great peace of heart." Perhaps, like many, he grew out of his container.

I absolutely adore this man and his soul , may God be pleased with him and may his conversation with beauty continue in eternity

Yes, John O Donahue is timeless and wise. Always end up back here when things are hard or seem hopeless.
This transfixes you into a dream just listening to him speak.

I agree Blink. I'm only learning about him now. He's gone from us far too soon .

First heard this episode a few days ago, and have listened to it three times, and saved it. What a wonderful dialogue between both of you!!
His philosophy resonates with me. This interview has enriched my life. Thank you.
A gift from God! His words are a pure definition of beauty.
“...You can be swept off your feet by just Beauty. “ ❤️

So beautiful! Will save this for always!
Lovely to hear him. God rest his beautiful soul.
Thank you for posting this fabulous interview!!!
Is there a society to discuss these issues ??
The Good, the True, and the Beautiful. When these mutually verifiable guiding principles are all considered good decisions are bound to result.
I have copy of Anam Cara by my bed…read it most nights, his way with words was just wonderful

I’m struggling to hear this. It’s so intense.
“When I used to be a priest”.........what a lovely boy......... hahahahaha xoxoxo
Why are some of us so blessed and others unloved abused neglected and cursed from the get-go?
Great question, that no one can satisfactorily answer.
I wonder if it's possible to find that place where we haven't been wounded and if one perceives a light there, follow it.
Because this Human Experience is EARTH SCHOOL. Our Souls are only here on 🌎 to learn !

John passed away in a car accident in France. Instigated by the Catholic Church, Carpe Diem.
She's silly.

Such deep dives into sources of beauty and aliveness . Thank you Kristen for preserving and being a part of these moments .
God is so much bigger than any single religion.
a man of his stature rises above all petty judgement
Bless you Robert and any suspicions you may have, but I suspect John walked paths that knew no boundaries, except for love.
❤ 😊 🙏
